Title: So...MMKB.
Post by: The Great Gonzo on February 26, 2010, 01:55:44 PM
I'm just curious--how much of that wiki is fanon? Is it actual fanon, or is its being user-submitted automatically invalidate it no matter how accurate the info is?

Complete and utterly fanon unless you have evidence that a specific part isn't. And if you have that evidence you shouldn't be relying on MMKB in the first place. Just rely on the evidence itself.

Sadly, MMKB is one of the worst and most unorganized wikis I've ever seen. Then again, it can't be all as good as Wookieepedia, right?

Which MM info site can you actually trust?

NEVER, EVER trust any MegaMan info source that is open to editing by the general public.  Period.

You know, Zan, you, Hypershell, Vixy, and others could go in and "fix" MMKB, or at least cite sources.

I find it sad that there exists an actual Megaman fanon wiki (http://megamanfanon.wikia.com/wiki/Mega_Man_Fanon_Wiki), yet MMKB is the one with all the theories. (Light AND Wily creating Megaman, Roll, and Protoman? Unless I'm forgetting something...no)

There are several.  I made an edit on a Wikia Megaman wiki a couple nights ago.

Isn't that what the RPM wiki (http://rockmanpm.wikispaces.com/) is for... 8D

Which reminds me, I need to update more books again one day. One day.

Miyabi has a good point.  I mean, if this MMKB Wiki sucks, why not pool our resources and continue to spruce up our Rockman Perfect Wikories.

Title: Why does everyone hate MMKB so much?
Post by: CyberXIII on March 28, 2010, 10:49:22 PM
Honestly, it's one of the best resources I've seen since Planet Megaman died awhile back.  Why, therefore, does everyone hate it with a passion comparable to those who hate Twilight?

It might be some information is inaccurate? Maybe they did something that some people didn't like? Honestly, there could be several reasons.
It's like "Everyone hate's Quint" topic. It's not that everyone hates him , no infact some people really like him. Everyone has there own opinion about it/them/that/him/her/they etc.

Honestly, I think MMKB is one of the best resources since Planet Megaman died a few years back.  The forum's full of idiots, sure, but most of the articles really aren't that bad.

And the theories are just in the trivia sections where they belong.  The way the above posters said it you'd think they were part of the articles themselves...

Its that there are many inaccuracies and discrepancies. recently it's gotten better for sure, but there is still conjecture, and fanon. (as well as contradictions)

Why not?

I can understand the objections to placing specific dates for events, but hey, it's fun to try to figure out the exact timeline even when you're not supposed to.  I see no harm in it.

I don't hate MMKB.  However, I do see areas that need improvement.  The few times I've gone there, I corrected grammar and spelling.  Poor sentence structure runs rampant there.  Some articles also lack links to relevant related articles.  There is also fanon, according to others, and most articles that I've seen lack citations.  The categorization seems a bit lax, and the article format could be much better.  The usage of present tense in articles is also a bit informal.  The prose is also chock full of POV.  I mean, just because one user thinks that Blaze Heatnix is "extremely difficult" doesn't mean everyone else will.

But, as was said in the other topic, to which I am going to merge this afterward, not every wiki can be Wookieepedia.

Though, taking a page or two from our Manual of Style certainly would help.  It just takes people who are willing to put in the hard work to make sure that everything is sourced, spelled properly, and is free of fanon.  Sadly, it seems that the MMKB just isn't willing to do that.

Nor should they. Heatnix is pathetic.

Oh lol...  I hop onto Wookieepedia and see that I have a message on my talk page on MMKB.  They want to make me an admin there because I know my way around a wiki.

I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.

Should I do it?

Sadly, I don't think they do.  My edits there were grammar, spelling, and some formatting.  That was all.  I didn't do anything major, but that's apparently plenty enough for them.  They apparently can't even do that.

Wow, my old English teacher must post there then... lol. Seriously though, that's kinda sad and hilarious at the same time...

I'm sticking with Rockman Perfect Wikories here... open our own and they'll be all like, "WUT/ I DONT LIEK GET IT WE ASKD BUT GOT NUTHIN BAK,"

Actually, lemme clarify what the MMKB has offered: sysop.  I'd have the power to protect pages, block/ban people, rollback edits, and destroy entire articles and media pages.

They apparently think I'm sysop material.  I guess they've seen the work I've done on Wookieepedia, because the grammar edits I've made on the MMKB certainly don't scream sysop material.

If you do accept, you could try sourcing all of the unsourced stuff. For some reason, much of the Megaman community is sourcephobic.

I believe that Zan would rather declare the Catacylsm story canon before starting to work on the MMKB again.
