I expect an insanely expensive high end machine with a weak library of games.

We’re supposed to learn “things” about the next Playstation today, but as the Playstation 3 has largely become the “exclusives box” the Gamecube once was in my house, Ni No Kuni has been teaching me plenty about the existing hardware that I’m ready to do away with.
Controllers that frequently lose their connections or lack removable batteries are not a “thing.” Frequent updates without even a pretense of feature additions aren’t a “thing.” I could pay them to update it for me, but the other option is that I could not do that, and that’s the one I’m gonna go with. Hamstrung online services in game, limited chat and invite options, and nonexistent party functions aren’t 2013, let alone the previous years. Outside of the prodigious and brilliant work of its wholly owned subsidiaries, the console never got any better. It never had anything approaching “Xbox Live, but free.” The Playstation Move didn’t. Maybe now that we’re getting a successor, people can say true things about the existing system without hurting them fee-fees

I'm seeing some stuff regarding cloud and No Native PS3 BC.
But the sound keeps [tornado fang]ing leaving.
Okay, new Killzone game announcement, don't care, not my cup of tea but I know the series has fans. I just wish I knew more about what the [tornado fang] was going on regarding the BC because the sound was being an archdouche during that time and I missed out on most of that part of the announcement.

I really hope the E3 announcement isn't FFXV or some iteration of XIV. Sqaure has been stalling with Versus XIII long enough, and I have a suspicion that it's been pushed to the PS4.

I dunno, from people I talked to I don't think anybody was expecting a price announcement already, so that doesn't guarantee $500 o.o

I hope it's not $500+, cause I think it'll reaaaaally hurt Sony. I honestly wasn't expecting a price announcement either, cause I don't have much faith in Sony's PR lately. For all I know they might not know the price of the thing yet. But it's still the most important and relevant thing for the PS4 after the PS3's opening price debacle. The only way I think they would've announced the price is if it was only $400, because it would've had everyone's gaming panties in a bunch.

With this powerful tech and Sony's greediness, I'm fully expecting AT LEAST $500. I mean, $400 for a system like this would seem like flushing money down the toilet. With games like Deep Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9UmHm9HA3c&list=PLol_ykYs3OQ65y4avMdbMk_k96z3lMt6W), the PS4 seems highly unlikely to be less than $500. Nintendo would probably go for $400, but not Sony.
We'll see.

They probably wanna feel it out first, I would have to guess that half of the price is made up to make a profit from making them and the other half is public opinion? If it seems like the opinion is good they could go for more, and visa versa. If I had to take a guess I think they'll try and get as close to $300-$400 as they can. Wii U was what, $250? They gotta stay close to that.

Seriously and less pervertedly though, judging by the hardware specs, the addition of the new camera which comes with it, and the probable cost of the controller itself, if it was at least $400 I think that'd be a more that fair asking price. I think it's also the only way it'll make a profit out of the gate. Like you said, they have to stay close to that. $500 is really pushing it for an upgraded PS4. I'm no graphics [classy lady], but I really did not see that the graphics had improved all that much to warrant an upgraded system. We'll get more info at E3.

Perhaps, but at least MS doesn't have the 500 US Dollars stigma, plus I think 360 is probably more popular in the US than PS3 so I can see people shelling out more without much thought. And then Sony can go "hey, if at least one of the consoles is going $500 this gen then we can too!"

I dunno, you could be right. If the original 360 proved anything, it's that it can have a more than 50% failure rate at one point and still sell. Outside of a gaming system, I can't imagine any other piece of electronics hardware being able to accomplish that. I agree that the 360 is probably more popular in the US than the PS3. One thing the PS4 has going against it that the PS3 had was the Blu-Ray player addition. So a $500 price tag for a mere gaming console is steep. I wonder if the new XBox will go with a Blu Ray player. I dunno, I'm just skeptical about half a grand for gaming. But that's me though.

Yeah, Trailers tend to look better than the final product. So for now I'm keeping my expectations low.

To me, the visuals looked pretty darn sweet, but as I never actually owned a 360/PS3 I wasn't constantly immersed in the "HD graphics" stew of the last five years. And Sony trying to do a gaming-facebook-profile thing is interesting.
But at the end of the day it'll all be ridiculously expensive, probably cut half of its advertised features, and have few games that interest me outside of Armored Core. It'll still be fun to look at, though.

In all fairness, Blu-Ray wasn't the "definitive" disc format when the PS3 came out. There was that long and bloody format war to decide that after the point.

Granted, but it was still a selling point once the format was decided upon and many people bought one to have what was arguably the best Blu-Ray player on the market.

Heh. I don't know, though. I wasn't really wowed by Sony's hype-train. We'll see what the console actually launches with... also, I'm not too sure what they're up to re: used games, considering there was a lot of hushed whispering between the execs and the PR team when they were interviewed about it.

ps4 is going to be a easier system to develop games on now, so there won't be any issues in porting and expect lots of great games on it.
Sony is bringing what we all want....games, its all about the games mostly like everyone says.

my only complaint so far is the backwards compatibility issue, but they did say that they will stream the games via Gaikai, but i honestly don't think thats a good idea.

So I felt I should probably mention this, despite it not really being PS4 related.
If you've got a PSVita and are in the US, you can download 4 games for free as a present for keeping the Vita afloat for a year.
The games are:
-Wild ARMs (PSOne Classic)
-Patapon
-Piyotama
-Patchwork Heroes
Not exactly a great selection, but I hear Wild ARMs and Patapon are okay at least. And even if you don't own a Vita, you can get the games if you have the Media Go Application on your PC.

I haven't been excited for a new system since the PS2, Only other time was the SNES.
Only time I was kinda let down was the N64, but I think Mega Man and other random games made up for it it...I guess.
In truth, the first system I played was a NES (my dad's), but my first real system was the SNES. Super Mario World, DKC2, Link to the Past, and Super Mario All Stars. Man. Purple on heather gray, living in the trailer park in hot summer with the AC on full blast. Takes me back man.
But uh, oh yeah, new systems suck for the most part.
