Title: Capcom of America
Post by: Cherrykorock on February 04, 2013, 01:13:10 AM
This might be a dumb question but I really want to know. Obviously CoA cares a good deal about the Megaman franchise. Way more than CoJ seems to. I assume it's related to copyright issues somehow but seeing as they are technically a division of Capcom why can't CoA develop a Megaman game? Again I'm sorry if this is one of those duh kind of questions.

So they hold all the intellectual rights to the Rockman franchise?

What part of:

You do not understand?
CoA can't do [parasitic bomb] without CoJ approval.
So that means, yes... they hold all the rights.

And here I thought it was because nobody liked Ronzer Labs' Mega Man 1/3 or US Gold's Mega Man for the Game Gear.
Except me, of course.

No need to be rude, I just wanted clarification on why they'd need permission.

They weren't developed by Capcom. =P There are some good megaman games that weren't produced by Capcom though like the Rockman World games.

What's the major difference between a game made by Capcom of America and a licensed game made by a third-party, exactly?  Remember: The Rockman Zero and Rockman ZX games weren't made by Capcom, either. (Not to mention Rockman 9/10.)

Exactly that. It's still made by Capcom, simply a different branch of the same company.

A third party is a third party. The game is licensed to them

No, but Inti was founded by former Capcom employees, some of which worked on various Mega Man games before leaving. So I guess you could say it's Capcom in spirit.

Kinda like the dev team that made Viewtiful Joe and Okami? Clover Studios was it? Sorry I haven't played those games in forever. Also I forgot to thank you for answering my question Flame. =]
