That's right, the humble little block dropping game designed by Alexey Pajitnov and originally made for an IBM system turns 25, meaning it has enough years to clear the Tetris B mode! The points? It has scored 125 million copies sold, not including numerous knock-offs.

Here's the Chicago Tribune's news story.
And here's the Wikipedia, which answers the question, "Can you play one game of Tetris forever?"

Funny how it's also D-Day. The day when the I-block landed on the far right shore causing four lines to disappear Allied troops made their crucial landings in Normandy to turn the tide of WWII.

At any rate, for those of you who fondly remember this game or maybe even cut your gaming teeth on it, celebrate it! Me, I've actually got my old Game Boy here at the house, so I'll play it for a while.
I fixed it and gave it to my mom (she loves Tetris) for her's and my stepdad's first anniversary as a way of saying "No hard feelings."
And another thing. We're going to start seeing a lot of 25th's here, soon. Mario's will be next year, seeing as Super Mario Bros. 1 was released in Japan on September 13, 1985 (granted, that's not Mario's first appearance, but it's certainly the one everyone remembers him by.)

Got Tetris? Post it here!

999,999 Points on the Game Boy version!

Hehe, 25 years eh? It's been a good run so far, I perfer wireless online battles through my DS too~

Workshop/DA/YT/Photobucket なにかんがえてるの!?
So its about ass now huh? EVEN THE ASS HAS 'EXCEEDED'!

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

Yeah, I'm sitting here playing the GB one, now, and it really is a whole new game when you take out the quick drop, ghost piece, and hold functions. I wouldn't say that it's necessarily harder, but it does take a different approach.

My dad never use a hold function.
Even I told him how, he still use it rarely.  >w<
