Mega Man 4 was my first Mega Man game, way back in its heyday of 1991. I have fond memories of it that shall not be dislodged.

The game that started it all for me was Megaman 4 for the NES.  I remember when I was in elementary school and a friend of mine was selling games for $8.00 a piece since he was moving up the ladder to obtain a SNES. I looked at the games he had in his hands and nothing really got my attention. He then suggested trying "Megaman". I looked at the cover, The Pharaoh looking robot looks cool, as well as the background. I told him "let me borrow it and I'll buy if if I like it okay." Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to play it because I forgot I had soccer practice that night and homework gave me no room for playing. =( I asked the following day if I can borrow it for one more day to due circumstances,  but he had to get rid of the games that day..... so I took a gamble and I told him I would buy it. His exact words were "Trust me, you'll like it." "He then shows me a gaming magazine showing "Megaman X" and said "this is the newest game for him coming out so that's why I'm getting a Super Nintendo" That left a big impression so I felt reassured when I bought it. the music, gameplay, story, difficulty, it had it all. Instant fan after that.  To this day I still have that same cartridge and am grateful to Manuel for introducing me to Megaman. The best $8.00 I ever spent. ^^

To try something new, is to explore your true potential.

First one I played I believe was either MM7 or MMX. First one I owned was MMfor Game Boy and after that MM6. First RM I think I beat though was Wood Man at my neighbor's house...that was hell that first time...I was like uh...8 or 9 maybe?

Quoted from an earlier similar thread:

"Suprisingly my first Mega Man game was just Mega Man for the NES. That was in 1991(I was born in 1988) and I watched my older brother trying to beat Ice Man and Guts Man's stage. Eventually he got to Dr.Wily's first stage but then our parents called to drive home again, since we played Mega Man 1 on a party."

On a side note, Mega Man was the second game I ever played, after Bubble & Bobble and before Super Mario Bros. 3. After that I lost the count.

Megaman 2. I would rent it all the time. Unfortunatley, I never owned the game, and after we moved I didn't get to play it again until MMAC.
The first one I ever owned was X2. Got it when another rental store was selling off used games. Best $10 I ever spent.

My first Megaman game AND first game ever to play would be Megaman X, though I never played X2 and 3 at the time, I bought X4 and MM8 when they came out on the PS1.
