Title: NES Games - The Old Times
Post by: Acid on June 20, 2009, 07:01:52 PM
Let's have a nostalgia thread. Here's a small collection of fun or frustrating games.
(Right click --> Show image for full size)

Feel free to add your own  gems.

And a general question: Are there any games you'd like to see remade? Or Do you want a sequel to a certain game/series?

That's why I said I need more Darkwing Duck.
Do want a new installment, but a remake is welcome.

Ahh, TMNT3 Turtle Select! owo

In addition to the TMNTIV remake (that will hopefully be on Wii), I really hope they put TMNT 3 on the VC. ...maybe 2, but that one's a bit harder.

Well, I'd love to see all the Disney Afternoon NES games get a nice update or so.  If the voice actors would be willing, it'd be so nice to have some kick ass voice work from the original voice actors.  I'm sure Jim Cummings would love to do Darkwing again.

Castlevania 2 is in dire need of a remake. a full blown Metroidvania version of that would rock. also, it's only a matter of time before IGA does a Castlevania 3 Chronicles.

I think that Kid Icarus definitely needs a new series/game.  With the Wii Sports Resort showing of Archery, I think it could be done very well as a 3D Adventure style game.

Kid Icarus has so much damn potential for a new game it's frightening. So does StarTropics which also needs a new entry or even a full on reboot. There's a lot that can and should be done with these two series.

I would love that, but I doubt Little Nemo would have the same impact anymore, great game that it was.

On the plus side, there's a new Boy & His Blob coming, and so far everyone is saying it's fan-[tornado fang]ing-tastic.

The games that we only played is Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and Mickey Mousecapade. Those were the great games since our cousins give them to use! I also played Mother 1 on my emulator and Doki Doki Panic.

Hell yeah! I'd love to play Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers 3
And it should be better if it's from Capcom, like the old days.

I'm sure Jim Cummings would love to do Darkwing again.
Let's get dangerous [eyebrow]

Man, I recognized all of those. I feel old now.

I want a new old-school style Castlevania. Something like 3, preferably. 2 would be nice, but the line between that one and the Metroidvanias would be hard to tell, if you ask me. Especially if Iga does it, then it'll just be another Metroidvania.

Can we pretend it's not past the 100-year anniversary of the comic strip and make something in celebration?

NES games which I have fond memories are Adventure Island Series specially III & IV, Rockman 3 & 6, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, G.I Joe 2 Atlantis Factor, Hi no tori, Mickey Mousecapade, Milon Secret Castle, Mickey's Safari in Letterland *Oooh boy! Uhuh! uhuh!*, & Choujin Sentai Jetman.

And just recently I discovered Crystalis. What a game.  owob

I really want Hudson Soft to make Adventure Island V. They can further improved the Dinosaur system. Let say this time Master Hiigins is the one being kidnap & it's up to the his Dino pals to save the day.

Then Crystalis truly deserves a PROPER remake!!!

Milon's Secret Castle 8D

That's a balls-to-the-wall hard game there. Try to get past the first level without using a guide, I DARE you muthafucker*. God knows what the developers could do if they were able to work with 3D o.o

*I'm talking about first runs too.

Well, I'm changing my opinion of SMB3 from "Meh." to "Pretty decent!"

What caused the change?

Pros:
~Short stages. Makes gameplay addicting.
~Reasonable difficulty. If you do die, it's just a simple matter of picking yourself back up and giving it another go.

Cons:
~Amount of focus required gets annoying. Projectile, enemy, and hazard movement patterns aren't hard, but don't let you by any means whiz through the stage, either.
~All the cool new suits don't last long, do not appear as frequently. This goes back to the above, but it's also more about the suits not showing as frequently.

So as far as being some sort of glorious "standard" by which new Mario games should be made, it fails at that. But it does showcase some things done the right way.

Was that your first time with SMB3?
Title: Re: NES Games - The Old Times

I play SMB3 so little, I might as well be playing it for the first time.

SMB1 and SMB2USA, though, breeze through.

EDIT: Even then, though, I still don't let the fact that I've played those 2 a lot affect my judgment on them. SMB1 is a good balance, though you can be in some tight spots if you don't start as Super or Fire Mario. And SMB2USA can be hard for some, especially the first time. Even then, it's a little tricky, but like SMB3, just pick yourself back up.

How is it NES games were SO DAMN FRUSTRATINGLY HARD? O:< There are some I couldn't even get past the first level right...(Including Pit's game...Can't pull up the name of it now, though, for some reason. Tried it for a good solid month..Heck, even the first zelda game was a pain in the arse D: Compared to the SNES one at least.)

Psh, I prolly fall into the category of 'newer games are too hard but the old ones are too easy' though, so yeah.
