I'm having a little bit of trouble with English patches in general.

I want to play the Snes versions of Tales of Phantasia and Dragon Quest 3 as well as the Mother Games.

The thing is that I believe I found a English Patch for Tales of Phantasia but when I try to apply it it doesn't work.  I tried using the Lunar IPS but it doesn't seem to work and according to the site ZSnes, the emulation program I'm using, could do it by extracting the files but that doesn't seem to work either.  I'm also wondering if there is a site to find multiple english patches for multiple games or do I have to find one for each individual game.

I just don't understand how to apply a patch, I tried reading some instructions but I just don't understand them.  Also I'm not sure if I'm allowed to paste the site with the patch here since it also contains the ROM of the game.

Current playthrough: Chrono Trigger and God Eater Ressurection

Well... you saying it doesn't work is of little use actually.
What I mean is, do you get an error message when you try to apply the patch to the rom? As in, using Lunar IPS?
What extension does the patch file have? Maybe it's not supposed to be used with that program, but a different one.

Supply proper information, gurrl. Then I will be possibly able to help you.

Yes, ZSNES offers autopatching (just checked, it works for ToP). Both files have to have the same filename (ToP.zip and ToP.ips), and you have to check Config>Options>Enable ips auto-patching. If it doesn't work, maybe either your rom or patch is broken.

romhacking is the best source for all kinds of patches, hacks, utilities, and everything.

Lunar IPS is the easiest tool for applying patches: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

By not working, do you mean the game won't start or will the changes not take effect?

If it's the former, patches sometimes will not work if your ROM is headered or not. I recommend this program to either Add/Remove Headers: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/400/

It seems that the changes are not taking effect rather than it not working now.  Before it wasn't starting but now it does but it's not translated.  Also I tried extracting it before but now it has the adobe flash symbol next to it and no extension on the rom, even when I tried to download it again when before it was like .scm or .smc or something.

What method are you using to apply the patch to the ROM?
