Fan Games / OH JOES! (A Proto Man Adventure)
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:10:12 AM »
For the last 2 years, I've been working on a fangame called OH JOES! (A Proto Man Adventure), which has now been released. The premise is that Proto Man must recover his stolen Proto Shield from a fortress full of Sniper Joes and their ilk, and the overall tone of the game is lighthearted and occasionally ridiculous. The game can be beaten in under an hour, but there are multiple paths, multiple difficulty settings,  multiple playable characters, and lots of secrets (from collectable JOES letters to hidden power-ups to silly Easter eggs) to keep the gameplay fresh. There's even alternate language options, including Spanish, French, and German. It's more of a puzzle and strategy game than it is a traditional Mega Man game—you CAN force your way through everything, but the challenges are specifically designed to get you to think before you act.

Why a game about Joes? After playing the official games and numerous fangames, I got tired of seeing the same few Joes used in the same few ways—blocking boring hallways, guarding the tops of boring ladders, etc. I wanted to make a game that showcased some of the different and creative ways Joes could be used, mainly by combining them with a variety of gimmicks from across the Classic series. If this sounds like your kind of game (and admittedly, it's not for everybody), check out the game's official page for download links, more screenshots, and a full list of features:
The game is still growing and changing as bug reports and suggestions come in, so check back periodically for updates.

Lastly, if you're interested in some behind-the-scenes stories, I'm writing an ongoing series of blog posts that cover the major aspects of designing this game. Here's what I've got so far:

I've been maintaining a list of Mega Man fangames to help me keep track of what I have and haven't livestreamed, and I figure this could be a helpful resource to share. I've seen a few fangame lists around the Internet, but they're generally incomplete and outdated. Here's what I've got:

Needless to say, there are a LOT more Mega Man fangames out there than I think most of us realize, and this list only scratches the surface. If you know of any games I've overlooked that fit my criteria, or if you have more recent links to the games than I've provided, please let me know! This helps me, and hopefully it's helpful to the community as well.

Fan Games / Re: MegaMan Endless - Level Design Contest! - CLOSED
« on: July 02, 2016, 10:11:49 PM »
Hello everyone who submitted a level! We've been discussing this on the Sprites INC thread for this contest, but I'm planning a livestream where I play through everyone's raw, submitted levels for Mega Man Endless, regardless of whether they actually got included in the game. Not only would this be a chance to showcase everyone's original vision for their levels, but the developers would be invited to join in the commentary via Skype, Google Hangout, or whatever is most convenient (or else simply being present in chat).

So, would anyone be interested in having their raw, submitted level(s) livestreamed, and if so, would you be interested in participating in the commentary? I'll coordinate logistics individually once all the Big Life Stuff I'm going through starts to settle down, probably in a month or so.

In the meantime, I'm planning a blind livestream of Endless, most likely either tonight, Monday morning, or Tuesday night. I'll announce when I'm streaming on Twitter (nathanielhoover) and Facebook (GeminiLaser). You can find me on Twitch (Flashman85) when it's time to stream, and I post all my archived livestreams to YouTube (Flashman85LIVE) in case you miss anything.
