Simulation teaches teens the perils of distracted driving (Video Clip)

Quote
EAGLE COUNTY - It's the middle of a school day at the Vail Christian High School near Eagle and if you listen carefully you can hear the kind of music associated with video games.

In fact on this day, students like 13-year-old Alli O'Brian are getting the rare chance to play Nintendo at school.

"I'm here playing Mario Kart," O'Brian said.

If it sounds too good to be true, it's because students might get to play video games, but it's not all fun and games. Students like Alli are learning firsthand how difficult it is to try and drive while dealing with distractions like talking on the cell phone or texting.

"I ran into a lot of things and it was very stressful," said O'Brian.

Right, because, when was the last time you had a driver brandish a turtle shell at you? 8D

The state legislatures need to outlaw those Lightning Bolts, though.

I should start filling my tank with Star-Men, instead of Regular gas.

Also, I think the purpose is to show why people shouldn't text while driving.  The simple notion that this even needs to be demonstrated & pointed out is a scary thought as it is.

Blue Shells are worse. :)

Well, this is a sign that Mario Kart may be labled as a *gasp* Driving Sim instead of a Racer... Just more fun.

So its about ass now huh? EVEN THE ASS HAS 'EXCEEDED'!

One mention of LEGENDS and everyone goes batshit.  :\

Yep, every time when someone mentions that game people get energized for an apparent reason whatsoever. It's like this everywhere else, trust me.

It got really messy to find my sprite and comic topic, so it's in my sig.

I'll support the Anti-Spiny Shell law, but not the Anti-Spike Shell law.

Yeah, I'm fine with the ones that travel along the ground, but the ones that fly AND explode?

Gotta go.

This is just scary dood. Really? Using MARIO KART to make people drive better? That's just stupid dood. What about the force of a sudden break? How it feels when you're turning? How it feels driving with/out a seat belt? It's like the same argument that video games cause people to kill one another because they train them to be killers, just replace killing one another with driving and killers to better drivers. There's just so many things wrong with this dood. I really hope it's just a false report -.-;

I learned how to shoot people from far distances by playing Call of Duty. I can't wait to show everyone at school what I learned.

God damnit, this ruined my good mood.

In understand the intention of the entire thing, but really? You're telling me that the parents of these kids are powerless to say "Don't be distracted while you drive, it could kill you" and explain things rather than the school taking over?

Not only does this paint of a picture of idiocy in teenagers, but it puts parents out of the picture since it seems they can't be arsed to raise their kids (Apparantly).

I would say that I lost some faith in humanity with this, but let's face it, that's been long gone for a while.

this isn't going to make stupid people stop texting while driving. hell, i'm sure some of the people mentioned played Mario Kart DS while driving. how they can do that without crashing is beyond me.

What happens in Vegas stays on Youtube. I also stream on Twitch from time to time.

Ooh, playing Puzzle Fighter while you're driving is more fun!
...
...but aaaaanyway...

I'll admit, I have to turn on the cruise control if I try to do any texting while driving, and even then, it's not like I'm swerving all over the road, nor am I texting at the same pace. One of those multitasking things.

But that's me; I've done that all for a while and don't get stupid with it. I don't even want to know how other people do when I'm already furious at people driving who aren't even on cellphones to begin with.
