Title: Square Enix General
Post by: Acid on June 23, 2010, 06:46:54 PM
We don't have a FF general thread, but it was requested. However, I think a SE general thread would be a better idea.
My question as a mod: Should I merge all the scattered FF threads into this one or should I simply lock them?

And something special to open this thread:

After more than 4 years of development we finally get first gameplay screenshots (scans actually) of FF Versus 13

Those screenshots have a Fallout-like feel to them. Second and third one, I mean. Man, it'd be SO RAD if this was open-world.

Some things:

Quote
The upcoming issue of Weekly Famitsu has some new details on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Next to Nomura waxing lyrical about the game's graphics, we now know that:
-The world is an open field, and you can go everywhere except for the mountains
-You can destroy objects that you find on the road.
-You'll be able to use a car as promised. You can exit it and move on foot at any time as well.
- Enemies will be visible on the field, and while some enemies are wandering around, others will suddenly appear and surprise you. (This clarifies what the random and visible comment meant, and it also confirms that game will be similar to FFXII in that sense.)

Screenshots in the magazine (yet to surface) are, according to Nomura, running on PS3 hardware, yet they conveniently lack any icons and menus because the game is a monstrous secret.

Meanwhile, GameInformer ran a tidbit about the game going multiplat. We'll see how that develops.

Better Quality Scan:

And a translated interview:
Quote
Is this a real-time screenshot we’re looking? The image quality is very good.
Yes it’s an image in real-time using the real hardware. We aim to improve the quality you’re seeing now even further. As of now we can’t share more details in full scale right now, so we removed the menus and subscreens where it shows Noctis expression (image projected on the subscreen).

Were the party members also there originally?
Yes, we removed because we haven’t formally announced their weapons and clothes yet.

The exquisiteness and shades are like a photograph taken from real life.
Indeed, we’re using physical calculations to determine the movement of the clouds. By this time it allow us to filter sunlight and others on Versus XIII.

Is the cliff to the wilderness & the Gas Station set in the same location?
Yes in the back of the Store is the cliff to the extended wilderness. You can walk all the way, to everything you see but the mountains.

What’s this giant Enemy on the other screen?
It’s a Military Behemoth and he actually bears a huge sword in his back. As for this pictures, the battle screen were on the screen but we omitted it.

Q: The street of Shinjuku is real.
Yes, it’s our model for this, even the bicycle lanes and crosswalks are decipted. But the sense of distance has been changed a bit since the last time. Right out of the city you encounter the wilderness with electric wires every as it’s this kind of territory for this country.

This region, It is only the Prologue, the early stages, nature is so even there.
Movement around this area is easy because you can use a car. Getting on and off the car can be done anytime, but only not possible to go all the way through it because it leads to a region underwater that has been shown on promotional trailers before.

Monsters appear on the field?
(Laughter)…Yes, there are monsters that appear on the field; Some staff were doing the tests and were surprised by how good looking some are in the evening sun.

Are the battles seamless, what about the world?
It’s basically seamless and we aim to make it even more seamless, but there are loadings between big areas.

Information disclosure, is very restrict as of now.
Development is very advanced along and according to expectations we’re taking steady steps; wait at ease please, information on Versus XIII will come. Moreover, we’re making preparations for a Big announcement.

You can actually see a signboard and things written inside in the screenshot?
The signboard is still temporary even though the inside of the Gas Station is modeled after the Stations in the US in detail. It’s possible to go up there using the stairs.

Do you play in this perspective the whole game?

Yes. The camera basically sits in this position. We decided to priority to the character’s presence and the world; that said we decided to scrap the over the shoulder perspective of the world.

In another report they stated that all menues and interfaces were removed. So the Behemoth screen is actually from a battle.

And I realized that Photobucket resized the scan, so here are the two shots again:

Yeah, but KH action rpg style interfaces or regular ATB battle screen interfaces?  And if it's not an action rpg, I wonder what that other project was he was talking about were you could siphon the skills and abilities from your party members or something o.o

Seeing how they describe Versus with "Kingdom Hearts' combat basically, but vastly improved" I'd say going the KH route is a safe bet.

Just to add some fuel to the fire, there was an interview with SE stating that they didn't want to remake V and (especially) VI on DS since they felt as though those games needed more than what DS offered. A few weeks later, the 3DS cover letter got "leaked" to the internet...

In other news, I've played and finished Chrono Trigger for the first time in my gaming life, and now I realize that I. NEED. MORE. CHRONO. I wanna try Cross soon, but I hear that it's a real downer after playing Trigger...

I'll still never forget this conversation I had with the Ninja Lou one night, as we were hanging out, eating chinese food, and watching something...

PB - "So Lou, I've beaten Chrono Trigger a few times and gotten the different endings. I'm curious about something.

Ninja Lou - "Sure, go ahead."

PB - "I'm curious, does Magus ever find Schala?"

Ninja Lou - *puts down his fork and just sighs*

PB - "What? What's wrong?"

Ninja Lou - *sigh turns to disgust* "THAT is what Chrono Cross was suppose to be, or should have been."

PB - "...it wasn't?"

Ninja Lou - "Nooooooo...."

Then he proceeding to explain the story.

Oh I know about the issues with the story thus far. In a uncharacteristic maneuver for myself, I went and wikied some of the very basic threads between the two just because I loved Trigger's storyline & mythos that much. What I found though was something so "HOLY [parasitic bomb] WHAT? WAAAAT!" to me that it's now easily tied with Legends & Jet Set Radio at the top of my "game series that deserve a 3rd entry after years of hiatus".
I think that Cross isn't really trying to be all "lolgrimdark", it's just that there hasn't been another game there to offset the bleakness of it's storyline yet. This also leads to a fun little assumption I got with the games so far. If Trigger started everything, & Cross tied them together, what would Break have done..? ([tornado fang], I love this kind of [parasitic bomb] so much, why oh why didn't I pick up on this series before? XD)
Title: Re: Square Enix General
Post by: Aresian on September 10, 2010, 10:18:54 PM
Well.

I guess I am once again a minority. I liked Chrono Cross, a lot. Granted it wasn't a "proper" successor to Trigger, Cross wasn't bad at all.

Granted I think a lot of people played it when they were too young to fully comprehend the story, I've found that after playing it again a few years prior to my first time playing it, I enjoyed it even further.

But to each their own I guess.
Title: Re: Square Enix General
Post by: Jericho on September 10, 2010, 10:28:57 PM
From what little I've read on it, I think I'd enjoy it just as much as I enjoy Trigger, but damn, it's a pretty jarring shift.
Forgot to mention that the main reason I stick by the "Cross won't be bleak if the third continues the story". The reason I stick to this is mainly due to the whole myth behind Leene's bell. You could look at it and say it only meant "Happily Ever After" for the events of that game, but if those events are being tampered with thanks to forces beyond the control of the mains there (through Serge's natural dimensional hopping), wouldn't it make sense that the bell's tolls are saying that "everything ever" will be ok in the end by virtue of being a part of the Chrono lore/story?

Yeah, this is kinda reaching, but I like it so far. XD
I personally love Cross and Trigger equally.  Mainly because the story becomes soooo expansive in Cross.

The only flaw is that it does throws a shitton of info down your throat which well...can be really hard to digest.

Everything else is just opinion and taste.  I personally just reccomend to give it a shot and see if you like it or not.

Seeing that TGS is merely 5 days away I felt the urge to say that Versus and Agito will be shown. It won't be much, and Versus won't have any HUDs or interfaces but we will finally see gameplay.
As for Agito: Apparently the game has improved a LOT since the last gameplay has been shown to the public and the dev team is optimistic that we will like what they're gonna show.

I am however not informed about any other games right now, despite Nomura confirming that he's working on a whole bunch of unannounced games which will be revealed later.

OK. I don't care for Vaan... I hate Vaan in fact. Balthier/Ashe/ANYONE would've been a better choice. PENELOPE would've been better... but seriously. Ashe or Balthier is more main character material than Vaan. Basch would've made more sense as the alternative to his... err you get the point.

Am happy about Laguna though.

It's a worthy pickup for people who have not played either or are very big fans of the games. The added scenario to tie the games together mean that Zeromus is no longer a final boss, but serves more like a "mid-final boss" akin to the World of Balance scenario in FF6.

Information chunks

We have word early this morning that several German sites have listed Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy for Friday, March 25th in EU territories. While Square-Enix has yet to confirm the release date, the sites also list a special edition will also be available that includes a mini-CD, artbook, and an exclusive outfit for Tifa Lockhart. No word yet on the North American version, but should the March 25th release date be confirmed I would expect it within the same week.

Formerly the Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference, the Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere (or… SE1PDP?) will be streamed online live to 300 Japanese Square-Enix Members and 10,000 Nico Nico Douga members selected at random. The official sign up page (link below) is your ticket to getting a chance to view online, and you’ll be notified by January 11th if you’re in. The conference will showcase Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and many other Square-Enix titles. We also have reason to believe that new game announcements may take place at the conference as well.

Quote
The post-Jump Festa Famitsu magazine had some new information for some anticipated titles from Square-Enix, and Tetsuya Nomura was able to shed a few new details on the upcoming Square-Enix 1st Production Department Premiere on January 18th. The reason for the week long delay (from Nomura himself) was to coordinate timed releases of information with magazines such as Jump and Famitsu.

In the realm of Duodecim, he commented that new character announcements are yet to come, and the next reveal may be a character from a SNES era of Final Fantasy games. Since we’ve already had Kain Highwind from Final Fantasy IV revealed, this would largely indicate a reveal from Final Fantasy V or VI. It also looks as if the original narrative from Dissidia: Final Fantasy will be toted along in some form, though we’re not sure if this is actual cut-scenes or text.

As for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Mr. Nomura guarantees us we will see plenty of new footage although the graphics have had a reasonable upgrade since the footage was compiled. Main character Noctis Lucis Caelum has a voice actor, and we’ll be hearing him talk in the footage that makes it out of the conference.

Quote
Square-Enix launched a brand new site for the new PSP Final Fantasy IV compilation: Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection. The single UMD will house the original Final Fantasy IV, graphically updated in the likeness of Final Fantasy I and II Anniversary nearly half a decade ago. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, only available on Japanese cell-phones and WiiWare, will also make the jump. New pre-rendered cut-scenes have been added to the package and feature The After Years characters as well.

Revealed at the Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere event today.

Quote from a friend who quoted someone else.

18:57 -- The FFXIII-2 trailer showed Lightning in armor. She was engaged in a sword fight with a purple haired man.

18:55 -- Toriyama leaves the stage and Kitase takes over.

18:55 -- They were only able to show a short trailer at the event, but development is progressing well, says Toriyama. They are working so that the game serves as the answer to the opinions they received about FFXIII.

18:54 -- It will be released in 2011.

18:53 -- The game is being developed simultaneously on PS3 and Xbox 3560.

18:53 -- Toriyama says that fans have been asking for a sequel. The FFXIII development staff also wanted to show players another dramatic story and game with Lightning.

18:52 -- Here's a pic of the logo, courtesy of 4gamer: clickly click!

18:51 -- Toriyama takes the stage.

18:50 -- Motomu Toriyama is directing again.

18:50 -- The game is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360.

18:50 -- It's Final Fantasy XIII-2!

OK, just saw the VersusXIII trailer from the stream ok...

TONS of show on the battle system, it's definitely an Action/RPG more so close to KH (the HUD looks practically the same) BUT.

You can ride Tanks and Bipedal machinery.

There's also this new hot armored chick later in the trailer.  There's also a glimpse of what seems to be an overworld section in a lush country view.  We'll find out more in time.

Oh and they'll reshow these trailers in better quality at the 27th (except the XIII-2 teaser, which will be shown again at the 20th) of this month.

Nonetheless, aside from KH: Dream Drop Distance (lmao), Versus XIII still holds the highest interest in me.

Actually the trailer for KH DDD (or KH 3Ds LMAO) is also pretty interesting.  There is one good set of news for that title, you can swap between Riku and Sora (or so it has been claimed).

What else...

Prishe from FFXI is confirmed for Duodecim.
And apparently having a file for the demo of Duodecim (Prologue it's called) will let the person have Aerith as an assist for the final ver. of Duodecim.

>Square claims to be listening to the fans

Yeah, I call bullshit.

Versus 13 looks very interesting. However, I have no hopes at all for 13-2 and question why the hell it even exists. They're wasting resources.

And for you Dissidia 2 people, here's an early present for everyone. Found within the playable character area of Prologus' data:

(http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/d/d7/Gilgamesh.png) (http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/3/3f/Prishe.png)

For the slow: Gilgamesh (FF5) and Prishe (FF11) join the fray.

So, with that we now have eight new (playable) characters confirmed:

Cain, Gilgamesh, (???), Tifa, Laguna, (???), Yuna, Prishe, Vaan, and Lightning.

Assuming Nomura's statement that only SNES and beyond games are getting new reps is true, that leaves four new characters to put in. FF6 and FF9 have yet to get new reps announced, leaving two left to be decided between FF11, 12, and 13. Expect 13 to at least get one of those.

I'm playing Prologus and Lightning and Cain are actually pretty fun. Lightning is quite interesting with her 3 styles, Blaster sucks on the ground though. Anyways, any ideo how to choose which attack the assist does? I don't mean choosing between Brave or HP though.

No, Sephiroth is confirmed as Cosmos too. Something about this being a prequel and it shows his betrayal and him committing suicide or something.

It's referenced a few times in Dissidia.

The assist jus pops up close to the enemy, so depending on where the enemy is they will do a different attack (air or ground)  They only have 2 attacks each for both hp and brave

He's been back since 2007 with the original Dissidia.

Also, I like how the character art style is the Avatar version, as seen in KH: Re: Coded. Also, player icons in Dissidia 012.

Knowing Spoony, he'd be terrified. I wonder, who's the one responsible for the art style?

I believe this style was first used in some online Kingdom Hearts Avatar Mobile game in Japan. That's likely why it was used in ReCoded as well (within the game, there is a mini-game where you can customize your avatar).

I should've made myself more clear, but I wanted to know about the artist who made them, I apologize for that. :P

It's more of a second mode accessible from the main menu, but yeah.

It was called Avatar Kingdom, and it linked to the normal Coded. Hence why it's in Re:Coded.

When will final fantasy 6 get a nice remake? Not that it needs it but it still would be nice.

Is it a remake or a HD port?
Title: Re: Square Enix General
Post by: Mirby on September 14, 2011, 02:41:01 PM
We don't know the full details of that yet, Acid. All we know is that it's gonna be in HD, and it's gonna be on PS3 and Vita.

Any extra features and stuff is as of yet unrevealed.

Although they'd better be basing this off of FFX International.

It's most likely a HD port. People call HD ports "remakes" even if all they do is some upscaling and cleaning up the resolution a bit. I can achieve half that crap by simply turning on a damn emulator.

Think about it a bit. They're not making a remake. They're making a HD port. Final Fantasy X is a title on the PS2, which means they just need to clean it up a bit texture-wise, upscale it and that's it. Also, it's a fixed camera game. Meaning, they got their work cut out with alot of pre-rendered pics they can just alter the resolution of. Way easier than XI or XII, which are bigger in size and have rotating camera, as well as a bigger amount of content.

It's money in the bank. It is NOT a remake. They are NOT going to remake some other game you love in 3D. This is just the easiest game they've got to transition, as well as a very popular one at the time.

Long story short: Square-Enix wants money. This port is easy money. Money is good. Port is made.

Danm....right, is a good move, port a bad game means

-cheap production
-if the product have bad sales , is not a big deal

Preach on Brudda!!!

there's a HUGE difference between a 'remake' and a 'upscale update'

I thought it was cool that John DiMaggio was the voice of Wakka.

Then I played the game and got to know Wakka's religious, bigoted character.

Voice of Bender better as Kimahri.

So apparently another FF13-2 English trailer is out. It's not on Youtube yet, but you can find it here (http://www.finalfantasy.net/).

Kaisas is voiced by Liam O'Brien, whom we also know (and <3, or at least I do) as Kain.

You know, it's a shame that Kain got such a boring EX Burst in Dissidia Duodecim.

I mean, it's cool, but I prefer everyone else's because you can break their bravery mid-burst. Kain? It only hits once. :(

But yeah, he's awesome.

Looks like according to an interview, Yoichi Wada's got a big plan for the Deus Ex franchise.

If it's a Final Fantasy crossover, I never asked for this.

Hey that's pretty quick.

It took them five years to present that Versus trailer.

(And we haven't seen anything new since then - two years ago)

I actually liked 13-2... or, no, I don't. But I really like Noel.

There hasn't been a protagonist with their head rightfully on their shoulders like him since Zack and Zidane.
