Title: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 13, 2013, 09:53:30 PM
I didn't see a thread for this (Besides one for City Folk that never got any replies and was made in 2008), if there is somebody let me know and I'll lock this one.

Anyway, Animal Crossing New Leaf just released in the US this past Sunday, so I figured that we could have a thread for it.

The game is basically the same as all previous Animal Crossings, except you get to be the Mayor of the town you create! As Mayor you're able to set Ordinances or start Public Works Projects to build new shops or decorations for your town. The rest is pretty similar to the classic games, and as before you're able to visit friends towns and all the other fun Animal Crossing stuff.

Anyway, my town is called Mist Mt., and my Character is a female named Clefant.

Just starting out of course, I've unlocked the Garden Shop, the first upgrade to the General Store (T&T Mart), the Shoe Store, and the QR Reader. I'm about 20,000 bells away from paying off my house loan and my Town has Apples.

Hopefully some more people will join in and we can start visiting each-others towns. That's really the best way to enjoy the game after all. And I want to litter pitfalls everywhere, that's fun too. 8D

I'm wondering what to call my town when I get the game. :\

I need to get in this series. I heard its about as life-ruining as TV Tropes. 8D

I'm wondering what to call my town when I get the game. :\

To be fair I thought my name up on the spot. I was gonna be a dope and name it "Inaba" or something but I don't want to be that guy. Also why I named my character Clefant instead of something different, its a perfectly odd name and I would've never thought of it if it weren't for my recent rename.

Thundera shall be my town name!  8)

I can't wait to visit every town and steal everybody's fruit to make all the fruit trees.

I forget, do trees of non-native fruit die or not?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Sakura Leic on June 13, 2013, 10:09:12 PM
If they aren't planted in the right spot yes but when they are fully grown no.  Delicious fruit trees are hard to grow and can die after you shake them.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 13, 2013, 10:11:08 PM
There's a different kind of fruit? That must've been introduced in a later game, the last game I played before NL was the GC version so lots of stuff is kind of new to me.

Its sort of odd to have information regarding City Folk on the top of the thread seeing as this thread is pretty much New Leaf talk seeing as that's the most recent game. :\

I know. I just decided to stick Animal Crossing information all together, doesn't matter if you pay attention to the top or not.

Besides, people can see it's a really old post, so it shouldn't confuse them.

I'm glad you can identify forgeries now, Redd you won't be selling me fakes so easily now.

I'm glad you can identify forgeries now, Redd you won't be selling me fakes so easily now.

It only helps if you know art though or have a guide to determine the fakes.

I didn't the first time and bought a forgery. :(

There's a guide to that on that same wiki.

Probably, I hear it even extends to furniture.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 14, 2013, 05:59:22 AM
The island would be more fun if I could have a villager to make drop lots and lots of bells like in the GCN version, now its just a resort with minigames (which are just digging, fishing, bug-catching, and smacking some thing with a hammer.) At least there is some cool stuff there, brought back Durians, Bananas, Lemons, and some cherry looking thing.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Sakura Leic on June 14, 2013, 06:00:55 AM
I believe those are Lychees, if you see tomato looking this those are Persimmons.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 15, 2013, 12:25:17 AM
Yeah, that's it, Lychees.

I didn't see Coconuts or Persimmons though. :( The Lemons and Lychees were only in the "Tour" maps for Bug-Catching and Fishing anyway.

Posted on: June 13, 2013, 11:35:19 PM
My Banana, Lemon, Durian and Lychee trees grew. And Fishing sucks, I hesitated and lost a shark, but I got a Coelacanth shortly after, so i guess it evened out.

You going to get it Physical or Digital?

Physical of course.

No better way!

Plus if something stupid happens to the 3DS I don't have to re buy my games.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 15, 2013, 06:36:18 AM
Exactly my reasoning.

Well... that and Physical is usually cheaper.

I think I sort of figured that when I saw you online earlier on the eShop (I was checking to see if some of my friend requests went through finally), Then I checked again later and you were on AC.

How are things working out so far?

I'm just paranoid really.

I'm a cheapskate and a fan of having tangible items, even if they took far too much effort to acquire! 8D

So far so good. I got my shovel, and I'm getting some Bells so I can buy things and such.

How so?

Physical games are usually cheaper, and in terms of getting things that are a pain to acquire, Fire Emblem Awakening thanks to Nintendo's lowballing screwing my city out of any copies for a week.

I have AC plus like 50 other games on my wishlist.

PLUS a Wii U...
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 15, 2013, 07:45:48 AM
Get on that!

But start with Animal Crossing, we need to all visit each others towns and such.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Phi on June 15, 2013, 07:50:33 AM
You mean like we can visit a town as a group? Or only one person can visit a town?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 15, 2013, 07:52:29 AM
Up to three visitors at a time.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Phi on June 15, 2013, 07:55:12 AM
Please tell me we'll be able to chat in those visits. And I don't mean pre-set words that Nintendo loves to do.

Yeah.

Its kind of clunky though, seeing as you have to type manually and such.

We have to open the ticket gate in our train stations. There's a nice detailed explanation there too about the other bits of online play.

Time to start whacking them with my net and putting more pitfalls infront of their house.

We should start a Dream Code database up.

Dream Codes are for an online feature called the Dream Suite that allows you to visit other's villages in a "Dream". Basically you can look around the town of somebody else without being their friend and without consequence as you are free to wreak havoc. I think there's some other perks to it but I haven't seen that much of the feature so far.

Anyway, my (current) dream code is 5100-2153-1686.

I say current because they say they'll cycle the dream out if it's been outdated for too long.

I got a Neutral Corner from Tammy, right after that I put it for sale at Re-tail, eventually Camofrog buys it.

Camofrog gives it back to me as a gift, for some odd reason.
So I put it back up on Re-Tail.

Yeah. As long as someone's on the internal 3DS Friend List, you'll be able to visit their town. (Provided you're on their list too, of course)

Yep.

Some Buildings at Main Street are Public Works too, mainly the Museum Expansion and the Dream Suite, I think the Fortune Telling House is too. Others like the Gardening Shop and Kicks come from buying stuff at the Tailor or pulling weeds. And Club LOL is the easiest, requiring just some signatures and your permission to Shrunk. That's the only way to get KK Slider Songs.

Post by: Sakura Leic on June 26, 2013, 06:51:23 AM
Yeah that limitation they put on Redd's sucks, but I guess being able to see forgeries makes up for it.  That and not worrying about getting certain furniture since he doesn't sell any other than statues.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on June 26, 2013, 07:11:34 AM
Yeah, but even the Statues can be forgeries too. I like how some things are always genuine though.

There's a guide on the Animal Crossing wiki that can help you and it makes the forgeries obvious.

I had a dupe, but I sold it. You can take a Virtual Boy though.

Also got an Arwing today. Just a few more items left.

And yes, you both need to be playing so your gates are open.

Yes we both have to be playing, we both go to the gate and talk to the monkey.  You tell him you want to invite people and I tell him I want to see someone and after a while I'm in your town.

The changes aren't that extreme. Changed color is what it sounds like, customized with ore just redoes the furniture to be shiny with pointy edges and the color of the ore you used.

Also I only need the Modern Cabinet and Modern Lamp and I'll have completed the Modern series. Now to get enough Amethyst to finish customizing that to be the Amethyst Modern series.

It gets a second floor but it's just called an expansion.  Anyway you have to talk to Blathers on 14 different days and make sure you at least donated 20 or 50 items and at least one in each category.  You'll see him thinking and he'll request it.  A week after that he'll request a Cafe.

Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Mirby on July 08, 2013, 10:40:31 PM
That's based upon the answers you give Rover at the start of the game.

Later on, you can get contacts at Shampoodle's.

Or you can wear face gear like the shades I'm wearing.

Also, how do you buy your t-shirts that you designed yourself?

You don't.

You go into the designs menu, select the design, and choose WEAR.

You need a slingshot to get those, or a net when it passes over the beach. The rewards are crappy balloon items.

So I just tried the online feature for the island, where you meet up with others around the world to hang out and play mini-games.

I was dropped off at the island "shack" and met some guy named, Diego.

We went outside and there were tons of holes on the ground everywhere. I didn't even question it. Then he proceeded to ask for my Link hat, which I denied to give to him.

I then asked him what he wanted to do, in which this assclown replied: "make fort"

He continued to make more holes and when I was standing in his way, he told me to move. I blacklisted this idiot in less than 2 minutes of coming to the island.

[tornado fang]ing retard.

Wow.

I remember some stories some people have from the island excursions from the General on /vg/.

There was one guy who arrived there, while there was only one other person on the island. They did nothing, said nothing, and stood in front of the Gyroid by the door. I think she gave him money but did nothing else.

There was another who met a girl there and I think they may have actually hit off a relationship but I could be seriously wrong on that.

Oh, its raining in my town again. So much for "The rainy season being over".

So I somehow managed to get 3 Streetpass Houses in the Happy Home Showcase including Reggie.  Between his and and girl's house I've ordered 10 pieces of furniture in the past 2 days.

Yeah there's some great stuff in reggie's house.

So I got a streetpass from a guy today who has a fully upgraded house.

I go inside and there's a solitary Balloon Closet in his first room. Second Floor, Basement, Left and Right Rooms are all barren, the last room in the back has all the Nintendo items save for Mushroom Mural and Block Floor.

Very wierd.

Okay Sakura I ordered everything from the Alpine set this person had except for the Sofa (They didn't have the cart, sorry.)

Holy [parasitic bomb], I had the Alpine Kitchen Cart in my catalog this entire time.

So I guess you'll get the whole rest of the set from me!

I'm going with Classic, Regal, Modern Wood, Sleek, and Alpine and reupholstering everything.  I also found out unfortunately that if a furniture piece has been reupholstered in the Happy Home Showcase you can't order it and since I reupholster everything I can not a lot of things in my house can be ordered.

Well, contrary to the [Bumpity-Boom!] I ran into earlier on the island, the second time around I met someone pretty cool.

Told me about which beetles are best to farm and whatnot. We played a few island games and beetle farmed (unfortunately the Hercules Beetle was nowhere to be seen).

But yeah, she was actually really fun to talk to. So we exchanged friendcodes.

Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Phi on July 13, 2013, 07:36:27 AM
What's this island thing?

The previous mayor, Tortimer, visits your town one day and tells you to meet him by the dock.

When you speak to him, you'll have access to his island the next day (a boat will take you there), where you can play various mini-games (by yourself, or others around the world), fish, beetle grind, collect fruit and dive underwater.

Also, you can collect island-exclusive souvenirs like a wetsuit.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.

Ahhh. I didn't know you could invite other people to the island
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Police Girl on July 13, 2013, 08:17:45 AM
The Wetsuit, by the way, gives access to the most tedious and painfully dull collection to obtain, the deepsea life.

It wouldn't be so bad if you swam faster, could see the [tornado fang]ing jellyfish, and stuff didn't occasionally decide to just disappear without any warning. Seriously [tornado fang] diving.

According to Katie, PB's town and my town are the only two places she's been to.

I think that should be fine actually, plus I have Night Owl ordinance.

Also I found a place where you can see some examples of customization but any furniture in that set can be customized.  I think PB will love what happens to the Exotic Set.

No but once you get the Expansion in the Museum you can find them pretty easy.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Phi on July 21, 2013, 03:27:20 AM
Anything in particular you need to do to get the expansion? Or does it just happen one day?
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Sakura Leic on July 21, 2013, 03:37:22 AM
Talk to Blathers for 14 days, donate I think like 20-50 items, and have one of each category.  You'll know when you got the project when Blathers is thinking.  2 weeks after the Expansion is built you can make the Cafe, which I just built.
Title: Re: Animal Crossing Thread.
Post by: Phi on July 21, 2013, 03:42:06 AM
Oh, that's probably why I don't have it quite yet. I only had this game for 13 days.

So I'll get the project soon enough, since tomorrow makes 14 days and I donated a crap ton of stuff, including one in each category.

Unless there were a couple days where I didn't speak to him... I don't completely recall. But either way, it should be soon enough.

We all need to hang out again at some point.

I want you guys to see my basement. I made it into an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet area. 8D

I still need to find more food items though.

My basement, when fully done, will be an arcade. Right now I'm working on expanding the back room into the new Nintendo Room, so I can make the main room a Sleek living room area. Speaking of which, Hey Egoprentice. I need a Sleek Dresser, Side Table, and Closet pleaaaaaase!  8D

Also, I'm really proud of what I drew for my face cut-out standee

Unfortunately, I find myself playing this game less and less. I still update my rooms on occasion, but that's about all I do now.

I still play every day. Thundera isn't going to govern itself.   8)

Found more food items for my buffet room. My asian-inspired room, on the other hand, is pretty much finished.

I think I'm pretty much done with all my rooms. Right now, I'm just trying to get all the K.K. songs.

That's about it...

I'm going to upgrade the Modern Wood Furniture room next, I got a lot of Modern Wood Furniture from the HH Showcase today since I had a lot of street passes.

*sees the state of the thread*

Wow there's weeds, clovers and even a rafflesia in here!  Someone needs to clean this up!

Anyway it's been 3 years since this thread was last used but there's a new update to New Leaf out now that adds a whole new features.

[yt]https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bk3dAR0M68[/yt]

So let's see we got....

*Amiibo Support, tons of it
*Buying items from Harvey and the Trailer animals
*Desert Escape from Amiibo Festival and Puzzle League can be played via the Wii U and 3DS items respectively.
*The secret room expansion that effectively gives your character their own hammer space
*Simple everyday tasks that gives you MEOW coupons, the currency used at the Camp Ground
*Being able to re-arrange your furniture like Happy Home Designer with the touch screen, yes!
*Being able to order GIANT furniture if you have save data from Home Designer.
*Being able to sell your Town to Tom Nook when you recreate it so you start a new game with a huge wad of cash

So yeah that's a lot of stuff.

[spoiler]Finally......SOMETHING THAT MAKES GETTING HAPPY HOME DESIGNER WORTH IT!  Though I probably wouldn't use it.[/spoiler]

EDIT: According to Mirby you can find Wisp in town between 12 AM and 4 AM so you can start with the Amiibo stuff.

I haven't confirmed it yet but that's what my research said at least. Also you can only sell your town to Nook if it's at a certain prestige level, apparently.

Anyways my town has a bamboo infestation of my own making and my axes keep breaking trying to solve it :c

Right the more prestigious it is the more money you get.

Also I really need to do more Cafe Jobs.

EDIT: Oh I forgot, in order to be able to move furniture with the Touch Screen you need to get the Secret Room Expansion and in order to get the Secret Room expansion your current loan has to be paid if you have a loan at the moment.

Actually from my research there's a minimum prestige level required to even sell your town in the first place.

Yeah I reviewed the Direct and it does indeed say that in the *fine print.

Also I think those new Trailer Amiibo Cards actually come out in December according to the official website.
