http://www.gofanboy.com/go-fanboy-news/2363-square-enix-bringing-valkyrie-profile-sequel-to-xbox-360-and-more
For talk about the Valkyrie Profile sequel, use the other thread (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=3988) instead.
The second game is a Breath of Fire compilation consisting of the first two SNES titles with updated graphics and modern HD cut-scenes added in. The limited information we were given leads us to believe that outside of the visuals and FMV, these are basically straight ports on a single disc. Again, the franchise started on Nintendo consoles and made the jump to the Sony brand. We can't see any reason the compilation couldn't make the leap to Wii and PS3 unless of course Microsoft pulled out the check book. It could also come down to who's getting paid since Square originally owned ONLY the North American rights to Breath of Fire I, while Capcom owns the franchise as a whole.
While we're all fanboys at heart, I think I speak for everyone when I say we hope these don't stay exclusive. Based on Star Ocean, we're likely looking at a time-exclusive for Xbox 360 since tri-Ace is experienced on both consoles. The Breath of Fire comp-disc isn't exactly going to be pushing any hardware limits if it does turn out to just be a port with visual upgrades, so the Wii should get some love too.

That sounds interresting for me. With an HD remake, there is the chance that the gameplay might get revamped. Say Hello to BOF3 and 4 gameplay
-
A BoF3 remake might be cool too. With sprites similar to those they used in the credits.

Or the ending, in the desert. C: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJHNfFWwrkY#t=4m3s)

And here I was worried that everyone else would only care about the VP sequel...
It doesn't seem terribly likely that MS would pay to get BoF as a 360 exclusive, so I have hopes for it being on the Wii fastly.
-
I share your hopes.
-
Sadly, the only VP game I've played is the DS one... and once I get my external I'll get the original for sure. As for this, I used to have the original two. Didn't really like them back then. Recently, I decided to try them out again, and they're pretty fun!
But the fact that these are 360-only for the time being? That sucks.
I'll have to convince the Sky Fish to get this!
-
Definitely keeping my eye on this one, since the first two BoFs are the only ones I managed to play. Should really get around to 3 at the very least when I can.
-
Get the PSP version.
You won't regret it.

GoFanboy? ... 8D
When a more reputable source of news arises, then maybe I'll take notice. But GoFanboy is just another faceless blog that was crafted like a month or so ago. It doesn't even have HipHopGamer's level of "credibility". 8D

Don't kill my dreams!
-
It had better be true...
Rumor has spread like wildfire already, all of them ultimately linking that gofanboys report. I helped!
-
I do hope this is true, Mostly because I wanna reown this two games.
Plus it be nice to see how the games would look like in HD.
Heres hoping it isn't a 360 exclusive.

The world needs more BoF

The world needs more BoF
^ Quoted for truth! Bring us our BoF Capcom!!

Don't kill my dreams!
You should be telling that to these no name blogs like GoFanboy. Again, a blog created a mere 4 months ago should not be trusted as a worthwhile source. They're only doing [parasitic bomb] like this for hits. And the more you help spread this stuff spread around, the more you're only helping them. 8D

Then again, maybe Capcom will take a hint from the attention the article is getting...
-
A new Breath of Fire is finally coming after we as fans have waited for years to happen~
And the latest one happens to come out for.... PC, smart phones and tablets. 8D (http://www.bof6.jp/pc/)

Y-yaaaaay? o-O
I have to agree with PervyMan Blues. I'm not quite convinced, that this is official. :\
-
nope, this is (sadly) official
and just another example in a long line of examples that capcom does not know how to treat their franchises properly.
-
So it's either not going to see the day of light, or it ends up being a shitty game, one way or another.
-
pretty sure it's seeing the light of day
but it will be shitty
-
pretty sure it's seeing the light of day
but it will be shitty
That's retarded.
Why would you think that before it's even released?
We didn't even get any gameplay yet, and you already complain.
That is to say, the music on the site is nice.
-
just the style of game it is, that's all
i mean, if i'm wrong, then i'm wrong
i'm just not expecting much
-
The music IS nice.. But, I kinda hope this red-haired guy isn't the Ryu (unless he's, like, some sorta origin of the Dragons or something). Doesn't seem to be a raw reboot, so who knows?
-
it's also an online touch RPG, with heavy social elements
:\
-
Really wished that BoF III and IV gets re-released for today's consoles. But if they're gonna re-release I and II as well, they need Watercrown Productions to handle the localization.
I'll reserve my judgment on 6 until more about this surface but I hope it won't be a letdown like Dragon's Quarter.
-
Well, not all that hopeful but... guess we'll see how it turns out.

Online?
PC-tablets-smartphones only?
Built for touch-control?
Probably no port?
Red hair?!?
I hate everything.

Here's some pictures. It really does look a lot like Maple Story...
-

Given that most of Capcom's other recent mobile games seem to have had very little effort put into them...
Also, this may just be because I'm only vaguely acquainted with BoF, but those designs don't look too BoF-y to me. And where the heck are Ryu and Nina? :/
-
The only BoF thing about this is the name.

This is pretty much my reasoning exactly. I've seen others on other sites be happy about this, but only cause they see BREATH OF FIRE and PC together. They don't realize the true nature of this "game"
And that nature seems to go against everything that is Breath of Fire.
-
My guess is that it's probably going to be a really basic 'create a character' thing, meet characters from the series paradoxically (or get power-ups / cards with them instead), customize the character, grind a lot, and occasionally fight alongside or trade stuff with friends. No care for lore, no damns given for animation, just excellent musical compositions and a likely 'bleh' grindathon otherwise. I gander cards from this because Capcom has a habit of involving cards in these types of games lately, if that Onimusha game and X-Over are anything to go by.
-
Ech.

> Capcom in charge of franchise decisions

I hope it won't be a letdown like Dragon's Quarter.
First off, it's Dragon Quarter, not Dragon's Quarter.
Secondly, Dragon Quarter was great, a gem way ahead of its time despite its flaws.
I'm in the process of playing the rest of the series (going backwards), right now I'm on the last one (or rather, the first one: BoFI). Despite just starting BoFI, I can confidently say that Dragon Quarter is waaay better than the rest of the series. Seriously, take off those nostalgia goggles.
EDIT: Yep, those games did not age well. I fail to see how people can be so sentimental towards the first four entries to the point of blindly hating five, when the first four are plagued with ridiculously frequent random encounters, basic combat strategies, terrible terrible conveyance, and plots filled with contrived asinine filler sub-plots. Seriously, if not for FAQs, emulation speed ups and save-states*, the games would be unbearable to play.
To be fair, the first four games aren't bad. But they aren't really good either, just "okay", run-of-the-mill, generic, mediocre. But with anthromorphism.
*not because the game is hard, but to save time e.g. trial-and-error pitfalls in dungeon which force at least 5~10 encounters just to get back to where you were? no thanks
-
Personally, the third game was my favorite of the series. It's cliche, but simultaneously a bit.. Unique, what with seeing Ryu's development over the course of the story alongside the rest of the cast. But trying to go back and play the second game, or even the first, is just an exercise in frustration for me. "Oh, now that the prologue in Breath of Fire 2 is done, it's time for you to head to your first dungeon! Oh by the way, you have to grind to level 10 in your first small section of overworld to even consider surviving in it!"
The SNES games are just a bit too old-school hard for me, I admit it. :\
