Nice to meet you all. I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades type of artist, as I have no exact specialty. However, I'm a bit of a MegaManiac so I've a few works dedicated to the blue bomber, some of which are kind of dated:

Once upon a time, there was a MegaFan dissatisfied with the quality of the X7 english dub track, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

... and then he remembered that X7 was absolutely unfun to play. Crying, "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR" he abandoned the project.

This is all that remains of that project:

Sounds like an english dub from the early 90's.

As in, Terrible. X7's English dub wasn't terrible, it wasn't great but it was OK, this sounds like a gag dub (is this what you were intending?)

EDIT: I've watched a bit more, its actually not half bad. Your voicework could use some practice, but you seem to have acting skill.

All in all, 3/5, not great but it's not the worst I've heard.

But this doesn't say much, because I'm [tornado fang]ing terribad at voice work.

Your Zero was pretty good, Your Axl not so much.

X7's English dub wasn't terrible, it wasn't great but it was OK,

I gotta disagree big time there. Calling X7's dub terrible doesn't even begin to describe it. The voices themselves are grating, and that's even before you get to Flame Hyenard. Inflection and tone are frequently off as well. For example, when Axl first meets Zero and Zero says "Wait a second", instead of saying it like "Hold it right there!" like a command, the dub has him saying the line as if he's just been duped.

But the english script is just as much to blame. Even if the game got top notch talent, poor writing will forever hold it back from being a truly good piece. If anyone were to try to redub X7 again, I'd suggest getting a rewrite first. Whether it be altering the English script a bit or translating the Japanese script more directly.

OP addressed most of the voice problems, making his dub better by default. I like the extra spin you put on some of the writing, like "Right now, I have to take care of THAT freak." But there were some times when it was a bit overdone. Your Axl impression got a bit exaggerated at times too. Your Lucas isn't too bad. Only thing I absolutely did not like was the READY. It was really cheesy.

Fun fact:
Zero in X7 is voiced by the same guy who voiced Master Albert in MMZXA.
I loved the guy as Master Albert... but as Zero he was pretty... emotionless.

Jack Merluzzi sounds great as sinister evil characters! That's why I think he would be perfect as Omega Zero! If he uses something like Master Albert's voice...  0v0

And as a bonus, fans would easily be able to relate the voice to Zero.

I can understand why the game is disliked so much, (by Inafking himself, even,) but if there was anything the game had going for it, it was the music. There were some pretty catchy tunes in that game. I wonder why there aren't that many musicians who cover tracks from this game?

I, personally, thought the game was pretty cool and the music was decent.  So did my brother.

The arrangement of the music was actually pretty good. The problem was the instrument choice. It was waaaaaaaaaay too insanely high pitched. That cover is a great example of how good the arrangement is for that stage.

I've heard his work before. I liked the majority of his conversions, save for MetalMan's.

The high pitched instruments were another reason why covering MetalMan's stage was painful (literally). Since I did that cover by ear, I had to listen to it over and over... I don't know how I could play this game for hours when I was a kid, since my head was spinning while doing this...

Quote
If anyone were to try to redub X7 again, I'd suggest getting a rewrite first. Whether it be altering the English script a bit or translating the Japanese script more directly.

While working on the redub project, I compared the English script with the Japanese audio that was in the game. According to my old notes, there aren't that many disrepencies with the scripts, save for some of the in-game boss battle samples. Rather, the problem with this translation is that it was rather direct, rather than adapted to sound more casual. When adapting written works into different languages, interpretation plays a very large factor for both the translator and the audience. Sometimes context clues are lost in the translation process, which can radically change the meaning of certain sentences. Zero's "Huh, wait a second" line is a perfect example of this.

Another fine example would be Flame Hyenard's infamous "BURN! BURN TO THE GROUND!" vocal samples. The chant consists of two samples: One sample had Hyenard shouting "moe! (Moh-eh!)", followed by "moe yagare! (moh-eh yah-gah-reh!)". Both can be translated as "Burn!", and "Burn to the ground!" respectively. However, since Hyenard is PROGRAMMED to spam these lines at a fast rate, he sounds awkward even in japanese. Since the english samples have a longer runtime than the original japanese ones, it becomes even MORE awkward.

Bear in mind that voiceover artists are also considered part of the "audience" that the translator is translating for. If the translation can be misinterpreted by you, the same can go for them too. I have nothing against Merluzzi, (I actually rather like his performances as Iori from KOF and Shiraz from Musashiden II) but I think he got kinda lost while recording for this game. Same goes for Axl's actor Leene Hardt, whom I also have nothing against as long as she's playing a female character.

I feel that one of the major reasons why the english dub tanked, was that the majority of the cast was somewhat miscast, or got lost in translation.

... with the exclusion of Peter Von Gomm (X), whom I cannot bear to listen to, period.
