Original / Re: Finally! Megaman's Soccer ending has been found!

Maybe Wily triggered a self destruct like he did in MM4 and 5.  But it's wierd that MM just stands there as Wily runs away.  Maybe if they animated it so MM is looking the other way, but he's just crouching as Wily runs off.  Wily's an old man and MM is a robot ... how can Wily get away on foot?

I've gotta say ... even though I like the Protoman moment and some of the music, this has gotta be one of the worst endings in the series.

Look like I was wrong in my guess that Protoman's cutscene was the intro to his "battle".  They sort sort of ... stuck it in there, didn't they?  For all the info we're given MM just stands there and dies when Skull Castle blows up and Protoman's mourning him while lookimng at the sunset after making his own escape.

The Protoman cutscene would have been a nice addition.  Was he one of the Wily fortress bosses in the game?

Original / Re: Official Timeline
« on: July 30, 2011, 06:45:27 PM »
So, which sourcebooks are the timelines presented in?

If it's all just logiced out, that's fine with me, but I was under the impression that this was in a sourcebook too.

It's pretty convinient that they put PF in a "different timeline".  That's one way to reconcile all the "wrong" moves and inconsistant designs, I guess.  I wonder if they had Roll's and Wily's new looks thought out by then too (as both use old looks in that game, despite it being post-8).  No way to know for sure, I suppose.

Rockman Series / Re: Sequels: How does Mega Man get away with it?
« on: May 05, 2011, 02:32:47 AM »
I don't know if the series did.  I remember reviews in the day getting tired of the series never changing and it did bite the dust after 8 for a good long while.  Even now MMU has been cancelled and MM PU didn't do overly well.

Yeah, I have no memory of this either. I have been around since 95'. I still remember Maelgrim. Anyone else? [eyebrow]
I do believe so.  Gary reposted his MM1 story and changed a few of the names on the Sinister Six.  Much later on I heard he didn't actually liek the name changing bit.

Well, that's the site from 2000, not 97.  If you read it, you'll notice it says it's reopening.  There was a few other sites - like Mandi's and the Sinister Six, that had screens.  But this was the only major MM site with Eddy featured.  I seem to recall it having a large picture of Tango in the past along with sprites and wallpapers to help fledgeling MM sites get into shape, if that helps.

Protoman DID help Megaman fight Dr. Wily in the show, though.  So that memory you have ... it doesn't really mean it's from an unaired episode.  Either you or the webmaster could have assumed it was unaired.

Back in the day we had far less information than we do now.  I mean, the early MM sites were great for the sheer enthusism the fans had and the way everyone made webpages with a unique flavor ... but nobody but Mandi or Red Draco had anything remotely resembling unseen tidbots of information.  And it wasn't until the Planet Megaman and Megaman Network days did we have anything close to insider information.

Sorry, but take it from a guy who'se been there, you're remembering wrong.  If you won't take my word for it Lysekoid and Gren are also relics of that earlier age, you might want to ask them over at the New Horizon forums.

I'm not surprised.  Speculation on the show was very popular.  I was around back then too, although not active in the community.  I went to all the pages you likely did and I remember nothing about screens from an unreleased episode except for the promo cartoon at Mandi's site.  I was, of course, older than 10.

His site mentiones being the first to have info on the only episode in Season 3 - Crime of the Century.  It's likely that the memory of this other fellow comes from there.  Screenshots from that show were very hard to find back in the day (even now I think I might have the most extencive image gallery on them), so seeing something you didn't recognize wouldn't surprise me. Especially when we had the promo video and Superadventure Rockman and many confused MM fans to deal with.

Bear in mind - you were 10.  Memory's a funny thing.  For instance, I once said to my sister that I always wanted the Sword of Omens from Thundercats.  My sister said I had it when we were kids and insisted I did when i said I didn't.  I reminded her that I only called the sword I had "the Sword of Omens" because I really wanted one, but never actually had it.  Similarily I also remember being convinced Astrotrain of the Transformers was an Autobot on the show.  Not true.  I have no idea what gave me that impression.  Maybe the episode where he fought Megatron.

Anyway, I visisted Eddy's page and, had there been screens like that, I woulda saved them.  I still have Pixelboy's sprite and image archive you know.

@xnamkcor

MMM costs me nothing more than anythign else at the Mechanical Maniacs.  Other than time in maintaining and updating it, anyway.

TCRF is aware of MMM and thinks they're a "trainwreck".  They do have some valid points to that (the articles and section are in desperate need of an update), but they'd simply take what they wanted if they wanted it.  Seeing their work is what makes me question the value of MMM.

@VixyNyan

Really?  Even if I wind up copying some things from a wiki site like that?

The qestion isn't about deleting it.  I don't delete ANYTHING on the Mechanical Maniacs.  Ever.  And that MegaWrold damage guide is still good and not on tcrf.  Rather, I'm wondering if it's worth keeping it updated.  I hate to admit it, but I'm outclassed.  Right now, the only "unique" things I have to add are screens from the Official Guide to Megaman (which were posted somewhere before I got around to it) and info on the now-cancelled Megaman Universe.

Edit: And and insanely high-rez version of White City from Nintendo Power.  But I can post that regardless.

I didn't get much credit for the sharing tho. ^^;

Yeah, I know the feeling.  It's the wiki mentality, I tells ya!

On the topic at hand, I've actually been thinking of stopping Megaman Mysteries.  It was original when I first started, but now actual hackers are finding things at places like http://tcrf.net (and they are not fond of my own effors, I tell you) and more and more I find I'd just be replicating their content more than anything else (although they don't have any prototype screens, which is something at leat).

I could use some feedback and it's relevant to the topic.  Does it help to have things all at MM Mysteries?  Or do you guys think I should give it one last review and call it a day?

I don't know how many of you guys know about the Cutting Room Floor, but they do have a lot of relevant things there.  Definately worth checking out.

Since I love a challenge, I actually found the link to Eddy's old page at Archive.

is there anything of note in those screens?  I have the disk, but didn't see anything really noteworthy ... although Legends isn't really my sorta game.

Yeah, I asked him what his hair color was.  IT WAS ME!   >0<

I also asked him what color it was, but he didn't answer.  If he said fucia, then it was after the panel.  Glad someone got that tidbit of info afterwards.  It was nagging at me!

His favorite obscure Robot Master is Kornoman.  I dunno, it seeme dimportant to know what his favorite obscure robot master was.

Original / Re: Rockman 1 mobile version
« on: August 24, 2010, 05:12:42 AM »
Yeah, I've had some problems with hotlinking.  Mainly with ancient wallpapers I made back in 2001, if you can believe it!  Enough is enough, says I!

Sorry for bumping this up, but to answer this question, from the screens you've shown, the answer is two.

1) You gotta understand that cell phones come in different sizes.  Hence the difference between the first two screens you're showing.  You can see that the picture of Megaman isn't different, it's just adjusted to look good in different sized screens.  Those really small and kinda neat (IMHO) graphics were for phones with very limited graphic ability.  So the other one from 04 belongs to the same version of Rockman, just for a different sized screen.

I suppose you might call them different versions, but the code behind them is likely the same.  Only the graphics have changed, to allow for the best resolution in the different sized phones of the day.  Nowadays phones are much more powerfull, which is why you don't really see compressed sprites like you did for Rockmans 1 and 2 back when those cell games first came out.  I haven't done reaserch on the subject, but the other classic games, at least, just might have compressed versions for them.    But I can't really say for sure.

2)  I don't think you can rightly say the Japanese version is truly a different version than the english.  Again, you may technically be able to, but it's really just a matter of some sprites and words, so ...

3) Now the 2007 version IS a totally different version where you can unlock Roll.  I think the Wily levels are preserved for this version as well.  Actually, I wish the sprites for this version were available .... and maybe an emulator too ...

Hope that helps!

Looks like they went back and forth on that background and floor ...

Just finished watching these.  Glad they're finally done ... been waiting a long time for them!

I'll add my voice to the chorus of people eagerly awaiting Axcess subs.  Yeah, I know it was dubbed rather terribly. I'd still love to see the ending ... especially now that it's off the air.

That's the version number.

Okay, I resaved them all (accessed the hacked saves and then re-saved so REW is the one doing the save state writing, except for the first one).  But the very last one is simply MM at the teleporters with no changes made.  If it can't load even that something's wrong on your end.

It should work.  I tested ALL of them myself.  I'm on Windows 7 and had to use XP Virtual Machine to use Save State Master so you should actually be able to use it BETTER than me.

I'm using REW12STX.  Everything works fine on my end.  Maybe you should try renaiming the save ste in question to .st0 and see if it's just being in the first slot that does it?  Since it all works for me, it can't be file corruption or anything like that.

There's no helping glitches that happen.  Remember: you're not actually supposed to even have Top Spin at this point.  But, more levels means more chances to show Top Spin's good, right?

Gimme a moment, I'll try to make something.

Edit: Okay, here's a few saves that put you at the start of all the levels not normally playable using Top Spin.

http://themechanicalmaniacs.com/Downloads.php - go to the bottom.

You can use Save State master to use Top Spin in any level by editing a save state.  Use the REW gameboy emulator.  However, it might bump you to the teleporter room after you win.  Can't recall exactly.

Sadly, Top Spin really is useless against bosses from MM2 here.  Still, you can use it throughout any level.

Also, if anyone wants to prove the Sakugarne is not useless, feel free to use the same technique.

71
Wow, I guess I'm the only one here who didn't really like it?

Rock and Blues are mere afterthoughts in this short story and I'm left to wonder why they were even included at all.  It's just "Bass kills everything the end".  I liked that Forte cared about Gospel, but it seemed kinda like rushed fanfiction to me.  Maybe the dialogue will save it if it gets translated.  But I doubt it.

I know one was made one for the Wily Wars.  I still have it on the Mechanical Maniacs.

At least it charts the bosses.

It's be interesting to investigate Top Spin futher in the other games (MM2 GB and WW).  Then you can show the improvements made to it.

But, I hate to say it, that vid does not show Top Spin being very effective ...

74
I wouldn't mind a MM in the veign of the Astroboy movie.  Megaman actually has a lot less to change.  He has no abusive, absent father.  His costume isn't him in just underpants.  And his overall drawn look has varied enough over the years to allow for some flexibility (especially in the face; while Astro's style of drawing is MUCH more fixed since he's one of the most classic anime characters of all time).

I wouldn't mind seeing one new Robot Master in the movie.  Just one will do.  Maybe they could kill him quickly.

75
After MM9 MM3 hate became vogue.  The return to early 8-bit created backlash against anything that tried to do something new.  7 - R&F had flaws, just as every game.

I remember when MM6 was generally considered the poorest among hardcore fans.  What do they say about it now?  "MM6 shows just how great the NES can be before it was finally shelved".  The fanbase is fickle.
