Banjo-Kazooie and old Rareware fans unite, because some of the old devs from before Microsoft ran them into the ground got together to form Playtonic Games (http://www.playtonicgames.com/) and start up their own title; Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to the good ol' bear and bird duo. Like a lot of games lately, they went to Kickstarter to help fund the game (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival) but unlike most actually had a game basis to work with rather than simply a concept. A sample video is available on the site, alongside two song samples from Grant Kirkhope and David Wise.
Unlike when I posted Mighty No. 9 almost two years ago to see if people wanted to support it, though, here's the thing; yesterday the Kickstarter began, and around 40 minutes or less the game already met its goal of 270k in US dollars. They've pretty much broken all the primary stretch goals in a single day, when Grant was expecting, say, a week for the base funding to go through. Since there was no topic otherwise for this, I figured I might as well post it to spread the info around.

I just realized the name is a spin on Ukelele.
I feel like a moron for not catching that earlier.
-
I didn't get a chance to play Banjo-Kazooie (outside of the XBLA demo), but this looks promising. Not sure why they want $1.2 million for a developer Let's Play, though.
-
I went in, for the steam game and demo.
-
Oh yeah, I backed this.
-
Same.
Digital Deluxe tier, pretty much the same amount of cash money I typically give to kickstarters ($40-$60)
-
My buddy won 500 bucks off the kentucky derby and put half towards this.
I would back it but I am broke D:

Same here. :C I would give anything for a boxed copy of the game.
-
OK I backed this game up... this is going to be REAL good. ^_^

Fans made a mini animation short about the game:

I thought this was better good and the little nod to Banjo-Kazooie was nice too. XD

"You can't trust this lot, it'll probably have car sections by then."
Ha! 8D
Can't wait for this to come out-the Donkey Kong Country style minecart bits made me sooo happy.
-
I might actually get this game, it looks more fun than the Banjo Kazooie games to me.
-
I have good memories of DKC64 so I'm looking forward to this. owo
-
What? How come they didn't insult their primary audience?? [parasitic bomb] trailer. Not one single nerd joke.
-
Because Playtonic doesn't have enough classy ladies like Deep Silver does. Playtonic needs more classy ladies. 8D

I thought that was a jab at Nuts & Bolts personally. I laughed.
-
I am so glad I backed this game right now.

It pretty much is, and I love it. XD

Yep thats why it made me laugh so much, screw nuts and bolts. 8D
-
Though Nuts & Bolts was still fun I hear.
Hmm.. I have the game, I should play it to see for myself.
On topic, I am so glad I backed this game as well. It's going to be fun and there's going to be great jokes as well! 8)

Yooka-Laylee is up for pre-order on GOG.com (https://www.gog.com/game/yookalaylee), Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/360830/), and Humble Store (https://www.humblebundle.com/store/yooka-laylee) (which gives only a Steam key as far as I'm aware), which gets you access to the Toy Box for Windows and Macintosh until the game's eventual release in Spring 2017.
-
Wii U version was cancelled. If you backed for that version, you'll be able to change your version or get a full refund. They may also make a Switch port down the line.
-
Pretty sure they said a Switch thing was a sure thing, that they definitely plan on doing that.
