Gaming / Two new Capcom games to come, according to Twitter
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:33:35 AM »
Mirror'd from the DASH speculation topic, but placed here for the sake of general news.

Two new games announced tomorrow for the early birds amongst you here http://www.capcom-europe.com/blog at 7am

Coincidentally, these two announcements fall right in line with Nintendo's upcoming Fall Conference, which should be taking place within 5-8 hours from now. So, it stands to wager that whatever these games are, they are more likely Nintendo related. Could these be possibly more Capcom offerings for the 3DS? Stay tuned...

Here we go again, boys and girls! Protodude and his old accomplice are at it again~! 8D

Quote from: Protodude's Blog
Remember our enigmatic friend "The Shadow"? The self proclaimed inside source that leaked several accurate Mega Man 9 details prior to the game's official announcement? Well he's at it again and this time he brings a most interesting bit of news that's sure to please many.

Hot on the heels of all that "fans will be happy soon" teasing by former Capcom staff member Hideki Kamiya, The Shadow sends word that a Mega Man Legends sequel is indeed currently in development at Capcom. The project is "very tight lipped" at the moment and as such, he cannot reveal further details at this time. However, official news on the project is expected to surface after Capcom shifts their focus away from Mega Man Universe. No time frame was disclosed.

Further, The Shadow could not confirm if the title of the game is actually "Mega Man Legends 3" because the project has no working name at this point. Nevertheless, it is considered to be the next entry in the series.

Despite The Shadow's track record, it's best to take this with a grain of salt. "Hope for the best, expect the worst", as they say. I'll be keeping you posted on any new developments should they arise.

Update: Many are requesting a source. The source is The Shadow himself. We've been in contact via e-mail for over a year and my curiosity about the Kamiya tweets got me thinking if he knew something. I shot him a message and a few hours later, we have the above tidbit.

Just a little bit more fuel for the fire, as it were! If Capcom's viral hype man knows its real, and Kamiya knows its real, then I guess it truly is something inevitable.

Gaming / Sega continues its partnership with PlatinumGames
« on: September 19, 2010, 02:58:28 AM »
Quote from: PLAYtm
Apparently, Platinum Games will continue to work with Sega. Speaking at Tokyo Game Show, the studio's producer and executive director Atsushi Inaba said the "relationship between Sega and Platinum games does not end with Vanquish."

While no specifics were given, Platinum Games lead Hideki Kamiya has been rather vocal about a doing a sequel to Bayonetta. When fans inquired about Bayonetta 2, Kamiya coyly responded, "she'll be back if you believe so."

Once again, another demonstration of how, every blue moon, Sega DOES make the right choice. This almost entirely makes up for no VF5: FS PS360 port announcement! 8D

News and Announcements / What does Hideki Kamiya know about Rockman DASH?
« on: September 18, 2010, 06:45:20 AM »
*Dunno if this is ready for the News page yet, if so, a mod can move it*

So, per the course for many Japanese developers, Kamiya (director of the ORIGINAL Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta, among others) is also on twitter. Amid all the hoopla relating to people hitting him up about his take on the new Dante design, and teasing about a possible Bayonetta successor, he had this to say just a few mere hours ago.

Quote from: PG_kamiya
If you're Dash fan, you'll be happy soon. RT @OKeijiDragon @PG_kamiya Are you a Rockman DASH fan? I saw "ロックマンDASH" on one of your tweets

Now, it's reasonable to say that Kamiya still keeps contact with a number of people back at his "old stomping grounds" at Capcom. He's even directly stated as such in a blog post of his last year, where he and Kobayashi (DMC4 and Sengoku Basara producer) met at TGS last year. So, might we finally see this damn game some time soon...?  8D

Gaming / TGS 2010 THREAD
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:32:46 PM »
Well, it really looks like those rumors that were pointing to Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) making DMC5 are slowly, but surely, coming to a head.

Quote from: Wolf Akela on GAF
Ninja Theory bragged about a top-secret project.

GameInformer posts it as a rumor (a good number of their rumors became true).

Capcom's Facebook page says they'll announce 4 new games at TGS.

Ninja Theory just said they'll reveal a new game at TGS.

Inafune said DMC5 is going to have a "western touch".

Capcom was and is outsourcing to western devs.

DMC4 is over 2 years old.

Just put those things together. I'd be very surprised if the announcement wasn't about DMC5.

We even got what seems to be copyright information now:
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/14/dmc-trademark-hints-at-new-devil-may-cry-game/

I dunno what would possess Capcom to do such a thing like this, but unless Ninja Theory gets to have access to MT Framework (which was the same engine that DMC4 is based on)? I'm not exactly holding high hopes for this project. The mere mention of UE and sub-30 FPS will be enough to send me running for the hills! 8D

Gaming / Super Mario Collection (aka Allstars) slated to return soon
« on: September 02, 2010, 05:28:41 PM »
Details about this were leaked from a Nintendo retailer conference.

Quote
...The big news appears to be that Nintendo will be releasing "Super Mario Collection Special Pack" for Wii. This is a revival of Super Famicom's Super Mario Collection, known in the West as Super Mario All-Stars.

The "special pack" part of the name comes from the bonus item Nintendo will be including. The item, known as "Super Mario History 1985 - 2010," includes a booklet recapping 25 years of Mario history and showing previously unseen development materials, and a soundtrack CD with music spanning Super Mario Bros. through Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Super Mario Collection Special Pack is set for October 21 release at ¥2,500.

Nope. It's NOT Persona 5. Instead, for their first game on the HD Twins, the Persona team decided to make a spin-off starring The Man Who Drinks alone from P3P. His name is indeed Vincent.

Quote from: Andriasang
Game Jouhou has posted a bunch of additional details on Catherine, Atlus's new PS3 and Xbox 360 action adventure game.

As detailed below, Catherine is the first HD game from Atlus. It's being made with key members of the Persona staff. Included in the staff list are Katsura Hashino as producer and director, Shigenori Soejima as character designer, and Shouji Meguro as sound composer.

While the game's name is Catherine, the main character is actually a 32-year-old salaryman named Vincent (voiced by Koichi Yamadera). Catherine (voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro) is a stylish 22-year-old girl who apparently has the charms of a young girl.

The game begins when Vincent, a vegetarian who has no ambition in work or love (I'm not sure if he's literally a "vegetarian," or if the term "vegetarian" is some sort of metaphor for his personality) runs into the mysterious Catherine one day. At night, he has nightmares.

The nightmares serve as an action component for the game. Set in a world with an unending stairway, Vincent has to make it to the top of the stairs, or he will not be able to awaken.

Based off Game Jouhou's summary, it's a bit unclear how the game will progress. However, it does seem that even during the nightmare action parts, you'll end up working through the story and encountering events.

During a staff interview, Hashino said that as their first HD game, rather than trying out a true RPG, the team was excited about trying out something new. It looks like Catherine will be just that, as Hashino said it will be more adult oriented than past titles from the team. It's not all style, though. Hashino promised a deep play experience with plenty of gameplay for players to sink their teeth into.

Soejima said that there are some shockingly adult scenes in the game. When you play these scenes, they'll be even more stimulating, although in a difference sense.

Meguro confirmed the adult leanings of the title, saying that the keywords for the game's music are "classic," "adult oriented" and "erotic." He also promised 5.1ch sound.

Meguro also made a comment that has Persona fans excited. He said that due to Catherine, he believes for the time being the staff won't be asked about their next title. However, at some point next year, perhaps he'll be able to respond "Regarding the RPG, Hashino and I are..."

A hint at Persona 5?

News and Announcements / MEGAMAN UNIVERSE!!!!!! (PS3/360)

Quote
Today we can exclusively announce that Inafune-san is working on Mega Man Universe for the 360 & PS3.  Please find the slightly dry blurb below :-)

Mega Man Universe, the latest entry in Capcom’s long-running Mega Man™ series, will be a revolutionary take on the seminal classic, setting course for a new chapter in classic gaming.
Mega Man games are beloved by fans all over the world. Since their debut in 1987, Mega Man has remained a videogame icon, having starred in more than 140 titles over the last 22 years. The connection he’s made with pop culture at large has extended beyond games and into cartoons, toys, clothing, comics, kid’s meals, and more. Part of that popularity is driven by the series’ ability to evolve over time yet consistently retain the addictive gameplay experience that sets Mega Man games apart.

For the next chapter in this legacy of excellence, Capcom aims to deliver the most creative Mega Man experience yet. In Mega Man Universe, imagination is the star of the game.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to announce Mega Man Universe,” said Kenji Inafune, Head of Research and Development Management for Capcom Entertainment. “This game will break the mold and challenge the conventional wisdom of what a Mega Man game can be. When fans finally get to see it, I believe they’ll envision their most far-out Mega Man dreams coming true.”

Inafune is committed to helping craft a Mega Manexperience that meets the highest expectations of Capcom fans. Most recently Mega Man™ 10echoed this fact when its classic design and compelling gameplay made it one of the most sought after digital downloads of the year. Gamers can expect Mega Man Universeto bring the core experience fans want while delivering on the promise of innovation that Capcom is known for. Its official: classic gaming will never be same again.

Capcom and Udon to lift the lid off of a new Vampire/Darkstalkers game? Mega Man Universe to be showcased at last?

Comes Devil's Third for PS3 and 360.

Quote from: Kotaku interview
Famed video game designer Tomonobu Itagaki and his select group of creative warriors at Valhalla Game Studios are making a new game, Devil's Third, a hyper-violent shooter for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Valhalla Game Studios is allying with publisher THQ to bring its newest action game to consoles, an original effort that Itagaki says is designed to be more fun and accessible, place a major emphasis on shooting—along with "deep melee and fighting systems"— and boast a robust multiplayer component.

The former members of Team Ninja, responsible for the fighting game series Dead or Alive and high-speed action game Ninja Gaiden, are crafting what Itagaki describes as a "breakthrough for the shooting genre." Valhalla's goal in crafting Devil's Third, Itagaki says, is to develop a shooter with a more "direct feeling of killing" your opponents.

"In looking at real combat, close combat has a more visceral bloody feel to it. I want to get more of that close combat feel in [Devil's Third]," Itagaki told Kotaku in a recent interview, the table full of Valhalla's top staff. Itagaki himself was without his trademark shades, wearing a new silver ring in the shape of the Valhalla Game Studios logo.

"It's not taking a hack and slash game and tacking on some ranged weapon combat. We feel we have a lot to learn as we make this, but we also feel confident in our experience and the fundamental elements of head-to-head competition in [our previous] games."

- read more here

Video here.

So, what do I think? Looks quite interesting, and it's still quite early (at about 5-10%), so it could stand to look quite better. And Valhalla promises that SP will get as much attention as MP.

Gaming / New Mortal Kombat teaser...
« on: June 09, 2010, 12:41:24 AM »
Well, since WB acquired the rights, there were rumors that the next MK game could be one that serves to "re-launch" the brand. And well, it looks like they weren't kidding.  8D

*WARNING: NOT FOR SQUEAMISH* 8D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_MqZn7E-mk&feature=player_embedded

Obviously, it seems safe to presume that this will be another showcased at E3 next week. And hell, as a guy who hasn't cared for MK since UMK3, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested.
Plus Jai White and Jeri Ryan seems to point to the notion of them spending some serious loot on this!
A bit of a repost from the E3 topic.

Quote
With E3 fever picking up, we're already starting to hear some amazing leaks about new announcements. Here's another one to chew on: A reliable source has indicated that Namco and Capcom are working together on a Tekken vs Street Fighter game. Even better: It could be announced as soon as E3.

This isn't the first time that Namco and Capcom have collaborated. In the past, they worked on Namco X Capcom, which was an action RPG game released on the PS2.

It's only natural that these two powerhouse developers of the best fighting game series are finally making the ultimate fighting game. Both companies in recent years have really gone out of their way to cater to fans of this genre. Namco threw some extra Star Wars characters into Soul Calibur, and Capcom of course has been doing big crossovers for sometime now. They recently announced a new Marvel vs Capcom game in the works as well.

Funny, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were basking in the awesomeness of Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and speculating on what great VS concept Capcom should tackle next for a fighting game. Ironically enough, our wishlist was half done in jest because our heads would have exploded had any of them came true. I guess I need to prepare for my head to explode now.

We'll follow up with both companies on Monday to see if they have any comments on the game. I'm sure there are a ton of questions gamers are dying to know, with the main one being, "Will the game play more like Tekken or more like Street Fighter?"

So, what are your thoughts, RPM? The one thing that possibly gives credit to this rumor, is that it's alledged that the "Vs. Capcom" domain name was seemingly put on lock for more than just MvC3's sake. Not to mention that the Tekken producer has expressed interest in doing a collab with another party, as seen here.

Obviously, the very fact that the two game series couldn't be more different from one another might mean that we'd likely see a rebirth of the "Capcom vs. SNK" deal (where each party goes forth to try and make their own games), or a mish-mash that could be something new unto itself.

Any way, again, take with a few FRAMES of salt, until we get some thing more concrete!  8D

News and Announcements / Mega Man Online...?
« on: May 10, 2010, 10:44:33 PM »
Another game starring the Blue Bomber has been id'd, thanks to a new Investor Report Capcom put out recently.

Quote
...Other goals mentioned in the briefing included expanded online development. Capcom aims to sell additional download content for major titles like Super Street Fighter IV and Lost Planet 2. It hopes to increase digital distribution of software. It also looks like we'll be getting a Mega Man Online game, jointly developed by Korea's Neowiz Games.

Gaming / KOFXIII aka the full version of last year's "beta test"

So, the event that was meant to pimp up SNK's newest version of KOF was earlier today. And my impression?

Now the King is BACK.  0v0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDxXnR2TvYI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utBp9BuBoDo

Some details:

-Game is slated for arcades this summer
-Female fighters team: Mai, Yuri, King is in the game
-Also slots for 6 other characters
-Character select seems to have multiple palette selections like Blazblue

-Characters can do new "EX" specials and supers by using up their power meter. EX versions of the moves can have various effects ranging from multiple hits, invincibility, hit detection after move hits, and in cases of some projectiles- faster speed, penetration.
-New "drive cancel" system allows for players to cancel a special or super into another one. Requires the use of the "drive meter". EX moves can be used.
-New "Hyper Drive" mode. When the drive meter is at MAX, you can go into Hyper Drive mode, which lets you cancel all normal moves, direction moves (like f+P), and also lets you do infinite drive cancels for a limited time.

-4 New stages: Bus Terminal (United Kingdom), Sumo ring in fall season, Jungle in the sunshine, Maharaja.

-Additional Stuff (some unconfirmed):
Terry has his Buster Wolf
Kyo can do an aerial Orochinagi

Also, the game will be included in the next Tougeki battle tournament.

- KOFXIII will be the climax of the Ash saga.
- The intro show's him, Rose & I could've swear ppl that wore clothes like Zero from KOF2000.
- I think there will be a total of 9 new characters, 3 which are revealed as the Women's Team (Mai, Yuri & King).
- As u can see, Mai is in her Real Bout oufit I think.
- Her fighting stance is like a very exaggerated pose from her official art from KOF2000.
- She has a new VA (Koshimizu Ami). The presenters commented that her voice sounds very sexy when she does her "Kachou-sen!" fan throw
- Yuri's sprite looks very cute.
- The character order selection screen's music is the same as KOFXI (probably just a placeholder).
- 4 new stages shown (1 is the jungle stage mysteriously removed from KOFXII). They also said that there will be more new stages.
- The sousai & critical combo system seems to have been removed.
- There is also no longer the zooming in & out camera effect (the camera seemed to be zoomed out now).
- The speed seems to have been increased.
- In short, the game feels more like classic KOF than the slower paced KOFXII.

Since this is for the arcade release, of course, we're not going to get anything about possible better netcode for the home release. But that doesn't matter for now. Welcome back to the fight for REAL, SNK.  0v0

Gaming / Liked Street Fighter 4? Looking forward to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:16:29 AM »
Well, if those games have been stroking you right, you might want to get used to what they have to offer. Capcom may be sticking with the "2.5D" look for a while now.

Quote
Capcom made quite a splash in 2008 when their near reboot of Street Fighter IV combined the depth and detail of 3D graphics placed over the traditional controls and mechanics of a 2D fighting game.

The developers liked the 2.5D effect so much they decided to apply it to upcoming Wii fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and producer Ryota Niitsuma tells Kotaku that all Capcom fighting games for the foreseeable future will also use the visual effect.

"I think that was the best way to present the Capcom and Tatsunoko characters to their fullest," Niitsuma said through a translator. "I think at Capcom one of our specialties is 2D fighting action and we have had a great history of making games like that.

"The 3D models on a 2D plane is a very good match and all of the (game) systems are capable of supporting such a feature. When making such games we can show our knowhow. Going out into the future I can't say it will remain like this forever, but for the forseeable future I can see us making our games in this style."

This shouldn't really be but so shocking to any body now, but at least it seems to be more or less plain now.

My thoughts? I don't care that much, really. TvC and SF4 have pretty much shown that Capcom can basically make 2D style fighting games just fine in 3D. Hell, some characters have been animated in SF4 than they've ever been in the past (see: Dhalsim and Chun-li).

Now...how about that Vampire/Darkstalkers game Ono wanted to work on so badly, hm, Capcom? Different art style, Vampire Savior mechanics, and we'd be in business, in my eyes.
