Title: The "Nippon Ichi Software" Thread
Post by: VixyNyan on December 30, 2008, 12:57:36 AM
Nippon Ichi Software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nippon_Ichi)
They're the creators of fun series like Disgaea, La Pucelle, Phantom Brave, Rhapsody, so on, so on. Cuteness! x3

Talk about their games here.

I'm here to tell everyone, Disgaea 2 will come out for the PSP soon!

It'll come out on March 26, 2009 in Japan.
Just like the first game, an English version might show up later on.
I'm excited about the English one. X3

This is a PDF file with info about the game. (http://www.nippon1.co.jp/news/pdf/2008/20081226.pdf)
You read it with Foxit Reader and stuff. (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/index.php)

So anyone's excited?

AKUTARE. A. KU. TA. RE.

On a side-note, I was super happy to see the male healer units come back in Disgaea 3.

Also, I'm not sure portable versions of games I already have are worth going out to buy new systems...

Well, they are for me, because I bought, like, the Japanese ones for PS2. x3

And the fact that you can play a completely new story with an extra character.
Etna taking over the spot for Laharl on the first game for the PSP. Oh wow, the funny things going on there.

Taking over the main spot for Laharl? Pffft, as if that didn't happen already... :/

Wow, now I have another reason to keep playing my PSP.

...Yeah, I'm fishing for reasons now.

AKUTARE. A. KU. TA. RE.
Yes, yes, but I call him Axel. Besides, he's still awesome enough to get his ass kicked multiple times and not give up!

I do hope they include Prinny commentary in this one. It was a neat little feature in the DS version of Disgaea 1, but the lack of voices most of the time killed some of the charm, IMO. It's just not the same without "Rita" screeching away as Laharl or the Prinnies freaking out.

Hell, i'm more than excited, i loved the first one.

But it's better ?, Disgaea 2 has new classes and/or allows you to personalize even further the members of your party ?, because that was my favorite part.

http://pspupdates.qj.net/Disgaea-2-Portable-won-t-disappoint-more-info-and-new-screenshots/pg/49/aid/127708

NIS America is commenting on the game. "Disgaea 2 Portable will be getting 30% more content than the original PS2 game, including a scene with Axel, the Dark Hero. And if cameos are your thing, then you're gonna get that here as well. Lord Zetta of the Makai Kingdom, Prier from La Pucelle Tactics, and Mid Boss are making appearances for Adell's team."

Disgaea 2 PSP is coming to the states with a new subtitle: Dark Hero Days (http://kotaku.com/5246326/disgaea-2-dark-hero-days-coming-stateside)

Looks interesting.

Juding from the screenshots, it looks like some elements of Disgaea 3 is going to be added to this port.

I for one am very excited. My PSP is going to have the crap played out of it this fall.

Classic Dungeon for the PSP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5ZPTqkUkg0)

You play as this every-day soon-to-become hero called Soma who just explored a cave with his friend Pudding. They later visit an open-field island where they meet the white hair magic girl Deathpina.

It does look like a dungeon crawler at first, but it doesn't lock you to grids at all. It's completely free-roaming and you can also jump and slash with your weapon without any wait in-between attacks. You can at anytime switch between Modern and Retro style music in the Settings.

The humor and visual style of the game is similar to Half Minute Hero and 3D Dot Heroes. Since it's made by Nippon Ichi, it has a bit Disgaea things here and there. The game also has a edit mode similar to 3D Dot Heroes, where you can create any kind of character you like. ^^

The song between 1:15 and 2:14 in the trailer... O^O
The ocarina/flute tunes makes my heart warm and happy~ >oo<
FINALLY, Nippon Ichi makes something besides the same old tired Disgaea drivel. It was starting to get kind of annoying.

Looks like Classic Dungeon is getting translated. ^^;

That said, anyone know when we're getting Cladun?

Maybe those sore spots is where you spank and massage her.
But supposedly you do dungeons too, dating sim/dungeon crawler? Interesting, especially if it comes out here!

We're gonna see them as cameos and playable characters eventually.

What I would like, would be an actual straight sequel to the first Disgaea, instead of games that just feature stuff that follow the characters sideways.

Damn this is looking awesome! I really like the Disgaea series and I plan on getting this one too!
And Dual Wielding!? I don't think it was possible in the previous games, or was it?

I'm liking this a whole lot and cannot wait to get it! Though the main character looks more like a vampire than a demon, but that's alright!
This is going to be an awesome addition to the series!

Oh, and Axel's back.

PS: By the way what's the fastest way to level up early on in Disgaea 3? I'm at Mao's Heart at the end, but I haven't played in a while so I need to go back to that.

It's a rougelike made by NIS, built off of Disgaea's engine with some changes to allow for the new combat system. If you don't know what a rougelike is, think of Izuna, Shiren the Wanderer, or the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games except with crazy stats and nicely polished gameplay.

There's also crossover costumes for you to use, and dungeons specific to other anime series. (Durarara! anyone?)

Here's the known costumes so far, I don't know if there's more or not.

Been playing Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman for... 10 hours plus.

I have to say, this is the sexiest game I have played in a long time. It has the best of the best of the rougelike games I have ever played. I finally feel like I have a fun game that allows me to put my old Azura Dreams game to rest.

The armor, the weapons, the style, it is all wonderful! They even have interesting boss fights. It really mixes up the rougelike style. Yes you can grind like the old games, but some levels have puzzle like elements that make it a lot more interesting and sometimes annoying. >w<

I love this game, I have banished Ares to playing Fallout New Vegas on the PC while I play this.

I really love this game. I have liked all the NIS games I have tried, but this is a lot more up my ally. The other games seem to take longer, I don't know, SRPGs can loose my interest when you grind to level up. I know I will be playing this game for a long time to come.

Oh and I haven't died yet. 8)

You haven't died once in 10 hours? I feel like I must suck at the game now...

Then again I keep dying thanks to the Baccano! dungeon...

Hah well if it makes you feel better, I died soon after that post.

And have died three times since.  :|

I found my downfall to be the traps. I HATE THE TRAPS!

But still a cool game. 8)

I feel sooooo bad for the main character. Every chapter makes me think he'd be more and more depressed.

Oh and I'm like level 500+  ;)

Yeah, my base level is 512 or something now. I was running around in Firo's outfit from Baccano! with a Laser Blade, Frilly dress, and a shotgun (backup weapon in pouch) in hopes of clearing the Toradora dungeon. It's a rather easy dungeon, but I somehow died from a random enemy attack that happened to kill me since I had a low amount of health. (Every other enemy did 0 damage...)

I lost everything... I didn't get to salvage the items I wanted because, well, they were equipped. Everything else was potions or meat.

;_; I'm currently on chapter 6, I think... Maybe 7? I forget. I just beat the
train boss.
Yeah I'm about where you are. The game rips at your soul. If you wear the good armor, you might life through the dungeon, but if you do and die, you loose it all. GAH. It's a game that when I die, I save, and have to put it down for a little while. -u-'

Of course, I always pick it back up. So addicting. -_-

Ahh, I just got the first ending. My total level was 904, and I unlocked Horo, Firo, Taiga, and Celty's costumes.
I'm on my first New Game+ now... Well, actually my second because I got the first alternate ending when (spoilered only for the method)
you beat the 8-bit boss battle
right away on your second playthrough.

Also, try talking to the Prinny at the bottom of your base 10-20 times really fast with your message speed set to the maximum. If you do it right you unlock some costumes. (Not kidding, I thought it was a troll until I actually tried it and it worked...)

Now to playthrough again, and get all the alternate endings and beat the mastery dungeons! This game rocks~

Take Control of an Undead Soldier in Nippon Ichi's New PS3 Action RPG
Lots of new details on The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers.

7hr 6m ago / Anoop Gantayat

Sokuho has provided a detailed summary of Dengeki PlayStation's reveal article for Nippon Ichi's new PS3 title The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers, filling in some of the blanks from our earlier report.

First up, some clarification about the characters. As we reported earlier, the main character is a witch named Metallica. You don't control her, though. You control a soldier named "Hyakkihei," a name that translates to Hundred Cavalryman or Soldiers. The Hyakkihei is actually one of 100 Hyakkihei soldiers. Metallica can only physically summon the one, though. The others are used for only brief periods -- see below for details.

The story of The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is set in a forest where a war is being fought between the beautiful marsh witch and the ugly forest witch. One day, the marsh witch finds the legendary Hiyakkihei, and summons it into battle.

The marsh witch is Metallica, the title witch (she's also the character that Nippon Ichi showed when teasing the game at an Akihabara event a month back). She hopes to get rid of her long time rival, the forest witch, and fill the world with marshland.

The Hyakkihei soldier has a small frame but wields a large sword. It has great power but has lost most of its ability to cast magic. It's also lost the notion of morality and will do brutal things in battle. It seems that it does not fully accept Metallica as its master.

Developed by the Prinny team, The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is an action RPG that's played from an overhead perspective. Set in an expansive and seamlessly connected world, you'll face off against enemies directly in hack-and-slash style gameplay.

Dengeki details five gameplay systems:

GIGAcal
Metallica must use magic power to call out the Hyakkihei soldier. When this depletes, you restore it by eating, intaking GIGAcal (hint... the "cal" probably is meant to be like calories).
Field
Your base of operations is Metallica's house. Leave the house, and a massive world will expand around you. Its full of enemies and gimmicks that must be solved. You can expand the world by wiping the darkness from areas that are engulfed in darkness, although it appears that this requires a considerable amount of GIGAcal.
Call Upon the Other Hyakkihei Soldiers
You can call upon the 99 other Hyakkihei soldiers for brief periods. One example is Tochika, which sends out slime-like creatures into the surroundings.
Subquests
Take on quests from residents. You can also refuse requests and can even attack residents if you feel like it.
Boss Battles, Special Attacks
You'll face off against giant bosses, making use of a variety of special attacks, some associated with particular Hyakkihei soldiers.

Nippon Ichi CEO Shohei Shinkawa mentioned a number of additional points in an interview with the magazine.

    * They're aiming for a refreshing, smooth action feel. They're also aiming to balance the game so its difficulty isn't too high.
    * The game is stage based, although once you've cleared a stage you can go back to it and find paths to new stages.
    * Once you've exited Metallica's home, you can't return back until you've reached a save point. If you die along the way, you'll lose the items that you've collected (this appears to be where the earlier reports of dungeon crawler elements came from)
    * The Hyakkihei soldier is undead, so there is no game over.
    * Using the 99 other Hyakkihei soldiers is a key to strategy.
    * The game's world is seamless -- there's no loading even when going into a town.
    * The world residents have tribe-level parameters. If one particular tribe hates you, they will treat you like an enemy.
    * The game's main story will have a play time of around 30 hours. This does not include sub quests and other elements.
    * There will be item collection and item synthesis components.
    * The main Hyakkihei soldier is meant to be the player's in-game self, so he won't talk. In terms of story, Metallica is the central figure.
    * The game's monsters are being designed by the Prinny development staff.
    * They're considering releasing download content.

The Witch and the Hundred Soldiers is due for release in Spring 2012. It will be released in standard and limited forms. The limited version includes a visual book, a soundtrack CD, and a Metallica Nendoroid Puchi figure with removable hat.
Witch named Metallica, who wars with another witch for world domination in a hack and slash game? Sounds [tornado fang]ing AWESOME.

After trying hard to find a copy of Disgaea 4 to buy (where I live, and that is Poland) and having no luck with my quest.
I encountered Disgaea 3 on my way.
It's the original ps3 version, not the VITA one (since I do not own a VITA and never will be) so...

Is it worth buying? Or should I not even bother? I heard mixed things about this ones gameplay.
ANY OPINIONS?

So Etna gets little to no changes while Laharl's shorts grow into pants and Flonne gets a ribbon for one of her legs.. Whu? Then that means D2 must be either a direct sequel or a remake of the first game, but I liked the cartoony look the characters originally had, now they sorta lost that charm.

It's more of a taste kind of thing, actually, since I actually preferred their original looks (they kinda grew on me) and what would be the point of changing their appearances if it weren't an actual direct sequel and turned out to be another remake, only this time for the Vita? It's like trying to compete with the Ys and Lunar series with how many times a game can be remade.

Really? Aside from the hue (the black suit kinda gave off a blue-ish hue depending on the lighting, now it comes off green-ish), doesn't look like the poster-girl of the series has changed much.

Speaking of which, I'd think it' be a good idea to have an in-game explanation of the sudden wardrobe change. Otherwise it would probably be more "sonic has green eyes/spyro looks hideous/trigger getting new look before game getting canned" arguments  (more like an art direction based argument if you ask me) before Laharl getting pants, although the former arguments are about more well-known characters and their appearances.

I'm reviving this thread to bring attention to a couple of NIS Steam ports that have been released in the past and an upcoming port.

As many of you already know Disgaea 1 was released on Steam during February based on the PSP but has just gotten the DS exclusive content, or at the very least the characters but since the update went live just today the details are a bit vague still, and Phantom Brave was stealth released last Month again based on the updated re release.

However now it's been confirmed that Disgaea 2 is getting ported to Steam and will be released on January 30th 2017.

http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/23/12606228/disgaea-2-steam-mac-pc-release-date (http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/23/12606228/disgaea-2-steam-mac-pc-release-date)

It will feature content from both ports as well as 3 characters that were previously exclusive to the Japanese version.

EDIT: That being said due to the current update for Disgaea 1 there is currently a Sound Glitch that needs to be fixed.

There is a demo for Phantom Brave too if anyone wants to try it out before buying it. The port so far seems pretty good; visuals are great in high resolutions though I'd turn off the sprite filter since it makes the sprites look muddy, haven't tried to much with keyboard and mouse but it's there and you can customize your configuration for keyboard and controller (controller prompts could be better but I'm nitpicking), and you can chose between the low-res or high-res UI, but there is a problem with the volume as it's super low hardly hear anything, even when turned up all the way. I also notice that you can see the geometry and lines of the 3D landscape. I hope they fix the low volume and possibly the visible geometry in Phantom Brave PC soon.
