Gaming / PS Vita TV
« on: September 10, 2013, 04:01:50 PM »
Tokyo, September 9, 2013 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today introduced
PlayStation®Vita TV (PS Vita TV), a new entertainment system within the PlayStation®
family that will allow users to easily access video services, games and various content on their
TV at home. The new system adopts chip sets and system software of the PlayStation®Vita
(PS Vita) portable entertainment system and its size is 6.5cm × 10.5cm, smallest of all
PlayStation® platforms that connect to a TV. With PS Vita TV, users can comfortably enjoy
various video services in high quality, including “TSUTAYA TV,” TSUTAYA’s video service
with more than 40,000 contents new and old, “niconico,” delivering array of content including
live broadcasts, and “Hulu,” an online video subscription service with unlimited access to
movies, TVs and anime, by simply connecting the system to the network. In addition, more
than 1,300 software titles for PS Vita*1 as well as various network services for PS Vita and
PlayStation®Plus membership service can be enjoyed on the system. SCE will deliver
PlayStation® experience available on PS Vita TV through system software updates and by
enriching the content, to existing PlayStation® fans, as well as those who have not experienced
PlayStation® products.

Some things I find important or interesting.

Wikipedia lists Vita as having "PowerVR SGX543MP4+" for a GPU, while the Vita TV will have "IMG SGX543MP4+".

Video Output modes include 480p, 720p, 1080i. Does 480p crop or downscale the 960x544? Also, who no 1080p? 720p is the only one of those options that fully supports the PS Vita resolution.

The device seems to bypass the DAC the Vita would use and outputs the sound via LPCM on HDMI.

"Those users who are not playing but in the same room can enjoy the televised game play that the PS Vita TV users are playing." I like that they needed to point out that you can watch a friend play a video game. The 80s called.

You can play 2 Player PS Classic games with 2 controllers.

Will Sony eventually sell a special Vita Controller? Will you be able to use a Vita as a controller? Will you be able to use a PS4 controller? Can you play with any of those via the USB connector for wired play?

Value pack costs the equivalent of 50 USD more and includes a special edition(colored?) DS3 and an 8GB Memory Stick.

Includes a USB cable, but makes no direct mention of how USB will be used.

This needs to get cracked so we can use it as a homebrew box. I don't even care about pirating games, I just wanna see how well this can emulate.

Gaming / A Wild Wii U Demo Unit Apears At Best Buy
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:39:04 AM »
For those of us in Central-ish, AZ, the Best Buy in Fiesta Mall has a WiiU Demo Unit. You can only watch a few trailers and play the demo of Rayman, but you can see how the Wii U Gamepad feels. Which, I guess, counts for something.

Might be worth it to check out other Best Buys.

Gaming / Final Fantasy III PSP(Now With Pictures)
« on: October 10, 2012, 10:46:37 PM »
Quote
I just started playing the PSP version of Final Fantasy III.
It reads my system settings to know my language and my X/O functions. Unfortunately nobody told the HUD. The screen will still say "O Accept" and "X Cancel", even though that isn't true. So far It's a fun game. Dual Wielding all over the place. Luneth is usually dual wielding the two most powerful weapons, while everyone else usually uses the shop stuff.

I hate how slow the zoom is and how claustrophobic I have to be to see the secret switch/item indicator. If it were faster I could bare it. Maybe I'll make a cheat or something for it.

I love the Auto Battle system, but I don't like that I can't hold Select to cancel it as I'm going into a battle. If I win with it on I have to hope the next battle isn't special or I'm fast enough at pressing select rapidly. I like that it speeds up when Auto Battling. I might try to make a cheat that lets me toggle the speed increase in controlled battle. Maybe it even works out of battle?

I'll have some screenshots in the random picture thread eventually.

Alos, anybody who's played 3(though it may not matter since I'm sure they rebalanced the Jobs, even different from the DS version), How does Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, Thief sound? I want to have all warriors, but I know that will probably screw me over in the obligatory "physical attack resistant monster" dungeon that will teach me to use magic. Also, is Monk any good? I know in FF1 it had a side effect of getting multiple hits, so monsters who nullified all attacks to 1 were easily defeated if they had low HP. Maybe I'll do Warrior, Thief, Red Mage, Monk.

I thought I'd start up a thread for this game since it was so many questions and maybe other people would want a thread for the game.

Return of the side view.
Acceptable Graphics
Full 3D or stereoscopic 2D.

That's all I can think of. I haven't played RnR much beyond just past Cygnus.

We should hold some sort of vote or meeting. Granted, it's too soon to know how things will play out. How about, New Year's Day. That should be enough time to figure out some details.

Gaming / Game Idea
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:30:10 PM »
How about a game that focuses on handicaps?
It doesn't focus on one gimmick or just lowering stats. That's been done.

I'm talking about limited chroma or luminance vision. Or even blindness. Deafness too, but people might be overly used to playing silently. A lot of games have visual cues though. With the game, it would give you an objective and one or more handicaps you have to overcome to finish the objective.

Some things would naturally be hard, like blind dungeon navigation, or playing an instrument by ear with tone deafness. But, certain objectives would be purposefuly hard. Like, not being able to see colors and most of the graphics are different colors with the same luminance.

Some of the harder objectives will involve Deaf/Blindess or Synesthesia.

I don't know how fun a game where you are forced to take on handicaps would be, but hopefully my horrible typesetting and grammar skills will save this post.

Also, because of all this, the game would be playable, for the most part, by people with almost any handicap. By forcing every game player to overcome handicaps, it also lends itself to b played by game players with handicaps.

Gaming / Robotrek
« on: April 11, 2010, 10:13:44 PM »
Lately I've been playing Robotrek.
It's about a kid that battles with robots. You can equip the robots with parts and they level up. The battles take place in an elongated field of about 6x3 character spaces. It's got a pretty nice story and stuff.
You can go into computers at some point.
Anybody else play Robotrek?

Gaming / Let's Speculate About Wii 2
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:09:21 PM »
I looked and there was no topic existing.
If there is, link to it.
Mods, feel free to change the title to something better.

I will begin with some features and examples of games.

HD
At least 720p(real 720p, not stretched 480p. 1080p prefered.

Enough power to run Brawl at 120 FPS.
You know, just in case LCD TV makers wanna take that leap past 60Hz.

Eye/Head/Body Tracking
From something standing off to the side, like IR/non-IR cameras

More Axis
3 Accelerometers AND 3 Rotational Sensors(X,Y,Z+Rotation,Yaw,Pitch)

Higher Bandwidth Comms for controllers
Enough for 12 of what Wii uses it for now(Wii Remote+WMplus+1), but also have the ability to allocate it to many simple(low BW) control schemes(casual fishing games) or 1/2 complex(high BW) control schemes(multi-controller setups for full body control)

More Input Methods
Microphones, maybe, meh?

Built in Ethernet port
Damnit, why not? sheesh!

Rechargeable Batteries
Replaceable Li-Ions

More Standards
USB(charging, mass media, wired controllers), DVD(the Wii can do it, I've watched Gran Torino about 3 times over LAN)

Sell 1st Party USB-x Adapters
x=NES,SNES,N64,GCN controllers(they'll print money)

SDHC HW/eSATA/SMB Support

Moderated Homebrew Channel
Everything is run through a moderator to prevent piracy, but we still get awesome media players and stuff(If you wanna charge us for stupid [parasitic bomb], like half-assed MP3/AVI players, we'll just crack your system anyway and you won't even get money for the stuff that is worth money).

That is all for now. Maybe, if this gets more replies, I'll make a list or something.

Off The Wall / Help Setting Up a BBS Using NAS
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:06:36 PM »
I want to set up some BBS software to run on a LAN. I already have the NAS setup.

Any type of BBS is fine. It doesn't have to be BBS style.

Anything where one can post things.

PS: In before, "Use a shared TXT file".

PPS: Typing up a mock BBS in a TXT file would be humourus though.

1) Buy Gift Card
2) Register Online
3) Get Free Refills On Brewed Coffee

Challenge:
1) Drink as many as you can
2) Report here what size(oz), how many refills, and total Ounces(litres are fine too)
3) Ounces from ice, water, or anything except the coffee itself does not count.

Optional:
1) Pictures of empty cups
2) List of condiments(cinamon, ice, etc)
3) How long you ended up staying
4) How many refills before the employees started hating you

My record is 3 "Talls".
Total was 36 Ounces of coffee.
Each cup was supplimented with the same amount of ice.
Last cup Chocolate Powder, Cinamon, Whole Milk, Nutmeg, and Sugar was added.
Employees were nice, even with the repeated requests for more ice.

Console: Nintendo DS
Release date: 25th February 2010
Developer: Neverland Co
Genre: 3D Action RPG
Producer: Kojima Hajime

Interview
# The second game’s system was a lot more refined, the scenario and music were well liked, and it took place before the first game too, so we decided to use the second game as the motif (Kojima Hajime)
# We didn’t want to do a straight port (Ukeda Naoyuki)
# Square Enix told us that we’re free to do whatever we ant (Ukeda)
# So that’s what we’ll do! (Ukeda)
# Turn based command battle systems aren’t new anymore, so we’re making it an action rpg now (Kojima)
# It’s not just a remake, we’re rebuilding the story, the characters, and the world settings (Miyata Masahide)
# The hadou weapons will be a key component of the story, the world is different from the SFC version (Miyata)
# The bottom screen will only be used to switch characters (Kojima)
# The game will revolve around the D-pad more than the touch pen (Kojima)
# Boss battles will use two screens, it has its own special code for that part (Ukeda)
# Boss battles will be hard if you don’t know what to do against each one of them (Miyata)
# “It will satisfy action game players, but players that are bad with action games will be okay too” by Kojima
# Scenario is based on the second game, there are parts where we are deliberately letting them say the exact same words as in the original game (Miyata)
# But basically, everything is rewritten (Miyata)
# The number of towns that are appearing in the game is different from the original two games (Miyata)
# There will be parts in the game which will make fans of the series smile (Miyata)
# Miyata has surprisingly not changed at all. He’s just embarrassed reading his scenario from 15 years ago (Ukeda)
# The music is being brought over from the original two games (Ukeda)
# We changed the sound quality without messing with the melody line (Ukeda)
# The main staff from the SFC versions are making this game. It’s rare to have something like that 15 years after the last game (Ukeda)
# Stuff such as “Mahou no XXXX Magical XXXXXX” from the original are still in the game (Kojima)
# We changed a lot in the game, but we constantly kept in our minds that “we should keep the parts that made the series what it is” (Kojima)
Off The Wall / Musical Keyboard Emulator!!(Update)
« on: June 02, 2009, 01:31:35 PM »
Do you own a keyboard? I do. Ever wish it was a keyboard? Keyboards can be expensive, but keyboards are so cheap. I bet you're using a keyboard right now. I am.

Look no further. I have found a solution.

Now you too can use your keyboard as a keyboard!

I'mve lookinged for a Keyboard Emulator I can use with my qwerty keyboard to play music. IIf it emulateds midi input, even better!

http://www.midiox.com/zip/midioxse.exe
Bunch of midi stuff. Important part is keynotes.ini(can be left at default if you want) and the piano icon(Let's you use keynote.ini's mappings to play notes with a keyboard)

http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm
Midi notes produced from the midi device are echoed to a midi-in emulator(As if you have a real keyboard plugged in)
