Post by: Jericho on May 01, 2009, 10:18:25 PM
Sooooo, how did no one catch this one? Seems like there's a traveling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle tour that's doing promotions for one hell of a game. What is it you ask?

Also just about the best damn post I've ever seen in my life on this subject:

Where did THIS come from?! Out of no where! O.O

Alleycat Blues it all the way to the Wii, please~ >U<

I guess I have to get a 360 after all...

Just for that, we're gonna have to travel back through time and enjoy the game again.

The only difference noticed was the bosses for the "Skull and Crossbones" are Tokka and Rahzar (unlike the original, which had Bebop and Rocksteady).

This is the Arcade version. ^^b

It's 360 & Wii rumored so far, but no note on PSN sadly. :(

Also, details:

Quote
At last week's Galabunga events in NYC, the debut of the Turtles' Party Van also revealed that a "new" TMNT video game - not the already revealed "Smash-up" game for the Wii - was in development. New, yet a game all TMNT fans are familiar with: "Turtles in Time." Only now it's been updated using modern 3D graphics. Mega TMNT fan Jason Koza was at the event (in his Casey Jones costume!) and provides the following info and pics of the game.

* The game is set up and directly taken from TMNT Turtles in Time.
* Right now it's only going to be for Xbox Live, but they're working on bringing it to Wii (Virtual Console?).
* It has the same music as the old game.
* Only the levels "Alleycat Blues" and "Skull and Crossbones" were playable.
* The only difference noticed was the bosses for the "Skull and Crossbones" is Tokka and Rahzar (unlike the original, which had Bebop and Rocksteady).
* For Alleycat Blues the boss is still Metalhead.
* The game is basically Turtles in Time with new graphics - Awesome!

It's "Turtle Time" All over again.. god I miss those shows. I don't like "Fast Foward" and a few other plot elements though, they were slightly dissapointing.

Fast Foward should've been a part of "Turtles in Time" Story Arc, which should not have done seprately.. but damn I need an Xbox.

Well....after the interesting day I had at work, this was JUST the type of pick-me-up I needed. :)

...But really? No PSN release? Wii release details is dubious at best? C'mon, now guys! Screw the console wars, this should be something that EVERYONE should be allowed to play (as long as they have a current-gen system)! ^_^;

I'd also hope that they may just add more to the package deal. After all, if they're not just going to give us TMNT TiT the arcade port verbatim, they might as well just do more with it overall, even if they feel like they GOTTA divorce the 80s toon/Archie cartoon material present (Bebop, Rocksteady, and probably Slash too, unfortunately).

I mean, if it's just going to be the arcade port with a 3D skin and new music, they could have just given us the original, in all of us 2D glory, with the altered music.

Ah well....can I at least get "Pizza Power" as a song included, again?  8D

Well this is THE BEST FREAKIN' TMNT GAME EVER, so this would be a good time to start, Rad!

Yeah, as multiplat as TMNT stuff goes lately, I have a hard time believing this will only be for XBLA. And even if it somehow didn't make it to the Wii (I doubt it, see the recent TMNT game for the movie), we're at the very least sure to get the SNES original, and that's one of the last few games on my VC wishlist.

This project, this remake, is epic already on the basis of remixed music alone. Now throw in a great, fun, co-op geared side-scrolling brawler on top of that with the TMNT theme, and this will be Killer App for whatever system it's on!

Surely they won't use SNES soundfont on a next-gen game.

Also, does this game even have any cons of any sort? Easy and Normal are very easy, and some might say the game is a bit too long, but those aren't even that bad!

Same here, especially in the case of TiT and Hyperstone Heist.

In those games, I would like to think that if you really wanted to be a combo power-house, you stuck with the two bros that had short range weapons with good speed. That way, it's much easier to be able to grab suckers and toss 'em all over the damn place!

Oh, NO you're not!

Back in the days of Zsnes's fledgling online support, this was probably the number one game I liked to play with peeps. It really is a well made game, even if it's nothin' really revolutionary.

And that's to certain "Wii hookups", I've been able to start people playing the awesome SNES game again.

Bought insta-[tornado fang]ing-ly.  Possibly on every system it's released for, so I can be sure to Mikey it up with everyone here who has online capability.  Oh man, if only this could be a combination of the Arcade game & the superior SNES game, then this would be all types of sexcellent sexcellence!  Three things too:

#1. I still have TMNT: Tournament Fighters.  I still say Don is the most broken character in the game...  *in RubyRed voice* BUTWHOCARES? Don't "ASKA ME?"  8D

#2.  CHROME SPARK!

I dunno, Blues-y. In my opinion, I'd give the arcade rendition of this song just a BIT of an edge, because I think it sounds more "foreboding".

But both versions are awesome, that much is indisputable.

except at this point, it sounds like the game is based on the arcade release and not the SNES one. if it doesn't have Technodrome: Let's Kick Shell in it, it's garbage to me. same goes for Rat King, Bebop, Rocksteady, Slash, Super Shredder, and Mode 7'd Neon Night Riders.

That said, maybe the XBLA version is the arcade one remade, and the Wii version would be the SNES remade? I dunno.

Interesting story!  Today, while at Citizens Bank Park in Philiadelphia, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the reps who deals with the TMNT25 anni.  We got to talking about Turtles, she mentioned that the Turtle Party Van was here & heading for Detroit next, going across the US and finishing off at the San Diego Comic Con.  She also gave me her business card too, with her Phone # & E-Mail address on it!  LoL, I love my life!   8)

This is awesome. Even if it's the inferior Arcade version they're working off of, it'll still be a blast to play.

Also, Don is always [tornado fang]ing broken in TMNT games, which is yet another reason he's so awesome.

I don't think I've ever played the arcade version. If it's a little harder and shorter, then I'm not complaining.

Besides, if you're ever in a bind, all ya gotta do is start slamming a Foot Soldier left and right for funky screen clearage! /wii

NOT the case in TMNT Tournament Fighters, especially the case with  the SNES or Genesis versions (been a while since I played the NES one).

In the SNES version, Don was alright, but Raphael and Michelangelo were CLEARLY the best turtles in the game, and easily amongst the top tier of the game, overall. Between Raphael basically being SF2:CE Dictator, minus head-stomp and add a fireball, and Michelangelo being a CRAZY-GOOD Shoto/Charge character, it was no contest. For all the times that Mikey and Raph were low-tiered in other games (ESPECIALLY the first NES game), they really came into their own in the SNES TF release.

Then there was the Genesis release; an absolutely horrid, utterly silly game. Again, in that game, EVERYBODY had an infinite, stemming from just using their throw animation...except for Don! That automatically makes Don bottom tier in that game, for that reason alone! 8D

Wait, what?  How can that be?  Don was [tornado fang]ing godly in TMNT Tournament Fighters.  His regular Fierce Punch Twirling Bo thing stopped essentially ALL air attacks, plus raised his Super Meter up like crazy if they blocked. So did his HEY spinning head trick.

Like I said, in the end, he's alright in the SNES. Probably easily A/B tier material.

But compared to Raph or Mike, it's no contest. They really are just S-class material.

I honestly always though Raph was the worst Turtle.  Mikey I always thought was pretty good, even thought I'm only somewhat good with him.

In order to be "doin' it and doin' it and doin' it WELL" with Raph, again, the basic thing was to think "CE Bison", with a few alterations:

Annoy people with your weak, yet very fast and high priority kicks, use your very good drill when the opportunity presents itself, and his projectile works well with his overall game. You won't be able to Hadouken-spam too much with it due to start up time, but there's no lag afterward. Don's projectile IS faster, but the bo-using turtle's also has quite a bit of lag on the back end, PLUS his hitbox is extended (due to that bo!). That's the kind of thing that a seasoned Raph player should just "Chest Buster" and turn the tide in his favor.  8)

Then there's Raph's Super. Easily one of the best in the game, because it does good damage, whether taken to the face, or blocked, meaning that it's pretty good to use as soon as you get the meter for it.

Also, like Mikey, Raph has set-ups that can lead to 100% Stun and 100% Life combo. You'll likely never get it off against a good opponent, but if you can, you'll make the opposition pay for their mistakes.  8)

I personally wish it was a mix of the two versions. With the good parts of the Arcade Version (Fast motions, Voices, Fluid Animation, 4 players.) and the good parts of the SNES version (More Levels, Super Shredder, Comic/Animation Color Schemes, Bebop and Rocksteady, and Mode-7 style Neon Night Riders.) 8)

i filmed this for gamervision.

1. it was a little kid playing (painfully obvious)
2. it's a port of the ARCADE version, not the SNES one.
3. the reps there said release is "around september"
4. coming out for XBLA and wii. they didn't mention anything about PS3.
5. SAME music as the arcade version. at least it was in this alpha.

So in the Alpha build, it has the same music as the arcade; that means nothing, that could easily change.

Yeah, it's definitely built off the arcade version; look, Bebop and Rocksteady aren't the boss(es) of Skull and Crossbones.

i like the art style. everything's really colorful and fluid. the comic book sound effects are a nice touch. though everything looks bigger than they used to; Big Apple 3 AM looked crowded.

one thing though. where was Leatherhead's hat?

I reiterate what I posted on GT about these videos... I'm not impressed with the music. At all. I sure hope for them that that isn't the final version of the music, because man that's bland. Half the fun of Turtles in Time was kicking ass to the kickass music. If the music isn't kickass anymore, then that's half the kickassness of the game gone in the wind. Doesn't help that it's based on the Arcade version, either. Couldn't they have made a port of the SNES version but with the ability to have 4 players? Now that would be worth it. I dunno, I'm more tempted to just stick with the SNES version as it stands... I'll make my decision once it comes out, though.

Post by: Fxeni on July 15, 2009, 11:17:04 PM
Pretty sure... it's most noticeable in the "Four Player Gameplay" video, where the music switches a few times. The boss music itself is the same between both times a boss is shown as well.

Also, in past videos they just slapped in the SNES music, since that was before they had any music. Now we have something completely original, which I don't exactly like the sound of.

Hey, I could be wrong, and for the sake of the game I sure hope I am.

it's not original songs; the songs were all remixes. and they didn't really bother me. but i'd like for this game to support custom soundtracks, anyway. imo every game should have that option.

by the way, while this was supposed to be released next week, it's now been bumped down to August 5th. (http://kotaku.com/5312000/tmnt-turtles-in-time-re+make-knocked-back-by-splosion-man) [tornado fang] you, Splosion Man. Explodemon looked better.

Lack of kickass boss music = failure.  I agree with Fxeni, half the game's awesomeness is at stake right there.  If they don't step it up prior to release, I'll be happy to stick with the SNES.

Depends on the ass. Depends on the cheese. They both can be really good, or really bad! And neither ages well after a point. And neither look good if they're lumpy, but if they're well-defined, then it's a sight to see. 8D

Sensitive? Holy heck, I wish I could get it to respond!

~Double jump rarely works
~No manual dash
~Extremely hard to throw and slam
~Hitboxes are nigh discernible
~Attack strings can't lead into throws and slams
~Turtles are vulnerable to being hit again and again, creating a lock

This is crazy. Yeah, I did finally beat Hardcore (Shredder was easy), but **** that was hard. Leatherhead, pure single hit and run.

Donatello is pretty much the only way to beat Hardcore thanks to range.

looks like we got another one who was expecting the SNES version. the Arcade version didn't have a manual dash either, and also throws and slams were random in that version. i'd bet getting in a lock was an Arcade thing too.

for double jump, you have to doubletap the jump button very quickly.

I wasn't expecting the SNES version, but you think they'd tweak some archaic controls? Thankfully, I've either figured them out, or found workarounds:

Manual Dash
- Okay actually, no, this is just inane. I don't have a workaround for this except the Special Attack, and that still doesn't give you REAL distance unless you're using Donatello.
Throws and slams - Should be an input. It's strategic. Yeah, you've got screen clearing power, but only on two axes. Use it wisely, or else you'll be open to attack from 2-6 other directions.
Locked - This is an ancient arcade tactic, and should have been fixed, but fortunately it only really kicks in when there are Rock Soldiers or THOSE BLASTED HELIFOOTS. Again, Donatello.
Double Jump - You can only do this at the height of your jump? Pffft. What a load.
