Title: Happy 1 year anniversary, Swiss Bank Account 19-871-217!
Post by: VixyNyan on September 21, 2009, 02:41:44 PM
(http://www.rockmanpm.com/i/original/wii_rockman9.jpg)

It's been a whole year since Rockman 9 / Mega Man 9 came out for Wii, PS3 and 360. It has been well-accepted by a lot of fans and new gamers. The classic series has been pretty quiet on releasing a new sequel since the 8th game, and when media all over the world got a hold of the leaked info and ratings showing up, everyone cheered and jumped with joy. It's fun to see how the game came to exist and Protodude put up a nice little article about how it all happened. (http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2008/09/shadow-retrospective.html)

When the game was finally out, it became an instant favorite, specially around the time our annual awards ceremony started. (http://www.rockmanpm.com/?p=rpmawards2008) It was voted "Best Game of 2008" and got very high ratings on other categories too, along with the 2nd and 3rd game in the classic series. A little snip from the winning award commentary went like this:

"(...) Returning to the roots of the 8-bitiness, Capcom might have something great going on here. This game ended up meeting every Mega Man fan's expectations. The 8 new robot masters (this includes Splash Woman, a female robot master), the very fun and inspiring intro cutscene, the very useful weapons, the challenges list that gave lots of replay value, and different kinds of DLC content (Endless Attack and Proto Man Mode being some of the favorites)."

"Yea, this game had it all and it keeps the player wanting to play the game more and more without so much stopping. When the game gets tough and challenging, you just go back in and try and try again until you manage to beat it. It's so addictive and very satisfying when you finally beat that tough segment of the game. The music is also a great asset to this game. Here you can enjoy songs like "We're the Robots", "Maze of Death", "Flash in the Dark" and roughly 30 other tracks that have all been composed by the Inti Creates sound team, along with the development of the game itself. There's a favorite song for everyone here. (...)"

"(...) There's no question about it though, thanks to Keiji Inafune, Game of the Year is Mega Man 9! Recreating childhood memories might be the most craziest idea that Inafking, Capcom and Inti has ever thought about bringing to a gaming market of this graphics-hungry generation. And you know what? They kick all kinds of behinds for it!"

So what is RPM gonna do to celebrate this? We have a few things planned, but it would be great if you celebrate this anniversary in your own unique and creative way too. ^^

First off, this week will be a Rockman 9 week, with a skin change for our site.

Why is it a week? At this very week, the game will be one year old on all 3 regions of the world.

flagus September 22
flagjp September 24
flageu September 26

As you can see, this whole week will be our way to celebrate the game's anniversary for a whole week.

To spice things up, everyday at 18:00 Europe (http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/eu/cest.html) / 12:00 New York (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=179) time (or a little bit after that), I will personally live-stream as many of Rock's games as I can this week in my gaming channel, in a Rockman marathon (http://www.justin.tv/vixyrpm/old), just for this great occasion. This might include some of the spin-off games too, and other series, like X, Zero and DASH/Legends series. Keep track of the time and I'll see you there in a few.

We appreciate it either way, and we hope that Capcom and Inti Creates will accept our love too. ^^

Fight, For Everlasting Peace! Now we can talk about Rockman 9 in general and our experience with the game. ^^

And now, Capcom will announce MM10, MMX9, MMZ3, MML3 and MMSF4 at TGS.

I think I'll go some MM9, because that game is awesome.

How fast the time has passed. It just showed me how mortal we all are in the end. We have really short lifespans, but this is not the topic. Let us celebrate the 1st Rockman 9 Anniversary of our beloved Blue Bomber and his neverending efforts for everlasting peace.

Prost! It will be a night to remember.

A...a year?!

Where is my time going?

And for those feeling the same way I am, now, imagine how little prep time one year is for videogame devs that churn out games annually...

"A bad game is bad forever..."
Someone remind me the 'who' and the rest of that dev quote...

Thankfully, Mega Man 9 rocks!

A whole year without that ominous 'secret' being lifted!

If it actually exists.

"A delayed game can still turn good, but a bad game is bad forever."

Shiggy quotes are awesome. XD

Meanwhile, I'm disappointed as it seems that I won't get a chance to view any of these live streams this week. I'll be sure to shout out here and there though as often as I can given my situation. 8)

I have a few games suggested to me, and a few I want to play myself.
- Rockman World 1-5 (Game Boy games)
- Rockman: Battle & Chase
- Rockman Zero 1-4
- Rockman EXE Transmission
- Ryusei no Rockman: Denpa Henkan On Air

If you have more suggestions, send them here and I "might" play them the rest of the week. ^^

Playable Blues rocks a great many socks.  However, I am a little cheezed off that you can't slide in the game without nerfing your defenses to the point of losing half your health in two hits.

Ah well, Blues is always awesome, no matter how fragile.

Get equipped with:
-Down + Jump (ground)
-Jump, Jump again (air, with proper momentum, unlike the PS1)

Select on a GB/C best serves as character switch (or X weapon switch if you honestly prefer for some reason).

Sure I do, I've played it.

PB's missing out on 9,001 deaths, lack of an L Dash, a quick foreshadowing of X4, and that game's Ultimate Buster.

The only other thing missing is Berkana's Birthday Armor, and he can find that on that Internet thing that's all the rage.

...how in the hell did you ever clear any X-series game?  Xtreme2 is among the easiest of the series.  X4 is about the only one I can think of that comes close.

Because I lack patience. I just want to get through the stinkin' level and not have to wait on an obnoxiously long trap.

Speaking of which, that's why MM2, MM3, and select MM9 bosses give me a hard time.

And X4 IS the easiest X game. Even I can do an unarmored run of that.
...heh, funny that X didn't since he has the Fourth Armor in X5...

And I'll say it again!  I hate Xtreme's controls.  They. Suck. BALLS.  It's downgrading from SNES controls.  If anything, I must thank Vixy for playing the Xtreme games, to remind me how much I disliked the control scheme.  Plus, from what I saw of Xtreme 2, with the ability to switch from X to Zero on the fly, the only, repeat, ONLY challenge that game offers is not dying from the god awful control scheme.

The only way I'm ever playing this game is if they release a DS MegaMan Mania collection with these 2 games included, and I can properly assign a dash button.

Explain how assigning Classic-series slide commands to dash constitutes a "god awful control scheme".  Damn better job than MM&B did of coping with button loss.

The game still controls better than PS1.

LoL, I'm not that fond of MM&B either.

Haha, and what are you talking about?  X4 & X5 had a Dash Button.  I'd say X6 too, but I still haven't played it yet!

And again, it's a downgrade of X series control scheme.  I hated double tapping dashing, and I hated "Classic MM Sliding" on walls to dash off of them.  Double tap dashing is for Turtles In Time, not X.

Because you can get extra jump out of a dash, but not a slide.

When you have proper air-dash momentum, which Xtreme2 does but the PS1 lacks, that is not a problem.

X4 & X5 had a Dash Button.
They did not have default walking and dashing saber attacks.  Or proper air-dash momentum.  And it took us until ZX before we ever saw all three of those in the same title again.

You're preaching to the choir on that one.  Never once did I, or will I ever, defend a double-tap dash.  The mention of MM&B was not a compliment to it.  It was an example of how not to handle a button loss, whereas Xtreme2 handled it excellently.

But, they did have a Dash Button.  This is my point.  The stuff you mentioned never bothered me in the slightest.  Not having a dash button did.  "Classic MM Sliding" obviously didn't bother you, but I didn't like it at all.  If they re-released the game as a DSi download or in a MM Mania Collection (Again Capcom, PLEASE MAKE THIS), I'd happily play Xtreme 2.  Not Xtreme 1, as I'd simply go and play X1 & X2 again for the exact same level designs.

I have to agree with Shell that Xtreme's controls are not that bad, but I'm someone that used to beat all 3 modes of Xtreme1 in one sitting frequently years ago and that only played 2 in an emu so pressing d+A is quite comfortable there.

Plus, from what I saw of Xtreme 2, with the ability to switch from X to Zero on the fly, the only, repeat, ONLY challenge that game offers is not dying from the god awful control scheme.

Except that you can only do that after beating the game twice to unlock Extreme Mode or during the final levels =P

LoL, being that I'm not even willing to beat that game once, that's not going to happen!  XD

You fools truly do not know what you're missing.

Sure I do, I've played it.

Moreover, I own Xtreme2 and have beaten it a few times already. Down+jump is fine and all for dashing, but you can't dash jump after that.

And when I played Xtreme1, which was a long time ago, I had no idea you could dash with down+jump.

There sure was, because I distinctly remember kicking tail as Bass, and I could not have done that without an L-Dash.

What Sato said!

No, you can also buy Extreme Mode for a few thousand Soul Gene Whatevers.

Down+jump is fine and all for dashing, but you can't dash jump after that.
It would work if X automatically dashed for the full distance like Original Megger, but no, he has to stand up whenever you let go of the button, yeah?

The lack of L-dash is missed in Xtreme2 but it's nowhere near as big a problem as it was in Xtreme1 since you're going to be airdashing everywhere anyway, because airdashing looks so cool in 2 for some reason I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's the small sprites looking really solid.

And, again, proper momentum.  That's why one playing Xtreme2 generally doesn't give a damn about dash-jumping.  In Xtreme1 it's a more valid complaint because there's no alternate.  Xtreme2, that's not the case.

Get equipped with:
-Localization history.

I didn't say R&F, I said MM&B.  MM&B exists on only the GBA.

I never said you should.  But if you're going to respond to somebody's post, you need to acknowledge their context.  I was speaking of button loss, and on R&F for Super Famicom, there IS no button loss.  You're going from SFC to SFC, or in other words, you went nowhere.
