MMF2 Progress Update ;)

You did a  nice job on getting the physics right. It's also flicker-free.

That might very possibly be. But honestly... I completely forgot.

Right now I found these two:

Mega Man IV: Maverick Revenge

and

Mega Man Ultra II

Both should be out by now. Gotta see if I can find them.

Oh man I cannot wait to play MM Ultra III. Loved the first one. Between that, Mega Man Forever, and MM IV: Maverick's Revenge, that's three MM4 rom hacks. Nice to see the other games getting some hack love.

Nice to see the other games getting some hack love.

Exactly. I wonder why MM2 gets the most hacks? Eas it easier to hack than the rest?

Maybe because it was one of the best megaman games of its time? It made gamers love it so much they hack megaman 2 by default?

I donno, just a theory. I'm not familiar with hacking, so I don't know if one is easier than the other. But I imagine hacking any of the other megaman games would be the same as hacking one megaman game.  ;)

MM2 has some of the easier tools to use, especially for color palettes (player weapon colors), and also a level editor. It needs deeper coding to change weapon, enemy and boss behavior though. With a Tile editor, you can also change the looks of a sprite to something else (pixel by pixel), which is the thing I wanted to do for my own Vixy-chan/RPM project. ^^

I'd still like to see more of the later games getting some good hacks. MM4 seems to have a bright future in this regard.

Today I played a bit with Rock and Roll, a Mega Man 1 editor, it looked nice, then I found at that there is a limit to enemy placement. What's worse is that the game was really slowing down when I put too much enemies in one screen, that, and some sprites looked messy.

But I was just playing and testing around, nothing too serious.

Guess I will have to try a Mega Man 2 editor next.

So is it easier to hack a MM game or build one from the ground up? MM7 8-bit is quite possibly the best homebrew MM game I've ever seen.

I say once someone makes an open source public megaman engine, that should be easier to work with.
I mean, with Clickteams products such as Multimedia Fusion 2, once the coding is worked, all you have to do is place the levels around, change graphx, etc. and place the boss rooms & boss where ever you want. Heck, you don't have any limits with enemies. Plus, you can build your application as either stand alone application, or as an internet application. :)

But the downside is you won't be able to play it on any of your portables, or emulators. Considering it would be a fan game made under a different build engine.
