Mucho thanx to GoNintendo for the Nostalgic Orgasmic Press Release (http://gonintendo.com/?p=76321#more-76321)

Gonna just steal their bike Copy/Pasta the PR...

    Category: Boxing
    Age rating: 7+
    Players: 1-2
    Publisher: Nintendo
    Release date: 22/05/2009

The legendary Punch-Out!! is back with a vengeance on Wii, but this time it packs an even bigger punch! Featuring all of the well-known characters from Glass Joe to Von Kaiser, superb duck and weave action, and the addition of enhanced functionality for Wii, the game returns for another assault on Europe on 22 May 2009.

After a flawless fight record on the NES and Super NES, Punch-Out!! revives the story of Little Mac as you follow his journey from up-and-coming boxer in the Bronx, NY to undisputed World champion. The game reunites the much-loved mean men of the World Video Boxing Association, who Little Mac must challenge and defeat one-by-one. The truly international line-up of characters includes all the wacky favourites from Von Kaiser, to King Hippo and tireless trainer Doc Louis.

The game brings the tactics and skills of boxing to Wii as you spot weaknesses in your opponent’s armoury – such as changes in their body position – and exploit them with your best upper cuts, hooks and jabs. However, this time the game packs even more power with bold new 3D graphics and the introduction of the motion sensing controls of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to give a more instinctive boxing experience as you weave, bob and duck your way to the top!

Punch-Out!! on Wii offers great new control opportunities, utilising both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to let you mimic the movements of the left and right hands as you let the leather fly. Meanwhile, the “classic” control system, invites you to use the Wii Remote in a sideways position to simulate the original NES controller and gives the real retro fight feel that Punch-Out!! fans love.

Punch-Out!! Will certainly bring the thrills of the big ring to Wii and will give you the chance to experience fight night in the comfort of your own living room. It’s seconds out and time for round one!

    ——————————

Get your gloves on and return to the ring – Punch-Out!! is making a comeback! Originally a hit on the Nintendo Entertainment System back when boxers still fought for 15 rounds, the newest installment in the series comes out swinging on Wii.

An intuitive control scheme takes you closer to the action in the ring than ever before! Unleash hooks, uppercuts and Star Punches by swinging the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, or flip your controller sideways to enjoy the classic NES control scheme.

As big-hearted Bronx brawler Little Mac, you’ll have to launch a one-man assault on the boxing world as you bid to become undisputed champ of the Minor, Major and World ranking organisations. Along the way you’ll lock horns with the likes of Glass Joe, Don Flamenco and the hard-hitting King Hippo. A total of 13 flamboyant fighters stand in your path, every one with a creative new way of trying to make sure you end up face-down on the canvas.

Thankfully, Little Mac can fight back. Armed with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, punching is a simple case of taking a swing at your opponent whilst holding different combinations of buttons. Soften them up with jabs by pressing up on the Nunchuk Control Stick when you punch, or crash home a super-charged Star Punch by holding the C or A Buttons as you let your hands go.

Of course, if you intend to master the sweet science you’ll have to learn how to hit and not get hit. Punch-Out!! calls on you to keep a close eye on your opponents and learn their attack patterns – hopefully leaving them swiping at fresh air and open to a crashing counter. If it all sounds like a lot to remember when the leather starts flying, you’ll be glad to know the game features a helpful tutorial mode to make sure you get to grips with the basics before you climb through the ropes.

Ultimately, you’ll no doubt want to make sure you’re rightfully recognised as the pound-for-pound king of the ring. Punch-Out!! includes a multiplayer mode that lets you and a friend slug it out to the bitter end. As in the single player mode, you’ll want to land punches at the right moment to build up Star Punch points that translate into almighty haymakers! Landing and dodging blows in Head-to-Head mode also builds up a Giga Mac gauge. Once full, your fighter is ready to inflict some serious damage.

Have you always thought you could have been a contender? Then get ready to rumble in the all-action Punch Out!! for Wii.

    * Fight it out in Career and Exhibition modes or challenge a friend in Head-to-Head mode.
    * Play using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for a hard-hitting and immersive experience!
    * Go retro by holding the Wii Remote sideways like a NES controller and pounding home punches with a simple press of the 1 and 2 Buttons.

I believe that's the European release date, but who cares?  I can.not [tornado fang]ing wait for this game.  I've been looking forward to it since the Wii came out!   8)

I'd be much more excited over a regular KO, but a TKO is fine too.
I already have Victorious Boxers(Hajime no Ippo) and I love it.
I'll probably rent this for the sake of the franchise though.

Well, I'm glad that's the European release, 'cuz it's right before my wedding. >w<  I was afraid I'd be late on picking that one up.

This game will rock all socks, definitely my most anticipated Wii release at the moment.

OK, so the final boss in the original was Mike Tyson. Can't be brought back due to licensing issues. All that's left would be a parody of a famous boxer.

Any ideas?

Well, Nintendo may surprise us, but I'm not expecting anything that original, considering that they could just as easily either revisit Mr. Dream, or just stop at Super Macho Man.

In all seriousness, more games SHOULD offer that kind of choice, whether the new controls work or not.  Just as different people have different tolerances for a game controller, they also have different tolerances for pointers and motion sensors.  If you go the other way exclusively, your audience isn't any wider, it's just different.

That's something I've never really been able to forgive Star Fox Command for.

They could always just move on to Evander Holyfield, the guy who took Mike down.  8D

Barring that, I wouldn't be at all opposed to seeing the Bruiser Bros. return from Super. I didn't like too much of the SPO lineup, but the Bruisers were cool.

I thought the Bruiser Bros. were a parody of the Klitschko Bros.? Anyway, I would like to see them return.

Or make another famous Nintendo character the boss. Like Wario. That would be amazing.

Sega will drop some money for a cash-in, so the game will include Knuckles the Echidna.

I believe that was supposed to be the case. Thus, why I could certainly see them back.

It'd certainly be preferable to just having Mr. "Palette Swap" Dream again...

now all we need is character select, and I'm in heaven. I'm hoping for an actual boxer to appear too though.

But that's asking for too much.

You must defeat Captain Falcon to stand a chance.

What'd make this even more epic is if your "Star Punches" turned into Falcon Punches if you somehow managed to beat him. After all - you just beat friggin' Captain Falcon.

That would be the most _EPIC battle in all of video game history ever!
Imagine if nintendo actually made this happen.

(to those of you wondering why I placed an underline before _epic, it's because for some reason the forums seems to keep changing the word "_epic" without the underline to "epic".)

Plus, it'd bring a whole new level to RPM Punch Out.

For example characters, new ring surroundings, challenges, vicory animations, etc. We packed the disc to the brim and there were a few things we had to leave out because there wasn't any space left. We're the first internal Nintendo dev team that came across this problem with the Wii DVDs, so you're definitely getting a lot of things!

How PB's mind tends to work...

We also asked the team what, of all the characters in the Punch-Out franchise, is their favorite. While Piston Honda and Soda Popinsky were mentioned by the two Japanese producers, both Next Level members mentioned Doc Louis as their overwhelming choice. They made note that they have huge plans for the character, but stopped short of saying that he's a playable fighter.

AWESOME!.  Piston Honda & Soda Popinsky RETURN.  Wait a moment....

It'd be interesting if there was like a "prequel" story mode that you could unlock, that chronicled Doc's own career some years before he trained Mac.

That would mean you get to fight as a younger version of Doc. Such a character might FINALLY have what it takes to dethrone Falcon as the manliest Nintendo character ever....  0v0 0v0

But really...bravo. I put my $5 down on this game at GS yesterday...

Also....

Doc Louis is incredibly charming as your ringside coach and offers the same level of advice, both useful and useless, all voice acted. He even hilariously asks you to join the Nintendo Fun Club before correcting himself, advertising Club Nintendo instead.

Still, Mac has to fight the world in this one.

Ahhhhh Perry Bible Fellowship.   8)

SAY IT LOUD.

Really though, I'd love that.

My issue is when you hit him and he doesn't counter-punch, sucks too much time.  To get around that I block his punches instead of dodging, that way at least if you're tired, you know he'll attack, and you can whack him back when your hearts are restored.

GI: The Bruisers?

Yeeloy: Yeah! The Bruiser Brothers! We had them in there for a while. They were part of our roster for a while, but they quickly fell out, because we felt that there were elements of them as we tried to develop them and tried to figure out how they’d fit in with the other characters, we felt they didn’t fit in as well. Some of that’s due to the personality types, but it also gave us an opportunity to create new characters. Like Disco Kid is a new character.

There goes two of the SNES boxers.

The ONM review gives a VERY interesting bit of information and no one has posted it?

Quote
You see, as with all great boxing champions, once Little Mac wins the belt, he has to defend it. In this case, by fighting again against everyone he's already fought. "Fair enough," we thought, "at least we already know how to beat them all". Ah, how foolish of us. This string of title defences comes under the heading of "World B", and every opponent is significantly harder than they were before.

Take Glass Joe, for example. He's long been the butt of many a Punch Out!! joke. Having never won a match, he's by far the easiest opponent in the game thanks to his glass jaw (hence the name). Before defending the belt against him though, a cut-scene shows him going to the doctor. The doctor show him an X-ray and explains that his jaw is weak, giving him a headguard to protect it. As a result, punches to the head no longer faze him. His fighting style is much trickier now too. When he leans back to punch, he'll sometimes fake it, making you dodge at the wrong time and leaving you open.

The result of this? We lost the fight. To Glass Joe. Glass Joe couldn't even fight sleep, and here we are on the receiving end of a walloping from the worst fighter in the game.
With this one defeat, all our worries about the game's difficulty and our annoyance at Next Level Games completely disappeared. The extreme difficulty continues throughout World B, and turns the experience from a heart-crushingly easy game, to what is far and away the most difficult and punishing Punch Out!! yet. And we loved every minute of it.

Considering each fighter has a completely new set of moves the second time around, it's effectively 26 opponents instead of 13, making the game much longer and much, much more harder.

Quote
And the final surprise will please everyone, but we're sworn to secrecy on that....

Pros:
+ Looks absolutely incredible
+ Boxers ooze character
+ Classic Punch Out!! gameplay
+ Easy for n00bs, hard for pros

Cons:
- Multiplayer mode is weak

Overall:
The best Punch Out!! game yet. Accessible for newcomers, but a real challenge for experts.

Total Score: 91% (Gold Award)

And more here. (http://highdefgeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8795)

- In the Time Rankings against Nick Bruiser (Super Punch-Out!!) you see G.Joe's name there. ^^;
- Because of the Doc Louis trailer, people say Doc lost to Glass Joe because of that. xD
- No one seem to remember the Punch-Out Valiant Comics. Little Mac was fighting Glass Joe there too. :3
- Wiki says Gabby Jay was his successor and his boxing student. Glass Joe was the only opponent Gabby Jay won against.

I was all over the place yesterday, though I did manage to get in and hang around for 15 minutes before I had to go run another errand for the folks. The place was lively, Punch-Out is the game of the first half of 09, it has some of the most beautiful animation ever, and my game comes in this week.

Life is sweet.

Very. I can't see it being on the same level of hidden boss greatness as KH1 Sephiroth or even Bass.EXE, though.

I'm playing and loving it.  Only thing that ticks me off about it is that Mac's version of the fight music won't play in Exhibition, so if you like it, you have to start new Profiles and redo Career mode.

But man, this game is FRIKKIN HARD.  I only ever got to Super Macho Man on the NES, but even so, the way opponents screw with you in punch timing and specific dodge directions is quite evil.  But the game is no less badass, and I love it.  Thus far I've crawled my way up to Piston Honda in Title Defense.

BTW, Soda Popinski's animation during a 10 count had me laughing my ass off. 8)

He's even more hilarious when you find out who else his VA did.

Also, I was thinking that they should remake/port the original arcade Punch-Out's to the DSi via DSiWare. I mean, those games did use a dual-monitor system, so it'd be fitting for the DSi. Should they be remade, they should be mashed together to make one game.

Well, today I returned to Wii Punch-Out!! and beat Super Macho Man on Title Defense, so I can watch the girls drooling over Mac any time. 8)

I'm curious, am I the only one who's relying on pattern memorization to tackle the last half of World S?  'cuz the way this game screws with you in timing and wrong dodge directions gets a bit unbearable when a split-second punch is always a threat.  Sure, I can TKO Super Macho Man in Round 1, but that's after enough trial-and-error to know the order of every punch he'll throw for the first two knockdowns.  To me, it seems that reflexes alone won't get you anywhere this late in the game, especially defending against Sandman.  *shudder*  Kind of a bummer.
