Glad to see you posting here again.

And there's a chibi too.

You improved quite a lot.

Especially the colors on the last two look great.

I also plan on writing up a little story. I'll post it here when I get started.

Something I'll finish later today.

I hope he turns up in Street Fighter X Tekken.

Considering that almost all of the Final Fight crew will make an appearance, it's getting likelier.

Anyway I'll just dump yet another drawing.

I'm impressed with the improvement I'm seeing.  The lines are cleaner, the color scemes look great, and the proportions have really gotten better, nice work.

Eh, I'll consider that later. I have some other ideas that I'd like to share.

In the meantime, I guess I'll post some custom minecraft skins I made myself, if that's okay.

Oh hey it's the gullible tsundere communist tyrant. Hi.

WHAT THE [tornado fang] IS THIS RUSHED PIECE OF [parasitic bomb] (http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/model-X/?action=view&current=madeinsparkvernia.jpg)

Nice but the shoulders are much too wide. Also her chest and hips are too low, the latter making her legs appear short. Speaking of her legs you could add some curviness, and I don't mean give her more thighs. Check out a real girl's legs and you'll see how they bend :>

And one last post for the first fat person I drew.

The belt will never sit properly on the widest part of anyone. If you look at any guy with a giant pot belly you'll notice that their belts loop under the belly and sit at the top of their hips. That's because you can't tie anything around the widest part of a person without it falling down.
And that's why he has a really awkward shape to his fat belly.

Also his neck and arms are too long.

Draw more girls.

You could've been a little nicer with the intro; do you do that to everyone else?

Thanks for the advice, though. I adjusted the Prussian to the best of my ability and colored it, though...I think the coloring makes it look worse now.

Meh.

Aside from that sword/lance, I think it's okay for what it is.

Thanks PB. I thought I'd start again and pray that it doesn't stink and rot like it did the last time.

Anyway, here's a drawing that's a few months old. It's how the Czar of Sparkvernia currently looks. Spoilered for slight embarassment.

I think the hair looks fine, the shoulder jewel on the left shoulder looks weird but that might be the postion he's in anyway.  I'm suprised you didn't give him a hat like always.

That's because I had to choose between a pickelhaube, a bicorne and a generic comissar cap and never finalized the decision.

I honestly wish i could color half as good as you. You have the ratio of depth down right. I keep managing to color outside of the lines...

Yeah I see the problem with that.  The picklehauble seems to fit soldiers more and you've already gave the comissar to the fat guy and a few soldiers and the bicorne just looks plain silly.

Since then I already decided on a ridged helmet (the one from the first topic post). I just don't draw it often.

Here's some more conceptual stuff I made during my absence.

Sparkvernian War Flag (http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/model-X/sparkvnavaljack.png)
Sparkvernian Pilot (http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/model-X/sparkvpilotnew.jpg)

I should probably stop posting stuff I made while I was gone, considering not all of them show the skill I have now.

Whaaaat? It was a compliment give me a break. Neck is still long but the belt looks much better. If you really wanna make a fat guy look fat, try to make it so it looks like he hardly has a neck. Nice colours tho, I like the way you use Purple for shadows and yellow for highlights.

Your uncreatively named robot master's mouthpart looks...funny.

Yes, I know the hair is too big.

Cute kid. A pickelhaube, definitely. Because pickelhaube are awesome. You really should stop being afraid to draw hands. Careful with the legs, they don't really join up to the body. And once again, the body has curves.

I think I finally thought up a better name for that Robot Master - Joust Man. I'll probably make a slight redesign to reflect his new name.

As for why Joust Man's helmet looks funny, it's because I based it off this medieval helmet:

Also, from here on I've been using Posemaniacs to help me draw human figures better. Of course the resulting sketch isn't entirely perfect, but the site's really helping me out.

Aaaaaaaaaaah ha! I get what's wrong now! It was too LONG.

...And probably missing the rest of the helmet.

Sparky dear get your tenses right, 'from here on' or 'you've been using'? Have or haven't you been using posemaniacs? =w= Or are you currently in the past retracing your steps into the nearer past?
Title: Re: No Man's Land

I meant that I recently started using the website for help. Jeez, I know there was a misunderstanding in tense but no need to nitpick that much. >_>

Anyway, I'll fix up Joust Man's face. The upper part of the helmet looked pretty off, too.

(Then again, you didn't have a problem with Zarok's soldier having a longer snout, and that too was based off a similar helmet. Oh well.)
Title: Re: No Man's Land
Post by: Krystal on July 26, 2011, 06:06:27 AM
I thought the Zarok soldier was based off a duck.
Title: Re: No Man's Land
Post by: Sparky on July 26, 2011, 07:51:11 AM
After rewatching the intro video, it turns out I got the entire helmet wrong anyway.

You can barely see it, but even though I got the length of the snout right, It's actually curved downard and the top helmet is more bell-shaped.

Now I have to re-do it. .-.

Okay, here's another sketch, this time it's more faithful to the original design.

Title: Re: No Man's Land

Helmets usually had  enough airholes.

And they were never perfectly air tight anyway.

Some crazy thing (http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/model-X/img116-1.jpg) I thought was okay to make at 3 in the morning.

Sloppy coloring, uneven design, conflicting light sources, etc....

While I was away in Oklahoma, I colored Phantom Man. I apologize for never fixing that stupid front hand.

And regarding him looking like an X character, I tend to design my robot masters around the Mega Man 7 aesthetic.

That way making 8-bit hijacks of them will be next to impossible!

disturbing.
Yet very cool.

ROBOCYBERVIXYBOTBORG 90000.

I like your coloring/shading style. You use colored pencils?

on Phantom Man, you don t have to have the whole aura colored, you could just make for example- an outline, a faint outline, or a slightly gradient-ed outline to show the flame/aura.

Also, I still cant help but imagine the Sparkvernian czar as looking like the evil sparkman in the cape. XD

That said, your new Czar is pretty neat. Dig his flip.
Title: Re: No Man's Land

Yeah, as of recently I adopted the use of oil-based color pencils. What attracted me to them is their supposed nature to not suffer wax blooms.

I still use my india ink pens sometimes, but as of now I go with the color pencils just to get used to them.

They're smoother than normal colored pencils, so you don't have to press too hard for coverage. They also seem to blend much more easily than the standard lot.

Hm... oil-based, eh?  What brand do you prefer?  I may give them a try.

Walnut Hollow pencils. They're mainly sold to the woodcrafting market, so don't expect them to be sitting next to Prismas (though there's a rare chance they might).

Thankfully my local hobby shop has a woodcrafting section.  Do they come in a large color selection?  Are they as bloody expensive as Prismas?

Where I got them (Michael's), they were only $15 or so for a pack of 24 colors. Sadly, that pack is the only one I saw, so I'm not sure if there's a wider selection than that.

Anyway, the next drawing I'm considering is a visual timeline of sorts of Sparkvernian troops, as part of how Sparkvernia is a standalone entity nowadays.

Sorta like this:

Just dropping off a doodle and an excerpt. Nothing more, nothing less.

"The Sparkvernian Liberation Front was an underground revolutionary group that was founded in 1942 by Sparkvernian social democrat Gustav Kamkov. The SLF was among the first political factions to rise up against the absolute Czarist regime."

Czar would be age 49 around that time.
