X / Re: Why does everyone hate Mega Man X6?
« on: February 20, 2012, 08:45:46 AM »
If there's one single thing I love above all else in X6, it's that victory was damn well satisfying.  There's a tremendous difference between how powerful you are at the start and how powerful you can potentially become, far more so than in the other games, and it nicely compliments the unusually high challenge, making you feel that you have overcome great obstacles and relish in how badass you are compared to a couple of hours ago.  I certainly cannot say the same thing for a game that ends with half of Zero's body vaporizing when he wasn't even on screen to begin with.

Technically the game ends after you've narrowly wrecked Sigma's [parasitic bomb], which by his second form is no small feet.

I never really got that with X6. Probably because I wasn't having that much fun. High Max was a challenge, but his role was pretty much a blatant ripoff of Vile's role in X1, only with less impact and relevance to the story. Gate was a dandy. Nightmare Sigma is Sigma's coolest looking second form, but also goes major cheapo at the end with the undodgeable energy balls. Reminds me of those cheap purple squares from Gamma Sigma in X5. God I [tornado fang]ing hated those things.

How in the blue blazing [tornado fang] is the Shadow Armor better than the Gaea Armor?

Can't do that [parasitic bomb] with the Shadow Armor!

Zero / Re: What if Mega Man X was the bad guy?
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:24:20 PM »
I might feel better about X as the first villain in Zero if the Mega Man X series belonged more to X than Zero, and employed better story writing and character development with regard to X and Sigma, but also Zero. Something to make X an inspiring, effective character rather than one who's just doomed to be a villain in the next series, his own being a mere stepping stone to the next one. As it is, the story is no more deep than X vs Zero vs Sigma. Great action game, but there's not much there in the way of a stirring plot that can appropriately build up to a WTF role reversal in the bleaker Zero series.

Two, Saying that is it would be too tragic for X, reeks of blind fanboyism. Nothing is too tragic for a character. Unless your character is from a fluffy and puffy world where everything always works out thanks to the magic of friendship.
But I think Rockman X/Zero world was supposed to be this kinda dark post-apocalyptic world where [parasitic bomb] gets [tornado fang]'d up for people more than often.
Oh but what do I know?

Because Zero wasn't favored enough by Inafune over X. He should also be the villain in the sequel series to X.

Still, it would've made for a good story if X became the Sigma of the Zero series, with some kind of redemption at the end of the first game. It would just [acid burst] me off if that would've been the last we'd ever hear of him. Aside from his clone troopers.

Zero / Re: What if Mega Man X was the bad guy?

On the one hand, I love that X's 100 years of fighting and trying to build a better world didn't go to waste because X made mistakes he knew were wrong. You'd think after a century you'd learn something about conflict resolution and societal integrity/people's rights, even if you did stop caring. It's hard to shake your own conscience when you've got something to fight for. Like two races of sentient beings/the world.

On the other hand, I DO agree that having the real X as a fallen hero, and not necessarily a typical "BAD GUY" like Sigma, would've made a good tragedy. I just think it would've been too tragic, and almost a petty mistake on Inafune's part that makes him look all butthurt that X was the hero of the X series and not Zero. 'Specially since, y'know, showing his boss "X" as the main character with Zero as the cooler sidekick was his idea in the first place.

Psychics? Pffffft. Why use that when you've got high technology?

First time I've heard of these "Ten Shining Arms". Interesting. But I came into this thread thinking of gameplay concepts rather than story concepts.

The Zero series introduced a small handful of swappable weapons with unique functions, such as the omnidirectional spear and the shield, that had more individual depth than the X series' universally chargeable weapons. Also, wielding several kinds of laser-based war implements is a really cool gameplay hook and worked very well in Zero. Could you guys see X using weapons other than his buster, with or without sacrificing his AWS? I'm thinking something like setting a boss weapon on one buster and a second on the other could add some more depth to his traditional run and gun style.

As for what concepts could've been touched on more in the Zero series specifically, uh ... haven't had that much thought about it. The Zero games were pretty solid as they were. Plenty of story, plenty of content, side missions, talking to people in hub world. What didn't it have besides armor upgrades?

[parasitic bomb]. Second junk thread I made so far.

I found out this TRIAL fan film may not be as hot as it's made out to be. At least the donation drive isn't, not after reading the latest Roll's Wrapup from the 100K Strong page. "Hey, want to help Legends 3 get made someday? DONATE TO OUR COOL MOVIE BRO!"

Rockman Series / Re: How would a 3D Mega man work?
« on: January 20, 2012, 03:53:19 AM »
Legends had facial expressions and body language nailed. Even the game engines were a pretty solid bed for a 3D action game in the X series, but they have since been superseded by Lost Planet and Legends 3, so there you go.

I do like the idea of Vanquish with Mega Man characters though. That powerslide they do could work great for Mega Man's powerslide. As for an X game, I can just imagine a real tasty recreation of the factory fight in X2's intro stage in 3D, where the big robo would take a lot more hits and destroy a lot more platforms before he was through.

Off The Wall / Stop the CCA/GEO Immigrant Moneymaking Machine
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:36:24 PM »
https://www.facebook.com/events/137996089650458/

If you live near Boca Raton, Florida, this is a rally to get private banks such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and General Electric to divest their private investments in the Corrections Corporation of America and GEO Group: two private prison businesses that make money off of incarcerating non-criminal illegal immigrants. They've successfully lobbied the government to pass policies that allow them to incarcerate over a million illegal immigrants for the past three years. In these privately-owned federal detention facilities, sexual abuse of detainees runs rampant. These are kids, young adults, and adults who have come to the US to escape the troubles of their previous countries, be educated, and make a new life for themselves. The US government should remember its roots, why it exists, and accept these people as an investment in the future development of our country. They are not to be used for profit in what could almost amount to human trafficking. This is foul crap that only persists thanks to backwards ignorant racism against them ill-eagle Mexicans what're takin' our jobs (well aware of the hypocrisy thank-you) and unscrupulous greed.

The conference being held at Boca Raton is the GAIM USA conference:

Quote
The GAIM USA conference is the largest annual gathering of the 1% in the US:  hedge funds and large institutional investment managers. Major investors in private prisons who will be participating include: Wells Fargo, Bank of America, General Electric, Vanguard, FMR/Fidelity, BlackRock, Lazard, and others.

More information here: http://ccagoaway.org/2012/01/19/jan-24-protest-big-banks-that-invest-in-private-prisons/?blogsub=confirming#blog_subscription-3

Whether you live in Florida or not, please write to your representatives in Congress and the Senate about this. Write to the US government and local newspapers even, if you can. Tell them that this is inhumane, evil, and utterly despicable.

X / Re: Theory: Dr. Light Studied Duo to Create X

Perhaps not within the events of Mega Man 10. But wasn't Roboenza manufactured by Wily, not come from space?

How was Evil Energy explained the OCW, just out of curiosity?

I think it's easier to see X's hand attack as a blatant homage to the Shining Finger, especially when considering the VA for X also did Domon and the VA for Sigma also did Master Asia. I just thought this parallel with Duo might've given it a little more depth than that. Not to mention this isn't the first time Mega Man has dealt with space-faring robots.

X / Theory: Dr. Light Studied Duo to Create X
« on: January 16, 2012, 10:20:44 PM »
Look at Duo's left hand:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eKOnavS6Mg#t=7m24sec

Now look at X's left hand:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E-86l6vdNE#t=5m07sec

Duo was made to eliminate "Evil Energy", something Wily discovered and attempted to harness for his own designs. When Mega Man came in contact with Evil Energy, it nearly killed him. If it weren't for Duo, it would have. I therefore posit that at some point, Dr. Light was either allowed to study Duo or gathered enough from him in Mega Man 8 to be able to incorporate into his design of X. This may or may not have played into X's uniquely perfect anti-virus (or anti-"Evil Energy") countermeasures. If not, it could at least have been an accessory to it. Perhaps X may have been meant to purge Evil Energy himself?

Pardon if this theory is flimsy, but I wanted to have a little fun with this.

You can vote for more than one.

I voted for Volnutt, Sigma, Black Zero, X2 Armor, and that's about it.

Rockman Series / Re: How would a 3D Mega man work?

I wouldn't say that. Most of X2's levels were just that much shorter than X1's. X3 fixed that, but then X4 went and made the levels a tad linear. Not that they were all bad or anything, just a tad more linear.

X7 is a blurry mish-mash of [parasitic bomb] to me. I remember Gungaroo's stage with the Ride Armor, Ride Boarski's bad Cheval stage, Wind Crowrang's airship, that burning battleship stage, the cyberspace stage, and really boring music.

418
Subtitles aren't working.

I'd certainly look forward to that at least. A shame it never came stateside. The cutscenes look like a lot of fun, and the gameplay is the same Legends we know and love.

For the story cutscenes taking after cliched anime, it's awfully entertaining and genuine. The faces and animation really pull it off.

Honestly, Legends gets too much of a reputation for its own good. It's with stuff like this that I sometimes think Capcom was right in throwing it down the shitter.

Hm. I guess that's fair to say, but the Legends games were what they were, and a lot of people liked them for it. You're right, though. The story's not groundbreaking or anything. It was just a pleasant videogame. I wouldn't say Capcom is right because people overestimated it, though. I'd say they were wrong for underestimating it back in the late 90s. Despite being considered a "greatest hits" on Playstation (arguably meaningless compared to close-to-million sellers though), it wasn't strongly advertised outside of Japan. Only commercials I'd ever seen for the first game are Japanese, and I'm not sure when and how often they'd have aired over there. Then there's magazine exposure and demo discs. I'm not saying the game is perfect, but I am saying it deserved more exposure and would've benefited Capcom in the long run.

Hey guys. Treleus here. Big fan of classic 2D Mega Man gaming and the fancy 3D Legends games. Not a huge fan of the handheld games, but I've had fun with them too, barring the Battle Network and Star Force series. Nothing stopping me from them, though.

Treleus' Most-Wanted List:

1. Mega Man X series reboot
2. Mega Man 11
3. Mega Man Legends 3
4. Mega Man ZX3
5. Mega Man, X, & Legends anime
6. More fighting game exposure of Classic & X characters/dedicated cross-universe Mega Man fighting game
7. Co-op gameplay in Mega Man/X games
8. Mega Man X9 made closely to or exactly in SNES sound, graphic, and physical control style (assuming a reboot's out of the question)
