Well there's no reason why Sony wouldn't help make themselves money, in theory.
Like Cosake said, Bluray isn't Sony's. But Sony could probably still use the money, what with all their 'bad press' recently 8U

It's just that I understand that adopting newer technologies is the way to go, but it disagrees with what I thought was Nintendo' s image of being the low-end cost family goto.
Then again, improvements over things like Wii1's puny onboard flash are welcome regardless of cost.

I guess all I can really say is it isn't exactly what I'd expect out of a $4.4M game

It doesn't even have mouth animations

Thing is...there are parts now that are cheap and can trump the PS3 and 360 hardware wise.

PC already has hardware that has been trumping the PS3 and 360 for years now.  Certainly w/ the success of the Wii, i'm sure Nintendo can actually flex their muscles once again.

Of course what can be done w/ hardware is a different story altogether, as proven by the GC/DC/PS2/Xbox era <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I do hope the new controller keeps the two-parter design, the nunchuk/mote was really comfortable even for motion insensitive games.

Wait...A HD display. On a controller? Why...

Oh well. Regardless of what random silly things they do from time to time, I still believe in Nintendo~ Count me as excited 8D

More Rumors courtesy of GoNintendo

- launch titles from third-party developers are in the works right now
- all-new controller
- controller features a built-in HD screen
- Blu-ray as the main optical drive

LoL, an HD Screen built into the controller. Madness I say! Madness! XD

As I'vew said a thousand times before on many different venues, I do believe that people should expect a Gamecube philosophy designed console (affordable as [tornado fang], makes profit from the jump and is more than capable of competing with 720/PS4) simply because not only has computer tech become cheap as hell, but Nintendo is literally jumping up two generations instead of one coming off the feature set of Wii and into tech of today. Just to give people some idea of the unique and interesting situation Nintendo's currently in with their options, there were 100 dollar (USD) graphics cards capable of blowing out both PS3 & 360 in 2007-8. With the added three years since then, 1.5 Billion dollars of R&D, and 1wata/Sakurai/Miyamoto commenting on different aspects of a more powerful console that they want to mess with (Iwata: heavy insistance on getting the big names that don't usually happen on Nintendo systems & online, Sakurai stating that he wants to make HD games, Miyamoto saying that they move on only when something particularly interesting he wants to do or see can't be done on current tech) I see no reason why anyone couldn't get a little hyped over this.

Also, on a more humorous side, with the inclusion of an HD caliber screen on the controller, Nintendo has pretty much said "[tornado fang] it, here's some more HD to make up for lost time." XD

Well, it can't be actual HD though, can it? But yeah, pretty much XD

Wait...A HD display. On a controller? Why...

Maybe they realized they loved the DC controller and thought they should improve on it? XD

I'm just curious as to how they plan to implement this Controller Screen for games and such. What ya'll up to Nintendo?

Also, a question to those who have owned a DC. Is the controller comfortable? How did that screen thing function?

Wasn't hyped before but I am now very curious on what the big red N has up its money grubbing sleeves.

Except for the cord being on the wrong end of the DC controller, I always love the thing. The screen on that was part of the MemCard.

As for the Blu-Ray/HD thing, I personally feel Nintendo did the right thing in waiting till HDTV's became much much more mainstream than they were when the Wii first came out. They've had time to build a monopoly and now they can move on. The real question is whether or not the new crowd they've gained will go with them. The gamers, tech geeks, and nintendophiles will always buy new systems. Will the new market continue on or stick with their Wii's?

Either way, Nintendophile PB cannot wait for the Nintenterprise!

To me, REALLY comfortable.

While the d-pad itself is small, a friend of mine taught me one thing, "You're a gamer right? you should be able to adapt to almost every controller".  So I toughed up and got used to it, for the sake of loving fighters.  And well, it's quite comfortable~ even the way the wire is set up (while on the wrong end, it has this thing that keeps it held, and well...you sorta forget where the wire is), it's quite neat.

More info/rumors from GoNintendo

- codename is “project cafe”
- similar to the architecture of the 360, but a little more powerful
- easy to develop for
- controller has a standard single, 6-inch touch screen (not HD)
- similar to the Dreamcast VMU with ample storage capacity
- still a huge “surprise” about the platform to be revealed at E3
- custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from the ATI R700 family with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512Mb of RAM
- GameCube backwards compatibility as well
- controller has a front-facing camera, D-Pad, two bumpers, two triggers and "possibly more"
- can allegedly be used as a Wii sensor bar

I like "huge surprises!"  8D

It will be awesome if the huge surprise is the auto 1080p render for GC and Wii.

but at the same time, I don't think that's enough to warrant a 'huge surprise'.

Just to drop a little knowledge on what to expect should that GPU spec alone pan out:

Quote from: brain_stew
R700 is the codename for only one GPU; the 4870x2.

There's no way that would end up in the system but if Nintendo are using a GPU that is more than 10x as powerful as Xenos in their dev kits, then this thing is going to be no slouch.

Xenos is the 360's internal GPU name. Also:

There will be first and third party "Wii 2" games at E3. No clue if they'll be playable.

Dual analog sticks on the controller. Can stream game content from the console. Not sure if it'll be full games, mini-games, or apps.

Touch screen on a console!? What madness is this!?!

Oh well, still like to see the thing in action and it's games before getting hyped. Though I may be impatient for the day E3 comes up...

So, no news on the sony or microsoft side?

I'd settle for component video.  Fortunately, my TV supports both.

The Other Side
http://www.crowdedstreet.net
irc.esper.net #theotherside

Commander Shepard: *stares blankly at a video of scantily clad asari dancers* ...What kind of hotel is this?
Liara T'Soni: It is a luxury resort with an... exotic edge.  Azure is slang for a part of the asari body in some places on Illium.
Shepard: Where?
Liara: The lower reaches, near the bottom.
Shepard: I meant, "where on the asari body?"
Liara: So did I.
