Title: Interview with Capcom Legend TOM-PON!
Post by: VixyNyan on August 31, 2011, 12:59:48 AM
TOM-PON (Naoya Tomita) is a Capcom employee that has been with Capcom way back in the late 80s, where he worked as an artist and designer on a couple of classic Capcom games, including Rockman games, starting with the very first game in the series. A few games to mention he worked on was Rockman, Rockman 2 and Final Fight, among others.

Rockman Unity (http://rockman-unity.daletto.com/unity/)'s own Rockman guru Ucchy took the time to have a video interview with TOM-PON back in March, where he asks things like who came up with the original design for Rockman and what is TOM-PON's favorite stage, and other things.

GregaMan at Capcom Unity took the time to translate the interview and uploading the videos to the Unity account on Youtube. To see the translation, make sure the CC button is activated on the video player. If it isn't showing up, go to the youtube page where the videos are showing up.

Any chance of transcript? I don't really enjoy watching other people talk unless it's scripted.

It is transcripted. There is CC translation available.

You have to go to the page of each video to see it if you can't see it here. o.o;

Those are more like subtitles, I'm after something I can read at my leisure while listening to music

Mute sound and play or pause and scroll through. Shouldn't be that hard.

I don't mean to come across as impatient... just couldn't think of any way to ask other than directly.

Updated with Part 4. This one focuses on stage designs, and a specific boss design. 8D

Ahhh, the Mecha Dragon. Always such a curious fable in the gaming industry. The beast itself was a background layer, and since that section is an auto-scrolling part of the game, I can tell this was no easy feat. And since it's a pitch-black room, I could tell that they simply used Yellow Devil, another boss, And cut the LEFT side of the section off and use that as a hit box, then made the blocks the objects for Rockman to stand on. They were also able to get it to have a "bobbing" motion as if it's flying across the room. Neat!
