Title: Golden Sun
Post by: Acid on January 09, 2009, 11:00:22 PM
Even though we will not get a sequel in the next few years, I still felt like making this topic.

Golden Sun
(http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5002/goldensunwc8.jpg)

I'm currently replaying this, and it's fantastic. Anybody else played these games?
They're simple and light hearted RPGs. If you enjoy turn based roleplaying games with stats in reasonable dimensions (e.g.: Lunar 1+2 and Breath of Fire 3) you should totally give this one a try. Both games are really long and the puzzles can grind your brain to dust (At least... that's what they did with mine).

I remember the graphics blew my mind away on the early days of the Game Boy Advance, and still look fantastic today. Also it spawned ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME COMMERCIALS EVER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOvwdVp8Fvo)

This is another one of those gems I missed out on due to circumstance. There's hope for a sequel though as the series isn't forgotten and Camelot wants to make another one. As for me, I guess I should get to hunting for em.

[tornado fang], I remember this one and the snowboarding in church commercials as some of the best stuff from the early GBA days. Still though the "Who Are You?" commercials were easily some of the best commercials ever.

I still can't find a copy of the first one (I was wrongly sold the second and told it was the first >< ). Oh well, I'll find a way to play it.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Solar on January 10, 2009, 04:55:32 AM
1.-Find a ROM of the first one.
2.-Get all the Djinns and beat it.
3.-Start a new file in GSTLA with your GS password.
4.-Find Dullahan and get your ass kicked. A lot. By a lot I mean hundreds of times.
5.-Finally defeat Dullahan, get the final summon, and brag about how good you are for defeating Dullahan (you deserve it).
6.-? ? ?
7.-Profit

I have fond memories of the multiplayer battle mode and how some friends would dare try to beat me... only to get their asses handed to them almost immediately. I think the only time I've ever come close to losing was when one of them started the battle right away with Charon and it insta-killed two of the three people in my party.

Unfortunately for him, the person left over was my healer and packed some very potent defense. That aside, I would always take out their healer's first, usually pretty quickly, and then rip apart whoever they used as support. Summoning was for pussies when Isaac was a Ninja Master who can randomly one-hit-kill with Annihilation or smack the sun into people with the Sol Blade.

Oh [tornado fang]ing hell yes.  I perhaps replays GS1 and 2 about....a good 3 times each and it's never boring and what I love about GS1 especially is how each playthrough, you'll never see the same equipment (aside from weapons) each time (especially if you decide to jack the [parasitic bomb] up of Ivan's agility<3).

Oh and the music and summons kickass.  I remember being ridiculiously impressed w/ its style and graphics, especially w/ the spells and unleashes during battles~.

Oh and multiplayer, I managed to beat my friend's lv.96 party once w/ a lv.50 party XD.  All it took was him to waste Iris on a party that has Flash Djinni set up XD

This post randomly makes me want the game more and wish that Issac was a playable in Brawl. He sounds bad ass. XD

Post by: Solar on January 10, 2009, 07:09:23 AM
or smack the sun into people with the Sol Blade.

MEGIDDO FTMFW!

That's, IMO, the best critical hit in any RPG. Most are simply a stronger version of the attack, but in Golden Sun, oh no, that's not enough, you're gonna get the [tornado fang]ing Sun dropped on you XD
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: STM on January 10, 2009, 09:06:39 AM
All my characters are tricked out in the strongest gear they could possibly use. So my main team is sporting stuff like Sol Blade, Tisiphone Edge, Excalibur and Lachesis' Rule... and I think I have Piers with cursed weaponry. I always did love the critical attacks in Golden Sun though. Like you said, it wasn't enough to just hit for more damage than normal. No, it got all flashy as the artifact weapons got better.

But I digress. Very enjoyable GBA RPG. People will immediately throw out the overrated card, but it's still a very shining portable RPG. I guess the only fault I can bring up is that it can get wordy at times, usually a character rephrases what another just said and, to make sure you're still alive, they ask you questions that can be answered Yes or No which, while it might change some dialog at best, doesn't have much of a difference on the story (with the exception of one instance at the very beginning of the first game: if you refuse to accept the burden of saving the world, the screen will go black and white and you'll get the "bad ending.")
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Ephidiel on January 10, 2009, 09:52:14 AM
actually Golden Sun has two different kind of critical hits.
the normal critical hit were it zooms in on the character and the weapon summon.
some of these weapon summons, like the Tisiphone Edge or Swift Blade have a different numbers of hits.

I think Felix' and Isaac's Ragnarok skill looks cooler than Megiddo.

(A little confusion here, that attack where they ram a gigantic sword into the enemy is called Ragnarok in the US too, right?)
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: STM on January 10, 2009, 03:10:48 PM
Yep. I like the upgrade of it, Odyssey. Stabs them with two swords then finished with a gigantic one.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Acid on January 10, 2009, 03:13:13 PM
Oh yeah! I completely forgot about that one!

Man this game was so great.

I hope that Golden Sun 3 (should we ever get it) doesn't change the battle system. It's perfect the way it is. But some HD sprites a lá 'Wario Land Shake Dimension' would rock.

Yeah, Ragnarok and Odyssey are awesome, but those two are psynergies, and Megiddo is a normal attack. What other RPG lets you drop the Sun on someone as a normal attack? No other RPG, and that's why I love Golden Sun XD
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Acid on January 10, 2009, 07:13:28 PM
I know. Megiddo is insanely broken. There's a chance of like... 70% it will trigger. That's ridiculious. Increase someone strength with spells and you can do some whopping 2500 damage.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: The Drunken Dishwasher on January 10, 2009, 09:27:27 PM
FFFF Give Isaac the Excalibur.  He'd be unleashing that thing every 1-2 turns or even do constant unleashes every turn. (srsly.)
Title: Re: Golden Sun

Dullahan however... is another story.

Sadly I beated Dullahan via the summon way >.>''''''.  One day i'll beat him normally, after having a giggle w/ the Wonder Phoenixes (I think that's what they're called...)
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Acid on January 10, 2009, 09:37:29 PM
I barely summon. I didn't even want to use them. Using Djinns in a fight that hard? No way in hell.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: STM on January 11, 2009, 06:01:19 AM
Yeah, I summon rushed Dullahan too. He can wipe out a full level 99 party without much problem. He is truly a deadly boss simply because he nerfs your whole party's djinn's into recovery mode, heals a good chunk of HP (300 doesn't sound like a lot, but it will be once he uses the prior attack) and Ars Arcanum (I believe that's what it was called) does a nasty amount of damage... never mind him being able to summon Charon.

At the same time, it's good to have a secret boss who can put to shame a well leveled party. Makes the fight all the better.

Oh, and of course, once you beat Dullahan in the game, he'll appear in the Colosseum monster arena, only be MUCH harder. I've never beaten him when he shows up.

I'm not sure what the 'summon way' is, but I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you summoned every single Djinn prior to the fight and then used the spells that they make or whatever. I'm about 90% sure that's what it's called, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

newbie help in the first one: after I beat Tret, is the town supposed to still be filled with tree-people, or was there something I was supposed to do?
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: STM on January 15, 2009, 08:46:08 PM
You need to get Mia to cure him with the Water of Hermes from Imil.

Summon Rush is putting all your djinn on standby and nailing the boss with the strongest summons you can. It's great for taking off large chunks of HP, but if you don't down him quickly after, you'll likely be wiped out because of how utterly weak you are without djinn set to your character.

Oh, you'll see a tree fell into the river before Kolima at a checkpoint... yeah, you'll want to use move on that tree. It's worth it for the result and the subsequent item in The Lost Age.

It's a NECROPOST! OF GREAT NECROSITY!

Or not, since I've got a whole hell of a lot of relevant information from Dark Dawn, the recently named DS installment due out this Christmas.

Quote from: Press Release
It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn
A classic role-playing game branches out with a new look, countless adventures, and heroic battles. The game picks up 30 years after the first two games in the series left off. A the end of Golden Sun: The Lost Age, The heroes succeeded in bringing the world-healing power of the Golden Sun back to the world of Weyard. In the years since, the immense power of the Golden Sun has changed nearly everything. Continents have shifted. New countries have emerged. New species have appeared. But the world is now imperiled by a new threat. Psynergy Vortexes, which suck the elemental Psynergy from both the land and pwer-wielding Adepts alike, are spreading across the world. The new generation of heroes - the children of those from the previous games - are drawn into the mystery behind the vortexes, as they cross a chaotic world that is succumbing to a new evil.

FEATURES:
 • Amazing graphics and beautifully animated summoning abilities that span both Nintendo DS screens let players experience the game like never before.
 • The story takes place 30 years after the final events of the second game, when the Golden Sun Effect occurred. The main characters are the descendents of the previous game's heroes.
 • Intutive touch-screen control has been implemented throughout the game, controlling character movements and the release of Psynergy - magical abilities with powerful effects over people and the environment. Touch control also streamlines battle commands and gives players a stronger tactile connection to the action on the screen.
 • Players will explore a vast and beautifully rendered world where they will find many treasures, encounter dangerous creatures and manipulate objects blocking their path. Players will also hunt for and collect Djinn, mysterious elemental elemental creatures used to summon powerful spirits in battle.

It's a distinct possibility, considering that two of the screens show who I suspect is Isaac; the last one has Garet too, I think. Look at their poses and weapons; same as in the GBA titles.

Also, the fourth screenie I posted gives away the name of a fourth character, Crown... hmm...
Title: Re: Golden Sun

Now comes the Internet fun time game of fun-ness...

Who are the parents?

(collective groan from some people)

...Well, based on the two moves Matthew knows from screen shot (Move and Flame, I believe) It's pretty much almost a giveaway Isaac and Jenna are his parents.

Not too sure on the rest, Terrel looking like Garet aside. Karis having green hair is a bit of a throw off, though she likely uses wind.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Mirby on June 21, 2010, 01:12:10 AM
Also remember these lines from TLA.
Quote from: Me in an e-mail to a former friend, a while back
Anyways, while playing through GS2, two lines said by characters caught me. Mind Read Kushinada in Izumo after learning Sand  and she thinks, "If Felix's descendants are ever in trouble, our Takeru will rush to their aid." Takeru is what she's gonna name her son. Also, after beating Doom Dragon, enter the house east of the Inn in Prox. The man says, "I think the rift to the north started receding when the lighthouse was lit." His wife says, "I wonder if that hole up north has stopped growing. What if it starts again?" So there might be an event in Izumo in GSDS, and there might be a much larger Weyard to explore too. Because if the rift visibly receded in the minutes following the lighting of the Mars Beacon, however much time has passed in GSDS should be sufficient for Weyard to be fully nourished and have regained it's former splendor and size. Which is pretty cool!

Hey, looks like I was right on the larger Weyard part! ^_^

Also, one thing I noticed was this.

Kyle, Isaac's father, and the parents of Felix and Jenna were healed by the light of the Mars Lighthouse. Kyle and Felix's dad were Venus adepts, the trait that was passed down to their sons. Mars and Venus share a symbiotic relationship (according to Saturos in GS1). Felix and Jenna's mom was a Mars adept, which is why the Mars Beacon healed her. That trait went down to her daughter.

This means that the elemental associations are genetic. That might be something to throw into the equation.

Lastly, the Isaac/Jenna link is obvious. As for who Garet got together with... Sheba? Hmm... and the new girl... Mia and Ivan?

That's all I can think of. Piers could have been involved with Mia, but the hair would remain blue, wouldn't it?

Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Mirby on August 18, 2010, 05:06:06 AM
It is. Blue hair, so possibly spawn of Piers? Or Mia? or Piers and Mia?

Regardless, Crown looks good. Good to see there's still some cartoony sensibilities present, and seeing the forming of the Golden Sun like that at the start was EPIC!!

Still no sign of Alex though...

Thanks for finding that, Tai!

EDIT: Could someone translate that text on the white screen, after the Golden Sun forms?

Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Fariator on September 23, 2010, 05:37:11 PM
^I did more or less.

But I'm more concerned about the protagonist's elementality. The player is either using djinnis to make the character learn that fireball psynergy, or is he a Mars Adept? The red glow around his hand in the boxart also points to this more or less. I may have missed some official announcement on the matter, though.

Also unless the world we know from The Lost Age has changed drastically, I can assume that the world has been expanded quite a bit. Gotta see about that, then.

Anyway, I'm hyped up for this game. That boxart is ultra smexy.

^If old classes are kept intact, I definetely suggest "Master" class for the Venus Adepts, which is my favorite.
What I keep in mind, is to make every character's agility as high as possible, which makes everything little too easy. Well, maybe not if the boss uses a Djinn Storm, but yeah.

The last time I played The Lost Age, my party was:
Main party:
Isaac - Master (Lv 40) - Djinnis: 4x Mars, 5x Jupiter
Felix - Master (Lv 40) - Djinnis: 4x Mars, 5x Jupiter
Sheba - Sage (Lv 37) - Djinnis: 3x Jupiter, 6x Mercury
Piers - Guru (Lv 40) - Djinnis: 2x Mercury, 7x Mars

Backup party:
Mia - Pure Mage (Lv 38) - Djinnis: 4x Venus, 5x Jupiter
Garet - Paladin (Lv 39) - Djinnis: 4x Venus, 5x Mercury
Ivan - Ninja (Lv 38) - Djinnis: 6x Venus, 3x Mars
Jenna - Paladin (Lv 38) - Djinnis: 4x Venus, 5x Mercury
With those djinni sets, all characters are faster than any creature in the game, except
Star Magician and his minions.
And yes, that was my party when I last killed the optional boss,
Dullahan.
I hope there will be new ways to customize the classes and such in this new game. I really liked coming up with new methods as I played around with the djinni combinations.

Yeah, I can believe that. Just that their new costumes sorta make them look like wholly different characters.

Is there any info how big time gap is there between The Lost Age and Dark Dawn?

Try this post from earlier in this very topic.

Also, they're in the same poses as in the GBA games. That was the clincher for me.

I assembled this myself from 8 short videos found off of the games official Japanese site. The Djinni images were also ripped from there.

I placed them in order of characters you gained in the original (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury = Isaac, Garet, Ivan, Mia). It took me all day to get this ready, but I hope you all enjoy it!

just because it's easier, I'm posting a condensed chat log describing the info here
Quote
<Mirby> http://www.nintendoeverything.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/golden_sun_dark_dawn_scan_jump2.jpg
<Mirby> i can't read it, but still
<OCRE> let's see here
<Mirby> new enemies shown (spade and heart?)
<OCRE> Looks like we got a ne- yeah
<OCRE> lol
<Mirby> what I like
<Mirby> is how every single djinn has a unique appearance
<OCRE> and is that little Eoleo
<OCRE> all growed up
<Mirby> possibly!
<Mirby> yes, that's how it translates
<Mirby> actually, it's Reoreo, but what else could that be
<Mirby> wonder if he'll be an ally
<OCRE> :)
<OCRE> I bet.
<OCRE> or maybe he'll be an enemy at firt
<OCRE> first
<Mirby> probably; I'm sure that his mum won't forget what Felix did for him
<OCRE> lol
<Mirby> and for Briggs, and for Champa
<OCRE> or his grandmother
<Mirby> Her too
<Mirby> XD
<Mirby> quote from the guy who linked that pic to me
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Other characters will be added to your party (temporarily?)
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Including Isaac and Garet

<OCRE> ah
<OCRE> that's ok
<Mirby> kinda like Jenna in the first game, but more often
<Mirby> that's what I'm guessing
<OCRE> yeah
<Mirby> Anyways, while playing through GS2, two lines said by characters caught me.
<Mirby> I told that to a friend in an email
<OCRE> oh yeah
<OCRE> absolutely deliberate
<OCRE> I love Camelot
<OCRE> they really put their heart and soul into their games
<Mirby> they do
<Mirby> still, larger Weyard to explore
<OCRE> yup
<OCRE> though I wouldn't count on being able to visit
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Screenshot 1: Four characters Matthew, Karis, Crown, Eoleo
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Screenshot 2: Eoleo says "Are you trying to make me indebted to you?"

<OCRE> the WHOLE of weyard
<OCRE> ha
<Mirby> it's possible
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> On the enemy side of the page
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Tsaparang is a military nation conducting secret maneuvers
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> They excel in science and military power.   For some reason their commander contacts your party.
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> They appear all over and seem to be making use of you.
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Screen 1: Spade "I shouldn't belittle you.  Now I have to finish you here."
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Screen 2: Heart "What a troublesome group of children..."

<Mirby> http://www.dotup.org/uploda/www.dotup.org1174069.jpg <--better quality scan
<Mirby> you can easily see some examples of the uniqueness of the djinni's appearance
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Profiles:
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Spade: A warlike swordsman with "sword" as his name that stands in front of Matthew & Co.
<Mirby><LordHuffnPuff> Heart: A commander of Tsaparang. She gets close to important persons from other countries using her bewitching beauty as a weapon.
<Mirby> <LordHuffnPuff> Eoleo is the "Prince of the Pirates"

<OCRE> :)
<Mirby> ^.^
<OCRE> thanks for tellin i
<Mirby> no prob
<OCRE> i think I'll wait for the final game for any more into though
<OCRE> since it's so close
<Mirby> yeah, that's a good idea
<Mirby> but now we know that eoleo returns
<OCRE> yeah
<OCRE> i had hoped for that :)
<Mirby> which means there's a good chance of other characters returning
<Mirby> as well
Bolded and colored in red are quotes that translate info on the page. The rest is just speculation between OCRE and me.

So, found this little trinket on my travels: rumored parent lineage of each of the four mains.

As always, take with a grain of salt, but these seem pretty damn probable.

-Matthew: Isaac and Jenna
...Yeah, this one was pretty damn obvious, especially after he was seen using a fire psynergy.

-Tyrell: Garet and some NPC
Leave it to Garet to not get someone from the main party.

-Karis: Piers and Sheba
...Oh boy, this one's going to [acid burst] off a lot of people. Aside from being a wind adept and somewhat resembling her mother, her green hair (previously unseen in the series) may be the result of some genetic allele breaking breeding where blonde and blue become green. Seems a bit of a stretch but...

Crown: Ivan and Mia
Another controversial one, but I can somewhat see this one for being obvious kind and gentle staff user, the hair color, and kinda looking like Ivan.

...uh oh... That's seven accounted for. Guess who went solo...

Felix: Forever Alone (as far as we know)

If this list holds true, expect so many shippers to flip their [parasitic bomb].
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Mirby on October 01, 2010, 04:39:03 AM
Issac and Jenna
Felix and Sheba

These two are givens. Considering that the first was heavily hinted on, and the second is possible (I'm sure he had other reasons for saving her when Venus Lighthouse fell)

I'm calling Mia and Ivan, personally.

I'm also adding in genetics here. (see Mars Lighthouse; Kyle is Venus, son is too. Jenna's mom is Mars, so is she. Felix's dad is Venus, so is he. So gender relations here)

This means that Matthew (Venus) is Isaac's son (with Jenna no doubt), Karis (Jupiter) is Sheba's daughter (with Felix I'm sure), Tyrell (Mars) is Garet's son (with someone else, who knows who), and Crown (Mercury) is... Piers? I'm still not sure on Crown's gender. I've heard Male, which means that would be the only way it would work with main party members and genetics as shown in TLA.

Then again, genetics could be wrong from my assumption and Crown could be Mia's son and still be Mercury.

Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Mirby on October 02, 2010, 02:52:13 AM
Yes.

It'll be Isaac, Garet, Ivan, and Mia. and then when it dies, it'll take Felix, Jenna, Sheba, and Piers and reform. And when that dies, it'll take all of them and become a giant 9 headed dragon with Alex at the top.

So the second image proves that Takeru will appear, as he was mentioned when Mind Reading Kushinada after defeating the Serpent of Gaia Rock. That's the screeny there. YAAY!

Also, Famitsu scores were 9, 8, 8, 8. (33/40)

By comparison, GS1 got 9, 8, 9, 8 (34/40) and TLA got 9, 8, 9, 7 (33/40). This is good, because it shows that at least Famitsu thinks that Dark Dawn is as good as the others. ^.^

EDIT: Here, Tai. From the GSR boards. Translations of your pics (minus the Famitsu review)
Quote from: Cinder
Who is Matthew's mother? (Isaac's wife!)

Hiroyuki: Matthew's mom is Jenna. Karis is Ivan's child, and Rief is Mia's child.

--- Everyone is a child of the group from the previous game, aren't they! By the way, Piers, who has lived so long, when will he show...?

Shugo: I wonder. I wanna meet him.

Hiroyuki: Yeah. I wanna meet him.

Side: Names of the characters you know.
Left of Matthew: Blue circles are Dark Dawn people
Right of Matthew: Matthew's family lineage will be something like this, won't it.

Will the secret behind Sheba's birth become clear?

Hiroyuki: ... I wonder if it will.

Shugo: I wonder (laugh).

Below: Sheba, who fell from the sky, traveled with Felix to search for the secret of her birth, but she ended up empty-handed. Did the Anemos village she fell from disappear from the sky, too...?

Sheba: Felix remembers... I have a reason to be traveling with you...

Where are the Djinn that Isaac and company partnered up with?

Hiroyuki: Hmm, Flint appears.

--- The one that Isaac met at the beginning, right. How about that Djinni that spoke with a Kyoto accent...? (Note: Talking about Echo)

Hiroyuki: It's eating and resting.

Shugo: No matter what, it didn't say anything. (can't really read the rest)

Side: Echo, the Djinni that Felix met at the beginning, skillfully speaks with a Kyoto accent!

Is the Fifth party member that character from the previous game? (picture shows baby Eoleo)

??: It's Eoleo. (rest is cut off)

Second cam pic:

(cut off)...thought he could see the future of the world.

Shugo: Though the power of Psynergy is basically the source of power.

Hiroyuki: By the way, the Glider Wing was developed by Ivan, who appeared in the previous games.

Will Takeru from Izumo be running around?

Shugo: ...I almost said it just now.

Hiroyuki: That, well, look forward to it.

Below: Felix saved Kushinada from being a sacrifice to the Serpent. It was transmitted to Felix that if Kushinada bore a child, they would name him Takeru. Since she and the others have a bit of the power of Earth Adepts, surely Takeru would, too...?

Will details about the Wise One be explained?

Shugo: It might just simply be a mystery (laugh).

Hiroyuki: I think Isaac simply wants to meet the Wise One one more time to be certain of its true intentions. Nothing came out of Isaac's mouth, but Garet talked.

Shugo: Also with him venturing into Sol Sanctum, before long, Tyrell would be interested in wings. Like father like son (laugh).

Below: In the first Golden Sun, Garet destroys his sister's flowers while practicing his Psynergy.

Side: The Wise One saves them and sets them on a journey. Characters who appear have various opinions on the matter.

Is the end of "The Lost Age" a foreshadowing for this game?

Hiroyuki: That's right! There's no doubt that that moment in time was meant to hint at a sequel.

The Wise One: If you survive, perhaps we shall meet again someday...

Below: It was this one sentence that made a ton of players believe in a sequel and lose all doubt. Everyone waited for it!

and i love the game *__*
the battles are kinda too easy though
the only hard battle i encountered so far was against enemies that depleted my PP but that was really early in the game
haven't encountered any of those kind again, yet.

I personally enjoyed how the game goes out of its way to explain the events of part 1 and 2.  The encyclopedia is a wonderful addition.  Srsly, more rpgs should do what Xenosaga and FFXIII (and now GS3 is in this list, and other rpgs I missed) did.  Or even series that have a bit more focus on its story than usual (*stares at Megaman X*)

I wouldn't be surprised if the game costs over 50 euros (about 66 USD) in here in Finland in some stores.

That's really why I preordered this from America, but it just hasn't arrived yet. Hopefully it does before December 10th (the day it's released here).

Post by: Mirby on December 07, 2010, 02:10:50 AM
Actually, you can use all-stylus, all-buttons, or a mix of both.

It's beautiful; I beat the game and rarely used the touch screen at all, except when I felt like it.
It was pretty awesome. Wanted to summon Crystallux (3V, 4Me) and Eclipse (3J, 4Me) but only had 3 Me on standby. Summoned Crystallux (putting set Djinn to 0V 1Me 3J) and before Eclipse could be summoned, Rief used a Djinn, raising the Me set to 2, and then Sveta used Eclipse, killing the Chaos Chimera.

I didn't expect the timing to go that well. I was honestly worried that Sveta would move before Rief and screw everything up. But she didn't.

Also, my main party is Matthew, Eoleo, Karis, and Amiti. <3 this lineup. Currently ready to fight Dullahan for the final Summon Tablet, Iris.
The only true points of no return are
after getting Rief (no more Western Angara, or Lookout Cabin, Patcher's Place, and Carver's Camp)
and
after the Luna Tower rises and the Grave Eclipse begins (no more northern Angara, or Belinsk, Border Town, Port Rago, and Kolima)

After you get the ship, you can still reach southern Angara, which is Passaj and stuff.

Danm I can't believe I'm already passed the last point of no return.  I play RPGs, excluding Pokemon, way too fast.  Then again I missed a heck of a lot of Djinn so maybe after I beat the game I should start a new one and try to get all the Djinn, poor Reif is practicly useless right now.

Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Sakura Leic on December 29, 2010, 05:27:20 AM
Yeah because Amiti is kickass for a balance character he can do almost everything but doesn't really excell in anything so I mostly use him for backup attacking/healing/magic attacks depening on the situation at hand so basicly a jack of all trades.

I'm using Sveta because I love fist characters and she's a good attacker and can heal, not as good as Karis but Matthew can heal too so I have 3 characters that can heal at least.   Now I'm trying out Eoleo since Tyrell is so slow and I want to see if he's any better.

What exactly was Piers good with in Golden Sun: Lost Age?  I never played the first 2 games to tell you the truth, all I know is that he's a Mercury Adept and that he ages even slower because of being from Lemuria and the Golden Sun event.

He's still good for something. Why don't you use him as a power booster if you missed that power-boosting Mars Djinni (Reif's practically pre-equipped with two Djinni in my party when I got him, with the other being the revive Djinni I got earlier in the game as a R.E.)? BTW, you can still get the prima guide while you still haven't past the other P.O.N.R. yet.

Taking a quick break so I can do other things, and playing the same game for a week can do things to ya. It's too bad I missed playing the first two though. :\

Dude I'm already passed the last point of no return and Reif was just another mage character plus I prefer warriors, Karis being an exception if Sveta doesn't work with my team.  But I do have another save file before I went to Craggy Peak if I'm desperate so I'm cool.

Mages do have their uses. :P

Plus I haven't gotten up to that point yet, and I guess it's all about perferences, as I'm more of a balanced player when it comes to team setup, since I seem to have a habit coming underleveled to bosses anyways. :\

I know they do but I like Amiti better sure his magic isn't the best but again he's the best backup I've ever had.

Plus in this game I never ran from fights, except during the Luna Tower apocalypse event because I was annoyed with the dead bodies blocking my way to other places and the fights definitly didn't help especially since they usually came in 4's, so I'm usually at decent levels.  I also did do a little cash grinding in the beginning so I'm fine with my party.
Title: Re: Golden Sun
Post by: Gaia on December 29, 2010, 06:30:58 AM
Never ran from fights either, maybe I did go overboard with kills though, haha. I might replace Reif with Amiti once I get him.

And that's a bunch of undead for ya, can be very annoying at best. I did money-grinding early on too, plus did a few work-arounds in the feild to see if there were good peices of equipment for each member aside from shopping as a bonus.

You are correct. There is even someone in Tonfon who pretty much says "weren't you just here" in reference to Amiti, obviously mistaking him for Alex, his father. I really wish there was multiplayer this time around. Going for every post-game thing feels trivial since once you complete it all, you're left with a rather sorry final boss.

A fully decked out Matthew with Karis doing support and two other characters is more than enough to embarrass the whole last battles.

Just finished the game~ the final set of events (including the final battle and _ _ _ _ 'reveal') were pretty damn epic, and well, heartwarming.  The cliffhanger is also pretty sweet~ Dark Dawn is definitely a nice intro to the new world of Weyard.

I AWAIT FOR GS4/2!!!

I also got damn lucky before all that w/ the forging materials.  I got 3 Verdant Swords in a row, and 1 Excalibur right on the first try forging the Oricalcum (sp?), add in w/ the Sol Blade, I got a fine set of warriors~  Shame I couldn't find a decent weapon for Rief, but everyone's defense stats is well balanced.  Such a damn shame I missed out on Gears Djinn.  Well, least the second playthrough should be interesting~ i'm glad the play around w/ stats is more or less as open as GS1 and 2~

Funny thing, I pretty much completely ignored Rief ever since I got Amiti and he pretty much saved my ass with his healing  in the final battle while every other useful support person left was either dead or djinn-less >.>

...I must admit, the attempt at activating the Apollo Lense made me a MatthewXSveta supporter >.>

Also, I found Meggido to be visually underwhelming compared to its awesome GBA counterpart. The Verdant Sword's unleash is [tornado fang]ing awesome though.

So I played through this again and just wanted to comment on the story again.

And to help prevent spoilers, even though everyone should know this by now, I'm spoilering it.
So playing through again, I realized just how much that Alex had manipulated everyone. He knew that the Insight Glass would be given to someone from Ayuthay, and he knew that the Alchemy machines would be necessary for the activation of the Apollo Lens. So he reactivated the Alchemy Well (but not the Alchemy Forge since he is still a Mercury Adept) and fathered Amiti, and then vanished without a trace. Along the way, he allied himself with the Tuaparang and began to manipulate them in order for his ultimate goal. So the Eclipse Tower was activated, which was necessary to release Light Psynergy when the Apollo Lens were fired at it. My guess is that he was in Belinsk when the explosion of Light Psynergy occurred and then left promptly. He also was manipulating the Tuaparang because only with their Dark Psynergy would the Apollo Lens be activated (knowing full well that through manipulating Volechek into reactivating the Eclipse Tower and having to be saved by the Dark Psynergy would he be able to fire the Apollo Lens and not cause the death of any of the party members, allowing them to be alive when he needed them again).

In summation, I'm guessing that Alex is gonna be the final boss of the next, and probably last, Golden Sun game. Looking at all the hints in the GBA games for this one (Takeru, wider world, massive global restructuring, slower aging for the Warriors of Vale, etc), showing that Dark Dawn had been planned all along. Not only that, but the mystery of the Psynergy Vortexes and the massive one shown at the end of Dark Dawn (coupled with the final text of The End...?) show that there's at least one more Book to the Golden Sun saga.
That make as much sense to anyone else as it did to me?

Recently Nintendo-Gamer interviewed Hiroyuki Takahashi of Camelot Software Planning (http://www.nintendo-gamer.net/2012/06/11/qa-mario-tennis-open/). Here's the relevant excerpt from the article.
Quote
NG: Camelot also made the amazing Golden Sun. Dark Dawn ended on a massive cliffhanger. Any plans to tell us what happens next? Don’t keep us hanging!

HT: I’m very pleased that you enjoyed Dark Dawn. RPGs take a very long time to make and need a lot of effort. As you will appreciate if you have played the game, the number of ideas that went into the story was rather substantial. When writing a story like that for a Golden Sun game, I really feel like I am pouring my soul into it and when I am finished, I always feel really drained. Everyone else working on the project also really devoted themselves to it, treating it like their life’s work. So it really is a huge encouragement to us to get a positive reaction from the people who play the game.

A big reason for us making RPGs comes from the requests from all the people who have enjoyed our RPGs in the past. Perhaps if there are enough Nintendo users asking for another game in the Golden Sun series, then this will naturally lead to the development of such a game.

Speaking personally from the perspective of the story, I think that honestly it may not be so likely because Golden Sun really requires a full effort to be put in. But of course, if there are enough people saying that we really must create another game, then we may just have to listen to them. Still, you would need to give me a bit of time to work on ideas for the story before we could release a fourth game in the series.

In response to this, a group of people took the reins and formed Operation Sunrise (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-Sunrise/371417546251291), a group dedicated to getting the fan input to Camelot for this game to happen.

If you played Dark Dawn, you'd know it was a rather poor excuse for a Golden Sun game; it was easy, you really got moved along places, there were 2 points of no return, etc etc etc. You'd also know that it ended on a cliffhanger with the words "The End?"

You can sign the petition that Operation Sunrise set up here (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/operation-sunrise/).

It already has the backing of Operation Rainfall, which as you know successfully brought Xenoblade and The Last Story to North America (and I think they're getting Pandora's Tower here too, or close to it), so they've got a good ally in their corner.

I just figured that I'd bring it up here, to try to help. :3

Around Dark Dawn's release they were saying that GS and TLA were a mere prologue to a looong, awesometastic series. DD added new plot, new kinds of Psynergy, very nice vision of how the Weyard works, and that dreadful cliffhanger.
Now it's "if >>there are enough people saying that we really must<< then maybe we'll consider another one"?

These days it's hard to believe anyone...
