Gaming / Ecto-Rush, my newest game!
« on: November 03, 2014, 08:39:05 PM »
As most all of you know, I own a game company. We put out our latest game just recently, and the Android version just made it up today. It's free, with no gimmicks or trickery. Just ad's to support it.

Ecto-Rush is a SHMUP meets Endless Runner. Boiled down the genre mechanics to their basics and combined it with randomized level construction and boss battles. No buying or grinding for currency. It's all about skill. Starts out easy, gets crazy!

If you try it out let me know what you think!

-------------------------

As some of you may have read on these forums before, I was in the process of starting my own video game company, Skylance Studio. The first project in development is an arcade action style title called Hamster Drop!

The basics are simple: catch hamsters while avoiding nasty hazards such as bombs. As we develop further there will be many more new stages, hazards, and more. We intend to include powerups, and and 2 playable characters. For the final version, it will have at least 80 levels including tough challenge levels.

The game is currently in an Alpha state, which we had brought to PAX East this year for our playable demo! PAX East was a HUGE success for us, and we're excited to continue development. On our Facebook page we posted pictures from PAX East, along with screenshots and developer art!

We intend to release for iOS, Android, and Windows 8!

Gaming / Under Night In-Birth

Has anyone heard of this yet? It is as if Melty Blood and Blazblue had a baby.

http://inbirth.info/

The production values look mid-high, and it seems to play pretty intense. I've never heard of it before though. Looks worth a try, but no US locations listed of course, and I doubt it's hitting consoles yet.

EDIT: Wait, hold on. Maybe it does have something to do with Melty Blood?

Gaming / Yoshinori Ono's Hospitalization - And the Fate of Megaman?
« on: June 12, 2012, 03:38:53 PM »
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-11-the-rise-and-collapse-of-yoshinori-ono

Reading this, there is no surprise that Inafune left now. This is morally repulsing. I had no idea things were this bad in Capcom. No wonder they're losing their good staff.

And yet I admire Ono's determination and self sacrifice. God speed my friend. Just don't overdo it physically, not that I ever take my own advice on that matter...

In either event, this interview might as well be Ono's resignation letter. I don't know whats in store for him next.

So what does this have to do with Megaman?

Quote
Street Fighter, Capcom's defining game series that originated in 1987, had struggled to maintain an audience past the mid-'90s. At one time it was king of the arcades, drawing competitors to battle it out in 60-second bursts of speed chess, dressed up as bar-room brawl pixel fights. But following the release of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike in 1999, declining sales meant Capcom decided to lay the series to rest.
"When Third Strike came out R&D didn't really consider sales back then," Ono explains. "We weren't as marketing-orientated as we are today. We just wanted to make the best game and wanted to please our most hardcore fans. That's what drove us. Obviously, in terms of sales it didn't pay, so the company couldn't invest in a sequel with a decent rationale. Not only that, but we were adamant we had made the epitome of the fighting game with Third Strike. So from the company's point of view, if the team is stating that it cannot do any better combined with a lack of sales, it's a complete story and it's time to move on."

It was this guilty conscience that inspired Ono to write a design document for a fourth entry to the Street Fighter series immediately after he was promoted to producer. "I was working on Onimusha 4 and during that time I repeatedly submitted my proposal for a new Street Fighter," he says. "The company kept telling me: 'It's a dead franchise. It doesn't make any money. We have series that make money like Resident Evil and Onimusha. Why bother with a dead franchise?'"

Whether they figured it was ruined by sales alone (ZXA sold fairly poorly), or they realized they ruined it with their little vengeance stunt on Inafune... We don't know. But I do bet top dollar that its now in the 'dead franchise' category and won't be revived until rebels in the company, like Ono and Inafune before them, takes up the torch and somehow pulls off a miracle.

I hate to say it but the chance of a Legends 3 revival looks slimmer and slimmer by the day. Capcom is truly an evil corporation now.

And to think, I once dreamed about working there. Good thing I'm just building my own business now...

X / Do you like Axl?
« on: July 04, 2010, 03:34:14 AM »
The childish third man in the primary line of defense for maverick wrong doings... Axl.

Love him, or hate him? Was Axl more, or less, welcome in X8 as opposed to X7? What do you, and don't you like about him?

Some feel he breaks up the tried and true dynamic of the X and Zero partner team. Others feel he fits right in, or even to a greater degree, we should have more actual playable characters much like Command Mission... What do you think?

Rockman Series / What If: Megaman 9 & 10 Complete Works
« on: May 10, 2010, 12:37:19 AM »
Consider this; in light of say RM10 Image Soundtrack album being released, would you have liked the game to actually feature that music instead of the NES songs? Obviously not all of them are fit for in game inclusion, but say for the sake of argument they were all in game style. The NES graphics are fine by me, but as far as music goes when the release such remix albums I always think "I would have loved to have played to this version of the song more." Much like Complete Works and Megaman Anniversary Collection had the remixes for the classic titles.

What are your thoughts?

Fan Games / Fangame Remakes That Should Be Made
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:44:10 PM »
Megaman 7 getting the NES treatment was cool. I think doing 8 is unnecessary though, especially with all the dumb changes. So it makes me wonder what games should get a fan remake? Here are just a few that came to mind.

Megaman X7
Why has no one tried to correct this blunder yet? The story was pretty neat. Just keep things 2D gameplay wise and remake the stages a little. For Axl, you really just need to slap in something like X8's gameplay and you're good to go. If put into X4-6 or X1-3 style I'm sure it could be forged into a good game. You can even keep the soundtrack, since it was pretty damn good.

Rockman & Forte Wonderswan
An interesting premise, but looks and plays pretty bad. It could be a good game with some updates.

Megaman V
The game is awesome, but just think about having a more standard screen to character ratio, and with color.
