Title: French influence on ZX
Post by: ParasiteBirth on July 23, 2009, 07:16:59 AM
A coincidence? Nah, don't even think about it.

Ok since I speak french, I've decided to take a few ZX names and translate them into english.

Vent - Wind
                 > Both names are about freedom I can tell.
Aile - Wing
Praire - Meadow
Giro(ouette) - Vane
Serpent - Snake
Anguille - eel
Silure - Catfish or something like that
Fleuve - River
Chène - An Oak
------------

Well that's a few name I picked up randomly while running trough the base in ZX, and Decided to make a topic about it, I could translate them all on request, just wanted to see if it could interest anybody.

Note that some of this influence was ALSO in the MMZ Series, for example
-----------------------
Ciel - Sky
Cerveau - Brain
MMZ Physis Album - L'oiseaux du bonheur - Bird of happyness -
-----------------------
I could also translate the MMZ names on Request ^^
Notice that a song in ZX had a french name, for example

Cind ville, c'est notre espoir can be translated as - ''5 City, its our hope'' // sounds pretty weird I know O_o

Anyway, I just think this is an interesting fact,  it shows how capcom takes inspiration in really anything, like a langage.and also if you can also translate some that I din't list, don't be shy  owob

you separated it from the main list

It was typed strangely, but Vexan was connecting Vent and Aile together in that they both mean freedom.  :\

The ENTIRE Resistance from ZERO has a french name. Even the Baby Elves (to Pray and Create), Neige and Montagne.

"Cinq Ville" is the name of the city from ZX. Just as "Grand Nuage" is the name for Guardian Base.

Inti seems to like using French names. I suppose it's supposed to sound exotic or something, but to me it's just regular words (having to speak French on a regular basis and all >_>')

So, he is no longer a german soldier but an US marine now?

He never was either. Everyone just assumed a German theme for him for some reason.

This is old news.

The resistance members had names of birds in French
I think the human caravan members were named after different weather conditions in French, but I can't really remember.
The Cyber Elf in Z4 was initially named Croire, I don't remember what the alternate names for it were.

Croire - Believe
Charite - Charity (simple enough to deduce that one :P)
Variable - Uh... same thing in both languages >_>'
Progress - Well... yeah.
Nouvelle - They probably meant "New" with this one.
Recrue - Recruit

Why French btw? XD I think for marketing reasons, because the French culture is pretty loved by the Japs

 Or because it sounds nice?

I'd say it's probably a bit of Column A, and a bit of Column B.

I also like the French Style naming. Then they stop the trend in ZXA.

I was wandering before about Neige = Snow. What's the significance/relevance?

Then here's the answer.
I think the human caravan members were named after different weather conditions in French, but I can't really remember.
I forgot about that. hehe

Then they stop the trend in ZXA.

Just because they started to focus on different people does not mean they stopped the trend.

Yup I made a wrong impression. "Stop the trend" is not the right phrase.

Different country = new name styles. In ZXA they made it more plain & universal. Most hunters originate from various places/ regions I think.
