Title: The Pre-E3 2010 Discussion Thread - HYPE SEASON! NEWS SEASON!
Post by: Jericho on May 14, 2010, 01:10:09 AM
Yes, you were supposed to read the second half of the title like Bugs & Daffy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u14T5wzicqw) XD

Now then, welcome RPM! How's it going? With another year gone by and a month to go before the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 for all you cool people, I think it's time for one of RPM's newest traditions, namely the Pre E3 news gathering and general speculation thread, to make another appearance. This year we've been given numerous hints that things will be big and very interesting. Whether it be with the release of Sony & Microsoft's new attempts at motion & camera control, Stereoscopic (3D) gaming in the form of PS3's updates, Nintendo's brand new 3DS handheld, or the mysterious Xbox 360 update that only those in Korea have been selected to receive, or just hints at the games of the show (Zelda Wii, The Last Guardian, etc), this is the place for it all. So come on in and share as we wait for the video gaming event of the year!

News Reel:

Nintendo

Microsoft

Sony

Other Parties (Sega, Capcom, Square-Enix, SNK, etc.)

I hope for infos on that ominous MM Online/Universe thing.
Also finally gameplay videos or at least official pictures of FinalFantasy Versus 13
Then there's a boatload of Nintendo stuff I wanna see. Mainly expecting Zelda though.

And overall I hope it won't be as bad as E3 2008

I'm hoping for info on Universe and/or Online (since they may be the same thing) and, of course, Golden Sun DS.

3DS might be good although putting Wii Music on that is a hell no!
And the new Zelda is sooo mysterious! Maybe some Peace Walker things there too, but they've shown alot of that lately.
Project Natal might just blow everyone off their seats too!
NEWS SEASON!

Then there's Metal gear Rising. And of course Castlevania stuff (like Lords of Shadows). And who knows... maybe ZoE3?

Oh yes, I really hope there aren't any celebrities there, and if they are, I hope they do a better performance than Ringo last year. Anyways, MvC3 and I really want to see that Natal performance, it sounds spectacular!
Hopefully some things on Little Big Planet 2.

Waitin' to see if Cappy shows us what Megaman Universe is.

That may not be the only thing Cappy has to show, no less!

Inafune, at Captivate, stated that there were like 7 or so unannounced titles that were still lying in the wings. MvC3 and BC:ReArm2 are only just the tip of the possible iceberg. Inafune himself has stated that he was "excited to be working" on one of those titles.

Couple that with the "Ninja Theory + DMC" rumor that started flying around last month, and it could be a very interesting time at Capcom's side of the 'hood this E3. They could certainly need to, since, in my opinion at least, dem niggas need to pay what they owe for that sorry "Lost Planet Movie hype show" they called a news conference back '08!

Oh? Never heard about this. But that's cool. I hope some good ol' Capcom franchises get some lovin'.

Eh... I'm still indifferent about this.

I just wish that BoF1/2 remake rumor (http://gofanboy.com/go-fanboy-news/2363-square-enix-bringing-valkyrie-profile-sequel-to-xbox-360-and-more) was true, but it's looking exceedingly unlikely...

Like I said back in that topic...pay no heed to sites like "gofanboy", who were created a month or so before they started posting such "news", and thus, have little reason to have that much stock placed in them!  8D

I'd be more than OK with more BoF. Gimme all you got, Capcom!

Also, I assume we'll see "Last Story" in action. Mistwalker  probably isn't big enough to warrant their own show, but Nintendo could present it as a blockbuster RPG for the Wii.

Well, this thread is off to a slow start. XD

Fear not though, here's a good and recent article for those interested, Nintendo expects to sell 5 million 3DS' by March 2011 (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3179307), hinting that the Big N will in fact have this out in two or more territories by then. Also of note in this article is a comment made about how this show aims to show off in the grandest way possible that gaming will always be a huge thing and can only get better from here.

EDIT: Epic whoops! XD

Stuff I'm awaiting, most of all? ANY and ALL unnanounced titles. Other than that...

- More details, payment and release date on DC Universe Online
- inFamous 2, and whatever Naughty Dog's been up to lately
- Metal Gear Rising, give me some details, we've been without any for a whole year
- New Platinum Games announcement, as well as details on Vanquish
- Whatever new stuff Sega's doing, preferably a Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing 2 (first was and is miles better than Mario Kart).

Welp guys, we might have to man our e-fallout shelters if this next development from Square Enix is true. Yoichi Wada is heavily considering making a 360 version of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. (http://www.vg247.com/2010/05/18/wada-square-looking-into-ff-versus-xiii-for-360/) (I say heavily since that's the only kind of word that can be used to describe his thoughts on considering this all the way up to the day of the E3 presentation itself.) Of course you know, [parasitic bomb] just got real as the internet and "those" kinds of gaming fans have already started the preemptive warring. XD

Not bad unless they decide to tone one version down by cutting content or something. I'm still sceptical about this. I guess E3 will reveal more.

I dunno. I think duckroll on GAF boiled down what could be a very real prospect for how they want to get that accomplished.

It goes without saying Nomura and his team likely have their hands full as it is, trying to get their build of the game, for PS3, done. Forcing the responsibility of trying to make a 360 port on them, as well, is likely out of the question.

HOWEVER! There's nothing that says that Wada couldn't just get some people at TOSE on the job of porting over the game. And since FFXIII 360 sold well, in spite of the game being in sub-HD (among things), it more than likely means that TOSE port of Versus could likely do a lot of the same things.

Any way, I don't give two shits about Versus, at this point in time. I'm much more interested in that Japanese copyright information for TACTICS OGRE that was found recently. A re-release of the game on PSN and/or VC? Matsuno FINALLY being able to come back to his baby? That's the kind of stuff I'd like to hear!

You know, it's funny. I thought that this was such a forgone conclusion that when it was actually even mentioned I was there thinking "derp". You wouldn't believe how many forumers and other folks came out of the woodwork to chime in and figuratively abandon/die with the ship once the initial post was made on other venues. XD

GoldenSunDSreleasedatekthxbai.

For six years I waited for the announcement, and I almost literally got a heart attack when I was watching the last year's E3 through live stream with a buddy (who also happens to be a Golden Sun fan). I'll get that game as soon as possible no matter what. May even buy it when it's released in Japan to just satisfy my needs till the American/European release.

Hey guys, hows bout this news?
Quote
Capcom has an 'E3 shocker' sequel in development

Capcom apparently has a big sequel coming, and they're going to reveal it at E3. As we just learned, Capcom will not let Western devs create new I.P.s for them, but they can handle work on sequels. That's exactly what is going on with this E3 surprise, as stated by GameFly editorial director Garnett Lee. Mr. Lee was commenting on Capcom's approach with Western devs and sequels, when he said...

"Boy, their E3 bombshell puts that to test. I'm not going to spill it because I don't want to make anyone mad, but boy their E3 bombshell puts that to test."

So it sounds like this sequel is going to be a new entry in a major or well-known franchise. Man, this E3 is going to be absolutely huge!

Update on the Versus thing. (http://scrawlfx.com/2010/05/wada-surprised-at-versus-xiii-360-reactions)

Quote
Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has responded to recent reactions of Final Fantasy Versus XIII possibly coming to Xbox 360. Apparently, he’s surprised.

Written in a Twitter update, Wada basically says that he’s surprised by the recent uproar on the internet about Final Fantasy Versus XIII possibly coming to Xbox 360 and reminds people that nothing is decided yet.

E3 is around the corner. Hopefully, Final Fantasy Versus XIII will make an appearance.

Thanks, Kagari.

3DS info was pretty much confirmed long ago, and I'm sure some Universe info will pop up.

But the big new sequel? Surely it must be something epic and awesome. Mayhaps something with an unresolved cliffhanger?

It must be a popular franchise. Or a franchise long thought dead. Otherwise it wouldn't be "big"

It's either RE or DMC. One of those two at least, if not both.

I wouldn't put it past Capcom to do such a thing, especially since they're on this whole "Westward appeal" kick of theirs. Not to mention Final Fight Streetwise and Street Fighter: The Move: The GAME serve as ever consistent reminders of what happens when Capcom has lapses in judgment like this...  8D

Any way, at this point, the main thing I could stand to see is a new Darkstalkers announced. As much as such a thing tantalizes and worries me all at once, I really want to see a new game made. They give me that, and it's a worthy sequel to Vampire Savior, and I won't even be all that worried about the likes of Donovan and Talbain/Gallon getting into MvC3.

Plus, thus far, the only major Capcom games that have really done anything for me this generation (if the MM 8bit games don't count), are their fighting games. And I say that, even with the thing that I don't particularly care for SF4. That's still a bit more than can be said for the likes of RE5, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, DMC4 and especially Bionic Commando (NOT Rearmed)....

* Link will be replacing the bow and arrow with a crossbow.
* Game is all but finished. Putting on final touches.
* There will be a playable demo at E3.
* Time travel does occur and it happens through the use of a new blade. (not the master sword)
* Link's hometown is much bigger than in previous titles.
* There will be several "Majora's Mask" esque sidequests.
* Character interaction will be more involving than in any previous title.
* The dungeon field dungeon method is changed, and one of the changes confirms a straight dungeon to dungeon portion of the game.
* The current name of the girl in the picture is Adelle.
* Combat is extremely fluent and innovative. No previous Wii title can give you a good example of it's unique style.
* The game relies heavily on sword combat versus other items.
* There will be less items, but they will be used more frequently.
* There will be another main weapon added for an alternative combat style.
* The game will feature significant portions of flight.

I have mentioned it before, but I really want to see jumping and dashing in 3D Zelda. Pegaboots would probably work best as some sort of innate upgrade rather than an item, like if you keep holding A after doing a roll you'll start running fastly.

Then you could be a superhero!

Running is fine, but jumping would kinda take alot of great Zelda puzzles away from what they are, since many are height-based. I think Link's fine as he is, but a flying mechanic, used sparingly for example, would be quite a good trick.

Is it E3 season already?

This year I'm hoping expecting predicting for Satoru Iwata to enter the stage on a massive flying couch made of solid gold, powered by the collective feeling of minor triumph the Ninty employees and fans feel every time another DS is sold. To thank us for supporting the company, he'll then throw free money and kittens into the audience. Reggie will then announce Nintendo's new charity project, They're Starving (But Wii're Working On Fixing That) ("Buy a Wii, solve world hunger!"), and Shigeru Miyamoto will Do The Mario for the entire audience.

In other news: on this same day, Steve Jobs announces the iGod (you can create whole universes with it and it stores up to 5,000 songs at once!), disease and poverty are eradicated from the world and Sonic 4 is released ("It's not that bad, guys!" Edge proclaims; IGN says it "needs work").

Still no word on that Legends 3 thing, though.

The iGod will be able to create pre-made universes according to the specifications made by Apple. Homebrew or any programs made by anyone except for Apple will not be allowed in it, and you're gonna be stuck with constant Christianity updates while the people who jailbreak them will be able to go Thor.

Sidenote: I am not at all ashamed to say I have never in my life purchased an Apple product. Neither Mac nor iPod nor iPhone nor iPad has ever carressed my palm.

Macintosh was forced on me at work. For years, I had to work creatively next to my boss' offices, on an iMac G4. And to be brutally honest, I hated it. I'm just not a Mac person, I guess. Neither does the iPod's wheel appeal to me in the most. I like big, heavy buttons with massive imput. If it were up to me, I'd have a steampunk MP3 player, made of wood and with huge cranks to start and stop. I currently use my PSP as an MP3 player. Along with the homebrew programs, it's great.

...I'd still like an iPod Touch in order to play Canabalt, though. I'm hopelessly addicted to that game.

Don't forget that the iGod won't be able to create flashes of any kind!
Like I want more of me around. We're crowded as it is. And with the Zoom Corps War confirmed and coming in the horizon, it's only a matter of time until the Fastest Night occurs.

Running is fine, but jumping would kinda take alot of great Zelda puzzles away from what they are, since many are height-based.
Just increase the height difference? Or add some extra barrier.
It would also allow a whole slew of new puzzles involving jumping in some way or another, be it over pits or up cliffs.

God, this is what I hate about Nomura. He works on TONS of titles at the same time, announces them years before anything about them is actually done, and then takes alot of time to have anything concrete done. Where's Versus? Even a tiny concrete gameplay trailer would have helped. Where's Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday? Where's Final Fantasy Agito XIII? Haven't these titles been announced for years? Howcome we know nothing about them?

Although I love some of his stuff, it's fruatrating to see the guy be in so many projects at the same time and then move at a snail's pace. He'll probably announce a few more this E3...

Top it off with a Kingdom Hearts with a twice-as-confusing plot than the last one and Nomura'll make it strike more than what George Lucas makes with his Star Wars franchise.

Funnily enough, it's quickly becoming the Duke Nukem Forever of this generation, being shown at the very beginning of the generation and being continuously pushed forward year after year with no results. And hilariously enough, people are calling it "the better Final Fantasy" after XIII failed to impress them, without actually seeing even a tiny bit of gameplay from the game, and just with the detail that the game will be more action-oriented and made by the KH Nomura team. I'm holding judgement until I see some proper gameplay, which I seriously hope it'll be this E3. Maybe they've quickly scrounged up something? Juuuust maybe?

Yep. Funny about Project H.A.M.M.E.R. It was being made by Nintendo internally, right? When I heard of it, I went "Nah, no way Nintendo's releasing something like this." Looks like I was right. 8D I'd just REALLY love to see a combat game made by Nintendo on the Wii, since so far, they're pretty much the only ones to make all their titles work well with the remote.

Okay, WHO IS EXCITED ABOUT VANQUISH? Dammit, I wasn't expecting much, but that latest gameplay trailer looks so friggin' AWESOME.

I've been amped since the first unveiling months ago.

It's basically a game that brings back the spirit of the frenetic paced, arcade-style shooters from the 80s, right down to the plot. Plus, it's from the same man who bought me GOD HAND, my personal "GAME OF THE FOREVER" from 06, and the same studio who gave me Bayonetta.

If Sega does nothing else right for here til the end of time, supporting P* for that 4 game contract is almost enough to make up for a lot of their major "Bubba Flubbas" that they made in the last few years alone.

SPEAKING OF WHICH. If I don't hear Sega announcing that they're going to renew their contract with P* at E3, with Bayonetta 2 or some other type of follow-up planned with Kamiya at the helm, then well, I dunno what to say any more for Sega.  8D

Kamiya is who I would think to be probably the one man who could make a next-gen Rockman title, and make it work fluidly. Whether it be 2D a la Viewtiful Joe or 3D a la DMC/Bayo, Kamiya has proven he knows his [parasitic bomb] when it comes to making fun and involving action games.

Too bad the likelihood of he and Capcom reconciling their differences is probably slim to none. When a rumor such as "Ninja Theory-made DMC5" is starting to become all the more realistic by the day, you know that some thing's up...  8D

Agreed. Sega would be dumb to let go of them now, specially since Bayonetta was such a big hit, and every single one of their games is pretty much a widely-regarded fantastic game with terrific ratings.

I really do hope that Vanquish brings back that kind of style, although I'd like it if he could put together the Gears of War/Uncharted cover mechanics, with the frenetic pace of those kinds of shooters, with bullets, missiles and enemies everywhere you look. That way, we'd pretty much have the perfect shooter combination. All the fantastic context-based cover-taking controls from current cover-based systems, without all the boredom of waiting for individual enemies to pop their heads out and shoot. Along with the great way they're showing everything, from scenarios to enemies to HUD.

It'd be a bit soon for that, I think. The final revision to VF5 isn't even out in arcades yet, and I doubt Sega would really give us Western fans what we want so badly that soon.

Seriously, though, Sega needs to get back on the stick with something, though. The newest iterations of Tekken have been eating Sega's once dominant arcade fighter out of house and home. And if a certain rumor (http://www.thekartel.com/johnmasterlee/blog/2010/06/05/namco_and_capcom_working_on_tekken_vs_street_fighter) comes to pass, it's going to be even worse~! GAME OVER, even! 8D

(Nintendo is obviously going to show more than 3 games).
Just hope they announce as many as they did last year. (or more, hopefully)

Well this is the first time Ninty's conference lasts two hours, and not only one.

Well this is the first time Ninty's conference lasts two hours, and not only one.

This is going to be the grand unveiling of the 3DS. Such an event could likely take an entire hour unto itself, especially if they want to get the hardcores to become believers as soon as possible.

So, I'm thinking Ninty needed them two hours. At least one for 3DS showcase, and then whatever else they want to promote for the Wii and DS, going into the foreseeable Holiday ahead. Assuming they don't fill up the show with useless "We are Rich as [tornado fang] thanks to the DS and Wii adverts".  8D

You know they're gonna go on for at least 20 minutes about market superiority. This is about appealing to the stockholders as well as the fans.
