Specifically, they just don't WANT you to do so.  The hard drive can be physically accessed, but unlike the PS4's, it's buried deep in the system and it's a pain in the ass to get to.  Also opening the console in any way voids the warranty but that should be obvious.

Last weekend, I was wondering about the Xbone, as it's been a while.  For a moment, I thought that perhaps the ride did end.  Perhaps there was nothing else.  Perhaps it reached a point where there was nothing else to say about it, and perhaps it would just go quietly into the night.
