Typo.  -u-'

Though now the link doesn't work because the site appears to be down due to heavy traffic.

In a nutshell:  In the year 20XX, the entire world is under a single socialist government with food production and the like totally automated.  The government sponsors regular battle-bot tournaments to take the populace's mind off their strict law enforcement policies.  The most popular team in these tournaments is the Mighty Numbers, built by roboticist Dr. White.

During one of the tournaments, an unknown computer virus is released which infects Mighty Numbers 1-8, and they start running amok and spreading the virus all over the world.  Mighty Number 9, considered the Mighty team's weakest member, is the only one left uninfected and thus the only one capable of stopping the other Mighty Numbers from wrecking everyone's [parasitic bomb].

Commander Shepard: *stares blankly at a video of scantily clad asari dancers* ...What kind of hotel is this?
Liara T'Soni: It is a luxury resort with an... exotic edge.  Azure is slang for a part of the asari body in some places on Illium.
Shepard: Where?
Liara: The lower reaches, near the bottom.
Shepard: I meant, "where on the asari body?"
Liara: So did I.

It's working now.

As I posted on the MN9 forums:

Quote
The Xels are definitely the cornerstone / basis of Mighty No. 9.

If we compare the worlds of Mighty No. 9 and Rockman, both 20XX, we see an equally colourful and lively bunch of robot characters amidst a human society, However, the similarities end there.

The 20XX of Mighty No. 9 and the 20XX of Rockman are very different. Rockman began in 200X, whereas Mighty No.9's 20XX timeframe appears much more removed from our own. Perhaps as far into the future as the second half of the 21st century.

In Inafune's own words:
http://kotaku.com/keiji-inafune-says-mighty-no-9-would-kick-mega-man-s-b...
"Unfortunately, Mega Man is an older robot and uses the older parts. A little bit too old school, I don’t know if he would be able to compete with the newer, shinier version of Beck.”

Blackwell's Xel techology defines the difference between the older robots from Rockman and the newer robots from Mighty No 9. It undoubtedly played a vital role in changing the societal structure to an unprecended peaceful era of humanity. Furthermore, as the key to Beck's tranformation ability, we may very well liken the Xel technology to X and his limitless potential: advanced technology which even the greatest minds of the next century could not analyze for the longest time.

All in all, where Rock fights for everlasting peace, I'm confident in saying that Beck lives in the very world Rock fought for. Inafune's new universe can explore human-robot relations in a future freed from the doom and gloom of RockmanX, but with comparable levels of technology. Though the Xels may create conflict now, and become a tool of war, they also provide renewed hope for a better tomorrow.

Which does a bit to showcase that maybe, just maybe, M#9 exists as a world that could be yet another "alternate future" to MM's timeframe. Nice touch, I would say. It kind of reminds me of how Bayonetta does plenty to continue where Kamiya's DMC left off (right down to explaining where Dante got the "Tony Redgrave" moniker).

In a lot of ways, Mighty No. 9 reminds me of the original "Super Rockman" concept.

Heh, now that you mention it...

I do wonder what kind of story they will try to tell this time around. Part of me was always hoping that we'd get something closer to Ariga's manga, and I couldn't help but think that maybe this might be it.

It seems like it's going to be about the Xel. But they can go a lot of places with this.

...When Larry the reploid accountant goes maverick of his own accord, he's certainly formidable during tax season, but he isn't going to provide X the challenge needed to make him grow as a warrior and reach his potential.

I haven't been following the comments page that often so I don't really understand, but why is everyone so opposed to her?

I guess all I can really say is it isn't exactly what I'd expect out of a $4.4M game

It doesn't even have mouth animations

I'm sort of looking and it appears she just has really skewed political opinions, but yeah I haven't seen any of her comments at all.

Also the acronym SJW is getting thrown around a lot, I don't really know what that means.

Google says "Social Justice Warrior ".

she aligned with some feminist post on twitter and suggested that Beck should be female.

and made that very kind of ugly fembeck picture.

theres a good few people shouting doom and threatening refunds if she gets out of line.

dhe swears they are just her opinions and will not affect the job, but I worry all the same... Someone with a political agenda really shouldn't be in charge of being the community mouthpiece

Yeah, I can see where this can be a problem, too. Opinions are like a lens, after all: they color the way that we view things. That she'll be the "lens" for the Mighty No. 9 community...  X( X( X( X( X(

Here's the posts in question

It stirred up a bit of a shitstorm when it first occurred.

I know I shouldn't be suprised about a feminist thinking that making a character female promotes female rights since most video game heros are male but I can't help but think "Really?"

I mean I love the fact that I can choose to be female in Pokemon Crystal and beyond, but I don't think that, let's say, Link should be female just because I'm female.  It's Link's story not my story, I'm just experiencing Link's story through his eyes.  The character in Pokemon is a blank state so it makes sense that you have the option to choose gender so you can become the character, but Link is established so I don't feel I should impose my view onto him.  That's what I think at least.

Well that's a...strange decision.
strange indeed, considering...

She never played MM, and yet suddenly in her intro, "X series da best!" And got the job no doubt because she knows a guy inside.

Also, miiiight be time to start panicking...

Maybe i'm just paranoid. But this scares me.

Looking at the posts in question... I've seen worse. Sounds like some overreacting on her detractors parts to me.
maybe, but considering the facts,

*she never got into MM and suddenly loves the X series
*got into the job because she knows someone inside
*made remarks relating to some of the more radical feminists and criticized that Call should be less girly and Beck should be a girl
*deleted some of those posts from her twitter
*radical feminists are legit asking her for help applying for a job in the company (see above image)

More than anything, it's just a "worry" that she might not be entirely trustworthy as a community mouthpiece or that she could abuse her power to have her specific wants adressed. I hope this all turns out to be needless worry, but yknow, I DID pay like a hundred bucks to their kickstarter, so im allowed to be apprehensive.

Yeah I think that's the main concern here, the worry that she's not going to be professional about this.  If she can do her job without trouble fine, but if not it's not going to be good for anyone.  But if it does get out of hand I'm sure it'll be dealt with one way or another.

If she's a designer that means she could potentially [tornado fang] with the game and stuff right?

If that's the case hopefully they don't give her too much free reign, that would be disastrous.

But yeah, not really jelling with this girl's way radical opinions on stuff.
