Title: DLC secrets revealed in tiles!
Post by: Sapphire✧9 on March 02, 2010, 02:24:01 AM

-Three special stages include Ballade, Enker and Punk.
-Forte can dash and probably can use double jump.
-Forte's bullets are bigger. And he can fuse with treble.
-Reggea seems to be in the game.
-The files are full of leftovers from 9 which means Rockman 10 is basicly an edit of Rockman 9.
-Forte's sprites are basic edits of Rockman and there are sprites that came from Rockman 7 FC (if not very close)

Zan maybe able to post up screenshots. I'm off to sleep. Good night everyone.

I figured they would build a new engine that would anti-alias all these jaggies and include ragdoll physics.

The sprite from MM7 FC actually looks better, IMHO.  I mean if their sprites look anything like the sprite seen on Protodude's Corner I think they went with their own.  Certainly their Treble looks worse.

So, those three extra weapon slots ....

Yeah, would it have been possible for them to use the NGPC Battle and Fighters' sprites? I think they would've been better.

I guess they felt that the BnF sprites clashed too heavily with the rest of the game.

World2 got disowned like SAR and X6.

Well, all those games were included in one official game-release timeline on CoJ's MM9 site (I think; it's been a while). Not officially disowned, but Capcom would like very much for everyone to forget them.

Not wanting to derail the topic, but--I've had to argue with more than one person why Quint is Megaman and that's that. One even cited a translation of the GBA RnF CDs, made before the English release. >.>

Their Slashman is probably different fromt he MM7/8 guys as well.  And it's definately different than the NGP one.

Would it have been possible?  Well ... it should be.  They made the game; it's not by some third party, so they own the art.  Perhapse they don't have it handy?  It's old and probably by a different team.

I meant that as specially Inafune's opinion. Note his statements in R20.

Capcom seems quite aware of Sprites Inc.'s existence. It seems more that they wanted to make their own. More fitting to the actual MM1~6 style.

I just think they probably have the graphical work handy.  Not just at INC, but in their files.  After all, they made the graphics.  It's not by Wonderswan, or Rozner Labs or something.

You might be right in them wanting it to be in a "fitting" Rockman 8-bit style.  Or they might not have had those files handy for some reason (maybe the artist wasn't aware of INC; Capcom isn't just one big person after all).

It ... doesn't make it any good though.

Wonderswan

Bandai man, Bandai. They did the graphics for RnF and CftF, along with the exe games.

Also, it seems they wanted to go with precaution. I knew the Killers were to come back somehow.  :P

Whatever. The point is, they probably have their own art on file.  They don't need INC.

Edit: Maybe they figured it'd match their MM9 style more ... but maybe they didn't have access to the files they probably have somewhere for some reason.  Never underestimate burocracy.  It's just kinda wierd that they didn't use sprites that they probably had access to.

Edit #2: Of course ... they just went with the style they used for Bass' outline in 9, the 8-bit appearance that actually counts.  It was probably the background artist that designed it, although I still dunno why he'd design it as a MM edit rather than, at least, it's own unique sprite.  Haste?  A placeholder until they came up with something better?  Because ... they really can do better.

Enough of my bitching over the style of Bass.

It looks like he retains the infection with roboenza that MM has (first set of sprites in the tiles).  So, despite being a downloadable character, he just might have a bit of story to him, unlike Proto in MM9.  A step up.

What Zan posted is just 1/3 of the things. There are many things and stuff in the tiles. There are the rocket objects that was seen in Rockman IV's final scenes where you escape from explosion after final boss. Forte's R&F like character select sprites and such :P.

I do. ;) The thing is, Quint isn't part of the Rockman Killer series, technically. Heck, he doesn't have a direct serial code.

Who knows? Maybe we'll see him in MM11?

I think the long wait is because Nintendo has something to do with it.
They handle all the DLC and they have specific date for contents (both games and add-ons) to be available.
It's a weird policy, I guess, but it does clearly say "Licensed by Nintendo" for a reason.

You do not  know how happy moi is to hear/read that the Killers are making their triumphant return to the series. TANGO(Has yet to play as Proto Man) AND REGGAE!!~ <3

I wonder, will Bass take double (or more) damage because of his gameplay style, or something similar to it? He just seems like he will make the game easy with his 7-way shooting alone, IMO.

No, he takes normal damage like Mega Man does.
Proto Man is the one with the nuclear core inside him, not Bass. ^^;

And honestly, the Bass Buster isn't really that powerful. It has very fast auto fire though. x3

This bit of news has certainly made my day. I am BEYOND excited for this. I really am. As someone who got into the classic series through Mega Man 7 (as well as Mega Man & Bass), you just can't imagine how disappointed I was that Bass and Treble were left out of Mega Man 9. But now that they've made their way into Mega Man 10, I'm almost over that now. Things are really looking good for this game so far. The return of older characters, more stages, and whatever else. Capcom has definitely outdone themselves this time. I'm glad to see that Mega Man 10 turned out to be more than what Mega Man 9 was (which, of course, was little more than fanservice to Mega Man 2 fanatics).

So he get's weaker fire power but with a fast firing rate like in MM&B, sounds good.
Hopefully the game will be equally as challenging with Bass as it is with Rock and Blues.

Really though, I should just shut up and be glad we're getting him as a playable character for this installment after his semi-abscence in 9.

Screw 'em. I will buy this content just like I bought Mega Man 10. BUT, I would have loved to have this NOW. And considering it's just and unlock code away, I think it's BS that they make us wait a whole month.
Yeah. It's already bad enough that we have to wait over a month for this game's downloadable content, when Mega Man 9's only came out two weeks after the game's release, but because of the fact that these features are already in the game to begin with makes it even MORE asinine.

...Well, I guess I'm just a bit impatient sometimes. Especially since we've all waited about three months or so for the game to come out, and then have to wait another for the downloadable content.

That could be an alternate name for Hard; wouldn't we have seen it in the download schedule?

Either way, the boss and midboss Expert forms certainly won't appear on the Challenges screen.

Yes, that's definitely an alternate name for the Hard mode. Not only does that screenshot have the spikes, Sniper Joes, and Met in the same position, but I honestly cannot imagine this game being any more difficult than it already is in Hard mode.

I mean there IS a possibility that if you No Damage, or No Die, or No Game Over clear Hard, Expert might unlock, and maybe you take more damage or something cosmetic, but with the enemies the same, I'm inclined to say it's simply an "unused sprite" of sorts.

Well... What can you do when you limit yourself to 8-bit style graphics? X_X

I suppose he could have had better graphics, although I suppose he would have stood out far too much from MM and Proto's current 8-bit designs if he was designed any different in the style we have now. X_X

Perhaps he felt that to better compete with Rock, he needed to look more like him.  Maybe Forte thought that it was Rock's naturally good looks that gave him his power & his strong sense of vanity.

While I love Mend's 8-bit forte to death; there are parts of Capcom's 8-bit forte that really strike out at me. For one think, he has an outline. Although, I still wish they used a darker shade of gray. Forte's palette makes him look silver, not black.

What makes you think that? Forte's design is more comparable to RockmanX's than Rock. He's quite a bit taller and has both a chest armor and bulky shoulder pads.

That's absolutely not the case. No matter how much Blues resembles Rock in terms of design, his sprite is completely unique. The body posing and proportions are different.

Compare that to R10's Forte, and it becomes obvious that for all Forte's many actual differences with Rock, his sprite is closer to Rock's than Blues' is. Which is just plain bad.

The NES palette doesn't have a darker shade of gray than that. Which is why a character such as Reggae was drawn completely black. However, Forte being a player character has to exist on black backgrounds also, presenting a very tough dilemma. A dilemma to which I've been pondering the answer myself; the gray is just too light, but the all black presents some gameplay issues.

Didnt 9 already have a few colors not usable on the NES? i do recall that being said. it wouldnt have killed them to MAKE a slightly darker shade.

Also, the dilemma of Forte and Black backgrounds is easily solved by evolving the series and stepping out of Rockman 2's shadow.
HERE WE GO AGAIN!

There's black, dark gray, light gray, and white. those are the shades in the NES palette. Right?
Also, unless I'm mistaken, the mugshots can use a different palette; they aren't restricted to sprite palettes because they're part of the BG. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's a very good alternative. However, that color is actually a dark blue. Forte would getting a very blueish hue to him. It's dark enough to pass as black, but when you actually look closely at it, it kinda makes him too blue for comfort. Still, it's a very nice middle ground to consider. I like the idea.

The sprites and background use the exact same palettes. Which is how MM6 was able to make the most out of its available colors, clever reuse between characters and environment. However.. certain colors, like those that are too dark or too dull, don't look too well in such a small space as a sprite.

Of course, then there's pallete hacking. It's possible, but I just wanted to point it out that a pallete like that is possible with a bit of code modification to match.

They could've also sampled thier RnF pallete and apply the darkest shade to him while the sprites were being constructed. Sometimes, how the colors work well on a sprite or not is how it's handled. If you manage to do it well, congrats. Capcom apparently is going through the same Trial-And-Error route they took while the franchise was nothing more but a series with Bass.

That color is quite a bit lighter on an "actual" NES palette. But, give or take, that's the one used on SheepMan and NitroMan's mugshot.

See here:

With the exception of a mistake on SheepMan's wool, those are the correct MM9/10 colors.

Intrestingly though, the pallete can be messed with, but it was Cappy's decision for a light grey, although the MM&B pallete is applicable to the NES pallete.

And yes, Bass might look better, but would wind up with a darkish aqua tone. Oh well.

Aw yeah, a simple black, white, and yellow palette overall does look better.  The heavier amount of black and gold accents really sell Forte's look, while a low-contrast silver jumpsuit is a poor substitute.  (Why couldn't the Solar Blaze palette be his regular palette?)  Still, the drawback to using black as a fill color is that you can't see the shape of the far fin against a black background at all.  Maybe you could add a couple of light pixels somewhere on it, as a shine, or having the fin tilted toward the camera a bit more?
