Movies Movies Movies.  I love em.  You love em.  So feel free to discuss them.  And you know, don't just talk about current movies too, but feel free to talk about movies from the past that you love as well.  I'd love this topic to be a full blown movie discussion topic, so that I can hear recommendations as well as find out all the awesome cinema that you all have watched in you life.  So please, discuss.

LoL, however the main reason I need my movie topic back is because Thursday night I saw one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life.  I'll just quote myself from another board...

Quote
My friend called me today telling me that he had Free Tickets to see this tonight at the Angelica, I was REALLY looking forward to it. I saw a preview for it last week when I saw Let The Right One In, an excellent film BTW, and I thought Repo looked awesome. I even got there early to make sure we got good seats. I read reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and such, saying this movie was bad, and I just shrugged it off, like I do most reviews. I'm always curious what others say about movies, but I like to form my own opinion. And after seeing it, I have indeed formed an opinion about it...

This was, hands down, one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life.

Keep in mind, as I said, I love movies that are so bad, they're good. This, however, is not one of those movies. This falls into my very very VERY Rare "I never want to see this movie again as long as I live" category. A category that is reserved for such horrors as Manos: The Hands Of Fate, Catwoman, Red Zone Cuba, and others.

I knew that this movie would be compared to Rocky Horror, a movie that I personally don't like but I can somewhat see the appeal of. Despite my dislike of Rocky Horror, at least it flows well, and has a few catchy songs, IMO. I understand that this was trying to be different, with it's Rock/Pop/Operatic style, but for me, it failed. I mean, the songs are so poorly written, that not even the extremely beautifully talented Sarah Brightman could save it. Giles (Anthony) has a fantastic singing voice, and so does Alexa Vega, but great voices can't save a song from being poorly written, and somewhat out of place. Even Paris Hilton can somewhat carry a tune in this movie as well, but again, poor writing and placement. And for a movie that is primarily singing, that's obviously a bad thing for me.

It's clear that this movie is clearly going for the obscure, the film geeks, and the cult followers, and not the standard movie going public. I can easily ignore the god-awful lip-synching in the beginning of the film too , as that was fixed later on. I thought the comic book scenes were pretty nifty too. However, this movie, I felt, was trying way way way too hard to be over the top and bizarre, to the point of just being stupid, and not in a good unigue Goth way. The characters, the plot, the story, and the music are all so nonsensical, and not in a cheesy 80's flick way. Both musicals and operas still have to flow well, and this movie did not at all. Hell, even The Wild World of Batwoman flows better than this movie. I understand the need and desire to be unique, but unique does not always equal good.

Now, my opinion of Repo! The Genetic Opera will never change.  However, as someone on the IMDb board said, good or bad, this movie is indeed an experience.  Perhaps if you are into the gothic scene, or really liked Rocky Horror, then this movie is for you.  Hell, you might like it in general.  That's just my opinion of it.

...and man o man, I do love Sarah Brightman.  Her voice is just so beautiful...

I went to see Role Models last night, Its funny all throughout, but its not for everybody.

This movie couldve easily passed as a PG-13 movie if it weren't for the Nudity I think.

I'll quote the site since I can't express it with my own thought:

Wow, have we really fallen into an imagination depression so low that we have to find movies in crappy board games?

It's really like Robot Chicken said too.  Coming next summer... Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Heh, what I truly find sad is that it's people like me who will go see this crap, and contribute money to it.  I know I'm to blame, but I just can't help it.  This kinda of [parasitic bomb] MUST be seen.   8)

I did not just read what I thought I read.

No. Ridley Scott cannot be working on a futuristic Monopoly movie in the vein of Blade Runner.

Forget I even read that.

I saw Quantum Of Solace today, The end result left me with a happy feeling because the Movie was much better than Casino Royale.

I didn't think it was much better, but I thought it was just as good.  Daniel Craig can continue to be Bond for a long time, and I'd be very happy.  I LOVED this movie.  It was awesome.  I'm seeing it again tomorrow night.  I can't wait.

However, opening Bond song is pretty bad though.

I just saw this movie today.  I, too, thought it was a great movie.  It was as good if not a little better than Casino Royale.  I knew that it was going to be an intensely good movie from the beginning scene.  This will definitely be added to the astronomical list of action movies we have at my house when it comes out on DVD.

However, opening Bond song is pretty bad though.
Agreed.  I didn't care too much for the opening song either.

From what I heard, the opening song was rushed together.  What's funny is that the lyrics aren't that bad, but the two singing it have NO chemistry together.  They sound awful when singing in unison.  The opening animation kicked ass though.  Great to see naked dancing chicks again!

I still think Die Another Day is the worst Bond song though.

I saw Army of Darkness today, and the other two in the serie this month as well, all three of them for the first time. Pretty good, but I was the most impressed with the original, which was truly scary. I have total respect for the director who made this movie with such a low budget.

Glad to have finally seen an excellent horror movie once again(The Evil Dead).

I don't know "Never Say Never Again" makes Die Another Day sound decent, even if it's not really from a true James Bond film.

I'd have to listen to the Never Say Never Again song again to compare, but in terms of accurate Bond movies, it's by far the worst.

Well, I sat down and watched Tropic Thunder earlier. Not all of it, though, and for one simple reason. Perhaps it's because I only saw the first few scenes and I'm deciding too early, but in my opinion...

It was awful. D= Just...bad. The opening failed to get my attention very well, I barely even smirked once, it was unnecessarily violent, and just not funny. I mean, I really like Jack Black, and I think Ben Stiller's pretty good, but I failed to see anything appealing in it. The guy who reccomended it to us (who's a very good friend of my mom's) said it was really funny, though I was skeptical about that after watching Napoleon Dynamite, another movie he thought was great and that I failed to find funny in the slightest. I usually like most comedy movies (even ones that are supposed to be crap, like Drillbit Taylor and Be Kind, Rewind), but I just did not like this movie.

On the subject of Quantum of Solace, I really enjoyed it. Admittedly, I miss the gadgets and the whimsical wit of Q, but from what I've heard, the original 007 books were actually gritty and tense and portrayed Bond as a cold, cynical assassin, rather than the generally-accepted image of the suave lady-killer who sips martinis and drives fancy cars. I don't really get why so many people are against it, though. It's not my favourite 007 flick (that belongs to Goldeneye), but I still liked it. I hope Daniel Craig will continue to play Bond for some time; I like his portrayal of Bond. =3
