Title: "I has sharp Metal Blades and I'm not afraid to use'em!" More MMUniverse details
Post by: VixyNyan on September 10, 2010, 03:20:43 AM
While the Tokyo Game Show will start soon and have a playable demo of Mega Man Universe ready for play, Snow at Capcom Unity (http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2010/09/09/mega_man_universe_gameplay_overview) keeps us updated with a new interesting look at what the game will offer in the case of customization.

The Character Customization lets you swap different body parts on your character and that will also give you different weapons to use in the game, while the Stage Creation, similar to the one in Mega Man Powered UP (Rockman Rockman), will let you construct a level with the help of specific tiles and enemies, and also be able to share them with others whenever one feels like it.

Now, something you might notice, is that with each body part and tweaks done to the character, there are different attributes that will be raised or lowered. There's LE for Life Energy, WE for Weapon Energy, SHOT which could be the strength or the speed rate of the shot that you fire with the buster, MOVE is the movement speed of the character, and JUMP is the strength of the jumping ability, meaning you can jump higher with a long bar. Along with these attributes, you will also gain a set amount of Weapons, enhancements in the sense of Chip Slots, and also items you can use through Item Payload.

In the Character Select screen, you can also see Kimoto-style Roll who will help you out with instructions or hints in the game.

Man, I hope the character creation tool won't be limited to swapping existing body parts. Causae there are so many characters I want to create in MegaMan Universe that's not Capcom specific. In the first trailer hints that 8-bit megaman would be playable, and we haven't seen 8-bit megaman in action yet. I wonder what kind of limits in terms of visuals there will be in the character builder.

Anyway. This game is going to be AWESOME!

Mega Metal Man, FTW!

MODNATION MEGA MAN [tornado fang] YEAH
But in all seriousness, I like this. Another creation game to occupy my time that isn't ModNation Racers.

By the way, are there any details regarding whether there will be new Robot Masters?

Am I the only one here who wants a completely 8-bit Megaman game with an in depth character creation system a-la 3D Dot Game Heroes?

Plus full buster customization? (That was we can indeed get Ryu to play? :3)

It would be cool if we were able to make our own tiles, or even our own bosses. But well, I won't be able to play it anyway, so whatever :(

You can dress up Megaman like Roll, but it'll technically be a trap, but neither have anything that matters anyway, so you can throw panties and a dress on a skin-tone Megaman with long blonde hair and nothing of value would be lost.

...if you LIKE shitty graphics or have some kind of fetish with it, that's fine by me. Good graphics mean GOOD GRAPHICS, not "every game needs to be in 3D", I do mean that the graphics of the game itself  look bad, the game looks ugly, the textures are [parasitic bomb], and honestly, lots of other people have been complaining about it.

So yes, good graphics, such as good sound, good gameplay and good replay factor are important for a game's quality. Any game.

While I will admit that good graphics are nice to have in a game, they're not necessary. It's up to the developers to determine how they want the graphics. We get what we get. Personally, I don't care for graphics. So many people [sonic slicer]ed about Wind Waker's graphics, yet it's regarded as one of the best Zelda games nonetheless.

Yes they ARE. See, Wind Waker's graphics are [tornado fang]ing beautiful! Wind Waker is one of the games I know with the best and most timeless graphics of all time.

Jesus Christ, I just explained what good graphics are. They don't mean REALISM, they mean BEAUTY. Games which have graphics far from realistic can be absolutely gorgeous. But ugly games are always ugly. This is what I mean. Not detailed graphics, but GOOD ones. A good-looking game.

Just because games with good graphics and bad gameplay are bad, doesn't mean that a game with good game play and bad graphics is good. Good graphics are good, good gameplay is good. From what we've seen, gameplay looks solid. It should not make us bad people to want graphics that match the gameplay's quality.

tl;dr
Graphics: Don't need to be good, but a game with bad graphics for no reason is unacceptable.

I think I get what you mean SB. For instance, 8-bit graphics are NOT bad. However, if MM9 and 10 had looked like the original donkey kong, that would have been bad.
IMO Mega man Universe needs some AA and a few more polys to be considered a game with good graphics.

Yes they do. They need to be good. Graphics need to be good because a game needs to look good. The visual aspect is half of the whole experience. Not just the gameplay, but what you SEE.

Let me give you a good example of an ugly game.

This is Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon. It's an XBox game. It's [tornado fang]ing UGLY. It has bad graphics.

This is Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. It's a Game Boy 8-bit black-and-white game. It has awesome graphics.

Everyone, get it through your thick [tornado fang]ing heads once and for all. Good graphics are NOT ABOUT TECHNOLOGY. They are about A GAME LOOKING GOOD. A game could have the most detailed graphics ever and still be [tornado fang]ing ugly, because it has bad graphics. It's not about technology, it's about if it looks good or not. And half of the experience is about the game looking good. The other half is playing well.

Personal taste and quality are two different things.

A person can have Big Rigs and Daikatana as his favorite games of all time, in which he or she had the best game experience ever.

Quality is based on graphical beauty, intuitive controls, level design, replay value, if the game has bugs or crashes or other things... Not really on taste.

Although yes, beauty IS subjective, but it's still not hard to measure in terms of gameplay graphics.

While I agree aesthetics do help, even those are purely subjective. You brought up Wind Waker as a game with good aesthetics (to which I personally agree), however it's ridiculous how many people think that game looks bad. No one gives a [parasitic bomb] about quality if it doesn't appeal to them. To them, if it doesn't appeal to them it's automatically bad. While this is certainly a less than ideal way to look at it, that's just the way it goes.

This doesn't apply to just graphics. Controls work smooth like butter for some people, but for some reason it doesn't work quite as well for others. Level design is a bit easier to qualify quality-wise, but even that depends entirely to a person's tastes. Lots of people perfectly liked the level design in Sonic Unleashed for example, yet that doesn't apply to everyone. Replay value... oh boy, that one's pretty subjective as well. Some games may offer more content that would make it seem like it has replay value, but if no one wants to replay the game who cares? (I'm thinking heavily of Shadow the Hedgehog on that one). Bugs and crashes / game stability is pretty much the most concrete thing to quantify as far as quality goes, but even then we get the oddities where people embrace the bugs in the game and love to use them (Metroid series in general for example).

Just look at this very forum. It's not hard to see how much personal tastes play such a huge role in how people judge the quality of a game. Point is, there is no universal scale to judge things by.

I already made the point that asthetic is subjective.

Plus, everyone hated WW's graphics when it was coming out and they asked for more OOT.

...then they got TP and now they want more WW. Forget about it. Graphics-wise, Wind Waker is still the most beautiful cel-shaded game of all time. And it will continue to stand through time as a great game with graphics that just don't grow old because of their cartoony nature.

Actually, I was a huge fan of WW style when it was revealed.

Also, I'd argue that ZOE2 is the most beautiful cel-shaded game of all time.

Yknow, Capcom has been sort of I dunno... lazy in the graphics department as of late. And I dont mean the  bit thing, but when they have 3D graphics, they under utilize the system potential. X8 didnt look so great, and MHX even less, (hell, they simplified Zero's helmet design in MHX just so they wouldn't need to add more curves to the model) Command mission was good, but could have been better.

Then theres X7. X7, for all the problems with it, was actually a very good looking game, i think- compared to some of the 3D graphics ones that came after. Plus it was cell shaded, which added to its smooth look. (something that X8 initially had but they removed for some damn reason)

Maybe im just nuts, but thats how it seems to me.

ZOE2 is cel-shaded? I don't consider it cel-shaded. More of an anime asthetic than that.

I still think WW holds the title because of its amazing character expressions, tiny little details and fantastic animations.

Yeah, they added Cel-shading to ZOE2, which honestly gave the Oribital Frames a much better and more dynamic look to them.

It wasnt a gripe this time, its true- Check MMX OCW. They talk about simplifying the helmet design for the sake of the model.

Although when I think it over, its not exactly THAT relevant... Its just a very odd case in which they for some reason, decided to design Zero according to his in game model.. which was weird, since its no strange thing for an in game sprite to look one way and the art work another. (see Megaman's 8 bit sprite vs his artwork)

More or less agreed, however I believe that Command Mission's visuals are superior to X7's, both technically and aesthetically.

Yes, since X8, Capcom has gotten visually lazy.  You don't even have to look at their 3D to see it, just look at how they handle X's armored mugshots in X8, and the complete lack of any such thing in MHX.

It wasnt a gripe this time, its true- Check MMX OCW. They talk about simplifying the helmet design for the sake of the model.
Man speaks truth.  Page 138, Zero's MHX concept art captions.

I think Yoshikawa is a little too down-to-earth for his own good; he tends to over-obsess over mundane details with the "toy designer" approach (the MHX gauntlet redesign is my textbook definition of pointless), and yes, the deliberately low-poly designs are hard to read as anything but cheap.  Another of his design quirks that bugs me is the fact that he lines up busters by the elbow, rather than by the wrist (compare any MHX art, concept or final, to Zero taking aim in TDoS's simulation, and you'll see what I mean).

In defiance to Capcom's "limited to no camera" policy, Destructoid's Jonathan Holmes managed to record a good chunk of Mega Man Universe gameplay directly from the game's booth at TGS, capturing the footage via a hidden camera in his shirt pocket. The resulting video isn't too bad -- shaky, yes, but it shows off quite a bit of stuff... stuff were weren't intended to see.
My interest has been re sparked somewhat. The graphics do look much better.

Gameplay does look fun. lol at how he thought Roll was some sort of Cut-woman. But thats  forgivable, given that scissor like bow.

haha! what BS!
For the longest time, Capcom only cared about Japanese sales, and While the games sold very well over here, they sold poorly in Japan, which was at the time, more interested with Pokemon. (which is why games like Battle Network and Star Force did well there, they are of the same RPG collect em all type) ZX sold well because it was innovative, introducing the Metroidvania interconnected map style. ZXA did not sell that well over there. So we never got a ZX3.

Suuure. Go ahead Cappy. Put the blame on the foreigners.

theres a reason why recently Capcom has started to care about overseas sales with games like Universe, which is even using the overrseas name.
Because they realized that otherwise, megaman would not survive if they only looked at japan sales.

    * Mega Man X and Zero are possible playable characters. All characters in the game consist of four body parts, so it would be very easy to implement the two.

    * Despite the potential for X and Zero, there are no plans to support other Mega Man series gameplay aspects such as wall kicking, dashing or hovering.

    * Rush type items may be in the game; the exception to the no hovering rule.
    * Ryu and Arthur (Ghost n' Ghouls) are reconfirmed as being playable, each with their own unique weaponry (Arthur’s lance, Ryu’s hadouken).

    * You can make your own bosses using a variety of body parts.
    * Capcom will be establishing some sort of algorithm in order to ensure customized stages are both playable and beatable.
    * Overheard by the author of the post, MMU may support the ability to put custom graphics into the game. The demo featured banners with the Comic-Con logo embedded into stage backgrounds.

    * Players will be able to vote on their favorite user created stages and bosses via a community interface. The best ones will be featured.
    * Capcom is striving to create a "Mega Man game that never gets old." This will be made possible by the imaginations of its players.

Looks like we will be able to make our own bosses and beat them as well, according to the info provided.

Yeah, I'd say so.

Did you take a careful look at this boss contest?
Explain the explicit use of EXE2 Navis, then. I too should be asking you to look at the date.

It was just a random comment =/

...besides it's past 3 AM here and I've had to do all-nighters all week.

Still doesn't change the fact that your link is old though.

the real prank would be to announce cancellation on april fool's day so that everyone says "nah you're joking"

and then IT'S REALLY CANCELLED

if that happens i can't even tell you how many people are gonna rage

I was planning on doing that for an April Fools once. But then I realised that if the joke isn't actually a joke, which is the actual joke, then it could turn out really awkward.

But I've been thinking. What if they announced it as a joke just to gauge the fans' reactions to the fact that it's cancelled... You know, to watch sadly at how many people celebrate it =w=a

From what I've seen, its canning was met with much apathy.

Yeah, Japan doesn't really care,

DASH 3 will most likely get canned as well.

Neither game had any support from capcom at all, and now that Inafune is gone, they're both screwed.

Well, from day one that gameplay was shown of Universe, People complained...

Legends 3 was met with cheers worldwide though. If Capcom has ANY brains, they will know that pushing out an L3 will net them a nice sum of cash, considering how its one of the most wanted Capcom games ever.

If they DO can it though, then I WILL have to call Inafune out on not staying on board at *LEAST* until L3 was far enough into development that it was safe to say it couldnt be scrapped.

That's until Gold. Even if greenlighted, they can scrap it anytime until it's released.

PS: Today's news article should have been.

While great games, both Dash 1 and 2 had horrible sales. And most of the "fan demand" comes from a small fanbase.

I doubt capcom would care about any spare change DASH 3 would bringing win they have SF4/MvC3, Monster hunter, and all their actually successful franchises making cash.

A fanbase strong enough for DASH3 to be "the fans' game". Don't underestimate it.

Legends does have a rather loyal fanbase. But the vocal main muscle of that fanbase is located in japan. So, even if Legends 3 comes, there's no guarantee it will be localized.
Anyway, as I said in the other thread: Expect the worst, hope for the best.

As for Universe... I think it really is dead, is it?

Well if its dead, capcom will lose a lot of potential customers and fans and thus money.

Ugh, I guess it is true. I just can't believe it. I would really like to hear the exact reason(s), though. Cause I'm sure they're not canning it because the demo was slipshoddy. If it is because of Inafune's departure and/or the earthquake, I'd understand.

Same reason they'd cancel any project... Cutting their losses. That is, sales profits are expected to be less than money spent on development from now to probably time of finishing.

Still, it would had been nice to see all the Megamen taking some evil cosmic entity from destroying the multiverse. Well I can still dream....... ;^;  ;O;

Sorry, Capcom couldn't hear you over the sales of Monster Hunter, MvC3, and SSF4.

Compared to the revenue any of those make, Dash couldn't even hope to make 1% of their profits. Especially when the MH games each sell in the 4 million range. (AND just in japan)
