It was all true. Phoenix Wright, the Ace Attorney himself, is heading to the big screen in Japan. All the amazing and juicy details are below!

Capcom is pleased to announce that the popular game, “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney”, will be made into a live-action feature film.

In the “Ace Attorney” game series, players take on the role of a defense attorney who fights for the lives of his clients. The first game in the series was released in October 2001, and since then, this popular courtroom battle series has gone on to ship over 4.1 million units worldwide (as of March 31, 2011). This critically acclaimed franchise has also inspired cell phone games, comic books, character-based merchandise, as well as orchestra concerts involving the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and even a stage musical by the Takarazuka Revue.

In the movie, the main protagonist, Phoenix Wright, will be played by Mr. Hiroki Narimiya, while rival prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, will be played by Mr. Takumi Saito. Pheonix's assistant and spirit medium Maya Fey will be played by Ms. Mirei Kiritani. Mr. Takashi Miike of “Crows Zero” and “Thirteen Assassins” fame will be lending his directorial talents to the film. Production management will be handled by Nippon Television Network Corporation and distribution will be handled by Toho Co., Ltd. The movie is scheduled to be released in early Spring 2012 at all Toho Cinemas nation-wide.
Capcom continues to provide entertainment in the form of movies based on our most popular franchises, such as last November's smash hit “Resident Evil: Afterlife”, which broke box-office records for the series. Currently, a full-length CG movie, “Resident Evil: Damnation”, is in full production. In addition, the animated “Sengoku BASARA” feature film, “Sengoku BASARA - The Last Party”, is scheduled to open on June 4, 2011.

As always, we at Capcom will continue to pursue our “Single content multiple usage” strategy by making advancements on new hardware to maximize sales while leveraging our brands to bring maximum satisfaction to as many of our users as possible.

Oh yeah, I can totally see this working. I've seen certain movies centered around mystery that's not scooby doo and they've been grand. With Pheonix Wright heading to the silver screen I do hope this goes well.. unlike those other Capcom-Based series of movies..

Plus these actors could actually fit their roles.

Workshop/DA/YT/Photobucket なにかんがえてるの!?
So its about ass now huh? EVEN THE ASS HAS 'EXCEEDED'!

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

Well, looks like they're not using ridiculous amounts of hair gel and wigs and dye to try to get the characters into the original hairstyles. So I am totally okay with this.

I mean, PW has awesome storylines and characters, and it doesn't rely on a whole lot of action (aka we won't get terribad CGI) so as long as they don't decide to reboot and butcher everything it could be good.

Anyway, Takumi Saito looks hot enough to pull off Edgey. 'cept for the lips

Hope they eventually bring it over like they did the Deathnote movies. In fact, Id like it MORE than those. Never really was a Deathnote fan...

Back on topic though, Phoenix better have his trademark memory shape alloy slicked back hair!

You know, i could actually see Phoenix Wright as a TV series. That would be funny. TV is no stranger to courtroom dramas, after all...

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

They definitely weren't anything that stellar. Theater was full of L's and Misas. >_>;

Point stands though, those were brought over and screened here. I hope they do the same for Phoenix.

You best be joking.
Death Note "raibu actionu" movies were awesome, and I don't mean it in "so bad it's good".
I [tornado fang]ing enjoyed them GREATLY.

I thought it was an excellent way of doing the whole "display evidence to all" thing since holding it up in your hand looks stupid and is sometimes impossible due to the ethereal nature of the evidence.

I think using the holograms add a great deal of "impact" when you're pressing someone with evidence. When a person plays the game, it's fine just seeing them hold the evidence as it's mostly a text-based adventure. This on the other hand, is a grand-scale movie, and the staff likely wanted to leave a lasting impression with huge holograms that show the truth.

And anyway, It's not like holograms make the Ace Attorney universe any more outrageous than it already is.
