Title: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Rin on September 07, 2009, 07:41:25 AM
Jesus, how many threads do I already have in this section?!

Nevermind.

Welcome. This is a place, where I will show off my musicy thingies that I made with Fruity Loops.

Keep in mind, that I have no actual knowledge of making music, I can't really play any instruments, etc. Yet, that does not stop me from trying making something in that FL Studio program. I've only made like three things in it, and I'm slowly getting better... I think.

Anyway, here we have three things for the start.

----------------
Bloody Madness! - Theme of Crimson Moon Curse
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q4Q04A17

This one was my first more serious attempt at making something. It's a tune I made for my polish-only and constantly rewritten fantasy/s-f story, called Inner & Outer. It refers to a state a vampire goes through when he's cursed with the so called "Crimson Moon Curse". As the title says, it's a BLOODY MADNESS.

I don't know what I was exactly trying to do with this one. I was going for something a bit chaotic. I guess it is a bit chaotic. Meh, whatever.

----------------

----------------
The Anomaly - Theme of Natevurus
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AIFS33DH

This is my second real attempt, which I finished few minutes ago. I really like how it turned out, but holy [tornado fang], is it long. 7 minutes few seconds. I really should make a shorter version of this song.

This is theme song for a chara from I&O. Whatever.
----------------

----------------
Leopard is mysterious
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U6GK5MQ2

This one, I made when I was kind of learning the program. It's pretty crappy, but I'm putting it up anyway, just so I can have more things here at the start.
----------------

PLEASE DO ME A FAVOR AND COMMENT ON MY [parasitic bomb] FOR A CHANGE. IF YOU WON'T DO IT, THEN I'M GOING TO HANG MYSELF... or maybe not. ; >

I'd also upload some soundfonts I've found that I really like, like this Alto Sax and Tenor Sax, they sound great, but unfortunately my disc drive is busted and all my soundfonts are on 1 disc, so you'll have to look up soundfonts for yourself, there are many out there on the web.

I prefer VST/VSTi plugins. Tough I've to give soundfonts a try. I will look some up, thanks for the advice, bro.

I used to use VSTi plugins all the time, but when I discovered soundfonts, I was open to a whole new world of fruity loops.
I was like "[tornado fang], WOAH" and then my music was all like "hells yeah." owob

Well after taking a listen to each track, I can say, you are headed toward improvement that's for sure.
They do seem a little flat, and plain though, like the instruments aren't getting through clear enough.
And there is nothing wrong with making lengthy music, don't feel confined to three and a half minutes, just cause that's the average length of a song.
If you want to make a 30 minute track, go for it, I love epic tracks myself.
Just kinda, mix it up a bit, 7 minutes of the same tune gets pretty boring, mix up the patterns a bit.

Otherwise all I can suggest is read the FL bible, try out some soundfonts. (try out a lot of them, there's quite a lot you can get out of soundfonts)
Mix it up with some plugins, etc etc.
And just keep going, don't give up, blah blah blah, y'know, the whole speech you hear all the time, yeah that one.

Thank you, broseph. I will heed your wise counsel, since it is offered.

Also, I would like to have a listen to some of your own museek. Do you have it uploaded anywhere?

I hope it's not somewhere in this section. I will feel stupid if that would be true.

Anyway, once again thanks. I appreciate your comments.

Original tunes : None that I have saved anywhere, they get trashed quicker than anything else.
Radmixes, in my my thread, for art, music and video. :U
ART IS SPY, RADMIX IS SPY, VIDEO IS SPY
Is what it's currently called, nothing to special going on though.
I've also got some of the Radmixes up on Youtube now, with still images. (Cause I'm lazy and running Linux on a terribly low end and dying PC)

King of Loneliness (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AW71JNEY)

Two simple songs.
I'm just playing around, tough I quite much like the "King of LONELINESS" one.

I wonder if I'm actually getting better or worse?

[parasitic bomb], I was supposed to upload those two tracks from above, but decided against it since they suck.

Anyway, I maed todaaay three new tracks. Here they are:

Attack on TekEter
http://www.box.net/shared/rxjcuk0yca

The Dolls
http://www.box.net/shared/n80z75goho

Natevurus Vs Lady of the White Silence
http://www.box.net/shared/4qhorie959

They are based on my stories bla bla bla.

Also, I have a shitty processor/sound card and I can't use many instruments at once... what do?
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Rad Lionheart on May 09, 2010, 11:32:02 PM
Get a new computer.
Or, if it's a sound playback problem, increase buffer size.

My Realtek AC'97 is old, so I gotta set it to 98ms.
Turn off Poling, and 32-bit buffer, etc.

If it's a rendering problem, get a new processor.

If it's a problem with instruments disappearing when rendering, it's a memory issue and quite likely linked to overuse of the same vst/soundfont/sample.

Okay, thanks Rad. I have taken your advice.

http://www.box.net/shared/9d6ffszfsm

Here's my first try at remixing something without using a... you know.
It's from Wakfu, I think it's Nox' theme. I heard it in the new episode 24, and decided to try my hand at doing something like a remix(because recreating it completely is OUT OF THE QUESTION).
It's a simple melody... but I think it's not bad for a first try.
My certain best friend, helped me out a bit, as in, he helped me figure out how to play the melody like it should be played... even tough, the first time we did it together it didn't turn out good. The second time when I did it alone it went purrfectly... kinda.

Enjoy.

Oh, and sorry for not supplying the original track... but I kinda don't see the point since there's so much background noise [parasitic bomb] over it. Sorry.

Nice dark tone.
If you could show off some faster dark themes (More toward a battle theme), and maybe a few other genre/styles I could recommend you to PJ for his project.

Thanks, Rad.
Who's PJ?

Anyway...
I'm currently trying to learn to do battle themes. For now I only have two tracks which kinda sound like very poor battle themes.

It's those two:
http://www.box.net/shared/t8o4v76loy
http://www.box.net/shared/0sgn88o318

Additionally, I'm trying to do rock/metal/gothic metal musicz in FL Studio, but I have nothing to show right now, cuz all of my attempts sound horrible.

There's also this:

As you can see... I suck.

Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure

PJ, FatherSaintPaul, a former RPM goer.
He's got an MMORPG project he's recruiting for, he's still got a spot available for a composer.
We've got 1 composer who's very retro, one who's very techno, and now all we need is something that fills in another genre/style.
I figure dark and moody would be good, so if you're interested in meeting him some time I can send ya information to the IRC in PM.

He'll be busy and gone today, but tomorrow should be okay.

gDAMN...

I've decided to give myself a project... it's Rockman related.
What's it about, you ask? Well... it's about me making ORIGINAL (meaning no remixes) music for events and characters from Rockman Megamix/Gigamix manga by our beloved Hitoshi Ariga.

Anyway... to start off, here have an early version of the Stardroids theme. It's nothing spectacular.

Also, if you have a suggestion about, for example, what characters/scenes to include in this project of mine... feel free to post here.

kthx.

OH! These are good suggestions. I think I will begin workin' on them, once I finish the third Stardroids related track.

Here, have the theme of Terra. I think, however, I'll have to redo this one in more ways than one. I wanted to go for something dark... like, very.
Dunno.

These two songs came out quite nicely,... even if the first one MIGHT be a bit too long.

Supreme Ruler of Time and Space v3 sounds good =O The drums sit really well with the song =B It's good buildup and atmosphere =w=b GJGJ.

A lot of your older songs seem to rely more on the tone of the instruments than a strong composition in itself, whilst that's not always a bad thing, I like the shift in focus :3 Or maybe you just worked harder
Run! is interesting, but I think the backing violin (viola?) should've changed in urgency when the drums started. It sounds a bit off still meandering along whilst the tone of the song shifts.
Infinity Ark Appears is a bit chaotic at the start with the cymbals (? xD) everywhere. I'm not saying they should be removed, but the frequencies clash, which makes things hard to make out. Try using an EQ on the vocals...?
BGM5 is...hm...interesting, but a bit short for a BGM. Sounds like a space military ceremony or something~ You do interesting drums I'm not saying this because I suck with drums

Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Krystal on March 21, 2011, 01:18:27 PM
Not dark, meaning it's a hauntingly depressing piano/music box theme about a girl who saw death?

Well, either way, I like it. Pianos always work well with music boxes, but I think you should've made the music box a part of the ambience, throughout the song I kept hearing moments where it felt like something inside a lonely room. Strings always make good backing. I wonder how it would sound if you added natural sounds to the song.
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Rin on March 21, 2011, 02:43:49 PM
Thanks again... your input is always appreciated (in fact, input from anybody is always appreciated, but well). : D

Although, I need to ask, since my brain seems to not work how it should... what do you exactly mean by "natural sounds"?
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Krystal on March 21, 2011, 03:00:07 PM
Ambience =O Background sounds. Wind, rain, birds, footsteps, air conditioners those kind of things. It turns music into a soundscape, and a soundscape was the feel that I got from the song~

Of course if you're aiming for BGM, then you should keep it pure. But if you're just making music/sounds for fun, it's a good thing to dabble in! Did it at uni, had fun with it

Copy and paste of my post from a Wakfu thread on plus4chan:

[youtube]http://youtube.com/watch?v=0fjHdoWC4jA[/youtube]

Under that nice link, is my attempt at "rescoring" one short scene from Wakfu.

Rescoring means basically, taking movie audio without original music, and adding different musi to it, sometimes even your own (as in, made by you).
In this example, I made my own song for this scene.
If you guys have any suggestions on how to make it better, then please say so. It was pretty fun though.

Also, I wasn't trying to imitate the Wakfu music style, or anything. Basically I was taking an approach of "WHAT IF I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MAKING MUSIC FOR WAKFU?"

Obviously original music is better... much better.

Anyway, that's it basically... yeah.
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Krystal on May 14, 2011, 06:04:11 AM
I think the score needs more variation :D

It starts off fine, and it works for like half a minute, but the strings don't build up and there's no conveying of mood at like 0:50 or a solid ending at the end~
It doesn't have to be obvious, but the background whine gets a lil dull after some time, so varying it would probably be good. I don't know anything about the original so I can't really judge =w=

Anyway, that's my opinion!

Thoughts: I liked it. Hella repetitive though, esp since the sounds you used were there irritating to the ears type.

Rescoring: It works, you slightly unsubtle about changing the music up at times and your brass (?) pierces way too much for way too long (and I never watched the original) but I had to check the title to see what you were going for, so I'd say it works~
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Rin on May 29, 2011, 04:26:38 AM
Thanks Krystal. : > I will try to be less repetitive in the future.

So anyway, I was writing down and thinking over again one of my two main writing novel-thingy projects, and then I got to writing down an idea for a certain scene and decided to make a short track for it.

http://www.box.net/shared/6t8zjm7pyi

So ummm... guys, imagine you're on an awesome "party", vampires only. THEN SUDDENLY THE GUY WHO INVITES YOU DECIDES TO KILL YOU ALL BECAUSE YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS VISION OF PEACE CUZ YOU'RE ALL SELFISH PRICKS!

Before you all can blink, everyone starts getting chopped quickly into tiny vampire pieces, and in few seconds everything is over...for you.

Yeah. This is what I was thinking when I made this ahortie.
Title: Re: Kharaxel's Music Creating Adventure
Post by: Krystal on May 29, 2011, 07:54:52 AM
Being not repetitive is hard. Especially when your source material is repetitive :< GL though.

New piece: I like it, but I can't see the whole murder thing going on~ It does sound very gothic/vampire-y though.

Here is a song I promised myself I make long time ago.
It's a theme for a character called Rockman Darkness from my old idea for a AU (Alternate Universe) style Rockman comic/game/story called Rockman EVIL.
It was basically a rip off of Rockman NEO. Whatever.

The track in itself is basically some kind of shitty techno. But I liked making it, and kinda like it how it turned out... so I might make more themes for the other characters from that idea. For fun.

I like the Tenmangu -Secret of the Father- theme. It works really well as a simple and foreboding little background piece. You're getting pretty good at atmospheric stuffs.
Personally I'd like to hear a little more melody in the main instrument (harp?) At to moment it doesn't have much in terms of timing or pitch variation.

Okay so... ummm... anybody interested in MMBN5 DS and MMSF3 DS soundfonts?
I made them myself by extracting [parasitic bomb] from NDS roms. : 3

You could use them for some kind of fan games or somesuch.
Or just for fun.
I also made a Knights in the Nightmare DS soundfont, but it only contains few instruments (since the game is using basically only those few).
Oh and the instruments in the MMBN5 DS and MMSF3 are NOT NAMED. Sorry, but I don't know all the names so I didn't bother with it. Only the Knights soundfont has them named since as I said there's only a couple of them and they are pretty easy to figure out (more or less).

It's a theme I made for Saiki to test something out.
You know, Saiki... the [Top Spin] ancestor of that [Top Spin] Ash from KOF series. The one from XIII who is a final boss and [parasitic bomb].
I made this more in mind with something, that if it were to play in the game, it wouldn't play during a fight but cutscene.
I might make a different more "lively" version if I feel like it.

Hey man, thanks for the soundfonts! They really came in handy (http://compo.thasauce.net/files/Mirby_-_Groove_of_Doom(OHC152).mp3) recently!

As for the song you've just posted... it does have a cutscene feel; must be the ambient atmosphere you've got going on.

Sounds like it would play in the scene right before that final battle, actually. Not bad man!

Ahem, yes, ominous music.
I think I like the second one a bit more.

Be sure to readt the video description, it's my another take at making Pokemon fan music.

That is to say, it doesn't sound Pokemonish...
Oh well...

Given how Ghetsis' battle theme wasn't very pokemon-ish either...
Hmm... Interesting take for Achroma.

Yes! I would love to be able to get into composing music like this! Learning how to use my computer as a keyboard and such, but I've been having a bit of trouble finding where to start. =w=;;

Well... getting a program like FL Studio (THat's what I use), would be a start. : D

Then I would advise you to get some free soundfonts. I can give you links to some, that is, if the stash I found is still alive.

And then either look up tuts on the net, or try to learn by yourself.

Say, I have a request for you. Can you do a mash-up between Mega Man 9's "Maze of Death" and TM Revolution's 1998 single "HOT LIMIT"? I think both songs are similar in melody.

Sorry.
But I never did mash-ups, nor do I plan to.

Though... wasn't there someone here who did mash ups? Or am I confusing something?

Here. They are on mediafire and are quite large in size together.

Though their size is nothing compared to dem professional sample libraries (which can range from 10 to 200 something gigs).
Sure you can't complain.

I'm afraid you need to find or buy FL Studio yourself. I'm not gonna help you with that.
Or you can use some of those free DAW's.

Just google: Free DAW program
Or something. Just make sure  you can use VSTs and soundfonts in it.

Hope that helped.
