I'll believe it when i see it. These rumors are way to fishy considering Nintendo's track record. They've always been known to focus more on gameplay than graphics.

The only home console from Nintendo that didn't feature the best graphical horsepower at the time of it's release is the Wii.

The SNES came out and tounced the Gen (in all aspects, not just graphical, lol).
The N64 came and beat out the PSX.
The GameCube toppled the PS2.

Then they bowed out of the race for the Wii.

The Gamecube was definitely more powerful than the PS2.x

You can see that in games like Mega Man X: Command Mission, where the game is smoother in frame rate.
Gamecube runs at 60 visual fps, while the PS2 version runs at 30 visual fps. o.o;

Gamecube also had considerably faster load times.  Come to think of it, load times have never really been much of an issue with Nintendo, save for the Wii (It's very noticeable in Brawl, anyway).

There were loading times in Brawl? I really didn't feel it.

My opinions on these revelations.

Quote
- Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Activision, Rockstar/Take Two, Electronic Arts, Namco and Ubisoft all have development kits

Alright, other than EA and Activision (Whom I don't give two shits about), sounds nice, I like that Rockstar is on board with Nintendo.

Quote
- each company has at least one game in the works

Sweet, I'll be intrested in seeing what they have (Except for EA and Activision, because its just going to be COD or a Sports game [/generalization])

Quote
- Nintendo really reaching out to third parties

They don't do enough of this, but maybe they should try reaching out to good Third-Parties, like the ones that have Dev Kits.

Quote
- Nintendo may hold back 1st party games at launch to help promote third party offerings

I'd be wary of that, the Wii tried that and we got [parasitic bomb] like "Chicken Shoot". What they should try and do is step up QA to keep freeware/cheap/lazily made garbage from reaching the console.

Quote
- StarFox for the Wii successor is in early development stages

[tornado fang]. Yes.

Quote
- storage solution at work that should do away with the issues third parties had on Wii

What issues? Their saves being 60 blocks or so? why do those saves take so much damn space anyway? I've always wondered about that.

Quote
- revamped downloadable service

Less Disconnects, slow downloads (for me at least), and more QA? Sure!

Quote
- much-loved FPS getting a 'port' to 3DS

I'm hoping to dear god they mean Metroid Prime or something, if it ends up being COD then I'll question why this was news.

Quote
- big focus on 3DS at E3 showing

Sounds nice, maybe we'll see more of that awesome looking Paper Mario game.

Quote
- Nintendo considering launching Skyward Sword around the same time Wii's successor hits

Why? Do it too late and it'll get overshadowed, like Twilight Princess GCN.

Quote
- Hideo Kojima approached concerning Wii successor

Now this could be intresting, maybe we'll see another MGS game.

Quote
- Resident Evil game being worked on for Wii successor

Probably a side story, if it was RE6 that would be fine too.

Quote
- Retro working on a Wii successor game, not related to Metroid

DKC Returns 2, I can only guess.

Really, the GC's main downfall was that the storage medium they used was horrible.
In all fairness Microsoft sits on a pile of money generated by Windows, which gives them quite an edge.  But yeah, correct on all points.

There were loading times in Brawl? I really didn't feel it.
Brawl has a long load when first starting the game, otherwise it seems pretty negligible to me.  I've already seen 3DS games with more intrusive loading than that.  Not to mention, God help you if you find yourself in need of the Wii System's SD Card menu.

Quote
- Nintendo considering launching Skyward Sword around the same time Wii's successor hits
I sure hope not.  The Wii's need of solid software is only going to grow more intense as people start anticipating new hardware, and if Nintendo's showcasing a power boost with the thing (as in, no easy generation-leaping ports like with Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario), then that's all the more reason Skyward Sword should come sooner rather than later.  I'm seeing too many late-lifecycle DS games already that are only suffering for it, be it in sales or in whether or not they get localized at all.

I'd be wary of that, the Wii tried that and we got [parasitic bomb] like "Chicken Shoot". What they should try and do is step up QA to keep freeware/cheap/lazily made garbage from reaching the console.
I don't think the Wii held back on releases so much as the gaming populace rebelled against Nintendo cutting their hype trains short.  Brawl was basically the last non-Zelda Wii game to get a long pre-release media showing, Mario Kart kinda missed the mark, and Nintendo started their ninja-secrecy launches from there.  It left the gap feeling worse than it really was, IMHO.

Now, with the 3DS, they've definitely held their best foot back and I'm getting annoyed with it real fast.  Pilotwings was welcome, but they could have done much more with it.  Kid Icarus can't come soon enough.

Quote
(Star Fox)
[tornado fang]. Yes.
Damn straight.  *IF* they get back to the formula that actually works, anyway.  Flight game sequels seem to always run into trouble when some idiot decides that flight isn't enough.  >.>

Quote
What issues? Their saves being 60 blocks or so? why do those saves take so much damn space anyway? I've always wondered about that.
More like digital download issues.  WiiWare games are subject to an extremely tight filesize limit, which is why MMU (before it was canned) was expected to skip it.  Half a gig works fine for saves, but for a collection of N64 games, let alone original titles, you run into some serious storage issues.  That's also why you basically never see post-release content developed for any Wii game.

Thankfully, with the 3DS, Nintendo had the good sense to design it to stream off of external storage (the SD card).  The Wii was not, which leaves its "SD menu" as only an automated file swap with the system's flash memory, thus requiring one to leave empty space on an already tight system storage as well as grossly inflating the load time.  It's one of my pet peeves with the system.

Is it just me or was that mock-up done using Super Mario World screenshots?

Hay guys, remember when Nintendo delayed a finished Zelda game for an entire year so they could make it a launch title for the Wii?

Man, that sucked.
...no, that was pretty awesome.
Besides, it was nice to have a Wii game that actually looked as good as a high-end GCN game, damn lazyass developers (The Force Unleashed makes me want to poke my eyes out).

Anyway, the same thing wouldn't work here, considering that a pretty major hook of Skyward Sword is its Motion Plus use.  Migrating that to traditional controller+touch screen would be a hell of a buzz-kill.  And God knows Nintendo needs to do a better job of actually supporting their peripherals anyway (I weep for Wii Speak).

Starfox or F-Zero
One would hope that Sega would return for F-Zero, given the amount of ass they kicked with GX, so if it's non-Metroid, then I'm seriously leaning towards Star Fox.
