Someone brought this up on a different forum, and it's been itching at my head. Is Forte's English name pronounced "base" or "bass"? I always thought it was more of a joke in-of-itself since Bass is both a fish and something dealing with music when pronounced 'base' to go along with Treble.

A couple people were pretty adamant about it being "bass" like the fish, and then my childhood memories came up again when I thought it was pronounced like the fish until someone corrected my child-aged self (I don't know how old I was when I played MM7). Plus I remembered MM8 and I couldn't help but wonder if they just royally flaked up the name pronunciation or what.

Besides, with this, it pretty much becomes definitive to remove any trace of doubt a fan may have.

megaman 8 forced me to call him Bass, since thats what it said, and I have said it like that since... its hard to change the pronunciation now... I avoid argument by just saying Forte.

Honestly, it amazes me that people do actually call him Bass (fish).  I mean, going by the simple, clear fact that MegaMan characters are pretty much named after musical related stuff, it's pretty self explanatory.  Besides the Bass Guitar, as Sky mention, it also clearly refers to the Bass & Treble knobs found on a lot of speakers, thereby IMO making it a more clever combination than Forte & Gospel.

Hymnal and Gospel I can see.  Even Forte and Piano.  But Forte and Gospel make no sense.  The terms just don't go together like that.

Just because Gospel is Forte's wolfdog robot thing doesn't mean their names have to go together somehow. See Rock, Rush, Tango, Beat (though I'm sure someones going to say something about Beat or how Gospel and Forte were more or less made for each other).

Anyways, while the Bass/Treble thing is a bit clever, I just prefer the japanese name. Its weird because my pronouncing for the entire series is bassackwards (baseackwards?). Besides, Forte/Gospel sound alot more menacing to me than Fish-name-mess-up and Treble.

its SPELLED ike the fish. both terms have the same spelling, just different ptonunciation. im not gonna know the difference when im a little kid. plus it didnt help that MM8 pronounced it like the fish.

also, what kind of musical term is Rush supposed to be? I never gave his name much thought, but now that I think about it, I have no idea what his name is supposed to mean...

It's spelled like the Musical term too.  And even as a kid, I'd think Bass (fish) and Treble would make no sense, thereby clearly making it Bass (music)!  Haha, as for MM8, I think it was clear by the craptastically hilarious dubbing that they didn't give a [parasitic bomb] about it.

When it's clearly hinted at and pointed out through the rest of the Classic MM series.  Maybe if MM8 was your first game, and you were...I'd say 7, I'd say it's excusable.

Yes, this.

Now I know it's "base", but he'll always be "bass" in my heart of hearts. Because bass, is short for bad-ass.

Hey, English is not my first language you know, how was I supposed to know how to pronounce it? Now because I've been calling him that forever it stuck, and I can't call him any other way.

My life is currently bears and Jojos and everything is great.

Even if it's supposed to be "Base" I always pronounce it "Bass".  It's a mispronunciation that just kinda stuck with me.
