Original / Fact or fiction?
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:27:00 AM »
Maybe I'm just having a brain fart here, but where was it ever officially stated that MM1 started out as a "Astro Boy" game, and then a coin-op arcade game? I've seen these two tidbits of "trivia" pop up every so often, usually w/o a source.

Looks like Capcom is getting ready to finally consider our pleas.  After years of waiting, Capcom is responding to the Mega Man Legends 3 demand through the creation of an official outlet to let our voices be heard:

Quote
"We’re working on a way for you to be able to do just such a thing (voice your opinion), and hope to have the new Unity feature available soon-ish. The bad news is that you’ll have to compete with the Powerstone 3 and RE: Outbreak psychos for attention! :D Seriously though, I know that having such a clear outlet is important, and we’re working on even more direct ways for you to let your voice be heard internally here at Capcom.” - Capcom Community Manager Seth Killian

No word when such an outlet will be available to fans, but knowing the guys over at Unity, you'll see something soon enough.

News and Announcements / Maverick Hunter X Blasts Onto PSN
« on: October 30, 2009, 02:35:53 AM »
Starting today, Maverick Hunter X is available for download off of the PlayStation Network for $19.99 USD.  The download will run you 413MB of memory, and is compatible with all versions of the PSP including the recently-released PSP Go.

Who knows, maybe if sales are sufficient enough, Capcom might go ahead and green light the much demanded sequel. Can't hurt to be a little optimistic, right?

More Megamix Heading Our Way, Cover Artworks Revealed

Looks as if a third Mega Man graphic novel is coming down the pike.  According to Amazon.com, Mega Man Megamix volume 2 is slated to ship out on May 14th, 2010 -- a mere three months between volume 1's release (Feb. 13, 2010).  Given the fact that Udon's recent MM books have seen their fair share of delays and bumps, this release date is most likely subject to change.

On a related note, LilFormers has posted the English cover art for Mega Man Megamix volume 1 and the upcoming Mega Man ZX graphic novel. Click on the link provided to check 'em out!

TvC Producer Talks Zero

Ryota Niitsuma, the producer of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, recently posted a blog entry discussing the stories behind the new characters included in the English version of the game, Zero included:

Quote
"There was an opinion from R&D that they wanted to include another character from the Mega Man series so I talked to Inafune-san. We were most careful about not letting those hardcore fans down, so we had to make something good.

"During the early stages of game design, this character was to be a character which would technically borrow some moves from other character datas, and not made from scratch, which meant that it wasn't one of the higher priorities. But, as I mentioned above, it is something we had to do right, and as I rejected many of the team's ideas, I kept on asking for something different, something that felt more like Zero - the guys said at the end: "Fine, you're asking us to make it from scratch right!?"
But then Zero turned out to be very good quality work again.

The attack moves that they implemented are taken a lot from the original series, and it is very cool character in a fighting game. Level 3 super is Dark Hold...? Good stuff guys! "

Check out Niitsume's complete post at Capcom Unity.

New OSS Box Art
Maruci.com is showing off what's apparently the final Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star box art. It's significantly different than the one we saw earlier which featured old OSS promotional artwork, but everything here seems new!

OSS Demo Screens

Game Watch is running a brief report on the Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star demo that hit Japanese Wiis earlier this week. While nothing new is stated, the report does offer a better look at the demo via a handful of screenshots.

Maverick Hunter, Powered Up Coming To PlayStation Store On Oct 29/Nov 5?

Last week, Capcom Unity posted (and removed) a blog entry announcing the release dates of several PSP UMD Legacy titles heading to the PlayStation Store, Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man Powered Up, included:

    * October 15: Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
    * October 22: Capcom Puzzle World
    * October 29: Maverick Hunter X
    * November 5: Megaman Powered Up

Joystiq, seeking to confirm the legitimacy of these release dates, spoke with Capcom's Chris Kramer:

"titles are correct and the dates should be fairly accurate." He added, "it's "hard to pin down digital release dates almost until they happen."

Sounds reasonable to me.  So, what about pricing? No word on that just yet, but if previous Capcom UMD Legacy titles are any indication, a $19.99 price point is likely.

Bonus Sports Cup With Purchase of OSS

Those who pre-order Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star through E-Capcom will receive a limited edition sports drinking cup.  Oh, and this isn't your run-of-the-mill cup either: the image of the two Rockmen on the side of the cup changes to a blue color when cold contents are poured in.

Otaku Offers DASH 2 Art Book, Soundtrack

Online shop Otaku.com is currently accepting orders for the Rockman DASH 2 "Capcom special selection" art book for $29.95. The 32-page booklet is chock-full of official and conceptual artwork, some of which contain unseen character designs.

What of the soundtrack? Well, in a rather peculiar move, Otaku has decided not to bundle the "free" 17 track soundtrack with the book; instead, it's being offered separately for $29.95.

'Mega Man: Complete History' Book Canceled

Remember Mega Man: Complete History? The book that showed up on Barnes and Noble not too long ago? Well, according to the publisher Chronicle Books, it's been canceled.

Quote
"Unfortunately this book will not be published, but we are coming out with a Street Fighter book. I let the person who worked on this book know and she is going to make sure that the information gets taken off the website. Thank you for your concern."

That's a real shame. However, we still have a lot of books to look forward too, particularly the soon to be released Mega Man Official Complete Works!

Rockman DASH 2 Art/Soundtrack Pack Announced

At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom will be offering a Rockman DASH 2 "special selection pack" containing a thirty-two page artbook and a mini soundtrack featuring seventeen select songs.

Operate Shooting Star Playable At TGS

Capcom Japan reports that Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show (Sept 24th). The demo will be featured at the kid's corner on the 26th and 27th, and those who give it a whirl will get free stickers! Additionally, Capcom will host a special stage event where new OSS info will be presented.

To keep us busy till TGS, Capcom has opened up TGS Theatre where you can see a couple movies related to OSS. No gameplay unfortunately, but one of the videos offers a small sample of the game's remixed title screen theme song. A gameplay video is expected to show up sooner or later.

'Rockman Stadium' Goes Off The Air

The little known Japanese television program, Rockman Stadium, just aired their final episode last week, marking the end of a year long Shooting Star Rockman 3 promotion.

The three minute series aired on Kids Station in between commercial breaks of Ryuusei no Rockman reruns since the fall of 2008. Hosted by rising Japanese star, Kawabata Hitoshi, the program offered SSR3 tips and tricks and news concerning upcoming SSR3 related events.

No word if the show will resume in order to coincide the impending Operate Shooting Star promo campaign.

'Rockman Gigamix' Coming Soon

Hitoshi Ariga is gearing up to release a brand new comic anthology by the name of 'Rockman Gigamix.' According to his latest blog post, the book will release on September 30th, 2009 for a "bargain price." Included in his post is a mock-up of the front cover (pictured)

Japanese online store Fukkan has a pre-order page for Gigamix that describes the book as a compilation of Ariga's works from Comic Bom Bom and numerous Kodansha publications. There's even a small hint that the book might contain unreleased comics.

More Gigamix updates are expected to appear on Ariga's official blog.

Additionally, Gpara has posted a few (old) screenshots for the game and two pieces of high quality artwork.

The official Operate Shooting Star website saw a very minor update the other today in the form of a wallpaper download:

Three sizes are available over at the "Brain area" here.

'Megatainment' Released

It's time once again to rock out to The Megas. The Mega Man based cover band recently released their latest album, Megatainment, as part of a collaboration with Entertainment System. The soundtrack, featuring four all new Mega Man 1 inspired songs, is up for grabs on their online store for $5. Hard copies of the album, however, cost an extra $3 in shipping.

Wanna listen before you buy? Head on over to the band's official Facebook profile for a few sample tracks.

Megamix Price Cut

Udon Entertainment's Mega Man Megamix manga isn't even out yet and we already have ourselves a price drop. Amazon has slashed the original 12.95 price tag down to $10.36.

Not a bad deal at all, very reasonable if you ask me. Mega Man Megamix Volume 1 is slated to ship on February 13th, 2010.

Rockman 1 Complete Works On JPN PlayStation Network

Rockman 1 is now available for download at the Japanese PlayStation Store. The game will run you a mere $6. Fortunately, there is no region restriction for PlayStation Store, meaning you can purchase the game even though you don't live in Japan. All you need is a Japanese PSN account and a JPN PlayStation Network card to redeem Yen. More on that here.

If Inafune Wants a New MML, He Probably Wouldn't Be Denied

In a thread over at Capcom Unity, Christian "Sven" Svensson responded to a fan's inquiry regarding the potential of a new Mega Man Legends title and if Keiji Inafune is still adamant on producing a sequel. Sven's response:

Quote
“I can’t really speak on behalf of Inafune, but I do know that MM is near and dear to his heart. And if Inafune wants something badly enough, he is rarely denied in our greenlight/CS management meetings.”

Sounds a bit like a hint if you ask me. You never know what Capcom could be cooking.

Zero Manga Too?

Udon Entertainment is showing off some major love for Mega Man recently. With plans to release the Complete Works art books and Megamix and ZX series manga in the US, these guys are really shaping up to be fans' new best friends. Can it get any better? If you're a fan of Hideto Kajima's Rockman Zero manga, then yes, it can.

The September issue of Nintendo Power brings word that Udon might be planning on publishing the Mega Man Zero manga in North America:

Quote
"Udon is also planning to bring Mega Man manga to North America, focusing on the original Mega Man series and Mega Man Zero, though release dates haven't been determined." (p.11)

I'm a little iffy on this due to the fact that the blurb didn't mention Udon's ZX manga plans. Is it possible NP meant to say ZX manga instead of Zero?

News and Announcements / Operate Shooting Star Revealed
« on: August 07, 2009, 06:31:16 PM »
The September Coro Coro has arrived and with it comes our first look at Operate Shooting Star:

Not much is known at the moment, but what we can gather is that SS Rockman is playable within the EXE universe. Other characters such as Harp Note, appear as well.

Other tidbits:
- SSRockman and Rockman EXE are playable.
- Clock Man (aka Clock Genius) is a Navi from the future. Interacts with characters from the EXE universe.
- Additionally, Clock Man gets his own area.
- Graphically, the game uses the sprites from EXE 1.
- There is a map for the Internet on the bottom screen
- No word on how the battles will play out. Next issue of Coro Coro might touch on this.

More info as it develops. Many thanks to TMMN for helping gather the info. This was a collaborative effort between Heat Man and myself :)

"Mega Man: Complete History" Coming Soon

It appears another new Mega Man book is coming down the pike. Barnes & Noble have begun taking pre-orders for "Mega Man: Complete History", set to ship on October 1st, 2009. The book, announced in the summer of 2007 alongside a Street Fighter counterpart, is said to include in-depth information on the franchise's history:

Quote
"From napkin-scrawled idea to production to million-selling success, both series’ histories will be told in extreme detail in original text and interviews with the developers, animators, and other industry folks. We’re going to pack in tons of art, too–early concept stuff as well as memorable character sprites. My favorite part may be the package itself, though–these are going to be paperbacks, but they’ll come in a partial slipcase that looks like an original Nintendo cartridge sleeve. "

f note, this has nothing to do with R20.  R20 is being split into two volumes by Udon Entertainment: Mega Man Official Complete Works on Oct. 14, Mega Man X Official Complete Works on Dec. 14th.

Three To Four New Characters In Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Eagerly awaiting the unveiling of new Tatsunoko vs. Capcom characters? Well here's a little something to wet your appetite. In an interview with Siliconera, Ryota Niitsuma, producer of TVC, discussed his intentions of adding at least three to four (maybe more) new playable characters for the North American version:

Quote
S: What can you tell us about these new characters? Are they going to be split evenly between the Tatsunoko and Capcom sides?
RN: In the end we want to have a good balance between the Tatsunoko side and the Capcom side, a split down the middle with characters on both sides. We’re still working on which characters to add and ones to put in so I can’t give you any specifics on that.

RN: Right now I’m looking at around three to four, maybe more. Nothing has been finalized yet. We will be making an announcement very soon about how many characters and who they are.

Hopefully, we'll get an announcement or two sooner than later.! Check out the full Ryota Niitsuma here for more NA version details!

Mega Man Legends Not Ready For PSN

Those hoping to see either Mega Man Legends 1 or 2 on PlayStation Network might be in for a bit of a wait. According to Capcom's Chrisitan Svennson, there are a few licensing hurdles to overcome:

Quote
"I know that people want them and I'm working with Japan to see what we can do about that. But they're not on the docket right now as they need to be recleared for rights issues (voice actors, musical score, middleware, any IP infractions, etc.) before we could contemplate putting them up. As it stands today, they are not "cleared" by the IP dept for future use."

Hopefully, things will get sorted out sooner than later.

Irregular Hunter+Rockman Rockman Value Pack Revealed

Capcom plans on releasing a bundle pack of Irregular Hunter X and Rockman Rockman on September 17th for $29.90

According to e-Capcom, the bonus soundtrack is a limited time only deal, you know, a "available while supplies last" sort of thing. In any case, those fortunate enough to get a hold of the soundtrack will be treated to 30 tracks of IHX and RR music complete with bonus artwork.

Unfortunately, it is unknown at this time if the soundtrack will be available through import outlets such as Play-Asia.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 PS3 In August

According to Capcom's official Twitter, the PS3 version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will arrive on August 13th for $15, a mere two weeks after the XBLA version.

As it turns out, the August 13th release date also falls upon the rumored PS3 Retail Pack version. Unfortunately, the pack doesn't come with a copy of the game, but it will contain a redemption code, a free one month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, 2000 Capcom Unity Points and a disc containing exclusive wallpapers.

The pack will run you $20, $5 more than the cost of the actual game.

Coro Coro Report: Operate Shooting Star Is Likely A Remake

This month's issue of Coro Coro Comics came with a tiny teaser for next issue's coverage on Operate Shooting Star:

According to the teaser , the "legendary EXE 1 will be appearing on the DS this winter as a fusion of cards and action RPG." Make of that what you will.

Right about now, it's starting to seem a lot more likely than it seems not likely that OSS is a remake. Again, more details on OSS are expected to coincide with next month's Coro Coro. Stay tuned.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 XBLA Release Date Announced

According to Major Nelson, the Xbox Live Arcade version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will debut on July 29th as part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion for 1200 MS Points ($15). Capcom's official Twitter confirmed this report.

As for the PlayStation Network version, a release date will be announced "soon." Hang tight!

Mega Man Fan Film Q&A

Eddie Lebron, director of the upcoming live action Mega Man fan film, sat down to answer a handful of user submitted. A small sample of the topics below:

Quote
Q1.) My question is, will Rush be in the movie or Items 1-3 from MM2 or something like that?

A1.) Rush will not be in the film. His presence was saved for the possible sequel. Those items are also being saved for the future!

Q1.) I want to ask when you say all the bosses will copy cat mega man and the yellow devil(big yellow thing) be in the film as well? Just to ask.?

A1.) I once said every boss of the first game will be in the film so… you be the judge of that answer =).

Q10.) . Will Proto Man’s whistle theme be included in the film.Proto Man is obviously in the movie, and it simply won’t be the same without the whistle. And also, where will the whistle be placed? Will you use it as music that lays over the ending of the film and carries over into the credits as a BGM?
A10.) The whistle shall be. Where it will be placed is a surprise!

White Cards Fixed

The downloadable White Cards over at the official Mega Man website have been re-uploaded to accommodate all new input instructions. Now, each card comes with a short sequence to indicate the proper dot pressing order. When activated, these cards grant players an arsenal of battle cards to use at their disposal.

Many thanks to Seth and the tech guys for a speedie fix!

Whole variety of news this past week, let's have a look-see:

No Plans For A New Mega Man Legends...For Now

GamingUnion has an interview with Capcom's Seth Killian up for reading, talking a little about the likelihood of a new Mega Man Legends among other things. His words make me very hopeful:

Quote
GU: Is Capcom planning anything new with the Mega Man Legends series such as a 3rd installment or us getting the PSP ports of the 1st two games from Japan?

Seth: After Marvel vs Capcom 2, MM Legends is probably one of our most fan-requested games. MM creator Keiji Inafune is certainly aware of the fans' request—his office is basically a shrine to the stuff he’s gotten from fans over the years. There are no plans right now, but Mega Man 9 came totally out of left-field, so you never know with that guy. If he gets inspired, and things can happen very quickly.

Well now, that gets me feeling a little hopeful...

Content "Removed" From Star Force 3

Surprised? Mega Man Star Force 3 continues the long tradition of removing content without any explanation. A preliminary list of everything cut below:

- Noise Kaizou Gear (SF3's equivalent to Wave Command Cards.)
- Rezon cards
- Secret Satellite Server (
- Majority of the Meteor Server Access

Strangely, most of these features can be brought back via hacking, leading some to believe that they weren't removed per se, rather, "locked." If that is the case, then said features might become "unlocked" through downloadable activation keys.

Maverick Hunter, Powered Up Coming To PlayStation Network

According to the official PlayStation blog, a boatload of Capcom PS1 and PSP titles will gradually make their way onto PSN, the first of which (Capcom Classics Collection Remixed) arrives tomorrow.

Among the lot, Mega Man Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X are scheduled to appear as "UMD Legacy" titles. No specific release date for either game have been set. Hope to see them sooner than later.

For the full details and game list, check out Ryan's post here.

Horinouchi Teases Future Mega Man Projects

A little something something that was overlooked in GameTrailer's interview with Takeshi Horinouchi, the current Mega Man series producer:

Quote
GT: ANY SECRETS OR PREVIEWS YOU CAN SHARE ABOUT WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THE MEGA MAN SERIES IN THE FUTURE?

TK: We are already moving ahead with several new plans not limited to a specific target or hardware, and are working hard to be able to tell you more about it. Please stay tuned!

If you're disappointed in Operate Shooting Star, keep your fingers crossed and hope that for something more to your liking will pop up in the near future.

Little format change this week; renaming Protodude's Ramblings to "News Round Up", the former was getting a bit repetitive. ;)

News stories from June 6th - June 13th:

Mega Man Dominates Robot Hall Of Fame

Mega Man now ranks number one in Carnegie Mellon's Robot Hall of Fame Inductee Poll. The Blue Bomber trumps the competition with a 35% , just barely overtaking Futurama's Bender who now places at number two with a 31%.

To ensure Rock's dominance, keep on voting every now and then.

Star Force 3 E3 Trailer Hits Nintendo Channel

he E3 2009 trailer for Mega Man Star Force 3 is now available for viewing through the North American Nintendo Channel, a specialty video service on Wii.

Hopefully, this is an indication of a forthcoming downloadable demo hosted on the Nintendo Channel for use on Nintendo DS systems.

Mega Man 9 Remix Project Updates

A couple of updates coming from the Mega Man 9 Remix Project:

A majority of the tracks are looking to be "finalized" by early September. If all goes according to plan, the project in its entirety will release a short while later. Worst case scenario however, it could be delayed till December.

On the superficial side of things, the artwork for the project is shaping up quite nicely; a few more teaser images were added to the gallery section. Very, very cool.

Finally, the mixer section received a small update. The track list now includes a "skipped tracks" category, tunes that won't make it into the final album due to length. They are as follows:

07: Game Start
17: Stage Clear
18: Get A Weapon
22: Dr. Wily UFO
23: Dr. Wily Castle
33: Game Over

Not too big of a loss if you ask me.

E3 has come and gone, leaving us a slew of itsy bitsy news stories.

Voice Work Possibly Cut From Star Force 3

E3 attendee, Kim101, had the opportunity to speak with a Capcom representative regarding Star Force 3's upcoming North American release. Apparently, the small snippets of Japanese voice work from the title have yet to be removed, but there is a strong possibility it won't make it into the finalized english version. Gee, I'm so surprised.

"DSi Mega Man 1GB Kit"?

GameStop is listing a strange item by the name of "DSi Mega Man 1GB Kit." Details are very scarce; the page classifies the item as a "memory card" produced by Interworks Unlimited. Mega Man branded SD card perhaps? Well, whatever it is, it's scheduled to release June 16th, 2009 for $19.99.

Mega Man Rush Marine iPhone Bound?

Mega Man Rush Marine is coming down the pike, a brand new side scrolling shooter for mobile platforms. Which mobile platform? Unfortunately, Capcom's fact sheet didn't specify, but if the the screenshots are any indication, Rush Marine might be headed to Apple's iPhone.

According to 1Ups Jeremy Parish, the screenshots for the title run 480 x 320 in size, the precise resolution of an iPhone/iPod touch screen.

Quote
"I couldn't help but notice that the resolution on these Mega Man: Rush Marine screens I found over at Siliconera just happen to be sized at 480x320. By a funny coincidence, that's the exact resolution of the iPhone's screen."

"In case you didn't know, the iPhone has some pretty solid shooters available for it. Rush Marine seems like a perfect fit, don't you think? Its retro-favored graphics (taken largely, though not entirely, from Mega Man 3) would be super-crisp on the iPhone's screen. Plus, unlike all your crazy Japan-only superphones, the iPhone is available to just about everyone in the world... and for those who can't own one, there's always the iPod Touch."

An iPhone release sounds likely, but bear in mind that the screenshots for RM are conceptual images according to Capcom's press room; it might not reflect the final product.

Mega Man Legends 3 PS3 (VGReleases)
Mega Man Legends 3 X360 (N4G)
Mega Man Legends 3 PS3 (N4G)

News and Announcements / Protodude's Ramblings: Gearing Up for E3
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:05:02 AM »
In preparation for E3 2009 (June 2nd-the 4th), Capcom is touting a super secret mystery title that will make its grand debut at the show. Is it related to the Blue Bomber? Feel free to speculate on the following clues left by Capcom's Twitter:

- It is a new entry in an existing franchise (IP), not a remake.
- The game is, quote, "a title fans have been waiting for"
- It is an action game
- developed by Capcom
- the franchise this game belongs to has "never appeared on this hardware." ("this hardware" seems to imply a console exclusive)

I'm praying for a DASH 3, but the latter tidbit blows that hope completely as the RM franchise has appeared on every current gen console thus far. We'll know for sure on Tuesday morning, June 2nd.

Funimation Gets Ruby Spears, Upon a Star Cartoons?

According to a fellow tipster, a Funimation Entertainment rep at Anime Boston announced the company acquired the rights to re-distribute the Mega Man RS cartoon and the Upon a Star OVA. Both shows were previously licensed to ADV Films.

Through Funi, the titles will receive the online streaming treatment as well as new DVD releases in late 2010.

Apparently, Funimation acquired the rights to several ADV properties over the last year, a possible indication that the company is planning on an eventual buy-out of ADV as a whole. The addition of the RS cartoon and the Upon a Star series further fuels that possibility.

Funi has yet to announce such plans via press release.

Leading the news stories this week is Mega Man's nomination for induction in the Carnegie Mellon University Robot Hall of Fame, an exhibit celebrating all things robotics.

The Blue Bomber's rankings have changed drastically over the past few days, starting at a measly 2% of the vote then jumping all the way up to #2 with 15%, just behind the leader, Bender bending Rodriguez (of Futurama fame).

You can add your vote to the tally here. Can we get him all the way to number one?

Mega Man "J.U.V.Is" Coming In Late June

A Jazwares representative informs me that the Mega Man Urban Vinyl line, now referred to as "J.U.VIs" ( Jazwares Urban VInyl), will hit store shelves in late June. The initial run will consist of Mega Man, Proto Man, and Elec Man figures, more to come if sales meet expectations.

Out of blatant curiosity, which classic series character would you like to see get the J.U.VI treatment next?

Rockman X2 Re-released Onto Japanese Mobile Phones

Gpara is reporting that the mobile phone version of Rockman X2 saw yet another re-release in Japan, this time for SoftBank and EZ Web services.

Based on the screenshots, the title looks largely unchanged from its home console counterpart other than the expected reduction in aspect ratio. If you so happen to have the means of obtaining the game, you can do so for a measly 315 Yen (plus tax).

Mega Man X Official Complete Works For Preorder On Amazon

Amazon have begun taking preorders for the Mega Man X Official Complete Works art book, set to ship December 14th, 2009 - a mere two months after MMOCW's release (Oct. 14th).

Retailing for $39.99 ($26.57 through Amazon savings), the 144 page book will contain an array of artwork and conceptual designs from the X series:

Quote
"With a dozen games of his own, Mega Man X's popularity comes close to rivalling even the classic Mega Man series. The original blue bomber's futuristic counterpart has won over fans with his unique gameplay and dynamic designs, and now the artwork of this fan-favorite series is collected for the first time. Mega Man X: Official Complete Works features character designs, box art, promo art and many rarely seen art pieces. Zero, Sigma, Axl, and all of X's unique robotic animal bosses are packed into this gorgeous collection. A must have for all Mega Man fans!"

Capcom Planning 28 DS Titles In Fiscal Year

I guess Capcom wasn't kidding when they said they wanted to ramp up their DS support. The company announced the other day their intentions to release a total of 28 DS games during the fiscal year (now until April 1st, 2010), hoping to accumulate in 1 million in sales.

See where I'm going with this?

Rockman already is a prominent force on the DS, so it goes without saying future DS entries are likely, possibly even Coro Coro's mystery game.

Really, though, this is the perfect opportunity for me to capitalize on the mass hysteria of Wii message board readers by presenting them a totally pixelated image of a game that we will unveil for Wii during the E3 time frame.

Here is said pixelated picture, processed through multiple filters for your viewing pleasure:

I'm not a photographic scientist or anything -- not sure the profession even exists, and if not, it should -- but at the very least, there seems to be a lot of red in that blurred-out picture. And you know what fuzzy red means, right? Yep -- teh maturez.

This is a Wii exclusive game. Developed from the ground up.

Have fun with that.

Bozon, you suck.

P.S. This blog post is made sweet by the fact that Bozon has been talking about this game without interruption since I showed him first screens. He is sick. Always bloodlusting. I think he needs help.

Source.

I have no bloody clue what this might be, though it must be something really interesting to get Bozon all hyped up; he's got great taste.

Guess who turned 44 this week?

Wishing you the best Inafune! Man, can you believe he's devoted half of his life to Capcom? (joined at the ripe age of 22) That's just unimaginable.

Onwards with this weeks stories!

Japan Really Wants X and DASH Sequels

A recent survey conducted by Famitsu asked its readers to rank which franchise sequels they're craving to see most. Surprise, surprise, sequels to Rockman X and Rockman DASH made the cut -- DASH at number 7, X at number 13:

1. Sakura Taisen (aka Sakura Wars) 267 votes
2. Shenmue 249 votes
3. Okami 204 votes
4. Gotchaforce 189 votes
5. Xenogears 185 votes
6. Breath of Fire 180 votes
7. Rockman Dash 176 votes
8. Ogre Battle 174 votes
9. Chikyuu Boueigun (aka Earth Defence Force) 162 votes
10. Kowloon's Gate 151 votes
11. Shinobido 141 votes
12. Demon's Souls 123 votes
13. Rockman X 110 votes

Whether Capcom is aware of these numbers is anybody's guess. In any case, I'm very happy to see DASH in the top ten, incredibly reassuring to know the Japanese demand is still there after all these years.

Seth Killian Teases Undiscovered Mega Man 9 Secret

While chatting with Destructoid's Johnathan Holmes, Seth Killian continued to withhold knowledge of the "undiscovered" Mega Man 9 secret, teasing us once more:
Quote
"People are looking too hard, and also not hard enough. That will sound ridiculous until someone figures out what it means, at which point it will sound profound. Actually everyone already just hates this “secret” so I’m guaranteed to be hated in any event, but there it is."

Oh we're looking hard alright, anyone who's taken a gander at the insanity going down at Capcom-Unity's forums can agree with that statement. But, we're still not looking hard enough....

At this rate, I have a feeling this little nugget of a secret will be haunting us for years to come.

Read up on the full interview here which includes a little talk of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom localization

Rumor - 'Battle Black Box' Talks of SSR4 Likelihood

Japanese Rockman blog "S.S.R" reports that the recently released Shooting Star Rockman 3 guide book, Battle Black Box, talks of the likelihood of a fourth title in the Shooting Star series.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but according to the post, an SSR3 staff interview mentions that a Shooting Star Rockman 4 is a possibility, that is to say, if the fans want it to happen. Well, do you?

Capcom Releasing A Bunch Of PS1/PSP Games On Playstation Store

Joystiq reports that Capcom plans on releasing a whopping 20 to 40 PS1/PSP titles this year on Playstation Network, a move to increase the company's presence on the service.

The best part? Capcom-Unity members will have a say in what titles they'd like to see released:
Quote
"We spoke with Capcom's Chris Kramer, who let us know that the company would be listening to what the community wants and figuring out internally what titles to release -- but don't expect any of them to involve licensing shenanigans along the lines of Marvel vs. Capcom. "We'll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title," Kramer said. "We're thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we're looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. "

Mega Man fans in particular have a lot to look forward to; besides the possibility of downloadable versions of Maverick Hunter X and Powered Up, we also have hopes of seeing the following:

Mega Man 8
Mega Man Battle & Chase (Most likely a UK only release)
Mega Man X4
Mega Man X5
Mega Man X6
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Legends 2
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne

13 Companies Stand In Our Way Of Getting 'Tatsunoko vs. Capcom'

I'm excited about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. It seems like a blast to play. Sure, I could always import it and play it on the Hombrew Channel, but I'd much rather have a true blue localization. That said, Capcom has time and time again expressed difficulties in bringing the title outside of Japan, citing a series of sticky licensing problems with Tatsunoko properties. Yesterday, in an interview with Joystiq, Seth Killian once again brought to light the problems of a TvC localzaition:

Quote
"It's a lot of 'dance with the lawyers' on that one," explained Killian. "The rights holders for Tatsunoko in Japan are one company, but in the U.S. it's ... 13 companies -- and some are very attentive and some are not."

A very sticky situation indeed. In the words of Joystiq, "if you've been holding your breath for this one, you might want to consider coming up for air."
