yeah. i don't regard that remix as one of my best works (i made it a few months after i started composing) but it did get a sudden influx of views after a korean blog mentioned it. it's probably my most "popular" piece as of yet. :P

thanks regardless!

As much as I like the music, probably not. Maybe I'll do something Cave Story-inspired, but that may be awhile since my plate's full with the remix album and the Mega Man themes and whatnot, haha.

BaiiIs8Bit closed his account and I'm not entirely sure how to contact him, so as of yet I'm not sure if he's still going to be a part of this project. I'll try and keep you all informed on what happens.

Well, from what I can tell between when you first started making cutscenes for New Tomorrow and now, you've improved a whole lot. Guess that's what happens when you keep at it (I suppose the same could be said for my music :)).

I'm guessing that knight thing isn't an RM, but, is it? It's probably safe to assume the one on the right isn't Mega Man-inspired or anything, so probably not. :P

A fine cover, indeed! Thanks for enjoying my themes enough to even want to cover them. :3

Nice. Retains the blue overlay without it washing out Proto's colors. See some refinement on the logo, as well! :)

Gotta say that's my favorite.

I'd be fine with it, but, like I said, we still need to wait a bit before we make any decisions like that.

Oh, and NewAgeRetroGamer's decided on representing 3 with Gemini Man! :)

Yep, Kev's finished. So's OmegaMan and MC Jimmy (though MC Jimmy said he's going to be adding a few more things).

NewAgeRetroGamer hasn't talked to me since his confirmation PM, so I'm not sure what he's doing yet.

Absolutely no-one is posting, so I'll go ahead and post some of my progress to try and get this thread rolling again (30 or so seconds yessss). :3

Well, in the meantime, we've also got NewAgeRetroGamer working on a remix as well, as he just sent me a reply after KudosForce had suggested that I message him! We're up to 10 songs now. :)

I dunno. Like I told you earlier, I'm pretty concerned about quality over quantity so at the moment I think we should hold off on anything like that. However, if it comes to the point where absolutely nobody else volunteers to be a remixer, we can probably take volunteers from remixers already on the album if they want to make a second song. But again, this is just if worst comes to worst.

6 minutes would probably be pushing it a bit (but if you have the proper input and think it'd work at 6 minutes or longer, go for it!), at the very least it should be over 2:30, but if you can, try to get it over 3 minutes (just looking at the length of a few of the Chiptuned Rockman songs).

Really like R.A.M.

Like you said, it's easy to remember, and it makes sense (plus, it's punderful!). Maybe we'll make a poll and have everyone vote after we get some more suggestions for names. That is, if I can figure out how to, haha.

Sounds good! I'm a bit empty on the ideas at the moment and can't think of a single thing that would sound appealing as an album name. :P

Already posted a lot of this information up to a few of my YouTube buds and to the FamiTracker forums, so I guess posting it up here wouldn't be too bad of an idea either.

I decided on making an album in the same vein as Chiptuned Rockman (although I haven't thought of a name yet; suggestions for that would be nice if you have any!). So far we've got 9 people in on it (including myself), complete with an album artist (CadmiumRED, from the Mega Man Time Tangent fangame) and everything, and I'd like at least a few more remixers working on this (that is, if you're capable of making 8-bit music).

Before I do anything else, I'll throw down the guidelines that I gave to everyone else doing the project.

We're going to need to say which song we're remixing ahead of time. Just go ahead and post what song you're doing in this thread if you want to be a part of this. If there's a song in dispute I'll either notify both people or the person that requested to remix the song first gets it (oh, and I plan on doing a remix of Proto Man's Whistle from MM3! ).

Spin-off Mega Man games, like in the original album, won't be a part of the album (example: Mega Man X). Game Boy Mega Mans are fine, and so are spin-off game themes that are for original Mega Man characters (example: Roll's Theme in Marvel vs Capcom).

Songs will be in an MP3 format (if you don't want to go through the trouble of making an MP3 just go ahead and give me the .NSF and I'll convert it for you), and we'll put them in a .zip file or something, complete with album artwork (again, by CadmiumRED) and all other CD-booklet things that are usually in these sort of albums.

Here's the tracklist so far (in Mega Man chronology, newest themes to oldest):
1. Kevvviiinnn - Wily Stage 3 (Mega Man 10)
2. Baiisilisk - Chill Man (Mega Man 10)
3. IroncladPhazon - Solar Man/Sunstar theme (Mega Man 10/Mega Man V)
4. commandycan - Magma Man (Mega Man 9)
5. OmegaManZX - Intro (Mega Man 8 )
6. diehardxg2 - Burst Man (Mega Man 7)
7. RushJet1 - ???
8. MexicanSunflower (mex) - Mr. X Stage (Mega Man 6)
9. danooct1 - Game Medley (Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge)
10. NewAgeRetroGamer - Gemini Man (Mega Man 3)
11. MC Jimmy - Flash Man (Mega Man 2)

Like I said, I'd at least like a few more, so I'd really appreciate it if you'd go ahead and post if you want to be a part of this!

This thread can also double as something for progress. If a remixer has a work in progress they want to present to the rest of us, that's fine, but if the piece is completed I'd appreciate it if it were PM'ed to me through either RockmanPM, YouTube, the FamiTracker forums, or through AIM (Screen name is commandycan). CadmiumRED can also show the progress on the album artwork if he feels inclined to do so.

Also: if you know anyone that might want to be a part of this project, be sure to post about it!

Hope you enjoy the finished product when this is all said and done! 8)

Now we're getting somewhere. The argument's been going in circles for quite some time, so it's nice to see some willingness for that to stop.

If you want, you can make a thread about the inaccuracies in 9/10, and I'll tell you more about it there. :)

Oh, and you're welcome, Phil. 8)

Imposing the limits after the fact wont work out well at all. The game needs to be designed with these in mind to begin with. Even the way things are already, there would actually be a fair amount of redesign and refitting involved.

I still don't fully understand what you mean, but you probably have more experience in this than I do so I'll just say you're right and leave it as it is.

Megaman 10 at least makes it believable. And no, both 9 and 10 actually have rare moments of graphical infeasibility on NES hardware. The point I made is that this project isn't even close to believable in many instances.

By no means does Mega Man 10 make the problems I mentioned "believable." If you know how the 2A03 chip is supposed to work and you hear these sounds, they stick out like a sore thumb. How is this any different than the problems you are imposing?

These limits intricately effect the design of the game itself. By then, having levels and bosses done, it may be a little late to go and correct 'minor graphical mistakes'. Its best to design with these things in mind first. If not addressed early on, you're not going to really be able to fix it. Game design 101.

I'm not sure I understand this. Why isn't this possible, exactly? Companies release open betas all of the time, so that players can present problems and have the developers fix them before the game is on the shelves. Even if this isn't a retail game, what makes this one any different?

Personally if I put my blood sweat and tears into it, I'd make damn well sure its done right. Though, it's not my project and I guess I cant enforce quality where its not a concern. I just wish more fan games would take better care to being high quality. With as much dedication as Phil says he has, I just figured this project would have one of the highest chances of doing something really high quality. I mean, he said hes actually made games in the industry before, right? Shouldn't that alone predispose him to want that?

Let me give you a situation. A Mega Man game represented as an 8-bit game is released, and everything is feasible within NES/Famicom limitations, except for the sounds. In some instances, there's 2 noise channels, 3 square channels, tempos that aren't technically possible (on the NES, at least), you get the idea. Despite these flaws, the game is accepted by just about everyone. (Oh, by the way, the game is Mega Man 10)

The point being, there's not much of a reason to sustain a notably large amount of effort on something so specific as stray colors. Sure, the kind of people who play Mega Man Unlimited will be much more centralized than the kind of people playing 9 or 10, but most of the players will not notice the faults in the coloring, some will notice them and probably not care, and only a select few will actually be bothered by them.

Here's something i've wanted to show you, call it a ''tribute'', i'm posting it here because well, the original song is yours

Haha, that's awesome. Already added it to my MP3 library even though it's a WIP. 8)

Thanks for the comments, guys! I honestly appreciate any sort of feedback. :)

well gee this is an old thread

WELL the MP3 is apparently too big so I'm just attaching the NSF if you have a player for that sort of thing. If you want to listen to a high quality version but don't have an NSF player the MP3 is here, at mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?jz3g55zjmgm

i have no fadeout control over konami vrc6 expansions

also i dont have any clue how to turn down individual tracks in famitracker

This is probably way late and you might've figured it out but whatever.

The fourth column in any of the channels (the one where there's three "-" symbols in a row), is used for different effects if you don't already have them set up in the Instrument Envelope. The one for Fade Out/Fade In is the letter A, and you just press A on the first dash and you're almost set. It should look like "A00" as long as you haven't done anything. The first 0 would stand for a fade in, but since that's not what you're concerned about, you'll want to put in a number for the second 0. Higher number=faster fadeout. Also, A-F act as numbers 10-15 in case you want a really fast fadeout or something. Of course, you can always just go make a new instrument (unless you're using VRC7 as opposed to VRC6 and other extensions), and manually create a gradual decrease in volume. For me option A is easier but different people are used to different things.

Huh, took a long time to explain something seemingly simple, if you've had experience with the program.

Oh and you can control volume on individual tracks in the dash between the Note + Instrument number and the Effect dashes. Works the same way as explained before, 0-9 and then A-F for different volumes, F being the maximum.

If you need a visual example of something I can create a FamiTracker file displaying how it works.
