Title: Gatuca's Unoriginal Workshop
Post by: Gatuca on April 05, 2010, 09:36:43 PM
well, i am fine despite the earth-[twin slasher], i decided to create a new topic to post all my crap, that's not necessarily related to MegaGirl Roll (tough maybe i will made some exceptions later), first off i post this thing i made 2 days before

i dont have right now the original artwork for comparison, but i did my best

Have you tried full-body pixel art yet? Because I like what I see.  :D

don't know, i usually just stick to the NES resolutions and per single screen, but maybe for pan & scan sprites, maybe i will in the future, in fact i should say, i forgot to crop the picture and create the transparency (and since the situation here when i live is still quite problematic...............for not saying chaotic, i don't think i could work for a while).

but this is my 1st decent job at this try, and i will told how i did it, instead of redraw the image pixel by pixel and reinterpreting the image, i just paste the original in the NES screen template, reduce to 64 colors, and then doing the color reduction manually, and remove the garbage pixels, and rework some of them, and reduce the damn thing to 13 colors, It's not really hard, at least not this one

While it is technically "tracing", I do find that pixellized MM & Roll illustration to be gorgeous. owo

I shall look forward to more miscellaneous spritework of yours.

wait, pixelatation counts as tracing?

Well, Cadmium told me that if you take an existing drawing and use it as a guide for redrawing it in pixel form, then it is a legitimate kind of tracing.

by legitimate, you say, allowed, or a form of commiting trace?

There's nothing wrong with either as long as you're open and clear about how something was made. In this case, it'd be nice to see the originals.

I can safely say that you did a pretty good job of pixellizing that illustration, while abiding to the NES limitations. owob

Don't go there. At best only one of those images can be displayed by a NES, when nothing else is on screen.

I wish people would stop using this archaic bitplane terminology...

pixelatation

None of those are actual words...

Top: original
Bottom:

Whilst it's interesting to see where you made changes from the original, I'm not entirely sure if all changes are for the better. Particularly the shading on Rock's helmet and hand. And the details of the strand of hair next to Roll's ear, her eyebrows, and the sudden appearance of clavicles.

Alright, so I have no idea how the NES limits work. :|

*sigh* Well, what would the proper term be, then?

I completely agree with Zan on that one, the changes you made donĀ“t add anything positive to the piece. The lighting is a bit awkward too.

Also, in one of those words I read "pixelactation", funny

Not bad at all, considering the amount of detail on Roll's Valentine armor. >w<

Also, Waltz's portrait looks pretty neat.

Finish the game, and then add Waltz in as DLC! :P

Now, now, let's be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day, you know. ;)
