Title: Neon Genesis Evangelion/Rebuild of Evangelion *SPOILERS*
Post by: Police Girl on January 16, 2010, 09:03:08 PM
This hasn't had its own thread? Anyway, Discuss, complain, Rant about the Anime, Movies, Rebuild, etc.

EDIT: Fixed the Title as this thread is chock full of Spoilers and not pertaining to the anime exclusively.

Which ending? Theres currently Two, unless you mean both.

Well, there's alot of fun issues on that ending...most of which are explained in the 42985749857234983 books provided to explain the background of Eva, or the interviews from the N64 game IIRC.

Whatever the case, I love this scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_1XZ2K2fEE)

I can't wait to see 2.0's rendition of that whenever it comes to NA theatres~

Well, the basic counter-plan is the same, but appearance is totally remixed, plus new attacks and forms.

After watching Eva 2.0 (In really shitty quality, looks like somebody recorded it out of a theater or something.) The battle is mostly the same. The Appearance of the angel is kinda wierd at first (Like some sort of prismatic sphere that turns into its normal form, except still prismatic.) And of course its mostly CGI and looks kinda strange. but thats just the shitty record quality.

But if theres one awesome thing in Eva 2.0 (And theres a LOT.) you have to see the whole battle between The Eva's and that one angel in the original series that incapacitates Units 02 and 00 and makes 01 go 400% Sync Ratio. (I forgot its name, I think its 14th in the Anime.) The whole battle is just awesome.

It's Zeruel.
And true, though that battle is completely different, but awesome nonetheless.
[spoiler]Plus after eating Rei... Oh boy Reiruel.[/spoiler]

Well, at least the cam version has the preview and extended ending after the credits.
The one I saw at the cinema cut those out. >_>

Well, even though the main fight is a ton different, the beginning part is the same (Zeruel breaking into NERV and Eva 01 Stopping it from blowing up the MAGI. Eva 01 Losing its arm and blood all over Gendo's right side, Shinjis insane face before losing power.).

[spoiler]Still, Zeruel was a [tornado fang]ing fortress in this version. It took the power of the Evangelion Changing its Neon Green to Blood Red to destroy it.[/spoiler]

Also
[spoiler]ZA BEAST! Sucks that Eva 02 Might actually be done for this time.[/spoiler]

(Don't read the spoilers unless you watched Eva 2.0, seriously.)

[spoiler]Agreed, they fixed it in the original series anyway. Even if it went Beast Mode it should still be able to be returned to its old self.[/spoiler]

Augh so many spoilers gotta' get around to 2.0.

I've decided I like both (anime and movie) endings. After a while, the anime ending made me cry a little with how strangely happy it is. It's just a shame now that looking back, I've decided that the anime gets gradually more and more annoying, with alot less comedy then there was when it initially started to balance everything out - everything suddenly depends on how you interpret it. Just more effort to watch really :T

  I will ask one question though;

Is the addition of that new Mari character in anyway to the benefit of the plot? Or has she just sorta' been cellotaped in.
Title: Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Post by: Police Girl on January 23, 2010, 01:56:22 AM
She fits into the plot quite well, and shes definetly a good character. I mean, its not like they just said "Ok, we're going to have the story EXACTLY the same, oh and just add this new character in for good measure." Of course whats really funny is the beginning of the movie has quite a bit of english in it (As in, most of the people speak english.) Hell, Mari even speaks English a bit.

I like trhis show especially with all the  o-O  o-O  o-O that goes on in the series. I wish I could see Mari in action to see what all the fuss is all about, can anyone post that video?

You can find a cam-recorded version.
Or wait a few more months for the DVD.

Hi! Can I ask something? I never watched this series, but heard that a lot of people watched it. Is it worth it? I know I could read some description on the net but I'm more for personal comments. Is it interesting?

Personally, watch if if you have time to spare.
It will get deep, plus all the biblical references and human "evolution", it's gonna take a while to get and sink in.

Though, it is interesting to me once you get it. XD

I'm wondering what they're going to do for the ending of the Rebuild series. I Personally loved End of Evangelion, I don't know if they'll be able to top it.

Posted on: February 13, 2010, 09:47:46 PM
Evangelion 1.11 is coming out soon, who's getting it? And I believe 2.22 is coming out in Japan, with an english release more than likely sometime later in the year.

Posted on: February 24, 2010, 05:42:34 PM
Evangelion 2.22: You can (Not) Advance: Release date, May 24, 2010.

Also, Blu-Ray version of the Series on its way as well. Might want to look out for that.

I was still lost, but I did my research on it and it all makes perfect since, now the next question is, were can I buy 2.2? Since I can get 1.1 on Amazon but not 2.2.

You mean 1.01, there is no 2.2 (Or 2.02 for that matter.), they skipped right to 2.22, but I think they might make a 2.222, because I've been hearing about audio issues on the Blu-Ray version. First Video issues on 1.01, now Audio issues on 2.22... next it'll be both combined for 3.33...

Just thought I'd update this.

Apparently Eva 2.22 is going to cost a fuckload to license. And Funi hasn't even been offered it yet. :(

Real damn shame, seeing as it won't be out this year at all probably. And of course nobody seems to give a flying [tornado fang] about Death&Rebirth/End of Evangelion. Those are still in limbo.

I'll get my copy of 2.22 at the AnimagiC two weeks from now. Though I'm not sure if I should get DVD (since it's steelbook) or Blu-ray (since 1.11 only comes out on Blu-ray, while 1.01 was a DVD Steelbook release).

Well, you could get the UK version from Manga Entertainment. Has an interesting audio commentary on it.

I haven't seen it yet, mainly because I enjoyed seeing 1.0 in theatres and that has been a success (two theatres I know in Canada were packed for it, and the one I went to is no exception).  So, i'm waiting for 2.0 to be in theatres.

I got the shitty US version from Manga, it has "humorous" commentary by the producers of the dub. The audio is too quiet at times (Asuka's "I don't want to die", Shinji at the beginning, Gendo.) And finally, the video is locked in Letterbox and really really shitty.

That was the rumor...

But then again, 2.0 was supposed to be out in 08 and not 09.

Also, Apparently Gainax and Studio Khara are having some sort of issue, since Anno is pissed at Gainax for doing something they shouldn't have. and is trying to split them up.

It wouldn't be a mess up for Anno and Khara, just for GAINAX. Losing Evangelion would possibly mean losing any business they have left.

[tornado fang]ing Figures. Funi didn't take any [tornado fang]ing initiative when trying to get Eva 2.22, they waited for it to be handed to them.
And of course they are going to take forever to get the dub out. I understand dubbing takes a while and they have other properties to handle. But god damnit you think they would try to get one of the most popular Evangelion releases before every fan and their cousin had an imported copy of 2.22.

At least its no 3 year wait like waiting for 1.01 was.

Oh, apparently Funi is going the same route with 1.0 for 2.0, As in it'll have a theatrical release. Probably only in Canada and two theaters in California like last time...

Which means another thing I would've loved to see in theaters lost to me. I [tornado fang]ing hate Wisconsin.

So I watched it, because it's screening at our town, and;

[spoiler]The plot is basically; "Rei Ayanami wants to have a dinner with her friends. Can she pull it off?"

Or at least that's what I would've liked. Anyway. MARI! Oh my god. A pilot that doesn't seem to be plagued with horrible personality problems, enjoys her job, and is actually freakin' good at it. It's a shame she wasn't around more to show the others what real pilots can do. That being said, there was nothing wrong with her role in regards to the other pilots. I thoroughly enjoyed her presence. The only thing that could possibly make her better is if she was given an english accent in the dub.  :V

Other highlights for me included;

-Yeah. Rei wants to have dinner with her friends. Tehe. And,
-That sequence where Gendou was reminded of Yui when Rei asked him.
-Every fight scene,
-Especially that first one when Mt. Fuji was briefly in the background. w00t Japan.
-The new angels, like the first one, were cool.
-The music,
-Like the track used when they were showing those few shots of 'normal life' in Tokyo-3.
-The scene where the Dummy Plug system kills Unit-03. I didn't think it would be pulled off with that music over the top of it, but I was wrong. It was very moving, whilst still being disturbing, like the original.
-The fact that the climax of the story was basically Shinji 'saving' Rei like that. Awesome.
-Oh, and the bit where they went to the artificial ocean.

So yeah. Loved it! And I'm looking forward to being able to see it several more times with other people.[/spoiler]

It's pretty easy to see how they'd get that impression though. Think I read somewhere that Mari is like, one of the few characters not actually based on Anno's psyche, or something, if they'd ever need to back up their claim.

Title: Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion/Rebuild of Evangelion *SPOILERS*

I frankly have a theory on Evangelion.

It's a story about Shinji, who is a complete and total pussy. He's gotta save the world. But as pussies don't save the world, he just fucks up things more and more. And history repeats itself, Groundhog Day-style, until he gets the balls to save the world properly.

In Rebuild, he's finally getting those balls. Not only that, but he's facing his fate like a man. After watching Eva for a big while all these years since it came out, and all the times I've watched it, got a bad taste in my mouth because of the ending, seeing the story rebuild itself into what I hope to be a good ending makes me happier than I could ever imagine.

(that, and from Kaworu's reaction, he seems to be aware of the whole thing. Heck, the "this time" thing makes me think he's directly aware of how many times the Eva story has been told)

Yeah, aside from small things that EoE has, it's possible that it could be the 'reset' scenario.

Just a few more days till my BD copy of 2.22 comes in the mail<3, look forward to the dub.  Dub's damn rock solid in 1.0~

Actually, the video has a translation that hints at some big plot twist.

to quote: "Shinji Ikari awakens; beside stands a mysterious boy; then, a new world awaits him."

They're probably referring to Kaworu.

For the whole time, I was thinking that Q and ? will be released together. Oh, whatever. We have release dates, a title, and a confirmation of 2 separate movies instead of 1 longer final. That's all I need.

That was the original plan, I guess they decided it was better if we got two full length films to better tell the story. I'm perfectly fine with that.

I have absolutely nothing against two glorious movies instead of "one". It just means more waiting, and I'm rather impatient. In fact, it's only a good thing. Maybe we'll see some characters' backstory & development *looks at Mari*

Her mech was devoured by mass produced evas (which was mentally linked to her, BTW).. how was Asuka even able to survive that in the first place? Resurrection from Limbo? But now she's twice the pissy as ever.

Gaia, Eva Series was in EoE, not in 2.0

It seems it's a helmet for her adventures in space. But why use a helmet? She's perfectly safe in the Plug. She doesn't even breathe air. Oh whatever, who cares for a reason for the Space Pirate Asuka's cat helmet :D
As for the source, it's straight from Studio Khara (http://www.khara.co.jp).

Do any of you guys think I should start watching these new movies? I [tornado fang]ing love the soundtracks from them, so I'm a bit interesed in picking them up but:

Since I didn't finish the original series (I gave up a bit more than half-way), and I can't even remember what the [tornado fang] happened exactly in those episodes, should I actually bother with these new movies?

I'm willing to pick those movies up, also because I want to see if I can actually enjoy Evangelion or not. Because honestly after those few years, my hate for it has died down.

Yes, watch the new movies.

1.11 is a great update to Episodes 1-6 with minor adjustments, and it looks [tornado fang]ing beautiful.

2.22 takes episodes 8-19 (Jet Alone is skipped because lolfiller) and puts a completely new spin on them, the battles are fluid, beautiful, and enjoyable, the psychological LOLDEEP is pretty much removed, and you are treated to a wonderful [tornado fang]ing cliffhanger.

3.0 is (I assume) going to be 20-23, we don't know much of course but it's going to be out in the Fall, with a Home release probably in the Winter or early spring of 2013, as it was with 2.22.

Nobody knows anything on final, it says 2013 but with how this series has been I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 2015 or later.

No prior knowledge of the TV series is required, the mindfuck is just about the same.

Yeah, but I need to see 2.0 as Asuka herself maybe a potential plothole as to how she managed to survive being mercelessly eaten alive... I've seen the series, but not the films. Oh lawd, this might need to be fixed or something when the film is released.

ABSOLUTELY.

The movies improved so much from the dog [parasitic bomb] that was NGE. 1.11 and 2.22 were phenomenal "make overs" of the series, and altered certain events. As RMZX said, they are very fluid and beautiful. Actually, I can't really think of an anime on the top of my head that is superior from a visual standpoint (barring Kara no Kyoukai). Shinji isn't as annoying either, in my opinion.

Here is a quick example of one of the fantastic action sequences:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0PFuz5tJQ8&feature=related[/youtube]

And a word of warning, do not watch the related videos on the page, it mostly consists of HEAVY spoilers. It's best to experience the rest of the fighting scenes when you go through the movies naturally.

I enjoyed the original Eva however i love theses reboots such a major improvement over everyone. Shinji is more respectable especially in the 2nd, Rei actually has emotion [ subtle but there ] before it felt like she was just a doll for most of the time.

However i agree with Karai  watch the original series and movies first to get the full enjoyment,  when the new films begin to take a new turn you'll be in a "oh [parasitic bomb]!" mood wondering now that this happened instead whats going to happen now?

Also theres a theory floating around that this might not just be a simple reboot but a continuation of sorts there are somethings that carried over from the previous films and it makes it seem like they're stuck in some kind of cycle. If the the theory is true this "cycle" might be the last one since its such a big departure from the others and hopefully the story will come to a proper close.

Anyway ,  definitely give the watch the og series and films.   Best example i can give is Star Trek, with the reboot you feel the impact of the changes a lot more if you at least saw the first few movies of the original.

btw, the official site has a nice picture of a piano. (http://www.evangelion.co.jp/) I think it's safe to assume it'll have lots of classical masterpieces playing in the background. Or one, but really long.

First, nice double post.

Second, but they're not.
If you watched more than one episode you would know that.

You didn't even give it a chance, the first 6 episodes are required viewing, if one doesn't like the show after those then they don't need to watch anymore.

I'm not sure what just I walked into, but I'll just say the movies are a lot better than the anime. I almost strangled myself sitting through the Human Instrumentality Project at the end. 1.0 was massively condensed, making it more tolerable. And really, I felt the general plot wasn't too bad. It's just the execution and pacing of the series was absolutely horrendous.

2.0 was overrated, now that I think about it. I was so fascinated by the insane action sequences, that I didn't notice the movie itself was more-or-less stale.

Well I might as well just get my name changed to that then. :|

Once a new release date has been decided we will announce this information on our website http://www.funimation.com/. Evangelion: 3.0 hits theaters beginning January 10, 2014. To look for a theater in your area please refer to: http://www.elevenarts.net/evangelion3.theater.html

[tornado fang] you, Funimation. Overwhelming theatrical Demand? You mean how it'll play in like 17 states in like 1 city in states not called California, New York, Texas, or Hawaii for one [tornado fang]ing day?

Yeah, totally needed to delay the BD release for the rest of the country for that. Great [tornado fang]ing plan.

Wow, a little less than a year since this was last posted in.

Anyway, news.
Khara is releasing the original Anime and the original movies next summer on DVD and Blu-Ray, Just in time for the show to no longer take place in the future! (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-12-01/evangelion-gets-new-japanese-blu-ray-dvd-boxes/.81620)

The sets also Differ, the Blu-ray will be the Renewal version of the series (Along with the directors cut episodes), along with the original version of Death and Rebirth (The version normally released on Video is Death(true)2) and End of Eva, alongside the complete Revival edition of both movies (which is Death(true)2 with EoE replacing Rebirth.)

The DVD box will be the broadcast version of the series and will also include Death(true), which was originally shown on TV way back when in Japan.

So basically, its precedent for a new US release once somebody gets their hands on it.

Oh, and no 3.33 here yet. Of course. Here's Funimation's official comment on the matter.

We are working directly with the Japanese studio and the original creator on the upcoming Evangelion 3.33 home video release. This is a unique opportunity that presented itself to us, and since the plot for Evangelion 3.33 is so different from previous story lines, we are thrilled that the creator has asked to be so heavily involved in this project. Studio Khara has even decided that they would like to create their own special subtitle tracks for the release! We thank you for your continued patience as we work to confirm a release date. Please keep an eye on our social channels and our website for more updates!

Basically, they're trying to spin it as a "Unique opportunity" when its basically just "Khara didn't like how we dubbed it, so they're going to involve themselves in this because chances are if we released what we have as is they'd revoke the license."
