Since I have no idea if anyone's mentioned it or if there's a thread proper, and I'm certain someone's gonna ruin my buzz, I'll try not to get excited for you guys.
Pokemon GO is out. I'm just putting that out here.

So it seems Pokemon Weights can actually vary from Pokemon to Pokemon and my Bulbasaur is huge (XL) and I have a few Pokemon that are tiny like my Sandshrew (XS). Is anyone else's starter's huge or is my Bulbasaur the only plump Starter Pokemon at the moment?
Also I caught a Strong Ratata in my room, it's way more powerful and bigger than the previous Ratata I caught outside. I guess Joey would be proud?

Downloaded it. Crashes constantly on my phone. Tried it on my tablet. Crashes constantly. Found a Bulbasaur in my living room. Crashed before I could catch it. Restarted app. Can't connect to server.

Caught a Charmander in my house this morning, it's currently the strongest one I have for now.

Got it running on my tablet, but without a GPS, there's not much I can do. No Pokemon in or around my house and I'm limited to my wifi range.
Still no luck getting it to run on my phone. I get to the startup screen and it crashes.

Okay, I managed after several restarts, I finally caught a Charmander. It was across the street and my wifi BARELY reached. And then I spent forever plunking in a name.

I'll try hunting around my house later on. Since I can only barely get it working on my tablet, I'm really limited to where I can go. Most of my away hunting will be done on the Square in Gettysburg.

Yeah same here since I can't drive, and I'm on a shared Data Plan with my family. I can probably look around my Abuela's house next time I go there since she has Wi-Fi. But yeah I do find them in my house on occasion. I hope I can find more Bulbasaurs, my first Bulbasaur has Power Whip.

A really weak Ekans showed up in my house and I am at lv 4. Just one more step before I get to level 5 and must choose what Team I will support.
The closest Gym to me has been claimed by Team Valour, even though I'm really not the biggest fan of Moltres I may just go for Team Valour......

Unfortunately the game does put you in that mind set because of the Mechanics, resources are limited and you get Pokemon Candies for every Pokemon you send to Professor Willow which are needed to Power Up and Evolve Pokemon. Not only that but in order to actually Power Up Pokemon you also need Star Dust which you get when you catch Pokemon as well as more Candies.
It's a resource Management Game, and you litterally have to pick which Pokemon you want to spend your Resources on.

Yeah unfortunately the game is not optimized very well for Tablets, that and the first few days will be buggy as all get out.

Not to sound harsh but the reality is that you really need a Phone that's supported by a Major Network and not a pre paid one you get at the store.
Or at least you need a Pre Paid phone that's at least an iPhone 5 with ios 8 or an Android Phone that at least has Android Kit Kat. And they will not support an iPhone that is Jail Broken it seems.
And again it's expected for it to be buggy as all hell in the first few days.

Yeah I suggest looking into cheap Android Based Phones, with at least the specs mentioned above. That and Android will have more variety.

I hope they expand support for Windows Phones too, I haven't seen anything that indicates Windows Phones are supported just yet. It also seems it hasn't hit Canada yet either.

Ooh yeah Windows is a Closed Source Platform for their phones as well, and doesn't have the benefit as being as popular as the iPhone which is the other Closed Source Mobile Network.
Not to mention since it's owned by Microsoft that will be definitely be difficult to bring over.

I did send them an error report, so hopefully that helps them get an update out sooner. Until then, I'll stick with using the buggy version on my tablet every now and then.

There's a Pokemon Gym at the KFC owned by Team Mystic. It seems around here that there's a lot of Gyms that are owned by Team Mystic and Team Valour leaning more on Team Mystic. So I think I'll become part of Team Mystic when I get to level 5.
I'm suprised there's barely any love for Team Instinct, I mean I only saw 2 Gyms. You would think the one represented by Zapdos would be the most popular, or at least more popular than Moltres.

Kind of neat that you have the option of catching Pikachu first as your starter if you really wanted to.
Anyway I hit level 5 yesterday and picked Team Mystic. The Gym that was owned by Team Valour was briefly taken away by Team Instinct but was taken back by Team Valour. And one of the defending Pokemon was a Venomoth with over 400 Combat Power.
Yeah I can't take that gym until I power up my Pokemon more, but I did catch a Fearow yesterday.

So my fiance and I have a group of 4 friends. We're both Red, 2 of them are Blue, and the other 2 are Yellow.
We're our own team infiltrating the main 3 teams lol
Also I'm working on powering up a Pidgey to max before evolving it when I'll power it up to max before evolving it one more time. Similar thing to what I'm doing with a Ratatta. Got an Exeggcute today.

I decided to evolve them first and then worry about Powering them up, the cost of powering them up doesn't change with evolution, it does change by how strong they are however, and I'd rather spend the Candies when I don't have to worry about gathering the Candies to Evolve them.

Well apparently if you max them out before evolving them they get a higher CP cap when you evolve them or something. That's what I was told at least.
Either way, I don't mind doing this. I'd rather have my main team as strong as possible, even if it requires a lot of Stardust to get them there.

Yeah it really sucks going into this without enough info due to a world wide release. Though you can get Stardust from the shop when you are high enough in Levels and the coins to do so.

There are ways to get Coins without spending money like sending a Pokemon to be part of a Gym, but yeah catching Pokemon is easier.
Also I notice the Pokemon actually migrate.

Also Team Mystic has that Park Gym, though I think it will be stolen in the morning. I also saw a Lure Module used for the first time, Hot Pink Cherry Blossoms just rain unto the Pokespot endlessly for 30 mins.

Missed out on another Pinsir today because my phone was dead but my fiance's wasn't.
This game does not want me to have a Pinsir.
I did catch 3 Staryus today (on top of the one from yesterday). All of them were right around the same corner of a nearby dog park. I do not know why these Staryus love this dog park. Also got a Kadabra and a Rhyhorn, and hatched an egg into an Eevee (it was a 10K egg) that was actually weaker than the Eevee I already had. So I took the candies I got from hatching that to evolve the one I already had into Vaporeon. Which is now 707.

Finally got around to getting Pokemon GO after so many stressful obstacles like updating my phone, the phone having issues with memory space (which had to due with iClouds Photo Streaming), then downloading the game and deleting over and over because it froze on loading screen and finally setting up a nickname due to names NOT available to use. -_-
Well in the end I manage to play it and get to level 3 today, but using an iPhone 4 for this app might not be wised seeing how long it takes for it to long and it freezing sometimes.
I did get a Charmander for my first Pokemon and then a Venonat, Rattata, Pidgey, Weedle, Horsea, and Eevee later on. Sadly no Pokemon around me at the moment and I don't finally understand those PokeSpots or whatever it was called to restock on Pokeballs so I assume have to go to a gas station or something to do that?
Well it seems cool at first, but now it's such a pain to get it to work I'm not interested in playing that much. Another reason why I dislike phone games. >_>
Though I'll eventually get a new phone so any suggestions for what iPhone 6 model I should go for as recommendations?
PS: My brother manage to get a Jolteon in the same area as the Eevee at our local mall. What?! XD

Well, I did what I set out to do and gave the game a chance.
However, with the server errors (And the fact that server errors means shutting down and restarting the app instead of having a [tornado fang]ing retry button or something), the insane loading times, my inability to find anything (like really, no hot/cold thing? just some circle that pulses in and out?), the fact that the [tornado fang]er kept forgetting my login info or settings (and giving no option to save said info so i didn't have to type it in every time.) AND the fact that the game outright deleted the fact that I had gotten a charmander right at the beginning (Like, no pokemon at all).
Yeah, i think i'm done. more power to those who don't have 4 year old rooted iPhones and can actually play i guess.

Yeah I think it was specifically stated that the game won't be supported if the iPhone is Jail Broken, not to mention it's not meant to be played on anything that isn't an iPhone 5 or above or an Android phone that doesn't at least have Kit Kat.

There is a hot/cold thing. It's in the lower-right corner and tells you what Pokemon are nearby with a meter of up to 3 steps lol
But yeah, I'm not surprised that it doesn't work on rooted phones.

It is an iPhone 5 but i'm dumping it eventually since I only jailbroke it because apple wouldn't let me block unwanted calls or advertisements, and updating my phone to a newer iOS is the equivalent of giving my phone cancer.[/rant]
I'm honestly more annoyed by the phone than I am the game, but its kinda really nothing in the end.

I cannot stand Pokemon GO at times! It's infuriating! I have to go with this every time I boot up the game.
Almost a 5 minute long loading screen... and if it's stuck I have to exit out and try again!
Cannot get login information try again later!
Failed to get Game Data Server.
And when I do get into the app I have the problem where the Pokemon won't show up even when I'm in the area they are located in and can't do anything as the loading times prevent them from appearing.
And when I do catch on it gets stuck on the "I caught them screen" and won't exit out for more than 5 minutes and I have to exit the game and steps 1 - 3 happen to me again before getting back in. Or like earlier I threw the PokeBall and apparently the Pidgey broke free but the game wouldn't register or let me know so I lost out on catching a Pokemon.
Also I've looked at my app and was surprised to learn that there were Gastly and Haunters nearby as well... close to my local Police Station and in the daytime... and I can't do anything to grab and I found out close by as well is that there was a Dratini I could've gotten but nope app won't pop it up or any Pokemon at all.
I know I'm using an iPhone 4 but this ridiculous! I do plan to get a new iPhone which might be an iPhone 6 Plus because I need a bigger phone as I got some big fingers as it sucks when I hit the wrong key because my finger hits like two keys together a bit which is annoying. Though shelving out $500 - 700 for a phone is ridiculous! I hate how they're expensive and I know because of the features and such are put into, but goddamn if home consoles are cheaper than that!
Also I'm thinking paying $700 for a SINGLE phone game app... that's horrible. Even if it's free. I want to enjoy this but I can't with these problems.
Heck even the PokeFinder GO app I got today doesn't work as it doesn't show ANY Pokemon at all in my area when I know there is as I've caught them! Ugh... have any of you guys overcome the problems I'm facing because I should sure LOVE to get this game working properly. I even emptied out all of my music track and some apps on my phone for more space but it's not enough it seems.

Do you not have a proper Phone Service plan through Verizon, ATT, etc? Because you usually are able to make payments for said phones within a 2 year contract period.
On another note there is an update for the app and they rolled out in Germany now after a temporary roll out pause to deal with the server issues.

I believe so, I pay part of the plan with my family so my mom and I have to look up but I do like to pay off completely and not worry about it in the future. Then again I did have my iPhone 4 for years and not lose it or had a problem with it though my mom gave it to me when she got the free upgrade for her phone but no free upgrade at the moment.
And is this update available only in Germany at the moment? I wouldn't mind a more stable app. Seeing a Weepinbell and Venomoth nearby and not being able to get it because the app doesn't want to work as seamlessly like on my brother's iPhone 5 and my mom's iPhone 6 is a little disheartening.

Phone plans don't really factor into the game at all. At. All. So, you can play while using a pay-as-you-go plan.
Here's the thing about those cheap plans that people don't really know about: They use major carriers.
That's right! Your Tracfone uses AT&T! Your Boost phone uses Verizon! Holy crap, StraightTalk uses both because StraightTalk runs through Tracfone which uses both networks! Wow!
So, yeah, your plan means nothing.
It's the phone's processing power.

But yeah the most important thing is power, possibly a good network, and whether you live in a big city or a suburb because Ninatic hates rural areas. :\

Yeah, that cost can't really be helped at all. I have to spend at least $150 for a phone that would just barely be able to handle the app. I can't afford it or a 2-year contract, so I simply can't play.
However, I do have a plan. It is the most ass-backwards and overly complicated plan, but I think it might work. I set my phone up as a hotspot, connect my tablet, and go outside constantly connected to that hotspot.
If I can't do that, I could get a Raspberry Pi, set that up as a hotspot and have it connected to my phone, and have my tablet connected to that. It'd be a horrible daisy chain of devices, but I think I could actually finagle a viable way of playing Pokemon GO on a tablet.

I live in the suburbs so that shows how poorly the performance is for the app for my phone and area. It sucks.
Sure they ARE some Pokemon close by that I can get to within walking distance in a few minutes, but mostly common Pokemon with the occasion rare ones.
Does your level increase the rarity of Pokemon that appear for you?

Not sure about the rarity but you are more likely to get stronger Pokemon the higher your level is. That being said keep catching common Pokemon that only take 12 candies to evolve so you can get more experience faster.

Would do that if the Pokemon showed up on the app AND the app didn't get stuck on the catching screen. It makes it really difficulty and I'm still stuck on Level 4.

But it's true I can play a bit, though looking at the phone options I might get an iPhone 6 Plus because I need a bigger phone for my big fingers so maybe something between an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus size as the Plus is kinda big.

You get those randomly at Pokespots, you put them in an incubator and have to walk the required distance.

Once I get the mobile hotspot going and force the app to use Google Maps offline mode (it uses the API), I may be able to manage some sort of working configuration.

Welp, guess i'm quitting after level 5 then.
I get the whole "social" aspect and whatever but its just ingrained in my head that "Teams" in Pokemon are always the bad guys. Throws me off something massive.
Besides, I have one friend. Social aspects of games are almost entirely wasted on me.
Game seems to work ok now. It remembered i have a pokemon and it let me catch a weedle, caterpie and a ghastly.

You don't HAVE to choose a team. You won't be able to do anything with Gyms, but you can go as long as you want without joining a team.
Plus, you don't have to be friends with the people on your team. Myself and my fiance are on Valor while we have 2 friends on Mystic and another on Instinct. We haven't even met many Valor people in our neighborhood (but they keep taking the nearby Gym) and we've actually gotten along better with a couple of Mystic players nearby. Can someone with a lot of Eevees try an experiment based on a trick my brother swears works to get a certain Eeveelution for verification if it works or is just a huge coincidence?
Basically he says that if you name a Eevee after one of the three Eevee brothers in the first season you'll get the Eeveelution of that corresponding Element the brother has. The names were Rainer, Pyro, and Sparky.

It works. My fiance named one Sparky and it became a Jolteon. And there's a ton of people (and I mean a TON of people) all over the place all saying they tested it and it works. From dozens of sites, too, so it's not just a bunch of people in one place saying it works.

Yeah I think I'm gonna call it quits on GO. I have constant server issues that nobody else seems to get (I doubt it's my device, might be my data plan though) and I just generally have pretty [parasitic bomb] luck. All the Pokemon I want always seem to elude me or they run away (I had a growlithe run twice) or I get connection issues DURING the capture and lose everything. Not a lot of stuff shows up around where I live either (and a couple of my friends confirmed that suburban areas are pretty dead) so I have to go WAY out of my way (I'm talking 30 min drive) to catch anything.
In general the game's been frustrating me and bumming me out more often than it's been fun.

Yeah I say come back like in a month or 2, if you're still interested mind you, since they began the roll out in Europe again but the servers have still not been updated except once.
Niantic probably still didn't expect the huge amount of people playing compared to Ingress which is way more niche than Pokemon.

My entire Trainer Club account is broken so I've not yet gotten any further than logging in via Google and catching a starter. Stopped when it asked for my username and then told me it wasn't available. It WOULD be if the freaking password reset email worked. O:<
Oh well, I'm not especially eager since I know I will spend every day that I play the thing ticked off until I catch/hatch me a Dratini.
Figured I'd share this. Apparently you can fix your Eevee evolution through nicknames, but it won't let you fix the same evolution multiple times in a row.

Yeah it's called the Three Step Glitch where all Pokemon appear to be 3 steps away no matter how close you are. It's annoying.

I've heard from people that sometimes they can be caught but otherwise most of the time it's not for most people. I never had the Pokemon caught so you're lucky.

Thinking about it I think I do actually remember catching a Ratata and maybe an Abra in those situations, otherwise the others were not caught.

I have not seen a Rhyhorn yet. Haha, and yet I've talked to people who haven't seen Doduo or Pinsir yet, when my area is littered with them.

I've caught 3 Gastly and I just hatched one out of a 5K egg. And yeah, Pinsirs are all over Central Park. So much so that I was a bit upset when I hatched one out of an 10K egg.

Would it? I really don't think it would. I think we're blinded by the branding. I think it has potential. I think it's a really bad game in terms of design.
The Pokemon brand is fundamentally about exploration, growing, and battling. People love taking a creature, building it up, evolving it, and fighting a strategic game. They love catching rare and powerful Pokemon.
What about in Pokemon Go?
Exploration is bad. Your best bet is to sit as close as possible to high-traffic areas because Pokemon will spawn there the most often. Basically you just want to sit in an airport all day with your phone out.
You can't grow your Pokemon. What's the point? Dust is a limited resource, and it's the only way to level, so you're better off just throwing all of your Pokemon in the blender because you'll just catch a better one tomorrow.
Battling in this is an orgy of tapping with little feedback and little strategy. You have two moves, and you use them by tapping as fast as you [tornado fang]ing can. I was sick of that within about two minutes of trying to beat my first gym. They've downplayed type weaknesses/strengths. They've crushed everything that was good about Pokemon combat and replaced it with brain-dead Candy Crush.
Rare Pokemon? They're only good to check off an item on a list. If you don't live or work near a Dratini or Eevee spawn, you're never going to build up a rare Pokemon into something worth fighting with. You're better off just going to the Park, dropping a lure, and catching 20 Pidgeys.
I don't think this is a good game. I think this is a catastrophically bad game that lost my interest almost immediately despite my interest in the subject matter, that is redeemed by two cool features: eggs and geolocation gameplay.
If it were me, I'd implement several ways to upgrade Pokemon: walking, fighting, and catching more. This would incentivize all sorts of gameplay styles, and allow people to make the experience their own. It would make it possible to keep Pokemon that you liked from early on to level them up.
I'd replace the combat system with the traditional system, while allowing you to obtain TM and HM at really special places, like the White House, Ground Zero, the Grand Canyon, the Coliseum, the Taj Mahal, etc.
And I'd fix the spawns so that there was at least some variety in rural places, though I'd still like them to be somewhat more common in cities.
This basically is my entire issue with the game. I live in a suburban neighborhood in Las Vegas about 20-30 minutes - by car - away from any busy areas. Sure there's the odd shopping center but the spawns are only marginally better than they are here. If I walk outside for twenty minutes I guarantee your I will get one, MAYBE two spawns, TOPS, and that's if I'm lucky. (I've had outings where nothing popped at all.) I've been waiting for the school semester to start so I can play on-campus which is far more populated. And the spawn locales? I'm getting friends catching craptons of Eevees in other cities while I've only ever SEEN four (two of which ran away from me.) It's not "fun" or "interesting" for me to play, and honestly it bums me out more than I enjoy it because I see all these people having fun with the game while I'm having a horrible time with it. The only reason my parents have fun with it is because they're willing to literally drive away from home to go catch Pokemon. I'm not. I'm not gonna pay for gas to catch Pokemon.[/list]

I got a new phone, got Pokemon GO, and I am happy to announce that I am part of the Pokemon GO family. I walked around the neighborhood in a heat wave, sweat to death, and caught Pokemon!
At lvl 3 currently, but I can finally play! Already got a medal for catching five Pokemon.
Can't wait for cooler weather so I don't die while playing.

So, I went out for a hunt, caught forty Pokemon, found a PokeStop (one. At the electric company), and am at lvl 6. There are no Gyms here, so I haven't joined a team yet. I'll probably find one in town, but it's too hot to walk in and between me and the PokeStop, there's a stretch of nothing.
I also can't throw a PokeBall for crap.
A Drowzee did appear RIGHT BESIDE ME. I caught her and named her Lavvy~

While save-scumming at the PokeStop, I found an Abra. It was down the road. So, I walked down a busy road in the dark to catch that Abra. Named it Roadie.

I went into town because I needed laundry money and wanted to PokeHunt. There are PokeStops freakin EVERYWHERE! At least six on the Square in Gettysburg alone! The College is packed with PokeStops and like three Gyms, Downtown has two Gyms, and there's a Gym on Buford Avenue with a Hypno running it!
I'm Team Valor, by the way. Hit a dozen PokeStops, two with Lures. Gettysburg has a bizarre abundance of Jynx and I caught my first at the Gettysburg Hotel.
When I came in, it was a Mystic town. Now it's just lawlessness, though Valor is quickly gaining ground along Route 30.

Anyway for anyone who is an Apple user Pokemon Go is coming to the Apple Watch and will also be able to track steps and calories burned. However you will have to switch to your iPhone to actually catch the Pokemon.

The Halloween event is live on my end! My Hypno usually earns a candy every 3km, but during the event, she gets one every .75km.
Also, five Gastly, four Haunter, and a Gengar appeared outside. My Drowzee nest is still plenty active, but I'm seeing more Hypno. Also, lots of Meowth and Cubone! Finally got a Gengar and a Marrowak and I need to trek to the PokeStop for Balls.

A couple of the tour shops in Gettysburg sells team shirts. I got a Team Valor shirt from Gettysburg Ghost Tours.
And Mount Holly Springs is a Team Valor town. It has two Gyms and both are owned by Valor. Last time I was in Gettysburg, Mystic had a firm grip on it. Mystic also has McKnightstown and Emmitsburg, last I was there.
Instinct and Mystic usually have equal parts of Gettysburg when I'm in town. Though, I've seen it just devolve into lawlessness.

Team Valor still owns Mount Holly. I'm two kilometers from hatching my 10km egg. Gonna do laps around the block to hatch it and hit the Stops.
There's actually some distance between the Stops here. In Gettysburg, you could throw a Poke Ball in any direction and hit about two or three Stops.

Niantic have announced a new feature coming soon to Pokémon GO: Daily Bonuses. Each day, you will get a variety of bonuses for capturing Pokémon: 500 XP & 600 Stardust. Doing it for 7 days in a row gets you 2,000 XP & 2,400 Stardust. PokéStops also provide bonuses of 500 XP & A number of additional items each day and 2,000 XP and even more items if you do it 7 days in a row

Hardly ever. In populated areas I get maybe one every five minutes and I'm not willing to burn through my battery for that kind of rate, the fact I have to go out of my way to catch Pokemon at all anyways. I'm not the only one with that problem. Niantic's got this stupid system where Pokemon spawn less in like, rural or quiet areas. One of my close friends had to literally travel to another town to play with her friend.
