Original / Re: The MM3 RMs: Light/Wily made?
« on: March 28, 2012, 10:31:33 PM »
I can confirm Marshmallow's citation with a scan if you would like it, but I will tell you for sure that text is indeed on page 89.

By all means, please do. I have no reason to doubt it, especially because #20 of The Reploid Research Lavatory also confirmed it via e-mail, but we can never have enough material supporting these obscure details.

While we're at it, does the book have any other information currently unavailable in western sources?

And at least as a visual concept, you do have the RW logo on R20/MMOCW's page 21 that at least proves they were thinking about making it widely known in the game:

The symbol is also present in the background of Magnet Man's stage, on what looked like giant batteries. It takes a good look to notice them, though.

Original / The MM3 RMs: Light/Wily made?

Hi, folks.

I need to verify this information. I've seen varied accounts that the MM3 Robot Masters were a joint effort between Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. However, I need at least one official source that confirms this (and quotes, if it isn't too much to ask). I know that Shadow Man is seemingly an alien robot remodeled by Dr. Wily, but that's it. In Mega Man Gigamix, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily only worked together on Gamma, with Dr. Wily creating the eight robots on his own, but since Ariga's series isn't game canon...

Fan Creations / Re: Oakie's Christmas List
« on: December 15, 2011, 05:58:51 PM »
As of this post, requests are officially closed. To those who posted, I appreciate the interest in my art. To those who didn't, all I can say is tough luck, as I can't guarantee I'll ever provide another opportunity. Any requests following this post will be completely ignored.

I received a grand total of 22 requests from all the communities I extended this initiative to, and 4 of those are already finished. The requestors will be notified the day all requests are finished, and I'll post in this thread again when that happens. Look forward to it.

I wasn't here for previous threads like this, do I just say "Horny, from Dungeon Keeper" and leave it at that?

The more information and/or visual references, the better. The time I spend researching is the time I could spend on a request instead.

UPDATE: Requests are closed. The original post is quoted below.

Quote
Hi folks, long time no see.

Contrary to what it may seem, I still sprite. It's been many years since the last time I took requests, but I'll do so again for a limited time, which may range from one to two weeks depending on how many requests I receive. There are naturally a few rules, which I believe are reasonable enough.

  • One request per person. Size limited to 100x100 pixels.
  • If a style isn't specified, I'll make the choice. Don't use the term "bit" to describe the style, name the game.
  • No matter the style, the color palette will have a maximum of 16 colors, including background.
  • No animations.
  • No recolors.
  • Keep it tasteful. I won't make anything considered offensive, please use your common sense.
  • I reserve the right to show what I make wherever I see fit. The art won't be used for anything else without the requestor's permission.
  • I reserve the right to deny or ignore any requests for any reason.
  • I reserve the right to change these rules as I deem needed, with or without prior warning.

If I decide to do your request, please be patient. My intention is to finish these before Christmas, but I'm not making any promises. So, without further ado, ask away.

Zero / Re: MMZ reference in Sonic Comics

That scene was drawn by Jon "WB" Gray. He explained in his site that he was playing Zero 2 at the time and that Elpizo's transformation was his inspiration for that page.

ZX / Re: Is Ciel the first commander? And other related questions.

Zan did not use that quote as a source.  He provided no source, and I cannot challenge his interpretation without knowing what he is interpreting.

Zan's statement can very well be challenged if there is a basis for it; the quotes that I provided come from the only instance I recall in which the first commander's order is addressed (barring other material that I'm either forgetting or that I'm unaware of). In the process of questioning the source that I provided (or how I interpret it), you indirectly challenged Zan's statement yourself.

I do not believe the situation in which Prairie made her statements changes the information provided, and therefore I consider it unnecessary when discussing the matter. I agree that we don't know the circumstances in which Giro received the order, and that it is not clear that other Guardians received the same order. However, Zan stated that all Guardians received this mission as a fact, which is what I had taken issue with in the first place.

Refuting Zan is not my responsibility; I will do so when I am driven to do so.  Now is not one of those times.

I don't see how "responsibility" factors into this; we're fans discussing a game series. We are entitled to join any conversation that interest us, but we have no obligation to do so. I didn't have the responsibility to reply to Zan in the first place, but his post caught my attention nonetheless. Responsibility here applies only to the staff that keeps the forum in order.

Even though it wasn't your intention, you refuted Zan's post as much, if not more than I did.

I'm getting that "Argument Clinic" vibe again, and Superbat's filled my quota on that for quite some time.  So may I suggest that further posts address ZX rather than what either of us believes the other should be posting?

By all means; it's what I was trying to do.

Typos, they're part of life.

So are corrections.

Ambiguity doesn't help anyone, Oakes.  If you're going to claim that I'm off on a tangent, be specific as to why.

It is a direct statement that Giro received an order from Prairie.  It is not a direct statement, but rather an implication, whether or not he received that order firsthand, and whether or not that same order was received by other Guardians.  In discussing an implication, the intention of the speaker is a particularly relevant topic.  "Context" exists for that reason, and it is hardly my idea of grasping at straws.

With that, you have just claimed that Zan's post about all the Guardians receiving the order is conjectural. In which case, you should explain yourself what else can be inferred from Prairie's full explanation, rather than just her initial response.

And the order came from the first commander, not Prairie.

You misunderstood me.  I was talking about Aile's discussion, not our discussion.  Before you chimed in, Prairie's complete response hadn't yet been offered as part the topic; only the first sentence about Giro.  You're applying my comments about Prairie's response to this thread as a whole, which was not my intent.

Now you're pushing words into my mouth. I rejoined the topic in response to Zan's post with a quote which potentially conflicted with his explanation about the commander's order. It is when you suggested an alternate interpretation for that particular quote that I saw fit to cite another part of the conversation. My point was always about the nature of the order, therefore I limited myself to what I believe to be the pertinent details. To me, questioning the actual point of Aile's query and how Prairie initially replied to it is just overcomplicating matters by grasping at straws.

Okay, to that STATEMENT, even if they are addressed later on in the discussion.  I apologize for my poor choice of words, but what I meant was that Aile was asking about herself personally, and Giro's involvement, thus Prairie responds in that context.  The order, as your own quote shows, applies to a larger scale than that.  But Aile isn't asking about the order, she's asking about her own identity.

The point of discussion here isn't what Aile wants to know, but the specifics of the order given to protect the Chosen Ones. Which is what Prairie explains in her response.

But would Albert even care about that? Any special origins Girouette could have would only ensure he fits the requirements of a chosen one; someone to stands up to the irregulars, showing the desire to change the world.

I don't know if Albert would care, all I was saying is that trying to hide Giro's origins from someone who knows "everything about the world" would be a difficult (if not futile) effort.

If I were to speculate, I'd say that Albert would somehow try to take advantage of the knowledge, just like how he made use of the Biometals created by the first commander.

As one of Master Albert's Chosen Ones, Giro's life cycle settings were personally inspected by the Sage Trinity member. If Giro was indeed a Reploid created in secret, Albert could have discovered it easily.

She speaks of Giro and Aile because it's what Aile is asking about.  The other Guardians, and the other children, are irrelevant to the discussion.  That's all.

They are anything but irrelevant:

"The order was to protect anyone that survived the Maverick raid. At first I didn't understand why she would give such an order. But when I saw Giro transform into the Model Z Mega Man, I finally understood the reason. Survivors of Maverick raids share the ability to transform with the power of the Biometal. People like you and Giro. I'm telling you the truth when I say that's all I know. I have no idea why some are chosen to be Mega Men while others are not. I'm guessing the only one who knows the real truth behind all of this is Serpent."

ZX / Re: Is Ciel the first commander? And other related questions.

Girouette was a legitimate Guardian, Giro Express was the cover up. The raid survivors needed protection because they somehow shared the ability to transform with the Biometals. By acting was as the owner of a transporter company, Giro could carry out his mission unsuspected.

Nonetheless, Giro honestly cared for the children he looked after, and proved himself willing to give his life to protect them.

Girouette is a member of Guardian, and all of Guardian was issued an order to protect raid survivors, not just Girouette.

I don't know, Prairie made it sound like the order was addressed to Giro specifically:

"Calm down Aile! I don't know much about what's going on either. The one that gave Giro the order to protect you was the first commander."

That doesn't mean the original contents are public domain.

Zero / Re: The Blonde CO's Identity

Although the book doesn't define their gender, their designs suggest to me that they're male. The female Resistance members, even the soldiers, were always seen wearing either a skirt or a dress.

MMZOCW refers to the two as Elpizo's followers. Other than that, there really isn't much information about them. One can presume that they're deceased, but oddly enough, their bodies aren't visible among the Reploids that died in Operation Righteous Strike.

Fun fact: The names Isos and Pasos were supposed to be assigned to Crea and Prea, but apparently Inti had Nakayama's notes mixed up.

Hypershell is correct, the track in question is "Girls Bravo". The album also included guest artwork from Hitoshi Ariga portraying the events of the track.

May as well throw this in here in case someone hasn't seen it yet.

Scanned from the ZX Gigamix case.

I did not miss the point. Yes, the fact that a human being became a computer program is hard to believe. But remember two things:
1) It's a video game. Stuff doesn't have to make sense.
2) There are other things in Japan aside from this where humans become computer data.

I'm well aware of that. The point is simply that the assumption of MegaMan.EXE being an alter-ego of Lan Hikari isn't as unreasonable as you made it sound. You just admitted that more farfetched ideas exist.

And to keep in the spirit of the topic, some artwork from Guiltism (which I hope that it wasn't posted before). In my opinion, this is how Zero's upper body should have been designed in the first place.

20
All I meant is that MM.EXE isn't Lan's alter-ego at all; it's his brother. You read WAY more into that than there was to read.

I did not, and I know who MegaMan.EXE is. You missed the point, which is that the idea of MegaMan.EXE being Lan's digital alter-ego doesn't sound as stupid compared to the actual truth.

In fact, isn't it the same as Star Force MegaMan?

Was it even stated in the anime that he was his brother? (HavenĀ“t seen all the seassons)

My knowledge of the anime is limited, but I'm assuming so.

21
That is pretty stupid; MM.EXE is Lan's brother!

You say it as if the concept of a computer program originated from a deceased human doesn't require as much, if not more suspension of disbelief.

Zero / Re: Megaman Zero: Command Mission
« on: April 25, 2010, 02:04:56 AM »
In my opinion, the point of Command Mission was the main character leading an assembled group against the enemy, so a "Mega Man Zero Command Mission" would need to follow that concept.

Although Zero often comes across as a lone wolf, he did lead the 0th Unit of the Maverick Hunters in the X series. I think Zero's leadership skills have been largely neglected in the games, and I'd like to see a title focusing on that side of his character. Examples of a possible stories I can think of are Zero forming a group to shut down a major operation of Neo Arcadia, or to stop a faction of extremist Reploids attempting to destroy Neo Arcadia. There are gaps in the timeline of the series that could be filled by such a game.

I don't think the setting of the Elf Wars would be appropriate for this kind of side story, especially with Zero's limited role in the war itself.

Zero / Re: Was Copy X really evil?
« on: February 07, 2010, 05:07:19 PM »
I personally do not consider Weil's influence as an excuse; Copy X's actions were clearly his own. He could have acted differently, but he retained the same immaturity and naivety from before; all Weil did was take advantage of this. Copy X still made the decision of firing the missile with Omega at the residential district. He knew that humans would die, the humans he was created to protect, yet he didn't demonstrate any hint of conscience or morality; his decisions were repeatedly questioned by Harpuia, and he was only upset at Harpuia's attitude. Ciel refused to cooperate with Copy X when he proved himself willing to sacrifice innocents, and Copy X deemed her and the Resistance "filthy extremists". Zero questioned the value in justice sought by complacent humans, and Copy X's answer was: "Wh-who cares about value? Neo Arcadia's doing what's right."

Copy X thought he was doing the right thing and fighting for justice, but how many villains actually consider themselves evil? Even if we take Weil's persuasion into account: if you commit a crime because you were told to, does that make you less responsible?

Zero / Re: Was Copy X really evil?
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:17:35 PM »
It's true that Copy X was a naive and misguided soul. He was given an enormous responsibility at birth, forced to uphold the reputation of a legendary figure he never knew because he was built with that image. Due to his lack of experience, Copy X lacked the maturity and knowledge to be a fair leader. In fact, Copy X was as mature as a spoiled child. But does this mean he wasn't evil?

Regardless of his reasons, Copy X was still responsible for several atrocities during his tenure as leader of Neo Arcadia. Copy X never displayed concern for those around him, only thinking of himself and his reputation. He never showed any regrets or doubts when he ordered the execution of countless innocent Reploids, when he stripped the Four Guardians of their authority (and ignored their condition after their fight with Omega), or even when he allowed the destruction of an entire residential district inside Neo Arcadia in order to allow Omega to capture the Dark Elf. Humans lived in that district and Copy X was aware of it; in fact, he didn't seem to care at all when Ciel mentioned the fact.

Although the circumstances make a sensible explanation for Copy X's attitude and allow us to sympathize with him, can we really say that his selfish behavior and lack of conscience don't define him as evil?
