X / Does Buster Plus in X6 not apply to charged shots?
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:22:07 PM »
I'm doing an unarmored X playthrough of X6, and Nightmare's take one charged shot plus 1 lemon. When I equip Buster Plus, they still take one charge shot and one lemon. The lemons change color from yellow to red, leading me to suspect that Buster Plus only affects the lemons. Does anyone know anythint specific about this?

Gaming / Too Many Games 2014
« on: January 18, 2014, 10:43:59 PM »
http://toomanygames.com/

Has anyone heard of this or been to this? I've gone maybe 3 or 4 times in a row now. It's awesome. It's a bunch of tables of people selling cool old retro game stuff. I walked away with cool stuff every year. Got like 7 Master System games for $8, a second DreamCast which was supposed to be able to run burnt games according to my research on manufacture dates, but couldn't (Oh well, can't have too many DreamCasts), and lots of other cool things in the years I've attended.

They also have a lot of craft type things, like bead pixel art. There's a guy selling Lego statues. There's another guy selling large paintings that are way too expensive for my budget, and the best ones are never actually for sale. People making hats and plushies, and all sorts of stuff.

There's a section for TCGs, with binders of MtG, YuGiOh, and other cards.

There's a bunch of arcade cabinets set on freeplay.

There's a bunch of representatives from board game companies demo-ing their stuff.

There's live bands and stuff too. I never cared enough to see the X-Hunters, but this year Random will be there. HeavyW8Bit was a favorite of mine, and I see DJ CutMan there every year. DJ CutMan does the DJing, actually, and if you wanna listen to his stuff before you buy it he'll DJ it into the music for the whole place on the spot lol.

The first year I went the bar was open, but I guess not enough nerds bought beer, because I haven't seen it open since.

They have pretty much every system imaginable lined up so you can test your [parasitic bomb] as soon as you buy it. I think I couldn't find a Master System last year, though.

I highly recommend, if you're shopping, to bring anything you can test stuff with that's portable. I now have one of those portable Super Nintendos, the SupaBoy, and it's invaluable in finding out whats fun, what's not, & what simply is too much Japanese menus.

I picked up a lot of cool Super Famicom stuff there. All 5 DBZ games. Contra 3, because who needs to read that anyway. Super Mario Kart and Kirby Super Star.

If anybody's in the Philly area or can be there, I highly recommend giving this a look. I know Quickie and PB are close enough to feasibly drive.

I'm very excited to be going again this year. I schedule my trips home to Pennsylvania around this, rather than Christmas, lol. I keep getting more and more of my friends into it to go with me. Not sure who's all coming this year, but I know for sure my friend Cheyenne is all about it.

Last year we did Too Many Games and a sweaty rave at SoundGarden Hall in the same weekend. We went straight from the convention Friday night to the rave. I really, really regretted not getting a stuffed Mega Buster to wear at the rave. :(

Edit:
The kinds of stuff they have gets much more obscure than I mentioned. They have all kinds of Neo Geos and TurboGrFX stuff too. One of these years I'm gonna pick up a Neo Geo Pocket or a WonderSwan because WHY NOT. One guy sells modded GameBoys. 2 kinds. One with screen light installed, the other with a slo-mo button. The latter is for music purposes, which I don't do, but is really cool.

Here's heavyw8bit if you're curious. I love him.
[youtube]j-Xo5fksQHo&list=PL284F458D5CFFA0C4[/youtube]

When I saw him there he was selling his synthesizer cartridge for NES, which used 4 controllers as it's controls. I want it bad, but it wasn't in my budget at the time. He won't be there this year though. :(

EXE / What Giga Chips / Program Advances / Folders are you running?
« on: January 17, 2014, 05:01:43 AM »
Hello. I would like to discuss chip folders.

In 1 I run G. Lots of Guts Shoot. It's the best thing in that quaint game IMO.

I forgot what I ran in 2. I either had my battery die and restarted or picked up a new copy, because I just got past QuickMan.EXE. I remember the Fan Wind whatever Program Advance being insanely broken in that, though, from memory of playing with my friend.

In 3 White (the only game I've ever completed by gettting all 7 stars), I run Y Life Swords, Area Steals, Panel Grabs, Poison Pharaoh, Serenade with Atk+30 & Navi+40, a regular Grass Stage (I'm presently WoodGuts [gotta grab the rest of the Guts programs]), a Full Custom (mandatory lol) & a Gaia Blade for no reason whatsoever. I do love me some Balance for multiplayer lol. And it's Y, so it's a perfectly unicoded folder.

In 3 Blue I run L Life Swords (though not quite a full set of each), Step Sword, Panel and Area Grab, Geddon 1 and Ice Stage (I'm AquaCustom with AirShoes in this), Body Guard, Master Style (which is a waste of Mega Chips but hey, [tornado fang] it), and Folder Back (cheap, lame, amateurish, and keep using it to practically force your opponent in multiplayer to bleed all the chips in their folder).

In 4 Red Sun I have a disgustingly multicoded G Pile Driver, R Snake, S Area Grab and Sanctuary, N Geddon 2, the awful V Super Vulcan Red Sun gets, and H for Holy Dream. Mostly based around Guts and Search Styles, either for multihit nonelemental chips or shuffling. with one each of a Wind and a Heal chip just in case I guess. Haven't netbattled with 4 in a long long time.

In 5 Team Colonel I run S Life Swords (because it's the best Program Advance ever of course), Drill Arm 2, Air Hockey, Area Steal, Super Vulcan, a couple of Rock Cubes for putting the Super Vulcan on mein arm, Cross Divide (It's the only Giga I have in this so far), and Dark Invisible (because [tornado fang] you I don't care if Chaos Shadow is cheap eat my [parasitic bomb] lol) based around Shadow Soul, Knight Soul, and, as eluded to before, Colonel Soul and Chaos Shadow.

Aaaaaand... In 6 Cybeast Gregar I'm running S Machine Gun 2 for lots of multihit extra damage (and some White Capsules for definitive damage comboing) and Spreader 3 and Double Shot for that awesome and fun 4 in opponents' HP give them glitches ability with Killer Cross, Life Sword with lots of Wide & Long Swords to throw with Slash Cross (and a couple of Coming Roads to guarantee charge shot hits), SlashMan.EXE SP because you can't not hit them, and TomahawkMan.EXE paired with Area Steal for most likely guaranteed 140 lopped off, and H Big Hook, because that's my only Giga I have so far in this.

Can't find my GameCube so I dunno what I've got in Network Transmission.

Can't wait to try Battle Chip Challenge, besides it being silly, someday.

I wish I could find a ROM translation on cartridge of 4.5.

So, what are y'all's favorite Giga Chips, Program Advances, and all-around strategies for folder construction and netbattling?

Gaming / Beating hard games like they owe you money
« on: January 17, 2014, 04:27:04 AM »
Who here likes retro games for their fantastic difficulty levels? I do.

So last year I beat a few games, like Strider and Bionic Commando, which were very satisfying. More recently I've been hardpressed to either find games I can beat or beat the impossibly hard ones I've tried and tried to beat.

I recently beat Dracula X, though that game isn't really that hard. Mostly I managed to get the best ending by not falling to Stage 4', which always pissed me off to a great extent when I fell.

I haven't yet, but will someday, beat Ninja Gaiden 2, Castlevania, and Sonic 1 & 2. Those Sonic games are rough. I always wind up at Silver Sonic / Robotnik with a bunch of lives and continues, and bleed them all out fast as hell. I made it past when Jacquio revives in Ninja Gaiden 2. Every little bit helps polish my skills for next time. I made it to stage 5 in Castlevania, which is further than I'd ever made it (I just got it a few months ago), but the game froze up as I struck a red skeleton on my 3rd or 4th try at the stage (lol NES).

This is my Amazon games wishlist:
http://amzn.com/w/1I4QMT57G7GA0

Of highest interest to me are Ninja Gaiden 3, Castlevania 3, and Castlevania Bloodlines, as far as new territory is concerned. Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Zelda 2 are rebuys for me for stuff that skipped moves. Actraiser 1 & 2 are games I've never played that I'm waiting to own the physical cartridge so as to have an unmolested authentic experience.

I'm also very much interested in playing Hyperstone Heist. I've never played it, but it's kind of a different animal because it's a game I would never play without a partner.

Chrono Trigger, like the Actraisers, I'm really interested in playing. I want something slightly complex and a little RPG. I beat Chrono Trigger once, but on my friend's cartridge. I need my own copy lol.

Is there such a thing as a strategy guide for Battle Network 1? I can't seem to find one. But that's not exactly on-topic lol.

EXE / Trying to finish my Battle Network games
« on: January 15, 2014, 05:13:44 AM »
The only EXE game I ever beat beat was 3 White, and I've been looking for something to do, so I've decided to run through and complete my libraries. I'm starting on 1, a very good place to start, I thought, but the FAQs on GameFAQs are pretty terribly incomplete. Got as much relevant information as I could from the Chip Location Guide on there, but most of the virus locations simply say ?. So now I'm onto trying to find a virus location guide.

Trying to remember what the good old-school style fan websites are. Rockman Perfect Memories has always been the best place to find release dates, and is especially useful for finding out what was released on what platforms where. Mega Man Network is pretty barebones, being nothing much more than a news site, for which Protodude's Corner is much better IMO. What else is there? I remember there being a site called The Undernet, but haven't been able to track it down. I'm about to check the partner sites on RPM's frontpage and see what I can find there.

God damn do I wish I had more strategy guides. Thank God I have a physical copy of the one for 5.

Anyway, how has everyone been? Do you guys still Mega the Man? I do.

Is anything missing here? Also, nice watermark in that Mega Man X8 trailer. Why is it in Asian with English music and English name?

Challenge Mode / Three-wheeled Driving
« on: November 08, 2012, 03:08:25 AM »
Alrighty, so I had an idea today. My right front wheel flew off my car while I was driving. It was pretty interesting driving it to the side of the road, albeit a brief venture into the pure luxury of driving with three wheels. I suggest everyone try it, and record their results. Then we can compare results. It'll be a blast.

Also, obscure forum features are the [parasitic bomb].

Also, make me your buddy if you so choose. It's not up to you whether or not you're my buddy.

EXE / Why doesn't Capcom just [parasitic bomb] some Battle Network games?
« on: October 30, 2012, 05:01:51 AM »
Seriously, Nintendo has no problem marketing Pocket games, and Starforce's failure is pretty obviously a telltale sign that Lan and MegaMan.EXE are just fine as they are. You can fit tons of [parasitic bomb] in between 6 and the final ending at the end of 6.

Rockman Series / Air fresheners!
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:02:05 AM »
I must've missed this from a case of not checking the best Mega Man news site.

How much are air fresheners typically anyway? I need one for my car, because it smells like an ashtray. $3 seems very reasonable.

Off The Wall / The topic about spam topics
« on: October 19, 2012, 05:30:59 AM »
There's no way one can leave topics started by spambots open, but sometimes, they're just so funny, and one feels saddened by the inevitability of their being closed. That's where this topic comes in. Let us chuckle at the [parasitic bomb] that winds up here.

Most recently a topic was started about angling knives. What? I mean, I like to fish, don't get me wrong, but you'd have to be pretty professional to need an angling knife. How do these bots hit so far off-mark? Cracks me the [tornado fang] up.

Share your favorite examples of obvious spambot-made topics, here or elsewhere.

Rockman Series / Music on which Mega Man music is based
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:01:41 PM »
OK, so this thread is for all those songs that Cappy people used as inspiration for the best Mega Man beats. I'll start us off with the REM song to which Elec Man owes his tunage:

Rockman Series / Bugs
« on: October 04, 2012, 10:03:07 PM »
Has anyone stumbled across any bugs in any Magger games? Once Guts Man pushed me back through the room after my Hyper Bomb killed him, but as I went to save the state, I accidentally loaded one, thanks to my PSP's joystick malfunctioning and moving the cursor right as I pressed button.

I found a kayak on craigslist 23 minutes drive from my house. I hope the surge flooding reaches 3-5 feet. This badboy comes with a paddle, so I'll be ready to go. Rest assured, if I get the kayak I will bring a disposable camera. As long as I don't drop it, we should all be in for a lot of fun.

I noticed that EasyMac became easier. You used to have to boil the water before putting it in the cup, IIRC. And is it just me, or are those elbow macaronis sickly looking? They look like Voldemort's skin until you mix the cheese powder in.

Entertainment / VHS tapes
« on: August 20, 2012, 02:06:14 AM »
Now, I know some people will call me crazy, but I love VHS tapes. They come with trailers for other tapes, making finding out about stuff you've never even heard of or have long forgotten about a snap, they're usually like 50 cents to a dollar, and once you get a good collection going it's one of the best things to collect.

Recently I found (and I know Quickman will appreciate this), George Lucas in Love on tape. Yup, it's my first time even seeing a 9 minute long tape. During that same purchase I found part 2 of the BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. [tornado fang] if I ever find part one, but man, what a neat find, at least IMO. That sucker's 99 minutes long. Picks up with Arthur seeing Deep Thought begin computing everybody's favorite number. Zaphod's excellently acted, and Trillian's totally cute.

Anybody else here love combing thrift stores for choice titles on VHS?

General / Incongruency
« on: August 19, 2012, 06:32:35 AM »
Why is it I check the rules for signature dimensions, it reads 200 tall by 600 wide, and then the forum resizes it to 166 tall and 500 wide? Sounds like an edit is in order.
