Off The Wall / Re: See ya later!/Welcome back!
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:51:47 AM »
hi guys, i know i've been entirely absent for a while but i may as well make this official

i think i'm just about done with the megaman fandom! there's not a whole lot of new-and-exciting in it other than cancelled games and capcom's very silly sense of humor. and the thing is that even though this forum has plenty else to talk about, what it boils down to is that this is a megaman forum. and as much as i love you guys i'm just a few steps past this part of my life. as much as i appreciate the games, the overall passion i used to have for the fandom has kind of burned out.

i don't regret having been here! i met some very lovely friends and learned a lot, but i think it's time to put this to bed and move forward. i'm going to be just fine, i've got some new fandoms to keep me happy and occupied (homestuck, mlp, etc). i don't plan on falling totally out of touch with you guys though! i'm gonna go ahead and leave my contact info here, so you guys can keep up with me. i did a little bit of moving around so some of it is different now, but i don't think it'll be changing again anytime soon.

WHADDUP CHAAAAAAAAN holy [parasitic bomb] long time no talk

- Not much has changed from season 1 to 2
- She's back on the moon. Reconciliation was just for show. Celestia's a cruel dictator
- Rarity's the biggest dick of the gang, so I guess she honestly ends up deserving it
- Fluttershy's the second best because you can mess her up so much. Loss of sanity, Louis Armstrong voice, being forced to do [parasitic bomb]... she's the most experimented upon character in ths show
- Most additions are pretty awesome but the CMCs come off as Scrappy-Doozish in some stuff...
- SHOO BE DOO
- Derpy's strange to handle. Her name's supposed to be Ditzy Doo, but I honestly think she's gonna be ruined the moment she's given ANY personality at all beyond what the fandom idealize her as. It'll be such a shitstorm...
- Rainbow Dash is a raging lez and she's just like this because she hasn't come out of the closet like Applejack. Too bad Jack's banging Rarity already.
- Dunno who's Shady. BTW, Screwball (pony from last ep whose cutie mark was a screw and a baseball) seems to be the new Derpy so far. I like her design too.
yeah it has been a while hasn't it
1234 i declare a response war

-truth
-honestly this proves all the fanart and explains the importance being completely removed from luna in this video
-rarity isn't so much a dick as a fussy diva, which can come across as really really bitchy. i get your viewpoint tho
-fluttershy is way too much of a baby to be anything but a buttmonkey in this series, the sad fate of all polite characters
-i definitely agree in some ways, even if i was referring more to applebloom as a pony design. the CMC needs more character work and less "lets do random [parasitic bomb]"
-GOD PLEASE
-the fandom has taken her in so many different directions that whatever becomes canon will cause a shitstorm no matter what it is. doesn't change the fact that i have my own opinion on the matter.
-sexualities aren't personalities. i'd be less thrown by her new attitude if she wasn't an outgoing debutante like rarity in gen 3.
-shady is a g1 pony http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z60/CelaenoNaNa/DSCN1053.jpg and i have honestly heard little to nothing about screwball, she hasn't made enough of an impact on my part of the fandom to come up on the radar i suppose.

pony commentary:
-season 1 and season 2 had, essentially, the same introduction
-season 2's intro... where's luna? in that ending scene star wars parody they could have thrown her in even if it was a background appearance but she's literally no where to be found
-season 1 episode 14, everyone is a [tornado fang]ing horrible dick to rarity and she proves herself as a dedicated worker and pretty much invalidates everything applejack said in episode 8
-i personally only liked fluttershy in the scenes where she loses her cool and the scene where she's talking to discord just before she falls under his spell
-applebloom is a wonderful addition to the mlp universe as a gen 4 original
-wonders and worries about the possible appearance of seaponies
-i'm not at all excited for derpy's upcoming episode in season 2, i would rather her be an eccentric mother than the popular fandom opinion of her being... disabled. i hope they go in the former direction.
-rainbow dash's gen 4 incarnation is, although a refreshing change to her gen 3 one, really hard to look at. she's a complete [dark hold] most of the time
-i'd like to see a gen 4 appearance of the forgotten pony shady (who's cutie mark was a pile of sunglasses, i'd love to see the explanation behind that one)

i like how pretty much this entire thread is arguing about whether or not madoka is a good anime, rathar than arguing about whether or not it would localize in the US well.

if you're looking for my opinion, it's not bad. i liked the character designs and not much more when i first watched it but got more attached to the idea behind it a while later. don't let anyone tell you that injecting death and tragedy into magical girls is a new idea, that [parasitic bomb]'s been around for years. madoka pulls it off in an interesting manner though.

of course i'm more concerned about how my waifu will sound in english than anything else, like any discerning anime no-lifer.

But Mami-chan is the best~ (and bustiest) :3
she was my absolute favorite character, i wanted to hug her because she was such a sweet girl

I agree with this statement. The first game they would do would be fine. The next game might offer a little twist, and even maybe the next one. It would definitely be a bit stale after that though. Same for the X series.

A MMZ cartoon would be better ideally because it's not necessarily set to a predictable model like the Original and X series. Legends would be great too.

But I'm sure another original series or X series cartoon would be fine, they'll just have to get more creative. What did everyone else think about the X manga?
the thing with the zero series is that it actually followed an acceptably cohesive plot from game to game, which would make it the best fodder for a megaman cartoon if you're so desperate for one. legends might be doable, yeah. there's a lot to work with since it seems to overall have more put into it as far as world building goes. we can only get so far on "DIS IZ DA FYOOCHUR DER AR ROBITS [parasitic bomb] IS GOAN DOWN", which is what both the classic and X series coasted by on. (in the year 20XX...)

granted i'm not trying to discredit the X and Classic series for what they are. there was quite a lot of effort and thought put into both series but you really can't ignore the simple fact that the games all stuck to a specific format (aside from command mission, but i'd be surprised if someone made a television series based on a half-baked rpg spinoff), and the world around that format changed way too much to keep track of. it's like each game is years apart, and yet the exact same [parasitic bomb] is happening over and over.

The source story being limited means nothing; if anything it creates an opportunity.  Any decent game adaptation needs to stand on its own rather than remain strictly within the confines of the game story, or else it's just redundant.  As an example, just look at Sonic SatAM.  The games, in terms of storyline, offered jack squat other than the robot theme to the villain.  The show took the games as an inspiration, and from there succeeded by its own merits.
this is an excellent point, and something to consider. another thing to consider though, is that fandoms are INCREDIBLY fickle. a lot of people who enjoy the megaman series as a game simply will not accept something new and different. i'm not pointing any fingers though, if someone managed to take these cookie cutter games and turn them into a well scripted story universe with emotionally charged situations i'd be more than excited.

the main problem being that both classic characters and X-series characters are somewhat shallow. they operate on very few character traits (hero, aloof, evil, smart, etc). it doesn't make them completely non-functional as characters, considering we're all still attached to them after so many years. to make it work they would need a hardcore rewrite, which i would welcome with open arms.

Megaman Zero says Hi
well yeah, you have a point there. but you have to take into account... every other megaman series.

19
i don't know if any of the megaman series would work as an animated series, to be honest with you

none of the games really have any character development at all. same heroes, same fights, different enemies. it's always been primarily gameplay and the storytelling has come second in every single case.

unless LOADS of creative license was taken it would just be really awkward and dumb. day of sigma worked because it was a very small story that explained a bunch and pretty much dropped the entire X series into a nutshell.

most of your designs are a little top-heavy

heavy chest armor makes sense in battle situations and i totally endorse it, but from an aesthetic point of view it looks silly to have these big wumba chest plates and nothing on the lower body to make up for it. it's almost like all of these people would tip over.

you could go either way with it, slim it down on the top or bulk it up on the bottom

http://s4.postimage.org/2wv3mfois/ck7_new_model_f_by_quakebrothers_d2xyp8g.jpg this image in particular doesn't have that problem. if you could maintain this sort of balance with a slim-bodied armor everything here would be awesome.

also i'd like to see you try a couple of different color techniques. pencils seem to be working pretty well for you to get your ideas out there but theyre not as conspicuous as markers would be. you should color one image with pencils to solidify your idea and then the other with marker just to brighten it up and make it more concrete, if that makes sense.

keep drawin!
