Title: Fandom Stupidity
Post by: geekgo4 on May 27, 2010, 10:48:22 PM
It is me or are fandoms gatting dumber? Jumping to conclusions, missing the point of things, etc.

Like for example, Many fanfreaks hated Cartoon Network's block, Miguzi(a Lighter and Softer Toonami aimed for a female audence, lasted from 2004 to 2006) for taking Toonami's place in the weekday lineups and moving Toonami to Saturdays. They consider Miguzi as Toonami's death and downfall, when that is NOT TRUE!

I bet you know some fanfreak idiocy much worse than mine.

You know what was the death of Toonami? THIS (http://cartoonnetwork.wikia.com/wiki/Fried_Dynamite)!

And even that didn't last long.

But, wasn't it suppose to replace Fridays?

Well I wanted to vent some hate towards a sports show airing on a network (mainly) for animated shows, but the real cause of the good Friday's death was, of course, Fried Dynamite. Whoever at Cartoon Network thought that those hicks were funny should be shot. -AC

hey stupidity is the purpose of fandoms.

Yes, fandom stupidity has been around long before we discovered the internets, remember some Star Wars-relaited fandumb incidents?

And Miguzi's purpose was to balance female and male audiences, it's why we have shows like Totally Spies and Powerpuff Girls on CN. Then again, YAH (Or, You Are Here) will be around until the next friday block.

Since the expansion of anime in the west, i'd say Toonami served it's purpose.  :P

When did that happen?

Slamball aired around the time Fried Dyna--Douchebags came on the air on CN. Quite frankly, a few crappy shows got canceled, like Brain Rush and Survive This! (what a frickin' Survivor rip-off).

Let's not forget that stuff happening to Touhou and almost started to happen to Rosenkreuzstilette thanks to a certain someone who previously lied to people about RKS that know absolutely NOTHING about the games.

Learn to use the Double Post Merger function Mr.ZX.

..AND RKS was an unrelatively unknown game at that time, and Touhou was mostly a favorite. :/

And yes, CN Real was a mistake, however, AD (Adult Swim) was an enlightment, as we wouldn't have the Boondocks nor Saturday anime blocks and friday brit comedy blocks either.  :3

I already did learned how to use the Double Post Merger before you even posted your comment...

Yeah but that was the cause of why the English RKS fanbase sucks thanks to that. If the successor of Alfred Kahn didn't invented these believable lies and insult the RKS series while someone like TrickMasterMint and myself tried to get the game better attention for the English community, then the English RKS fanbase would be in a much better shape than it is now.

As the number of fans grows, so does the number of stupid fans, obviously.
Stupid fans tend to get a lot more attention when they voice their stupid opinions, as most everyone else (who are not stupid, be they fans or not) disagrees with them.

Well pray to God that a fanbase never gets someone as stupid as this Ice Fairy (http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs28/f/2009/251/c/d/Happy_Cirno_Day_by_shingenjitsu.png) and makes up retarded lies about something, or else I will put out my *fart noise*in' gun and shot 'em. :3

I agree, because The Boondocks is one of my personal favorite shows (among others like Robot Chicken and Super Jail!) and as for the live-action my favorites are Mighty Boosh, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, and Delocated (can't wait for the new season in August). X3

It keeps all the little shits in one place.

Actually, it is partially true.  People who blame Miguzi itself are wrong.  The blame definitely goes to Cartoon Network though.  It's not Miguzi's fault that Totally Spies is downright unwatchable.

You know, some would say you would regret saying those words. But, I'm not that kind of person.

What did you hate about Toonami?

I honestly don't see why you would post that. I can't imagine why I would regret voicing my opinion about a series of doujinshi games I have never played and know very little about. The fanon doesn't bother me at all because I'm not a fan, and hence I don't treat the series as SERIOUS BUSINESS. In a similar vein, I don't have much of a problem with the fans, because I haven't spent enough time in the fandom to meet any who are particularly viscious in their enjoyment of the series. I've only come across people who are either casual players or fans who enjoy the series unironically and without an extreme prejudice against everything else that falls outside of the series's categorisation. If you're talking about my opinion on Toonami, then so what? Are the fans going to suddenly turn into a rabid horde and track me down to lynch me in cold blood?

And I never said I hated Toonami, just that I didn't like it. It just didn't appeal to me. Probably because Toonami over here was, from what I can care to remember, pretty awful. I don't remember it ever showing anime, for one thing.

Toonami was what introduced me to anime, albeit passively. For some odd reason, whenever I went to my great-grandparents' place as a kid, it was always on the TV (and for some reason, always showing DBZ). Kinda lost track of the block as time went by though...

What I love the most, is how he actually acts out every single insult thrown at him, so the insults actually FIT HIM. "Look, I'm sucking Daffy Duck's cock!" "Look, I'm Edward Scissorhands!" And what's worse, he actually tries to argue the insults. That's basically like going to a psychiatrist's office to get a claim saying you're not mentally retarded, just so you can wave it in the face of a person who called you a retard. It's...

But John's wang is supposed to represent the Adonis, the David, the Adam, the perfect and natural form of a human man; which is presumably intended to be ironic, since mentally and emotionally he's totally detached from humanity.

It's not like it's a big deal, anyway. You have Eddie raping Laurie's mother, Rorschach splitting a guy's head open and Adrian destroying major cities for the greater good, to name a few choice scenes that aren't of a family-friendly nature in the slightest.

I don't quite agree with the notion of his mother assaulting her own son, if that's what you're getting at, but somebody ought to slap some sense into the guy. Going into a major hissy-fit and then posting it on the internet for all to see is just rubbing salt into the wounds, and this Josh guy is only going to tease him further because of it.

Unless, of course, he genuinely loses the plot and strangles Josh or something.

In other places of the world, there might be freaky people, but society puts them in place so they keep the stuff to themselves, maybe locked in a drawer in their own rooms. People kinda exercise some common sense.

In the US? Sue anyone you like. Do anything you want. Land of the free means you can think you're an Otherkin and act like an [dark hold] to everyone else because you're the chosen pink dragon of the rainbow kingdom, and when you go back to your world, they'll seeeeee!

I saw the photo once of a person holding that head. It's probably one of the most horrible mental images I've ever had in my life. All I can remember is the dog still had a peaceful expression.

Just saying. You can turn up tons of assault and harrassment tales about Twilight fans online. It's like this is some kind of rabid fanbase, and saying anything bad about Edward Cullen is pretty much the same as portraying Muhammad in an unpleasant light. You end up getting hurt. Physically.

I...oh god. That's just sick. Twilight fans just crossed the Moral Event Horizon, as far as I'm concerned. Whining about how much of an emo prick you are and generally irritating the public is one thing, but when you resort to killing and mutilating an innocent animal to prove how much of one you are, you need [tornado fang]ing help.

Groups in general aren't normally this obcessive. Twilight has what is probably the biggest number of mockeries of its own story that any fiction work has ever had in such a short amount of time. I went to my bookstore the other day, a PORTUGUESE bookstore, and in its very, very limited english book section, there were THREE Twilight parodies. If this happens in a simple small bookshop, I don't want to know how much mockery there is for Twilight all around, because it must number in the hundreds. And somehow, fans are EXTREMELY protective of the story and its characters. The characters are glorified in a way we haven't seen since the advent of yaoi japanese culture. And even that didn't have the rampant merchandising this culture seems to have.

I am friggin' tired of the Cloud X Sephiroth pairings people do. It exists because Nomura likes it. Advent Children made Cloud's future as an even bigger emo [Bumpity-Boom!], only caring about anything when it's too late, and without a girlfriend. AGAIN. Sephiroth's dialogue had so much innuendo in it I can't believe it was even accepted. And remember Kingdom Hearts 2? That Sora/Riku and Axel/Roxas slash was so damn certified it made me sick. And it fed the Cloud/Sephiroth fanboys with the typical "YOU ARE MY TRUE HALF" bullshit.

Slash only happens because creators let it happen. Nomura is one of those creators.

Pfft..everyone knows Hamlet would win :P...

That's debatable. He seems to be doing fairly well against Laertes in their final duel, and Gertrude seems fairly certain he would win, but the match is cut short once Hamlet realises it's a plot to kill him. Hamlet had already landed a couple of hits on Laertes, but Laertes - who's made out to be a wonderful fencer himself - strikes him before the match abruptly ends. Both end up dieing (you should know this already) from the poison in the blades, leaving the potential results of their duel up for speculation.

In a mental duel, though, Hamlet would more than likely come up trumps.

You know, adding more, one must question the 4Kids haters. I read that some Kirby fans even tend to bash 4Kids entertainment on changing the animated series' title. But... doesn't Nintendo of America do the same thing to the games? Also, Pokemon fanfreaks detest its animated series because some of the actions goes against the games, deeming them illogical. But, are some actions in the games themselves illogical?

Really, if anime weeaboos despise 4Kids Entertainment(and other dubbing companies) with a burning passion, why not form an angry mob and destroy the company(or companies)?

Any anime fandom is the worst. Fatso sweaty girls in sailor outfits glomping me at conventions pretty much says that happy or sad, that will always be the worst kind of fandom. I had this ugly [sonic slicer] stalk me for TONS of meets here in Portugal. She called me "sensei" and followed me around with her troupe. I think she was seriously deranged. The whole thing culminated with her forcing me to lend her my GAME member card so she could sell a few games and a DS to buy a PSP. I then found the stuff wasn't even hers, they belonged to this friend of hers who aparently "dissapointed her" when he started liking or disliking something in some anime, and she was selling his stuff for revenge. I think that was the only time in my life I almost hit a girl.

Well, complaining is not going to make everything better. If they truly care, shouldn't they actually do something about it?

Now, another problem. When people are making "Who Would Win?" arguements between Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, the idiots would include characters that were NOT from CN studios. Atomic Betty, I can let that slide, but Johnny Test and Total Drama Island does NOT count as CN fiction.

Nintendo suffers the same problem.  It's hard to find a good, pure tribute to the 120-year-old company when majority of it includes the likes of MegaMan, Ninja Gaiden, or basically, any game that wasn't published by Ninty.

And you care about this why?  Just because it's not politically correct doesn't mean you have to complain about it.  Besides this isn't even a big deal people do this all the time.

Sounds to me like you're saying that Nintendo should be the only ones making games for their systems...

If they did, they'd go bankrupt quite quickly. Every other time a company has tried to release hardware and make all the games themselves, they'd gone out of business.

Seriously, this isn't even a fandom problem right here. It's stupidity, but not fandom...

And another thing if what you're saying is true then you must hate Super Smash Brother's Brawl because clearly not all of the characters were created by Nintendo per se.  They were created by small companies that like to make games and need a boost from major gaming companies that's it.

Also you must hate it when people say Donkey Kong instead of Monkey Kong because that's DK's original name.

Well, complaining is not going to make everything better. If they truly care, shouldn't they actually do something about it?
And what should I do about it? Oh, I know! I should protest against the book. I mean, protesting against the freedom of speech of writing a shitty book really works, right?

There are exceptions to that general rule of "do something about it". That "if you hate it so much" is one of them.

Okay, maybe I was just going too far... again. It's just, well, if you going to talk about a specific group, shouldn't you only mention the stuff they actuall made? I wouldn't mind the other published games if it was a console tribute.

It's kinda lika anime idiots blaming 4Kids for stuff they didn't do.

I think he's talking about the idiots who like one system and automatically believe every game released on that system was created by the manufacturer, e.g. Bomberman, Mega Man, and other games that originated on Nintendo were developed by Nintendo. It's the people who say that that he hates.

I think. My brain hurts from trying to figure that out and decode it for you.

Yeah even I can't make much sense of it, and can make sense of a couple of illogical things.

That's it! That is what I mean.

This also applys to Cartoon Network. When I mean shows that come from cartoon Network, I mean original shows that were Cartoon Networks Studios(like when they were called Cartoon Cartoons) and not just what's showing on the channel.

I'll try to make more sense and be specific, next time. I just want to get something out.
