Hey there SEGA fans!

Today is the day you’ve been waiting for. In the months since we announced a special little game code named Project Needlemouse, you guys have bombarded us with great interest and questions about what the game might be, who that figure in the silhouette really is, and when we were going to start releasing more info about the game.

Well, read closely and rejoice – because today, we’re finally ready to start talking to you guys more about what Project Needlemouse is all about!

This week, we’re going to reveal a full list of playable characters in Project Needlemouse - if you guys can live up to our oldschool Sonic challenge, that is! Here’s how it works:

1: The Details: Each name on the picture above is a potential playable character in Project Needlemouse. However, not all of them are going to make the cut – and each day this week until Friday, we’re going to update this picture with a rejected stamp over those who will not actually be showing up!

2: The Challenge: Answer our trivia questions about oldschool Sonic games! (Genesis era) We’ll post trivia questions each day on a specific part of our SEGA/Sonic sites, and you all have to work together to figure out the right answers and post them there! Each day we’ll challenge you guys to get a certain number of people to post the correct answers – and if you meet that challenge, we’ll remove more names from the picture in a new blog the following day!

*About Bonus Points: If you go above and beyond the expected results, the community will earn a bonus point for that day. Earn at least three bonus points and we’ll give you all something special this Friday!

3: The Schedule:

* Monday: SEGA Blogs
* Tuesday: SEGA/Sonic Facebook
* Wednesday: Official Sonic Forum
* Thursday: SEGA Twitter

Now, honestly? This definitely just sounds like nice bit of trolling on Sega's part. Especially with that "Sonic's new Friend", thing (which as we should know, is a misnomer, since that was Sonic's name during the early days of the Sonic 1 Project development).

So, basically, it's looking like none of these picks will make it (thank God). And no Tails/Knuckles either means they're not here at all, or they'll be secret character characters.

But any way...

Remember: It’s all about momentum. This statement holds as true with this challenge as it did in the Sonic games that many of us grew up playing.

Alright, so amidst all the goodness that was Hokuto Musou, TRINITY Zill O'll Zero and Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza) 4, there was more for next week.

Apparently, "a popular robot series will be unveiled next week". That's all we know.

So, place your bets ladies and gentlemen.

Armored Core?
Gundam vs. Gundam for HD consoles?
Another Century's Episode 4 (wouldn't mind that, certainly...!)  8B

...OR....

...dare we say...Kojima makes good on his "teases" at long last?!  8B 8B

Stay tuned next week....!

Gaming / Sega to Announce a New Shinobi game in 2010?
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:10:09 AM »
Alright, so this here is an interesting little story in itself.

Around this time last month, the Hip Hop Gamer Show had an episode where the guy claimed that Sega was going to announce a new Shinobi game, using an "improved version" of the Bayonetta engine. (My mind tries to even wrap around that kind of possibility....  8B 8B)

But hey, what does that guy know, right? He hasn't always been a reliable source of information, if nothing else.

However, then the most recent "Four Guys - 1up" podcast had an interview with Constantine Hantzopoulos of Sega of America. The question of this supposed Shinobi game came up again. When queried, Hantzopoulous said..... "No comment".  8D

...And then, at the dawn of the new year - Platinum Games has now put a new countdown on their site.
http://www.platinumgames.co.jp/ (Go take a look! It's PRETTY!  XD)

A lot of people have been thinking that this could be related to Shinji Mikami's game, which has yet to be unveiled. But what if it's this Shinobi game instead? Or maybe... Mikami DIRECTING a Shinobi-Bayonetta love-child?  8B 8B 8B

As some one who loved the 16bit classic Shinobis, as well as the PS2 game...such a thing like this stands to make very happy. Especially if it's true! Stay tuned.

Also, while I'm at it, Bayonetta should be arriving in your neck of the woods by tomorrow, depending upon where you live.

If you have a 360, you already know what it is. GET IT! If you only have a PS3? Well, sure, it's a rather shoddy port, but even in spite of that much, the game is still amazing. STILL GET IT!  XD

Some Japanese guys play the Red Coins Stars while avoiding capture by the 1up mushroom. Hilarity ensues. This is actually MUCH tougher than some one may give it credit for!  8D

Talk is all Japanese of course, but it shouldn't be hard to infer what they're talking about even if you don't speak the language. There is some intro stuff at the beginning of each new video (like talking about location of the red coins). Aside from that, enjoy!

Say hello to Border Break. Sega's new Arcade Mecha action game, with 10 v 10 play, and made by those gods among men at AM2.

Even the controls are overtly similar to Virtual ON's, as any body who remembers the twin stick configuration is sure to flash back like I did.  8D

Any way...can't wait for this. PLEASE, Sega, for the love of all that's good, do NOT let this be an Arcade exclusive. You've got too much of your goodness stuck there for your own good, and this definitely should not be one of them...!

This hails from Reno, one of the more notable personalities I know in the FG community, as well as a regular poster on NeoGAF and SRK.

Quote from: Reno
According to an arcade operator friend of mine (later confirmed by another source), Sega will be announcing a new 2D fighter at AOU2009 on Feb 28 - 29. The game will be another Sega/Arc Systems collaboration though, so I don't know how much excitement this is going to generate.

Anyway, expect an announcement at AOU for the game. I don't think it'll be HnK2, but you never know...

Now, while he may be doubtful about a sequel to HnK, I personally think it may more likely than one might be inclined to think.

As it stands right now, there's really only two reasons that ASW and Sega would have just cause to continue to deal with each other, in spite of splitting up a couple years back. And those two are Hnk, and well, Guilty Gear X/XX.

Possibly the ONLY reason I can't imagine GG being a part of this, would be because this would do more to interfere with ASW's marketing of their new flagship, HD-marvel, BlazBlue. It's a rule of thumb in arcades that many devs, including Capcom and SNK, have had to learn the hard way: it's NOT good practice to try and market too many of your products at the same time. Especially when you're trying your damndest to make a good impression with something new and untested vs. an old flame that's tried and true.

So, for that reason alone, I could not see a GGXXX, yet. That would only do more to hurt BlazBlue, and I'm certain ASW doesn't want that.

That said, it leaves the window open for either a) HnK 2 or b) something else entirely. Any body who remembers my former SN will probably have a good idea of what I'm personally rooting for, but we shall see!  0v0

In any case...

Another goodie revealed in this week's Famitsu ish.

Seems like Atlus of Japan, too, wants to get in on this "2D style Vs. Fighter revival", by bringing back their quirky series that starred, among other crazy individuals, evil grannies that could kick your ass several ways to Sunday. With their DENTURES, no less.  8D

As a fighting game fan, as well as one who loved a number of the games in this series, I'm looking forward to seeing what this game could be all about, as it looks like it just takes off right where the last game left off. Even the overall sprite/art-style looks to be the same.

Any way, I just wanted to share...and if you don't know at all what I'm talking about, well then....

Gaming / Question. Who here remembers "Bushido Blade"?
« on: December 26, 2008, 02:52:26 AM »
For those of you who have a fond spot for this PSX-era "stylish kendo simulator" series as much I do, you might be interested in what I have to say.

For those of you who don't even know what I'm talking about, well, allow me to elaborate.

Bushido Blade and its sequel were fairly popular fighting games during their era, that were developed by a company named "Light Weight" and published by Squaresoft. The main thing that separated this series from everything else out there, was the way the fights themselves were conducted.

While it was still "1v1", this 3D fighter did some very different things. For one, there was no time limits, no life gauges, no super meters, nothing that you would consider "status quo" for fighting game interfaces. For two, you and your opponent had free reign to wander about the given arena you were in, which often were multi-tiered stages that allotted for being able to roam about as you pleased. Oh, and then there's the big thing: One hit KOs were very much the norm, and, at least in the US versions, that meant grisly death for your character.

A number of different weapons and different characters, all with their own attributes and styles, made for nice variety all around.

This type of innovative fighter was something that people dug very much....and then were heart-broken when it was found out that Light Weight and Squaresoft parted company. The exact details of what happened during that time may never be known, but it was reported that Squaresoft, legally, kept the "Bushido engine" for themselves. I suppose that would be a good reason why none of Light Weight's future and similar games in the "Kengo" series, were never quite what Bushido Blade was.

But any way....so an old pal of mine gets in contact with me about a few days ago. While we were talking rather casually and catching up through IM, eventually, one thing leads to another, and then he spilled the beans....

Bushido Blade 3. It's FINALLY happening. No, this is not my lame attempt at a "Reserved" topic, or whatever that particular meme is called. This [parasitic bomb] is for real. And he would be at the liberty to say as such, because he's helming the project himself.  0v0

Any way, he's still being relatively tight-lipped about the thing, which won't probably be officially unveiled for another matter of months. But he was able to whet my appetite with a few choice details.

* currently, the game is still at least 13 months away from being complete (so sometime in 2010 is probably going to be the release date)

* will continue to use the Bushido Blade engine, and seeks to just add more to it (more weapons, stances and etc, is what I could glean)

* will be VERY, VERY gory; the game definitely is more of a Western/American-focused project

* will NOT be a continuation of the story from the last two games, and won't have any of its characters come back, due to the legal snafu with Light Weight (so sorry, no Tony Umeda  ;O;)

* will be 360 exclusive, he and his team have no interest in developing the game for the PS3

* trying to shoot for showing off the game for the first time no later than Summer 09 (if not earlier)

* website will be up "very soon"

So, needless to say, as an old Bushido Blade fan, color me all the various shades and tints of excited. While it's still a long way from being complete, the thought of being able to throw swords into people's faces again, is enough to make me melt.

I'm just sorry I don't have much more in the way of proof to back up my claims. But my friend, in the while I've known him, has never given me reason to doubt on what he stands to deliver.

Stay tuned...
