Another game starring the Blue Bomber has been id'd, thanks to a new Investor Report Capcom put out recently.
...Other goals mentioned in the briefing included expanded online development. Capcom aims to sell additional download content for major titles like Super Street Fighter IV and Lost Planet 2. It hopes to increase digital distribution of software. It also looks like we'll be getting a Mega Man Online game, jointly developed by Korea's Neowiz Games.

It's not clear whether this and the "Megaman Universe" trademark found a week or so ago are related or not. Stay tuned...

Free with cash shops? Wonder if the cash shop points will be called "Bolts" o.o
-
Hmm... interesting...
-
It would definitely make sense if it turned out to be Megaman Universe.

I can see this being the case, too. It would pretty much guarantee that more people would be willing to try it.
-
Yeah, it would. It's something we guessed in the other thread. And it depends on what timeline; classic would be bolt, X would be something... forget what, Zero and ZX would be E-Crystals (like it would be ZX or the next one), and DASH would be Zenny. Then again, if it was EXE or SS based, it would also be Zenny. They didn't specify which series it was in.
-
It would definitely make sense if it turned out to be Megaman Universe.
Personally, I hope not.
All this sounds like to me is just another quirky, made-for-PC, Korean-made, East Asian-centric MMO that will likely come in, enjoy a time in the sun for like about a year or so, and then go right the hell back out. Life goes on otherwise, as real Megaman games are released fairly normally.
Capcom would have to be seriously tripping if they think MM has it in him to do anything otherwise. Rock can't be expected to really combat Blizzard, much less the likes of bigger products like Bioware's "The Old Republic" and whatever Marvel has in store for their MMO. Plus, shouldn't they be focused on actually trying to build the Monster Hunter brand in the West?
-
That would be a wise idea... if this does turn out to be Universe, then oh well. I just hope that Universe is something different, something cool.
Or maybe they should spend time making DASH 3!
-
I just hope that the finished product is interesting, and something I'd want to look into--I don't play MMOs for various reasons (most of all being broke).
-
I don't play them because I like being able to mess with people physically after a multiplayer game.
But if it turns out okay, I might look into it...
-
Yeah as interesting as an Online MM would be... I don't think it would last very long.
However... a new MM with a heavy focus on online play, while also providing offline play... would be interesting.
-

Hmmm, but whose to say it IS an MMO though? There are lots of other Korean rpgish not-so-MMO games out there, like those 2D fighter ones that I can't really remember the names of right now o.o
-
Like I said before, please please PLEASE don't be an MMO.
-
a megaman mmo is just what we all need though
i mean come on
hundreds of thousands of clones of everyone's shitty zero recolor fancharacters running around
itd make a lot of people very happy
but not me B(
-
I can almost guarantee Proto shades would be in the cash shop ^^;

Awesome as that may be, No MMO please! XD

Yeah, no MMO.

I said that it would make sense, not that it would be a good idea :P
-
NO MMOS PLEASE
EXE/SF was bad enough. Don't turn Megaman even more boring.
-
I said that it would make sense, not that it would be a good idea :P
And I was just stating what I thought. Wasn't attacking you or anything. 8D
-
Well, that's another megaman game I won't play.
-
Meh. I don't care for MMOs.
-
I'm still hoping for that FPS Megaman game. If not, some MM battle arena type of game like Power Fighters / Battles, but with more variation, attack systems, and RMs being playable.. Maybe a party game like the Smash Bros. Series. *Shrug*
-
Maybe a party game like the Smash Bros. Series.
I would play that.

This could be the first teaser poster of the game. COULD be. I'm not convinced yet. It's a comment made on Mega Man Network, could be someone trolling.
-
The copyright on that is 2007; it's probably trolling.
Although an X-era game is more appealing than classic, personally...

If anyone can make a MMO that isn't crap, it's CAPCOM.
Or Valve, but...

What the EFF?
-
If there are any screens, I'm good. EXE/SF wasn't all THAT bad, it's just certain fans.. being.. fanbois. I remember EXE1 never that having that much trouble with the random encounters in the first game(s).
But back on topic. Who doesn't want to go in the way of GBD? Sounds fun recreating that very moment.. kersplam! But I degress. If it's a well done MMO (if it turns out to be), I might consider playing it, and go the way of Maplestory.. Just, vanish from the community, forevah (vanishing from the MMO community, I dare say).

Im having dejavu. I could SWEAR we had a conversation like this before.
Anyway, Didnt Inafune say, however, that the next Megaman game would not be an X game?

Next Mega Man X Won't Be X9, Says Inafune

They have funds to do this project while not doing Legend 3 and use those "lacking funds" for an excuse.
Way to go Capcom Inafune, way to go....
-
|:
Close enough. >.>;
anyway, what is the history behind that little poster? Im curious.
-
Well it's definitely not related to this, since it's both X in the image and copyrighted from 2007.
-
Megaman MMORPG?
Hmm... I can't imagine what it's like.
-
Probabaly Make-a-Reploid, then fiht mavericks or something... I dunno. yet it sounds like it could work.
-
I would love to see a MM MMORPG.
><; But that's just 'cuz I like MMORPGS~
-
They have funds to do this project while not doing Legend 3 and use those "lacking funds" for an excuse.
It's called "Publicity", Emiri. They just want to see if the Legends series is worth reviving by putting Trigger in copious amounts of cameos.
I personally am getting slightly tired of "DASH 3 THIS" or "ZX3 THAT". Gets tiring hearing that from the community every 5 posts. :\
-
Then don't come here. It's how we feel; whining about it won't change anything.
-
Once in awhile people should just chill and wait, worked for MM10 now did it (I was VERY patient when a certain release date being revealed for a certain pair of games)? Begging once and awhile is okay, but not all the time.
-
It's a forum pastime now, Gaia. Like I said, whining won't change things.
-
Personally, Im more tired of the copious amounts of Cameo, mainly because it causes other potential Megaman cameo candidates to get the shaft.
-
I WAS RIGHT!!!I POSTED THIS IN THE MEGAMAN UNIVERSE THREAD!!!!
A MMO ABOUT THE MAVERICK HUNTERS!
Create your own GBD and fight online with other hunters! >0<

Anyway, Didnt Inafune say, however, that the next Megaman game would not be an X game?
When was this mention? This makes me sad. :'(
-
Some people at PRC (dunno if it's just the one now; I haven't checked the comments) believe that a Megaman MMO will kill the franchise and all other associated MM franchises. That's...kind of a stretch.
-
Chris: MegaPhilX found out at Captivate.
Gonzo: Yeah, a bit.
-
When was this mention? This makes me sad. :'(
it was that there wont be a MEGAMAN X9, not "no Megaman X". I mis-remembered. read the following posts. 8U
-
There's nothing saying that the one after the next won't be an X game.
-
yes, but the point stands Inafiune said "it wont be X9" he never said it wouldnt be an X game, which is something i thought he said.
-
@Inafune: Son, I am disappoint. VERY disappoint. For no X9, of course.
-
Okay this is awesome I got to talk with Inafune-san a little bit (With help from his interpreter) and I got him to sign my MegaMan 1 cartridge. The already awesome cover art can’t look any more vintage now. I asked Inafune-san if there are any plans to make a MegaMan X9 soon (Obviously to let him know that was the game I would want made) and he said that there are no plans for a X9 for now. If they make a X game it won’t be X9.
From his Captivate chronicle, apparently. Still, posted for reference.
-
Imagine if Megaman Universe was an X sidegame? how much socks would that rock? (although the lack of an "X" in the name kind of says otherwise)
-
yes, but the point stands Inafiune said "it wont be X9" he never said it wouldnt be an X game, which is something i thought he said.
Exactly. Furthermore, at another appearance, he seemed to be actually MORE interested in the idea of making another IHX/MHX game.
So, my thinking? He's probably more interested in "taking back control" of the X series away from those who allowed it to go on for so many games beyond his desire and input.
So, if IHX2 is indeed next on the X-related menu, fine by me. But I still want to know what this "Universe" stuff is all about.
-
I didnt think he minded the others. He just felt that he wanted to let the rest of the team have a say, and well, he sort o wandered off. Though TBH, he should get back in dis sh*t. X1-5 were great, (talkin story here) X6 was the X5 team, (I think?) So it was good readin' too, but after that, it feels somewhat bland. X7 was borderline X4 all over again, but with a new good guy character. X8 has great story, but something about it feels off when I compare it with the others. perhaps its the lack of focus on X and Zero? And the fact that Wily connection built up so heavily since X2 was dropped after X6?
I honestly wouldnt mind a new X sidegame.
-
X7's story was cool in itself, except Axl was too childish for my liking, and the complete drop of Wily. If it even had the Wily connection back I could live with Axl being there.
Axl got cooler in X8 though, so that worked out.
X7 and X6 were "a long time" a part, according to official sources (OST), so maybe there is yet to be explained events between there that closed the Wily saga, or at least stalled it?
-
Yeah, the opening of X7 even describes that a lot of time had passed...
-
I didnt think he minded the others.
He still seems a bit bitter over X6, what with going as far as saying he feels he "owes fans an apology" for it. But-
He just felt that he wanted to let the rest of the team have a say, and well, he sort o wandered off.
Capcom contact from way back when said that work on X6 started so soon as X5's was wrapping up, so from that I pretty much think that he is also to blame from that. Sounds like (just my hunch) he wasn't closely involved enough to know what was going on since his reactions to X6 seemed to be surprised or what have you.
X6 was the X5 team, (I think?)
Kinda like the Soul Eraser team, since it had the inclusion of Koji Nakajima as producer (Cyber Mission / X5 was only Tatsuya Minami, SE/X6 had Nakajima join in as a producer as well, who stayed up to CM).
So it was good readin' too, but after that, it feels somewhat bland. X7 was borderline X4 all over again, but with a new good guy character. X8 has great story, but something about it feels off when I compare it with the others. perhaps its the lack of focus on X and Zero? And the fact that Wily connection built up so heavily since X2 was dropped after X6?

From X7 onwards it's vague enough that if they feel like wrapping up the Wily plot with a sidegame it'd fit, and if they just find some excuse to why Wily bid his own time for oh so [tornado fang]ing long it would also fit. I'd like to know why they dropped it in the first place, but ah well. I guess that with enough fan pestering at least Inafune was made aware of it (cue Capcom Unity FAQ and Zero's TvC ending).
As for story, the only one I could be arsed to be actively involved with and that felt good to me during the "X7" era was Command Mission. Rest was meh.
-
I'd like to know why they dropped it in the first place
Wily died of a heart attack when he saw Axl take his precious Zero's spotlight.
X7's story was cool in itself, except Axl was too childish for my liking, and the complete drop of Wily. If it even had the Wily connection back I could live with Axl being there.
I think the stories of X7, X8 and XCM all are nicely presented and well written. It's just that conceptually they require you to kinda ignore what the series had been recently working. Mind you, the current plotline still has a lot of thematic connections to the past, as made even more evident by Maverick Hunter X, it's just not the connections everyone craved for after games such as X5 and X6; Wily, Zero and so on.
-
It's way more likely that it'll be a kind of, "Rockman Scramble Battle" idea. :P
For starters, an MMO with Mega Man seems to be missing the Mega Man's genre demographic. It doesn't really make sense (but I guess Command Mission didn't either).
You've also got to put this in context; they're mentioning Street Fighter 4 and Lost Planet 2 right along with the other games. If you look at how those games do online interactions, this isn't necessarily talking about some kind of MMO. Street Fighter's online components boil down to: buy stuff, watch people, fight people.
I'm sure there's people on here who've heard about Konami doing that multiplayer Castlevania game. This could very well be the same thing; it could be in 3D or they could be reusing assets. Capcom seems to be digging the 8-bitty thing right now, maybe that's where they'll take it?
Either way, while an MMO could be realized, I just don't see why they'd do it when there's so many other and better options.
-
I don't really care for MMOs, but if it was a free game that I could fool around in and have fun, with the option to pay for things, I'd probably screw around for a good time. MMO's are fun, but I hate being tied to a constant charge; it's something that I just can't afford. (Lord knows how much money Blizzard can suck out of its fans with the expansion packs and stuff.)
I don't think they expect it to break ground, but rather to rekindle interest in a certain aspect of Megerman? X hasn't gotten a lot of love lately, and I would die if it turned out to be a .EXE style of MMO; as that makes the most sense. This is CAPCOM, though. Our guess is as good as theirs.(http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/RockmanHalo/Sugh.gif)
